Disappointed. My first time here. The pork eggrolls tasted wrong. And the main course chicken and string bean also missed. I ate maybe 20% of the food. I asked for my check. They started to put the rest of my food in a container. And I said I don't want it. They were shocked because it was a lot of food. There just wasn't the correct flavor profiles for Thai food. Food was delicious. Similar to Thai food but slightly different. Went for lunch, many tables were full and there were only 2 servers. Our waiter was extremely unfriendly and non communicative. Check came with a Mandatory 18 percent gratuity for even our small party of 3. Not a big deal even if the service was just average but when the service is subpar and diminishes the experience, it leaves a bad taste. Waiter needs to be trained properly!!!! read more

Absolutely delicious! The bold, authentic flavors and commitment to quality impressed me. The Thai-style papaya salad and the red curry with beef were particular highlights for me. Love this new place! We love Thai food and took several cooking classes in Thailand. My favorite dish I made in class was Kao Soy, & it's rare to find it on the menu here. Not only does this restaurant serve it, but it's really good. Protein portion was generous, & it also had lots of fresh veggies. The only thing missing that was typical in Thailand was the pickled vegetable garnish. We tried the Lao sausage appetizer. The sausage flavors were unique and quite good. It came with a side of fresh veggies and some sort of delicious salsa-type condiment I haven't had before. My husband had the BBQ Combo. Chicken & pork were marinated and grilled, served with a tasty dipping sauce, sticky rice & a side of papaya salad. Everything was delicious! They did a nice job on the decor, & the couple serving us were attentive (but not hovering) & kind. I highly recommend Lao Kitchen & will definitely return. read more

If you're looking for a legit Lao spot close by, this is it. The food is flavorful and authentic. Lao and Thai food are closely related for those not familiar. There are a few things they serve which is RARELY found at Thai restaurants/menus and common in Lao culture. Such as a Lao Sausage, Jerky with sauce, Nam Khao, Ko Piek, Khao Poon and Bamboo salad. I'm from Sacramento and of Lao descent. So Ive been to many Lao restaurants and also make above mentioned foods at home. I would say the flavors are definitely Lao. read more

Laos Kitchen did not disappoint. 1 isn't all that spicy, 2 had a nice heat that built and there's always the tray of hot condiments to add more. The flavors are so fresh and bright and portions are generous (weekend lunch they only offer the larger dinner portions). Service was fast and friendly, the restaurant is lovely. Great curry puffs! We also enjoyed the yellow curry with combination seafood, the salmon with a delicious sauce served on the side, and the generous portion sizes for each dish. In case you haven't had Laotian papaya salad before, we found it to be saltier, spicier, and with a stronger fish sauce flavor than the Thai papaya salads we've had, but we're glad we got to try something we hadn't tried before. The service was friendly and attentive, and the interior is very pretty with beautiful fresh flowers. We hope to come back next time we're in the area. read more

Great new place on 4th! At first glance menu seems Thai but a closer read reveals some different dishes and takes. We loved the three dishes we had, all stellar and appreciated. But the noodles and broth (Kai piek sen) stole the show. These are house made and hand cut thick rice noodles. They have a bounce and freshness with the broth and crispy roast pork and the house made chili sauce, next level. The veg version would be awesome too. Next time. Don't need to schlep to the East Bay or the City for a top quality bowl of noodles anymore! read more

Laos Kitchen is a new, nicely designed restaurant with an extensive Southeast Asian menu. We enjoyed Nam Kao Tod, a crispy rice appetizer with fresh lettuce leaves and herbs, and a calamari that was crispy and tender with a sweet and spicy sauce. All dishes were delicious, beautifully presented and reasonably priced. The eggplant with chicken, green curry with pork, and fried whole pompano had the perfect blend of spices and balance of vegetables. Service was friendly and attentive. On a recent (Sep 2023) stop on the way to Sonoma, we stopped in after having read so many positive reviews. It was mid-afternoon, and we were seated promptly. Service was great, as was the food! I had the combination fried rice, and my wife (a Thai food fan) said the Pad Thai was among the very best she'd ever had. The Thai Ice Coffee (mine) and Thai Iced Tea (hers) were delicious and served in Mason Jars. If you're in the AO, check it out - if not, make a point to head to San Rafael and try it. Wonderful take on Laotian influenced Thai food. The names of many of the dishes are the same as in a Thai restaurant, but the tastes are a bit different. Been there several times and it's more crowded each time as word of mouth gets around. Never disappointed. Special emphasis on the salads and the noodles, but each dish is fresh and wonderful. Although the food was good, the server must have been having a bad day. He was slow to come to our table at a time when the restaurant was not crowded. He was annoyed with my questions about specific ingredients in dishes (I get migraines from certain foods/sauces but he refused to ask to have them left off) At one point my dining companion ordered rice. This was after the server had taken our initial orders. Before I could say "I'd like some too please" he rushed away from the table. When he returned, and I asked for rice also, he said "why didn't you order it before when he did?" in a very rude way. I responded "You rushed away so quickly I didn't have a chance." He scowled and went away. I did eventually get my rice. I cannot consume sugar and asked specifically if there was any sugar in the dish I ordered. He said no but did not check with the kitchen. I chose to stop eating it once I realized sugar was in it. The rice was plain, and good. My companion liked what he had ordered. That's why I gave 2 stars. Otherwise, just a 1 for the rice. But "just rice" is not a meal. I had to eat when I got home. I probably won't go back unless family members want to go. I just will eat first. Not a pleasant experience. read more

This place is NOT worthy of 4.8 stars. It simply is not. The food is slightly better than mediocre, with mediocre being typical for what you find for Asian cuisines in Marin. I'd give it a C+. And frankly, C+ will be good enough for them to run a well profitable business in Marin. It's worth checking out so you can form your own assessment. I'm in the one and done camp.I'll continue to go to Oakland or SF to get Asian food take out because Marin Asian food sucks so hard. read more
