After seeing how popular the Westchase location (#1) is, I had high hopes for the second opening of Las Brasas along Bellaire just outside of Hillcroft. I've been missing my weekly Peruvian jaunts in NYC so this was as highly anticipated for me as anything. The place is clean and feels like an ideal spot for a casual meal. It looked and smells new, with brightness from the natural light, with plenty of rotisserie chickens spinning in the background. So far, everything is looking good. I ordered their claim to fame, a half pollo a la brasa, and was ready my food notalgia to kick in. My chicken, while juicy and tender, was a salt bomb. I tried coating it in the aji sauce and mixing it with the rice in hopes of enjoying it. Strangely, aji makes *everything* better (#2) but this wasn't the resolution. The fries were crispy, but the let down was real. I chalked it up to new establishment jitters. My next go-around included much more variety: chaufa chicken fried rice, a whole chicken, lomo saltado (#3), tallarin verde, ceviche, tallarin saltado, and even their anticucho kebab. Minus the chicken, which was mildly better this time, most things were bland. For the tallarin verde with bistec, I was kind of blown away at how much gristle and how tough the meat was. Once again, I drowned my chicken in their huacatay (aji verde) and it didn't make much of a difference. The lomo saltado was also mad salty and the ceviche had plenty of citrus, but was still disappointing given the price. Even the cilantro rice was dry. The food is 2 stars at best, but I'll give them 3 because the customer service, initial deals, and store location was a thumbs up. Before I could give it another shot, they went ahead and closed, albeit temporarily. I am not sure if they're going to reopen, but I hope they do. My work ordered some Las Brasas for us for lunch one day with a vendor and I thought it was so delicious! Moist chicken, super flavorful and seasoned perfectly! It came with a spicy sauce that you really don't even need! It was served with white cilantro rice and some vegetarian fettuccine like noodles with onions! We had chicken wings and sweet plantains on the side! I had to ask where the food was from afterwards.. then looked them up! I saw they had a promo special.. free delivery on orders over $40 and 15% off! I ended up placing an order a week later for dinner at home.. two whole chickens with 4 sides for like $40! So much food! Chicken was what I remembered, came with the 2 sauces, I ordered sides of plantains, white rice, french fries, and the chicken fried rice! Surprisingly delicious fried rice by the way! The chicken, beans, and rice were all flavorless. So I supplemented the flavor with their 3 sauces which were unlimited since I dined in. I couldn't finish my food, so I asked for a Togo container and togo 2 oz sauce containers. After I spent $25 plus a tip on my entree (for 1), they had the nerve to try to charge me for the to-go sauces containers at the end since I couldn't finish my food there. Something about that irritated my very understanding of the fundamentals of customer service or courtesy. So I gave them the sauces and my left over to go plate to throw all of it away! Looking for a halal restaurant nearby the medical center that's not Mediterranean or burgers lol and found this place. This looks like fast food on the outside (it did come out fast!) but they serve proper meals. We both got the Bisket a lo Pobre and it was EXCELLENT! Steak was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Plantains were great and not oily. Accompanying sauces also tasty. They have 3 fresh made juices that'll take you back to South America. Read good reviews and wanted to try chifa: Peruvian Chinese food. Got a regular family meal of lomo saltado for $27 which is big enough to feed 3 to 4 adults. Came with rice and fries. Beef are tender and flavorful. One star off as it was too salty for us. Too much sauce so the fries are a bit soggy when we got home with a 15 mins drive. This is the best chicken I've had in a long time! It was ridiculously moist and tender. The meat was almost falling off the bone. You really don't even need anything extra because the chicken is so flavorful but the sauces we tried were amazing. Specifically, the orange sauce! The sides we tried were also great. The fried rice was the best side. We also tried the cilantro infused rice, pinto beans, the house salad and French fries. Everything was delicious. We had Mexican coke and alfajor cookies for dessert. This is the first time I had these cookies and I was pleasantly surprised. They have powdered sugar on top and a layer of caramel in between 2 cookies. We came during the grand opening weekend. Everything at this location is halal! We had tried Las Brasas's West Houston location and was not impressed. We decided to give this Peruvian chicken shack another chance but with chicken from the Bellaire location. We ordered the whole chicken meal with two sides for $19.95. We also paid $0.50 extra to upgrade one of the side to fried sweet plantains. The other side was black beans. The foods were definitely better at this location. Chicken was smokey and moist. The plantains were perfectly carmalized with sweetness. The black beans could use more simmering and seasoning. Overall, it was a satisfying meal for such reasonable pricing. Service was quick and friendly, but employees were not masked. read more

Delicious chicken and family meals. Found this place on UberEats one day. I was looking to feed the family and they had an awesome package for a whole chicken with 3 large sides, including a 2 Liter soda. The chicken was delicious and well seasoned. Wasn't dry but even if it was, they gave plenty of sauce. There was a spicy red sauce and a fresh cool creamy green sauce. The kids enjoyed the chicken and cilantro rice. Delicious chicken and much better for you than something like KFC or Popeyes. Peruvian style chicken has to be followed by a cold Inca Kola, and thankfully they have this here. You get a lot for your money, I chose a combo where you get to pick two sides for under $12. Hidden gem Houston!!!!! Check this place out. I ordered an ENTIRE chicken, 3 sides & 2 liters of soda and it was only $23! My husband has never lived me more for bringing home an affordable meal for once. We live in Sugar Land and there is another similar place who shall not be named that would charge us $80+ for the exact same meal. The chicken was flavorful and perfectly cooked/spiced. After visiting there today, I was left disappointed. The "form a line and order, then sit style", was a turnoff. The food was adequate. Nothing to write home about. The sauces were missing a kick. Lastly, I ordered a combo chicken and was served on a metal platter. When asked for a plate the guy gave me a tea sized plastic saucer dish. I said "I'd like a plate to eat on," and he got mad, the other guy next to him heard and handed me the two dishes. After eating and packing up the chicken, we asked for ají sauce to take home and they declined. Place left a bad taste on service, and food was just ok. Its a shame that I feel I need to rate this plae a 3 because in theory its better than that. The chicken/ any meat you order is delicious, but usual luke warm to cold. I've been here multiple times and the stand outoptions for me are usually the chicken and the sauces (all 3 choiced are awesome). But if you want good sides with your main dish (like fries), this isn't the place to go. The sides are consistently cold and mediocre. But the chicken makes up for it. read more

My family comes here once a week. Its incredibly affordable and consistently tasty. On Christmas Eve we called after they had already closed, but the manager Irvin took my order anyway and was incredibly hospitable. We will continue to support this business because of people like him. read more
