Unlike my last review this time it was adults only. We went on a quiet Saturday night; the place wasn't busy. They have an extensive bargain menu starting at 10 bucks with a highly recommended upgrade for three bucks to include not only soup and salad (nice), but desert too (Great selection of cake and pie worth a trip!) We had 2 chicken parms and one 1/2 chicken dinner. The salads were fine with a nice selection of dressings available, the soup was the best one could expect for a 15 buck all inclusive dinner. The chicken parm was very well cooked with nice gravy, bubbly cheese and tasty not burned chicken. The 1/2 chicken was mildly spiced and delicious, not dry. Our only complaint is that the great corn bread they serve was all gone and we had to be satisfied with plain rolls. The coffee was ok, I like Starbucks dark roast or the like so I know I must make allowances at a place like the Lamp Post. The desert is quite a production - one arises from the table and walks to different displays to observer the various fruits of the Lamp Post's baker's art. Fruit and cream pies, Italian rum cake, Strawberry shortcake, Cannolis, puddings, you name it, it's yours. Usually there are waitstaff making up checks and eating a meal back by the desert cases who are quite liberal with their advice and opinions. Every house baked desert anyone I know has had has always been great! This is a nice space with outstanding, helpful servers who want to please. This place was super packed tonight so they must be doing something right. The family went here for dinner and we ordered some mozz sticks. They were tasty. Dinners that were ordered were pasta rustico, chicken parm, burgers, hot turkey dinner and grilled cheese. All seemed to be enjoyed. The desserts were brownie cheesecake, plain cheesecake, cannoli, and strawberry cheesecake. The strawberry cheesecake had banana flavor which was odd. The rest was just ok. Saw them featured on Fox in the morning. I came out for a breakfast and was quite disappointed. Everything looked great on TV but lacked a lot of flavor. Live in the area and have been a frequent visitor of Lamp Post. The last few times we have been there - the food has not kept pace. I would probably still go there for something simple - tough to screw up a burger or pancakes, but they just do not seem to do anything more complicated than that very well any more. The beef stew must have been sitting in a pot for hours as it was beef mush. The pasta dish was edible, but again just not worth it- there are too many other places in the area that do it better. We like the place - it is clean, great service, but they better step up on the food that they serve and get to the way things were when they first opened. It is better to serve fewer options well than have a thousand mediocre choices. read more

This use to be a diner I liked going to but after my husbands last experience getting takeout and the time before that's dine in experience, the customer service quality has gone down tremendously. In the dine in experience we had a large party and the host was extremely neurotic and carried himself unprofessionally because he had to seat so many people. It made us feel like our business was unwanted. He really should not be a host if he was going to act that way. When my husband got takeout tonight, 07/28/17, he ordered our food at 8:02 pm. He got there at 8:40 pm and did not walk out with our food until 9:00 pm. The lady he ordered from over the phone was very rude first off. Second, when he got there, he paid and they told him it would be a few minutes. He sits down, watches a little tv and some time goes by and he realizes he's waiting a bit for our food. Someone from the kitchen comes out and asks the floor manager what he ordered and my husband realizes that the order may never had been put in when he first called. Meanwhile, he keeps getting asked if he's been helped, did he pay, etc. At this point of waiting for an order that was put in almost an hour before, no apologies, no "would like a cup of coffee while you wait? Would like some water while you wait?" Because we obviously f'ed up and you shouldn't be waiting for an order that was phoned in well in advance. Nothing. Poor customer service. My husband finally gets the food and that person asks "did you pay?" That finally broke his patience and he lost it. I don't blame him. Nothing is worse than poor customer service. We used to love going there. I love their mile high meatloaf and he likes their chicken parm. Not to mention we loved going there for breakfast but when you start getting treated poorly especially the patronage we have given since it opened, it leaves a really bad taste and we rather would start going back to the Meadows Diner. At least it feels like home there. I really wish I could give this place no stars. Liked it better when it was Charlie Browns. read more

I had three bad meals here and three strikes you're out with me. First trip was stuffed peppers. Two cooked peppers with what appeared to be chili melted cheese on top. Lousy! Second trip was my 72nd birthday with my son and my granddaughter. We had breakfast the eggs and potatoes looked fine but had no taste. Bland as could be. Third trip I met some childhood friends there for lunch I ordered a French dip. Out came what looked like a cheesesteak with some large onions. Every bite was a mouth full of gristle so I only ate half. I brought the other half back home and there were pieces of Cartilage that appeared to be like plastic in the meat. I chopped it up to give it to my dog and decided against it it was gross. I called the restaurant to tell them about it and they said I should've said something while I was there and they would've comped me. The manager explained that they had just changed ownership. I'm out right disgusted! We ordered three meals and a dessert. After my son started eating his pancakes he find a piece of hair underneath his last stack. We told the manager and he apologize. Okay cool, no problem; things happen. However, when I started eating my eggs guess what I find. Yep! A piece of hair. You can only imagine how I felt. No, I didn't tell the manager because what's the chances of hair being in two meals. I didn't want anyone to think that I wanted to eat for free. So I got my check and paid for our food. But here is the icing on the cake. When my daughter decided to eat her cheesecake when she got home. Guess what another piece of hair. This is really unbelievable. Having hair in your food is unsanitary. The thought that we may have eaten someone's hair is nauseating. Plus the fact that 3/4 items was inedible is unacceptable! read more

The people here need to be very specific when your ordering your food on what is an extra cost. 3 times I've come here and ALWAYS had a surprise on my bill. Why? Went to Lamp Post for the first time this morning. It wasn't too busy. The food was just ok nothing spectacular. Our waiter was horrible he didn't know what was in a western omelet. I ended up getting the 2+2+2+2 the bacon was half raw and when I tried to butter my pancakes they broke apart. I asked our server for a refill on coffee and waited prob 5 minutes before having to ask another server for coffee. He didn't come back one for another 5 to see if I had my coffee. He also never checked if our food was ok. The lady at the register was so rude when we went to checkout. She slapped you friend's hand no exaggeration. I won't be going back again read more

I have been to the lamp post on a number of occasions. Including being served by the back of the house manager who waits tables once in awhile. Usually good service. However today I was upset how I was treated by the hostess. It was busy, I understand but to be passed over after standing in the line was very annoying. The little red head took people who walked in after me. Am I invisible. I had to ask the next hostess to get a table as she returned. Young lady pay attention to your job. I said something to the woman whom I've seen there before but she didn't like my comment. She ran right over to the young red head and whispered to her. My fiance and I have been coming to this diner every Sunday morning for over a year. We've dealt with the overly attentive waitress, the under attentive waitress, the waitress that asks us to remind her what we ordered 3 times instead of writing it down, the waitress that looks like her tips are buying her meth later that night but kept coming back for the food. Unfortunately today was the last straw. We both work Sunday mornings so we wake up extra early to have a nice breakfast here. The restaurant itself is very nice and the food is delicious. We have noticed the manager on numerous occasions talking down to the hostesses who seem to be high school aged employees. We've stood at the door for minutes while the manager gossips about waitresses, all while tables were open everywhere. We already had pegged her as someone who loves to tell her young employees how bad they are at their job although they do nothing wrong. This morning the young hostess greeted us and promptly sat us at a table we had sat at numerous times. We sat... And sat... And waited... Made eye contact with 4 or 5 different waitresses talking to each other at the coffee station... And waited more. We waited about 8 minutes with no sign of a waitress. We got up and handed the manager our menus. My fiance said "you can have these back since no one wants to wait on us." We stood there for a few seconds expecting some type of apology, but she proved what a rude incompetent manager she really is. She turns to the hostess and asks "where did you sit them?!" The hostess' mouth dropped and tried to explain that she simply sat them with the next waitress in line. As we walk out the door without any explanation, the manager continues to berate the young hostess who again, did her job correctly. If you can tolerate this nonsense, then that's great. But I refuse to keep coming to a restaurant that puts this sorry excuse for a manager at the front door so everyone can see the ridiculous way she treats her employees. I feel bad for the hostesses and hope they don't let this power hungry woman embarrass and degrade them any longer. I used to love this diner! It was a great place to meet friends and have good food, but after the service I experienced today, I'm not sure I'll be back. I met with my three friends to have a Saturday breakfast. It was moderately busy, as one would expect. We are young (in our early 20s) so I understand the stigma that young people don't tip well, don't order a lot, are stingy, etc. but none of that is true of us. We each ordered full breakfasts with sides and multiple drinks. Our waitress was barely at our table, and she would ask if we wanted anything, then leave before we could swallow our food to answer. When it came time for us to pay our bill, we went up to the register and asked to split it between the four of us (something I have done here with no issue multiple times). The first lady we talked to was on the phone, and silently brushed us off for another lady to help. This lady acted like we were asking her to divide by zero. Several members of the staff gathered around and a lady, who I assume was the owner/manager, talked down to us like we were children who were misbehaving, just because we wanted to split our bill (again, something I have done here with no issue a lot). The entire experience made all of us, who used to love this place, feel terrible about ourselves and we won't be back. read more

We went for a late lunch and walked in on the hostess making disparaging comments to a waitress about a customer who had just left. Not a good sign (gossipy staff being rude about a customer who made a complaint, or that she didn't seem to mind us hearing this, as she carried on for a full minute before seating us) but I was so hungry my brain didn't register. Our waitress Tanya was superb throughout I must say so perhaps it's only some staff with attitude. The Lamp Post has been open for about 8 months. They have a HUGE menu and lots of weekly and monthly specials. Unless you want steak or lobster, an average entree is under $10. Some real bargains. Unfortunately like many restaurants in NJ, no alcohol of any kind (thank the ridiculously corrupt licensing practices here for that). So anyway the food - meh. Tuna melt was okay. Fries are coated with flour or whatever to make them crispy, but they may have been fried twice because they had developed an outer shell which was so hard it quite literally cut my gums. Tiny capful of coleslaw in a little plastic cup (I hate that so stingy and wasteful). My bf had a corned beef sandwich which he said tasted canned but probably wasn't. We decided to go for dessert as the bakery is a big deal here. My coconut cake was delicious. The coconut pie was really eggy and didn't have enough coconut flavour. So don't think we'll be rushing back. Next time we'll drive to Ponzio's in Cherry Hill. read more

My husband, daughter and I visited the diner on a weekend, happy to go somewhere new for us. The interior of the diner was very pretty and we actually felt like we were under-dressed. The menu was insane. There were so many options that I felt overwhelmed and I couldn't decide. Literally there was about 10 pages and probably fifty choices on each. I settled for a chicken cordon bleu panini. The chicken was obviously cooked hours before, and they just reheated it for the sandwich. My daughter had spaghetti, and it was cold and undercooked. My husband had a burger that was dripping with grease. Overall, the food was not worth the price and the visit. We won't be going back here. read more

I have been there twice, both times for breakfast. The first time was better than the first and I doubt I will be back after the last time! When our breakfast came out, the waitress actually HANDED me a scorching HOT plate! I almost dropped it out of my hand, which in hindsight I should have, and I told the cashier what happened and she just apologized and said servers are not allowed to hand anyone the plate that they have to set it down.
