From the moment I sat down, I knew that I had found a unique dining experience; I mean it's fairly hard to find a mariachi band at 2:00 pm on a Saturday; and who else serves complimentary ceviche with their chips and salsa?! A very fun spot, love the decor and the music (though they did have radio on and live music at the same time -- not a great spot for conversation if you're more than 2 people). The piña relleno is beautiful and a cool idea, but was just ok. The insides were warm not hot (despite the broiled cheese on top smoking deliciously). The octopus (one of the fish inside) was overcooked. I was surprised it didn't have any pineapple IN the dish. The guacamole was good but pretty salty or maybe lime-y. HORRIBLE! I waited over an hour and a half for my food, my family had all finished eating and I still hadn't gotten my food. The waiter kept giving different excuses that made NO SENSE. I went to Las Islas Marias for lunch today. As soon as you are seated you are greeted by a waiter/waitress with water, salsa (hot and mild) and a small bowl of ceviche. I went with 2 coworkers who are hispanics. They both ordered before I did and then I followed by ordering shrimp quesadillas. They were very good and flavorful. I also ordered a bowl of queso that never showed up nor did it show up on my bill, so I am not sure if the waiter understood English very well or not. However, the meal that I ordered (from the appetizer list) was just enough to fill me up and send me on my way satisified. I would love to go back and try something on the entree list. Loved the food. Best guacamole ever nice and chunky. Serving are quite large. Great service so friendly. Menu is in Spanish but is translated beneath each item. Had shrimp fajitas must have been a pound of shrimp. Couldn't even eat the beans, rice or salad. Enjoyed my soft drink in the can. Had the feel and taste of old Mexico even the music. Can't wait to go back. My friend said this is now my favorite Mexican restaurant and that's saying a lot coming from her. My bestie and I toddled in here for lunch last Saturday. It wasn't busy and there was no one at the door. I saw someone at the bar, waved a greeting, she smiled and came over and seated us. This joint caters to the immigrant community but they happily speak English and were very polite and accommodating even though I do speak Spanish. Anyway, they have a very nice menu of mainly Mexican seafood. Don't come here if all you want is cheese slathered Tex-Mex. Many people will not recognize these dishes and probably have a cow looking at pulpo (octopus), camarones (shirmp) and ostiones (oysters). There are some turf items such as chicken enchiladas and some other non-seafood items to please the straggler who will not touch seafood. They serve a small bowl of ceviche with round, crispy corn tortillas, salsa and limes. It was delicious! I had the Enchiladas Coras which were shrimp enchiladas and they were outstanding. Lots of shrimp, white cheese on top. No skimping here, served with rice and salad. I had a side of beans to go with. My besties had chicken enchiladas and he said they were superb. This ran us about $28 including drinks which isn't bad but it's not your cheaping $7 or $8 lunch special. I saw a lot of the seafood soups and other dishes coming out and they were quite impressive. Not sure how other reviewers had such apparently substandard experiences but I'm stoked to discover a new Mexican restaurant specializing in seafood in town. This place is definitely popular with locals. I was pleased to see so many full tables and quite a turnover as we casually lunched. The bowl of ceviche that comes with the tostada-type chips was delicious and generously proportioned. To my mind you're getting a full blown appetizer for free so who could complain?! We had two margaritas, perhaps a hair on the sweeter side than I prefer but they were still tasty. One of us had a pasta dish with grilled chicken and broccoli. Not the expected option at a Mexican restaurant but it was excellent. The chicken had a spicy though not "hot" marinade and it worked really well with the pasta. I had excellent shrimp enchiladas. Service was friendly and prompt. We were greeted by I presume the owner as we entered and she warmly said goodbye as we left. Looking forward to exploring the menu. Great service; Regina has been my waitress both times I've been here. The first time I came was the week they opened. They took a while to get my food out, but were apologetic. It is delicious. They start you out with a complimentary ceviche tostada which is listed on their menu for 3.50; that was a nice perk. I ordered the shrimp empanadas the first time and the shrimp quesadillas this time. I wanted to keep my budget for lunch under ten with tip. It was right at $6 each te; therefore I leave a tip of what I would've paid for the tostada. I'll continue dining here during lunch. The main entrees are too expensive in my opinion. Very clean and friendly. I gave four stars because I agree with the other reviews in that for the area, it's expensive. I love Mexican food so when I saw this place had opened I thought I would give it a try. We went in on a week day around 2:00 and their was maybe 10 other people eating. It took 5 minutes for the waitress to come take our order, I got two tacos with rice and a coke. 5 minutes later she brings us our drinks (can of coke) and chips and salsa. The chips were rock hard and the salsa was horrible. 30 minutes later we were still waiting for our food and had not seen a waitress since she took our order. This place was honestly terrible in every category of a restaurant. I was with a group of 5 and it took the host 10 minutes to acknowledge us waiting for a place to sit. The tables we sat at were dirty and sticky. Our waitress came to our table 10 min after being seated, we all ordered waters and it took another 15 min to get our drinks and food ordered. THE FOOD TOOK OVER AN HOUR TO COME OUT!!The waitress never once came to refill our drinks during the hour wait or the entire time we were there. 3 out of the 5 meals came out then the 4th meal took another 10 min to come to the table. The fifth meal never made it because they supposedly forgot. But then they literally tried making us pay for the meal we never got. This place has the worst service, not very clean, food is nothing special, and terrible organization of how a restaurant should be ran. Don't waste your time at this place. My husband and I had just moved to the area and were looking for new restaurants to try. We drove by Las Islas and the parking lot was packed. Awesome, it must be good. We walked in and the place is packed and there's a singer serenading the guests. We wait at the host stand for a while and no one comes to greet us, weird but ok. So we walked to the bar area right behind the host stand and sit at a high top table... and wait. And wait. And wait. Several employees walked by us and not one offered us anything, not even a menu. The bar area is not large and we were about ten feet from the actual bar where there were 3 bartenders/servers who could have easily greeted us. We waited about ten minutes until we gave up and left. I would have left right away, but honestly I wanted to see if they were too busy or blatantly ignoring us. It was an extremely uncomfortable situation, but I am glad that they are doing so well that they can decide who they want to serve. Congratulations on your success! read more
