    Las Maria's

We found ourselves at the Mall of St. Matthews on a Sunday and decided to try Las Maria's. Normally I'd be getting a big honkin' steak-and-onion, but a) I love Mexican food and 2) I've always wanted to try Las Maria's, but it always loses out to a big honkin' steak-and-onion. Not this Sunday. We arrived about 11:30 and the food court was largely empty. We walked right up to the counter and placed our orders immediately. I could tell one of the girls was new, so it took a little longer to place the order. I've been that person behind the counter before so I understand completely. The menu has a variety of options and several combination plate offerings. Nachos, Tacos, Quesadillas, Burritos, and Build Your Own Burritos make up a majority of the menu. The prices are remarkably reasonable, with the total cost for both our meals coming in under $20. I ordered a two taco combo (one steak, one chicken), my wife ordered a beef quesadilla. Again, the new girl took a little longer to prepare the food, but she was new. No complaints at all. All told, it took less than 10 minutes to get our food. My wife's quesadilla was very generously portioned...so much, in fact, that she should barely finish half of it. My tacos were great (albeit a bit messy). The steak tasted better than the chicken, but that's not to say that the chicken wasn't good. The beans were very creamy, and the rice was very good. As we sat there we watched a few other guests get food and the service times were similar to ours. It was good to see that other customers were as patient and understanding about the girl in training, because it can be quite unnerving to be in front of people who can be demanding. The staff was very pleasant and the two worked together well. I really liked our first visit to Las Maria's. I hope, in time, that the big honkin' steak-and-onion loses to tacos. :)

We were seated at about 6 tables right down the middle of the restaurant. We had 2 servers, Fernanda and Rafael. They were really good at taking our drink orders and then came back and began taking our food orders. I had a bit of trouble making up my mind but I decided to get an a La carte Grilled Chicken Quesadilla with a side of cheese dip for my Quesadilla and chips. My husband chose one of the Burritos. It was really large. It also came with shredded lettuce, salsa and tomatoes on the side and covered with cheese dip. It looked really good. Of course when you sit at the end of the tables, you don't really know what everybody ordered. I do know that half of the crowd took home boxes with leftovers. Every one that had margaritas really liked them and got a second one. One thing that's really great about going out to eat with 23 people is that you end up sitting with a new bunch of friends every week. We met a new resident, Donna this week and this was her first time to eat out with us. It's so nice meeting new people. Our servers were fantastic at getting the food out to the tables. The restaurant was really busy after a bit with carry out orders. But by the time we were ready to check out, the line had slowed down and we checked out quickly. We want to thank Stephanie, the GM of Daniel's Little Mexico for being a Supporter of Swan Pointe.

They have a couple small tables & then a couple for a 4-6/8 party. Plus more seating outside. They have a shared side parking lot & a few spaces out front if they're open. On to the food. We got the Trio of dips for starters . Glad we started there. The beans are like a puréed black bean. The salsa was very mild with a good light flavor. The guacamole was fresh & so good. The chips were crunchy & perfect for the dips. With our party of three we stuck with the trio theme & decided on a few entrees to split. Our fan favorite was the tostadas. The chicken was fresh & had the perfect crunch with the crisp lettuce & cabbage. The empanadas also had a good flavor. I personally would like them to be a little more crispy but they were still good. Barely a bite left. Lastly we got the steak tacos. We used both the green & red hot sauce to take it up a notch. The steak was my least favorite but I'm partial to filet lol. Honestly, everything we had really was good. Definitely recommend. I hear I need to try the mole sauce, so I will be back :)

We got tostados and changed the meat to asada and the enmoladas. Both were very good with a ton of meat. The mole was excellent with a little spice and the tostados were handmade shells. Very good. The prices were a little high, and the menu was limited for types of meat. Would love to see à la cart options.
