Dined in - took a little of bit of time to get seated w other parties waiting. I dined with my sister this time & we THOUGHT we ordered three dishes but only two were served and one was not served with the correct spice level. They offered to give us spices on the side (which was fine not the biggest deal) but missing one whole entree ? Beyond that I paid the bill with cash and never received my change. I intended to tip a higher amount than the change was but I wasn't given my change so they pocketed that without asking. I didn't even mention they could keep the remaining amount. I am Asian, and this type of behavior is just nasty, I'm sure they wouldn't do that to other parties unless they have.... One thing I was will say this place has on point is their spice levels, I appreciate that my Lao salad made me nearly cry & the addition of the marinated raw crabs. Authentic Lao/thai salad is hard to come by. read more

Wow! This was a great meal. We had the spicy eggplant, yellow curry with veggies and tofu, and grilled salmon and veggies. All were excellent and beautifully presented. Don't miss the Lao sticky rice which is such an upgrade from steamed jasmine and brought back memories of our travels to Laos. I'm always excited to try new restaurants, especially in Marin, which lacks diversity in its restaurant offerings. I was especially excited because this business seemed more affordable than other Thai restaurants in Marin. I took my mother out to lunch on a Saturday afternoon and unfortunately ended up regretting choosing Laos Kitchen. The service was nonexistent. We were seated upon arrival and then promptly abandoned. I ordered the BBQ chicken and a Thai Iced tea (which never came out) and my mom ordered the pad Thai. The food was fine, nothing amazing, but nothing disastrous either. We were checked on once, and by that I mean we received a rushed "everything okay?" as the waitress hurried past our table. After finishing our meals and sitting at the table for a good ten minutes, my mom was able to flag down another waitress for our check. The check came (my mother had left by then to check on the parking meter, we thought an hour and a half would be plenty of time) and I had to ask the new waitress to take my forgotten Thai iced tea off the bill. By the time I was about to sign the bill, then our original waitress decided to make an appearance and apologize for the forgotten drink. The timing seemed very insincere. Two stars since the food was edible and for not price gouging. Hopefully others who dine in will receive much better service, but I will not be eating here again! read more

Wonderful Lao restaurant. Relaxed atmosphere in this restaurant serving traditional Lao food. The menu is carefully notated with those dishes that are gluten and dairy free which was helpful to us. The four large spring rolls as an appetizer were delicious with the generous helping of peanut sauce. The grilled fish was crispy and of a good size and served with broccoli, a delicately seasoned shrimp dish rounded out the meal and we enjoyed the ice cream and mango desert. Restaurant wasn't very crowded as this was a Sunday and many downtown businesses closed. Service was quick and when one of our party inadvertently spilled a drink our waitress quickly helped to mop up the spilled beverage and assured us not to worry about it. Plan to return to try some of the other dishes. read more

First time there - very, very pleased with my food orders. Both dinner dishes were loaded with flavor and fresh vegetables! There was lean staffing but that's par for the course for new restaurants just starting out ... it was well worth it. Saw plenty of orders being picked up. The food was flavorful & delicious. We liked the crispy curry puff appetizers which were stuffed with potatoes & corn. The grilled salmon was tenderly cooked on a bed of vegetables and the seafood curry was abundant with calamari and scallops. The ambience and the service was wonderful. This is thel best Laotian restaurant. The food was excellent and the flavors are fantastic. This was suppose to be the Brazilian Steak house and they never opened. The ambiance is so inviting as the previous owner did a great job decorating. The bathroom was gorgeous. Loved the faucet! The owner Ratana is so gracious. She comp us a free dessert for my nieces birthday. We went at lunchtime and it was busy. However, the service was quick. Fresh vegetables and not over cooked. Please check it out! read more

The food at this new restaurant in San Rafael is almost outrageously good, everything from the chicken satay to the papaya salad to the pad Thai is like the best most freshest version of that meal that you have ever had. They also have a good selection of drinks and the Laos style papaya salad is out of this world - highly recommended. Only suggestion is that they did a couple of things for the ambience (1) put some tapestries up to help with acoustics, and (2) is to not have the lighting quite so bright. Other than that service is impeccable. I give them five stars! read more

I really wish we had a good experience here and tried to consider that it was opening week but we didn't have a great experience. We ordered quickly but waited an hour for food, which we never got. We had to ask multiple times for water and though it seemed like something was wrong, the staff avoided our table and never gave an explanation. When we finally got the waitress to talk to us, she said we had to place our order in again. In the end, we just left. On a nicer note, the inside is beautiful and has a great atmosphere. It seemed like everyone had a bit of a wait to get their food but those who were eating seemed to be enjoying it very much. Eventually we may go back but we're not looking into it any time soon. read more

This was an unexpected discovery in San Rafael. I went there twice in one week. I'm not normally a meat eater, but wanted to try the mee khati. This was a hearty dish that I couldn't finish at dinner. The leftovers made for a nice lunch the next day. The servers were friendly and attentive. The restaurant was not crowded on a weekday but had a good number of customers for dine in and take out. I would definitely seek this place out the next time I'm in the area. read more

OMG!! This is the second time I've eaten food from here. The first time was so good that I had to try it again. Well, this time is even better than before. I was in town for work, so I always crave Lao food whenever I'm away from home. I saw that they had khao piek sen (chicken noodle soup) and I was sold. I ordered the khao piek, calamari and a thai tea. The khao piek was SO GOOD. They used shredded chicken, pork belly and pork blood. Loved the texture of the noodles. It was soft and not too chewy. The broth was super flavorful. I should have asked for more chili oil to go, because the cup they gave wasn't enough. Overall, it was a delicious bowl of soup. The calamari was perfectly seasoned, crispy and tender. Nothing worst than chewy calamari, so they did not disappoint. Thai tea was also good. Wish the tea flavor was a little stronger, but I really can't complain. Employees were super friendly and service was fast (15 mins for takeout). Food was awesome. I was happy and full. read more

There are no Laos restaurants in Marin County. Love their fried chicken appetizers and Laos jerked beef with sticky rice and dipping sauce. Started with the Lemon tea which was awesome, and the passion fruit drink was amazing. They serve Lao Beer, you should try it. Taste like Corona. Their papaya salad was a perfect blend of sweet/sour/spicy. As a Laos/ Chinese American, it was the closest you can get without going to Laos. I encourage you to visit Laos. Their sticky rice wasn't dried at all even when cooled which tells me it was steamed fresh. We also had the Pad Se Ew with Shrimp, which was moist, and the shrimp was cooked just right. The texture was the same as the noodle, soft and moist. We also had their Larb, just like the salad was the perfect blend of spices. The vegetable garnishes were perfect and crunchy. There were a couple of dishes like the bamboo salad also good with sticky rice and a steamed pork sausage also went well with sticky rice. After our meal, we ordered sticky rice with ice cream topped with a coconut sauce that was drizzled on top that married the two very well. I encouraged anyone to try it. Especially the papaya salage. The place is spacious, well-decorated, and chill. The bathrooms are very clean and decorated. read more

I'm so happy we found this place; a place where the food is delicious, the service is great, and the prices are reasonable. We walked in about 7:30 Saturday night to a full restaurant. I was happy to see it was full, both because I want the downtown to thrive, and it was an indicator that the food was gong to be good. We ordered fresh rolls with shrimp, pad phed, pad see ew, and spicy green beans. Every dish was beautifully presented and delicious. The flavors of each dish were bright, balanced and distinct. We could have stopped at the fresh rolls. They were the best we've ever had- loaded with fresh veggies and shrimp, with a creamy sesame and peanut dipping sauce that was absolutely delicious. I wanted to eat it like soup... but refrained 'cause I was in a public place. The decor is nice... maybe dim the lights a bit at night? It felt a little bright, but that's such a minor thing. We will be back for dine in and to go--- regularly! read more

Okay I've been back within the same week so I know it's good. When you crave dishes, you know it's legit! I would drive across the bridge for this spot!! I recommend trying all the noodles dishes. Ka Soy is one of my favorites. The noodles are al dente and the soup broth is amazing. The papaya salad Lao style was on point!! The lady tried to talk me out of it...she said are you sure you want lao style, it's very hot and it's salty!! Yaaas, it was awesome, exactly how I expected it. I can see why she did that given the location, it probably was sent back from clients, and I was ordering it on the phone for pick up. But I'm Filipino so I get it, and it's not too salty because you eat this type of dish to enhance other dishes. So order Thai style if you just want a stand alone salad. Both the red and green curry are good. If you like a spicy sweet curry then get the green. The Tom Ka Guy is my favorite soup in general.. theirs is perfect, not too sweet or too thick, just brothy enough with perfect tang. I recommend ordering with noodles if you want it as a meal! It's all preference. The only reason why they didn't get 5 stars is their service, otherwise the food is worth coming for and its not the same if you order to go. The toppings and presentation gets lost. If you get it togo, the toppings get soggy, and if you don't layer properly it's not the same experience...so i recommend eating there. read more
