Duh-lish-US! Went there for a bday dinner. I came super early and was one of those obnoxious pp working on my laptop. Yet the waitress was gracious enough to ask me if I needed the wifi password. Their pisco sour? Kiss your fingertips good!I had the grilled octopus while I waited. It was as tender as the potatoes and soooo flavorful! Fantastic meat/Latin grill place. They sell superb smoked meats (filet, chicken, heart, lamb...) and seafood (fish, octopus...). Their grilled rotisserie chicken is OFF THE CHART!!! Theus wine selection is tasty. Really "undersung" restaurant, small scale, BIG flavor and great mixed drinks too. Service is personal, food is SO fresh and home-style. We are locals and waited way to long to try this place. Fast pickup and great food. It is now a regular haunt for us.

The whole family was Food poisoned after last weeks trip. I'll try to give an honest review anyway. Lets just start with the location. It was in a pretty nice area of Decatur. Parking was weird, but we lucked up with a spot upfront. The restaurant was cool with an indoor outdoor layout. That was perfect for the warm Saturday we went. Lets get into the food and menu. The menu was a shocker. I'm a recent implant from Los Angeles where you can get good Peruvian for the low. We got the family meal which consisted of a whole chicken, large salad and French fries. The price was an outrageous $30. Look up El Pollo Inca in LA and that same meals cost $17. Why in the world are the prices so expensive in the south???? The flavor of the chicken was just ok. Certain pieces of the chicken were rubbery, which made me think they microwaved the undercooked chicken to keep up with the Groupon demand. The green sauce was watery compared to the Peruvian spots I've had in LA and Northern Va. But my 3 year old loved it. They did have some yellow sauce that was pretty damn tasty. Back to the menu for a sec. I love Lomo which is a pretty basic dish with veggies fries and steak. I usually paid $9 in LA for it, They wanted $18!! Wtf!! All in all if all if we weren't all puking our guts out for the next 2 days, we probably wouldn't come back. Came here about a week ago for the first time - and WOW!!! This place was great! We opted to dine in, and were greeted by the smell and sight of whole chickens roasting over a flame. The seating area was large and parking was ridiculously easy. I loved how they opened the windows to outside just enough so we could enjoy the lovely spring weather without being bathed in pollen. We got chicken, yucca fries, and asparagus, all of which were fabulous. The chicken was incredibly tender, moist, and flavorful, to the point that the dipping sauce wasn't really needed, but a delicious addition. My hubby got a vegetarian option, which he really loved, to the point that he was saying we HAVE to come back - the vegetarian was saying that!!! We finished off with the chocolate dessert and flan. The flan was okay, but not my favorite. And the chocolate dessert was solid, my toddler demolished it, but again, not anything to travel for. We'll definitely be back, will probably skip on the dessert and opt for more sides next time. read more

First time trying Las Brasas tonight (2-24-17). Underwhelming is the word that I would use to describe the food. Didn't give them 2 stars due to bad service, slow order, long wait times or rude staff but when I go to a ethnic restaurant that I normally don't see in a particular city I expect to be wowed by the experience. Peruvian is definitely not a restaurant that is represented in the Atlanta area (can only count a few). There's a ton of Mexican, Chinese and several Indian places but not Peruvian. Therefore if someone is going to open up a unique eatery with a limited menu they need to make sure that they execute it well. A unique restaurant is suppose to serve food that you don't see very often, can't easily purchase in a store and cannot easily cook at home....if I visit a restaurant and see things on the menu that I can get at my local supermarket or easily cook at home then why am I spending my money at the restaurant? What went wrong? Well let's begin with the main draw of this restaurant, rotisserie chicken. When you think of rotisserie chicken it is a basic food that you can buy anywhere, hell Publix sells ready cooked rotisserie chicken in their stores everyday. With that said this means one would expect that if they are going to a Peruvian restaurant for dinner and order their specialty (rotisserie chicken) that it would be something special with some type of special Spanish seasoning and something to make it stand out. Well not at this restaurant.....they brought basic rotisserie chicken to our table with no thought put into seasoning $30 (family meal) for a whole rotisserie chicken with sweet potato (frozen) fries & a big bowl of house salad = a meal that I could have made at home for about $12 or purchased a cooked rotisserie chicken at Publix or Walmart ($6)! And please don't ask them for water, they bring unfiltered tap water (Georgia has some bad tasting water) to your table on ice. Everyone has heard this saying before *if you are not going to do something the right way then just don't do it at all*. Menu options: Very limited! They need to not only rework the ingredients in their entrees but definitely need to add more options. If you don't like the ingredients in the few (5-6) entrees that they offer then you are left trying to create a meal on your own (very difficult). By the time that you choose either half or whole rotisserie chicken and add a couple of the $5 side items you would be spending $25-$30 for a basic chicken dish. At the price point that they are charging I would not expect to see 2 different types of french fries on the side item menu....and certainly would expect that they would make fresh sweet potato fries. Instead they are hand-cutting the yuca and regular french fries but giving people frozen sweet potato fries. The only stars on this menu are the chicha morada ($3.50), triple chocolate cake ($6) and the huacatay sauce that came with our rotisserie chicken dinner.....both were good and unique. Isn't that something? The sauce that came with the chicken tasted better than the main item (rotisserie chicken). Expected this place to stand out simply because there is no crowd of Peruvian restaurants to compete with.....was wrong! In order for me to continue to go back to a restaurant something about the food/experience has to wow me.....but since this restaurant is serving frozen sweet potato fries and selling items that I can buy in a supermarket or cook at home there simply isn't anything that would bring me back to Las Brasas. read more

My Decatur Peruvian rotisserie chicken fave has opened up a sit down restaurant at last. I was excited to go. I liked this iteration, but oddly enough, not for what made it famous: the chicken. Las Brasas has moved from the now-getting cool corner across from the train depot to Church Street in Decatur. That's not a step up in location. It has a parking lot and Church is very busy, so no quiet ambiance. (But then again, the prior location had no seating and no parking.) The place is busy. Folks from everywhere have come. But it's not the best ambiance. Literally one open room with a kitchen in the back. First things first: the drinks. We ordered a Caipirinha. It was well done. (Of course, given its location in Downtown Decatur, lots of kids, so not a boozy bruch/lunch place.) Then we order the Huancaina potatoes, Chicken and Ceviche. The Ceviche is excellent! Best I've had around Atlanta. (Low bar, but still very good.) Well balanced, nice size. But the chicken is not. It is too dry or something. Not sure what the issue was. I think it probably sits out under a heat lamp is my guess. The potatoes are their usual spicy tang that's to be enjoyed. I may have to try it again, because the Ceviche was so good, but I worry about the chicken, which is what made it a fave. read more

First things first: the pollo a la brasa was THE BOMB! Perfectly seasoned, juicy, served with an excellent hucatay sauce. The ceviche de corvina was very good, could have used a bit more aji and lime. The causa, beans, and rice were all good, but nothing too special. My Peruvian mother-in-law can make all three of these simple dishes so deliciously that my mouth waters just thinking of them. I hope Las Brazas will zing theirs up a bit. Secondly, everything in this review has to be prefaced with the fact that today was their "soft opening", their first day open to work out the kinks in preparation for a grand opening in the near future. They were sorely under-staffed and the one waitperson seemed unfamiliar with the computerized system to generate the bill. Their was no bus person to serve water, run plates, clear plates, clean and re-set tables. For whatever reason, many diners sat for long times waiting for their bill, others waited a long time waiting for food. The three women at the table next to us were saints...I overheard one of them telling the waitress, "I'm sorry, but I have to go...we've been here for two hours...can we just pay?" They sat for at least another 30 minutes after that conversation with no interaction with restaurant staff. As we waited for our food (which was a shorter wait than many had, as we were one of the last tables sat before they closed their doors for the day), my husband, daughter, and I came up with our dream list of things Las Brazas might consider doing to make this fledgling Peruvian restaurant even better: --Play Peruvian music! For the first 30 minutes we were there, there was no music, then they played Mumford and Sons for the rest of the time we were there --Display Peruvian art, photographs, textiles, crafts on the walls...very sad and empty mustard-colored walls right now --Show "futbol" games on the television over the bar, not American football games --Add Inka Kola, chicha morada, and Peruvian beer to the drink menu Also, during this "soft opening" stage, definitely let people know when they first come in that you are working out the kinks and service might be a little choppy. Diners will be much more generous, forgiving, and understanding if they know this up front. Maybe even give folks who come in during this stage a coupon for a discount when they come back. The owner/manager was very attentive once the doors closed and it cleared out. He was very apologetic about the wait and brought us a comped order of anticuchos (de lomo, no de corazon) - they were delicious. We will DEFINITELY be back, but will probably give it a few weeks for some more of the kinks to be worked out. I hope my next review will be a solid 5 stars! read more

Went on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't too busy, so finding parking was easy. I was able to find a spot in the front, but there is additional parking around the back. We both ordered Lomo Saltado (beef, with onions, tomatoes, and a "soy-like" sauce with rice and french fries). The meat is high quality and cooked just right! I have tried lomo saltado at a few other restaurants in Atlanta, and this one is by far the best! The sauce still isn't quite how you would find it in Peru, but definitely is delicious. However, it is a little pricey, but understandable because it is made with good steak! The people next to us had ordered the Pollo a la Brasa with a salad, and it looked AMAZING! I met up with a friend here for lunch on a weekday. When we were there it was a busy lunch rush hour. Thankfully our server gave us the time to look over the menu and order afterwards. (That and we were busy catching up and our server was extremely patient with us.) We agreed to try what Las Brasas is known for, rotisserie chicken and yucca fries. Between the two of us we ordered a whole chicken and yucca fries, both to share. The food came out quickly so we didn't have to wait long. A note, I used to live near DC and regularly went to the hole in the wall Peruvian chicken joints for the chicken and green sauce. The chicken at Las Brasas is moist and juicy, perfectly grilled. The white meat was as tender as the dark meat, a feat. The green sauce was full of fresh herbs but thinner than what I am familiar with. Although the sauce was good, it didn't bring me back to the chicken and green sauce of my college days. (A creamier green sauce clings to the chicken better than a runny sauce.) The Yucca fries were freshly fried and perfect, served with a cheese sauce was a great accompaniment. We sat here for a long time after we finished our meal and the restaurant let us. The service cannot be beat. Most importantly, in a city with restaurants serving food with steep prices because they can, it was a refreshing change to pay reasonable for lunch; the lunch prices are appropriate. The last meal we had at Las Brasas was absolutely phenomenal. This past week, it got brought down to earth. We ordered a whole chicken, and the vegetarian mushroom version of Lomo Saltado, along with the yucca fries. The whole chicken tasted like it was sitting around for a long time and was reheated before it was served to us. The skin was limp and slightly on the wet side- inside of the chicken was lukewarm. Seriously, in light of our last meal, this meal gave me some serious "Jekyll and Hyde" cognitive dissonance/schizophrenia or whatever you call it. Same deal with the yucca fries. Not hot. Was probably sitting for a while. Not happy. As for the mushroom dish...it was ok, but the rice was way too dry. I don't want to hate, so it's a 3 star for now. But this experience definitely put a damper on prospects of returning anytime soon. read more

When I went to visit my fiancée, who had been studying in Peru all summer, there was a point in the middle of our trip when we were completely exhausted. I had been sick for most of the trip and we'd been on a long night bus ride to a new city. That night, we decided to stop at a nearby restaurant and finally have some pollo a la brasa. It hit the spot! We both were soothed and filled with warmth and the meal reinvigorated us just in time for a two day hike... The chicken at Las Brasas brought me back to that moment. The pollo a la brasa is full of flavor, well seasoned, and juicy. The huacatay sauce is a great accompaniment to the chicken and was a nice treat for my fiancée, who was missing the sauce. We both try to keep a vegetarian diet for the most part, but there are a few meals and restaurants in which we permit ourselves to eat meat--eating at this place will be one such occasion. We also ordered the fries--they were quite good and meshed well with the chicken--and the flan. The toasted quinoa on the flan added a nice, complex flavor. It worked well. For drinks, we each had a pisco sour. They were ok. I would have liked it to be a bit more sour but I understand that there are variations in recipes for drinks and also that the restaurant is new. I'll probably try one again there before making a decision about whether or not to make the drink a regular item when I go there. It's difficult to find pisco sours in the Atlanta area and it's nice seeing one on a menu. Service was good and the atmosphere was fine. It doesn't have the feel of a pollo a la brasa place but it's Decatur and it seems like they want to match the atmosphere of other restaurants in the area...simple decor and soft, modern music. There are televisions, so perhaps during sporting events, those are on. The prices are a bit steep for the chicken (15 for a whole) and other items (I think ceviche was 14.00 and the looking at a neighboring table, the dish wasn't that large). It works for us because we don't eat much so we can split a whole chicken and have leftovers but for others I can see that it might get expensive eating here. For us, this restaurant will have to be an occasional treat. But, we will return. It's delicious. read more

Soon as you walk in, you are overwhelmed with the smell of a grill and seasonings-it smells divine! This was our first Peruvian restaurant so I can't say whether it's authentic or not but the food is great! Ordered the Pollo Saltado and it was an amazing mix of well seasoned chicken, peppers and onions, French fries and a sauce that was garlicky and soy sauce. So bomb!! Just because I'm in the mood to talk about restaurants this morning, I thought I would praise Las Brasas in Decatur. I'll definitely go back there because there was a lot more on the menu that I want to try. I've had Peruvian cuisine a couple of times before, either on Buford Highway somewhere or in Miami, but Las Brasas, I think(?) specializes in meats cooked on the rotisserie. I had the Lomo Saltado, on the Peruvian Stir-Fry menu. It was filet mignon with fries, tomatoes, and red onion, with rice on the side. It's sauteed in soy sauce and a mixture of pureed peppers, and it's beyond delicious. They also have the roasted chicken, yucca fries, salads, and ceviches on the menu that look amazing. They also serve Inca Cola. I indeed dined alone at Las Brasas, and it was fine. It's a casual and roomy setting, but lively atmosphere with a bar. Parking looks difficult in just the front part, but there's actually a lot more space in the back of the building, and they also let you park in the extended McDonald's lot next door. I really never rate a restaurant based on 'the service' because I don't care about that; I never feel like I'm entitled to rate human beings on their ability to bring me food, but those who do care; the staff there seem fine to me. Great little spot in Decatur from some good South American cuisine. My favorite is the chicken. Yum! Such a great smoky flavor. Can't beat it. The lomo salteado is also a strong choice. Peruvians are known for their ceviche and Las Brasas has some good choices but for the price, it's not worth it. I've gotten take out from here as well and it's just as good. The restaurant is intimate and when the weathers nice, they open the sliding glass doors on the front of the restaurant. read more

recently moved from North Carolina, where I went to Mami Nora's Peruvian restaurant VERY often. Came here expecting to find a new Peruvian place - I wasn't very impressed; it was okay. It was very busy during lunch and they only had 2 servers. The rotisserie chicken was super oily and unseasoned. The ají amarillo and ahí verde were not authentic at all. This place is usually dynamite but on the evening of sat dec 28 2019 the food was quite lack luster... we got lomo saltado, rotiserrie chicken, yucca fries, and grilled beef heart. all of the dishes (meats, starches, sauces) were bland as if no salt at all (or very very little). the lomo saltado was a chincey portion amd quite bland ( 18 dollars ). i usually dont mind paying that bc its always been really good but it tasted extremely bland last night... surprising bc normally with the beef and onions and soy sauce it is bursting with flavor. maybe they have different kitchen staff now? mainly im writing to let the owners know that the food is coming out bland and they should taste /keep an eye on what comes out of the kitchen... i dont want to see one of my fav places in decatur lose business and fall by the wayside! and being on the pricey side i hope to get more bang for my buck next time. read more

Honestly one of the worst peruvian restaurants in Atlanta. I came here 2 years ago and didn't have a good experience and decided to come back to give it another shot..and it was a worse experience. As a peruvian myself, I know good peruvian food and this isn't it. I ordered a lomo and my steak was literally burnt. On top of that the servers here take too long to bring you out your drink. They took 20 minutes just for water... Then the busboy was cleaning a table behind our table and sprayed the disinfecting spray on our table by accident however, we all inhaled it and more than likely it got in our food.
