The restaurant has a great vibe and ambience as does the bar, but sadly, the food is a hit or miss. The first time we went, the food was amazing. Second time, the food was, especially the meats, tasted like it was cooked 5 days prior and the texture was like shredded cardboard. We have been a couple more times and it is still a hit or miss. The place is really nice I won't lie. It's too bad the food wasn't good at all. We ordered the molcajete with three meats and the salsa was not good at all and for the meat we only got chicken and steak. We also ordered micheladas and man was it bad and the shrimp wasn't good either. I also ordered one of the appetizer and it came with jalapeño poppers, chimichanga and taquitos and quesadillas, the quesadillas and the tomato was the only fresh thing made because the rest of the food items seems straight out of a box. This is American wanna be Mexican food. I wouldn't come back or ever recommend it. Sorry to say but I'd rather go to Taco Bell. They need to work on the menu and have pictures to have an idea what the plate looks like. food OK, ambience nice service was absolutely horrible! I ordered queso fundido appetizer, came with tortillas. The dish came out hot and it was good, but I wanna eat this with my tortillas which came out 10 minutes later so my cheese hardened. I asked the server for tortillas three times and finally had to walk up front to the hostess to ask again and it still took 10 minutes. When she came with my tortillas, she said here are two orders of tortillas. One is for your appetizer and the other is for your dinner that you ordered. I told her when I get my dinner my tortillas will be cold so can I please have my dinner tortillas with my dinner and my appetizer tortillas with my appetizer. She smiled and said if you want, I will reheat them when your dinner comes. The chorizo is spicy and good and I like this dish. I just wish the service was good, so I received everything on my table. I ordered iced tea. There was no sugar on the table. I asked server for some but it never came so I had to get up and take it from another table myself. The garlic shrimp dinner was not too bad. The rice was still somewhat crunchy in places and the shrimp was extremely salty and rubbery. It was served exactly like this, which was disappointing because this dish cost me $20. Don't order the guacamole! It does not even taste like avocados. They put so much stuff in it. You just taste vinegar flavor and not the avocado. I would go back just for this appetizer and will never expect good service. It was not busy. The server just didn't care in my opinion from what I could see. We were in the mood for good Mexican food while in Turlock and decided to stop in to this place. I read the reviews and saw a mixed variety, many good but it always scares me when I read about the poor service and horrible food. Still, we were adventurous and decided to try it for ourselves. We're very glad we did! First off, we were greeted by a young man, friendly, smiling and very gracious. As we went to our table I did not find anything to indicate the place was not being kept cleaned. Our own table and benches were clean and no signs of food items left from the previous customers. This man took our drink orders and shortly our salsa, bean dip and a generous amount of chips arrived. All items fresh and tasty. Our server, Roberto, arrived shortly afterwards and we found him to be friendly and answered all our questions to the various items on the menu. I ordered the chicken mole and my wife had the codfish tacos. Both items were absolutely delicious, hot and tasty. If I have to be critical, the codfish was probably frozen and not fresh, but the combination of ingredients served with the fish made this dish delicious (my wife's description!!). The chicken mole was the best I have had in this area; and I have eaten a lot of chicken mole from from places ranging from Manteca to now Turlock, and this restaurant serves the best. The cost for this meal, 2 Modello Negras included of course, $55.00, very reasonable for the meal. We have now made this establishment our favorite Mexican restaurant and can't wait to go back and try some other tasty dish. Went out to eat with a friend. Ordered the 3 item combo with a chile relleno, cheese enchilada and a chicken burrito. Love the green sauce on everything. The chile and enchilada had a perfect amount of cheese. The burrito wasn't my favorite and I probably wouldn't get it again. Just chicken in a tortilla and kinda dry for my liking. In the bar area, they had happy hour and we wanted the shrimp ceviche, but they said it was on the menu by accident and they only had the fish. Tried it and it wasn't my favorite. The fish is ground too small and the flavor just wasn't there for me. I may give the shrimp ceviche a try in the future to see if it's any better. I love micheladas and have become pretty picky. I've had some that lacked flavor and just tasted like beer. The mango michelada had a sweetness to it that wasn't overpowering and the perfect amount of spice. The reason for the two stars is because the staff was very friendly and kept checking on us and also we were approached and seated very quickly. Now the food was very bland, no flavor and no spice to any of it. I ordered a super wet burrito with red sauce. What I got was a raw tortilla with a small amount of meat covered in what it look like was canned salsa sauce like the chunky one you eat while watching football games. I asked for a side of the chipotle sauce in hopes of saving the flavor. I was told I would be charged for that even though I wanted a small side of it the reason they charge is because they bring you a whole bowl of it. Now the drinks also bland no flavor and basic. I ordered two alcohol drinks in which both look nothing not even close like the picture. For the price I paid I expected a better experience overall. We had a nice lunch today. It was busy because a Sunday afternoon. We were seated to a table with chips, salsa and bean dip! We didnt even gave to wait. They were a little slow to get our order but with how busy it was we understood. The appetizers (free) kept us quite happy. The food came and were were filling up a little but each ate maybe half our meal a d later boxed up the rest to take home. I gave 5 stars but have a suggeyion. The tacos need larger pieces of fish. I'd prefer "3 filled" tacos than 4 that tadte mostly like cabbage, also purple cabbage tastes a little bitter so id love them to do all green. Also add enough sauce in the cup for 4 tacos. I used it all on two. Hubby said chimi's were a bit bland. Still we enjoy the restaunt and ambiance. We hope to try the fajitas or molcajete next time. Great service! First off, the food is good. They give you chips, salsa, and refried beans on the table when you sit. Everything we ordered came out hot, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The service was OK. We had to ask for refills for water and extra adult beverages, and they dropped off the guacamole app, but we had no chips we had to ask for those as well. Came for the tesla charger. Figured it would be a great way to eat and charge. Staff seemed a bit unorganized/frazzled. Once we were seated, everything was ok. Guacamole was a huge portion, which was great, but it came out with our main course instead of as an appetizer. I wouldn't recommend the salads. They are just boring salads and don't have much visual appeal. The lettuce needed to be a bit smaller and I would have cut it up if I was able to get a knife, but gave up on trying to find someone. Chilaquiles had a great flavor, but would definitely recommend sharing since the food on the plate is all really heavy. I might have opted for less chilaquiles and adding some kind of vegetables or salad. (Red sauce had great flavor!) Overall, food was fine, staff was fine. Nothing special. The bar has tvs to watch games and big enough to fit many people. We just came to watch the game and have some chips and salsa and beans! I also got a michelada! Perfect Sunday lunch date. Not being greeted hello when there's three people up front was so rude, and the food was so so bad. I ordered the taquitos and took one bite and spit it in my napkin. It tasted like straight vegetable oil and cow. No seasoning, no taste other than oil. The bean dip tasted like lard and nothing else. The other plate of food was a birria queso taco and we couldn't eat that either. We paid $70 for two bites of food, we told the waitress (who was very sweet), and all we were offered was a different plate of food. The 5 stars in this reviews is for our server Gabriela. We came yesterday morning for lunch. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas, and she took the extra step to tell me that they use lard and would that be ok? No server has ever done this anywhere for me before. If I was vegan this would have been critical Las Casuelas should recognize Gabriela for going above and beyond. Thank you! Terrible terrible visit today. We put our order in and they messed up on our order right from the start. They sent my wife's taco salad to the wrong table. They only sent one of our other two plates out and it was not made correctly. I asked them to please make our second plate correctly and we were still waiting for my wife's taco salad. They finally sent out our second plate correctly but again we were still waiting for my wife's food. Finally a few minutes later it comes out but is made incorrectly!! She is very irritated and we just cancel it. Than when the waiter gives me our bill he tries to charge us for 4 drinks when we only had 1 and 2 waters. One of the best Mexican restaurants in the area! I'm talking restaurants not taco trucks or taquerias, I am talking sit down and enjoy your meal amongst your company type restaurant. I tried something new on this visit and has the shrimp garlic bowl and it was fabulous! My party ordered a burrito supreme and the AguaChile! The aguachile was refreshing and spicy in a good way with lots of flavor! Warm chips and salsa with a bean dip is offered with your meal and the bar serves up some amazing Mexican cocktails! You really can't go wrong here. The staff was a little overwhelmed considering Covid and the regulations constantly changing to keep the patrons and staff safe but I would say it no was is a reflection on the service itself as I have visited many times prior to Covid and have always been extremely happy with the service. read more

We were in town visiting our grandchildren and came here for dinner with the family. The food is good, not above average or below but good. I had the carne asada plate and it wasn't too bad, the meat tasted average and the rice and beans were fresh. With the pandemic I am noticing the quality of meat going down but here it was good. My husband had the Chicken Tampiquena and he said the chicken was dry. I do have to mention that their Pica-Mango Margarita was very good and tasted so fresh! We went to Las Casuelas yesterday. We hadn't been there in a while so we decided to give them a try. The new decor was nice as well as the new booths and tables. The host with the blue hair came to seat us at a table where a server had just sat. She kindly told her we were being sat there. Once we were seated a kind tall young man in glasses came over to get our drink order. I feel bad for not getting his name. He was very attentive. It took the server about 20-25 minutes to come take our order. Another host came to ask if we were okay and even she noticed and said, "just waiting for your server huh?". When the server came over she didn't greet us, not very kind at all. She took our order and was kind of rude about it. Even after we said please and thank you. After a bit she brought our food and never came back to check how everything was. The tall young man was the one who kept checking on us, our food and our drinks. I really wish I would have caught his name. The bartender even came and brought us our boxes. The server was just not it. My fiancé even left her a tip which she was not deserving of at all. When my fiancé and I had spoke about it we agreed that we shouldn't t have left her anything for her crappy service. On the other hand, our food was good. First, this place deserves a better rating. I give it 5 stars on service in bar area.. Sabrina was working when we were there and she is terrific bartender. It was happy hour (3-8... who does that?!) so there were drink and food specials. I had a superior carnitas quesadilla (meat was fabulous with a unique spicing I had not had on carnitas before.. loved it!) and hubby had $1.50 beef carnitas tacos!
