Really good fresh food. I am a fan of the nachos and keep getting it. I don't think I have had a burrito there since the first week they opened. Since changing to vegetarian, I skip the meat, I also skip the rice, and ask for half the cheese which is plenty for me. Pico sauce, and the pineapple one are great. Flavorful, fresh and freshly made food at a good price makes this place a gem for me. The have beer now, and some other drinks. Ate at the Exeter Los Olas for the last time yesterday. Arrived around 5:30pm, waited in line for about 15 minutes, was 2nd in line when they stopped taking orders so they could work on takeout orders for the next 15 minutes. We should have left then. Once they resumed taking orders our order sat in the prep line for 10 more minutes getting cold. There were 5 employees in that prep line and they were the model of inefficiency. We should have left then. Got in line for the cashier who was overwhelmed and lost in confusion, another delay. While waiting in line we observed orders getting stacked on top of each other - bowls with food stacked on bowls with food. Ugh. Where was management? It's too bad. Well just a note on online ordering with covid difficulties in mind. If ordering online the website states 20-25 minutes prior to ordering. After placing the order you get the real time which is an hour. Then go there and wait 95 minutes. Get home, 2 plus hours later and order is wrong. Really wrong. Food is really good. Staff very nice. This is my favorite place around to get a burrito. I love all the options they give you when ordering from the choices of meats and beans to the vegetables and toppings. They also have this pineapple salsa that I think is to die for! If I'm not in the mood for a burrito, which is rare, I order the rice bowl and the options are absolutely endless! First: a quiz. Do you know what Las Olas means? There are thousands of restaurants, streets and place names across this beautiful land of ours that bear the name. (Answer below.) Now, on to the review, goloso. This ersatz Mexican fast-casual self-service eatery hit the marketing nail right on its head from the start. Just think Chipotle Lite and you have the menu and the concept down. Food is consistent although not remarkable. Priced appropriately and a good value overall. As other regulars observed, serving sizes and attention to detail may have declined over the last several months. If you're not paying attention as your order is prepared you could get skimpy portions (compared to the past) of whatever individual ingredient you've requested. The solution is to ask for a little more of this or a little more of that as your dish is assembled and generally you will get a little more of this and a little more of that. I've found the servers are wiling to please, good-natured youngsters who accept a little coaching without any resistance. Prevalent flocks of diners you'll find here during the evening include preppies from the nationally recognized Academy of Scandal just around the corner, youngish upscale parents with a neighborhood of kids or half a soccer team in tow, healthy eaters who arrive on scooters or maybe a hybrid vehicle+ wearing Birkenstocks with socks, a bunch of low BMI cyclists who look like they just dropped in from the Tour, and muchos gringos on the hunt for anything wrapped in a food-service tortilla with rice and beans and cheese de un restaurante mexicano. Throw in a few soloists like me on the way home who just want to grab one takeout order and get on with it and you have the core of the customer base in a nutshell. Be prepared also for 20 minutes (often more) waiting in the doldrums of a line that snakes from the order station back out the door into the parking lot. (You might use the idle time to help improve society by meeting new friends with whom you may discuss Trump's personality disorder de jour. Or maybe just read the op-ed section of the NY Times or squeeze in a quick round of Candy Crush.) The row of a half dozen cafeteria-style servers are doing the best they can with the Henry Ford production model applied to food service but the process can seem mega-slow if you're queued up 20+ people back. Wait time in line is worsened by the fact that Las Olas takes orders by phone. That means you see the 20+ people standing ahead of you, but you don't see the other 20 phantom orderers who checked in over the wire. The production line is struggling to meet the "it'll be ready in 20" deadline for those orders as well as you miserable line-dwellers. Recently I've gleefully and finally reached the first station with my mouth open about to give my order and watched as two, three or even four plates were started before I had a chance to blurt out "veggie salad, please." If the phoned-in order ahead of you aims to feed a family of four plus the kids next door, that order will be assembled all at the same time, of course. Meaning, in reality you standees all all just moved back a bunch of spaces. (If I owned a cell phone, I'd dial it in too. Arrive, and if the line is long, call your burrito in from the parking lot, grab a beer at the Thirsty Moose, and arrive back at Las Olas in about 30 minutes. Presto, you breeze past the flock and go to the head of the class.) If you are one of the forlorn who has been shuffling forward one step at a time for what can seem like an eternity, the staff and manager might say sorry for the wait when you cash out if you're shifting from one foot to the other like you have to hit the bathroom in a hurry. They'll perhaps mention that plans are afoot to open a second service line real soon to cut the wait. But I've been hearing that for something like a year now. If I were the owners (who are genuinely terrific people, by the way) why would I take on the significant overhead and management headache of a second production line when the flocks keep flocking and the call-ins keep calling? Answer: No esta pasando, baby. Overall. 5 stars -- friendly service, 4 stars -- value, 3 stars -- satisfactory food, 2 stars -- wait time. 1 star -- no Mexican Muzak! Quiz answer: Las Olas means "The Waves." Bet you knew that. That explains those funky paintings on the walls and their sign. And with global warming, our Exeter Las Olas may just be on the beach within a few decades. read more

Love this spot for a quick, fairly healthy lunch. I've had burritos mostly but recently had the nachos as my lunch. I usually go for the grilled steak for the main ingredient. Guac is a little extra but totally worth it. They also ask if you'd like cilantro (no thank you) and or fresh lime juice at the of the burrito assembly. Really nice finishing touch. No nonsense, easy, fresh and delicious food Food is consistently good. Sadly today found a hair at the bottom of my burrito. My only other complaint about this place is that while most of the employees here are friendly there are a few that have a bad attitude and leaves a sour impression. Forgot to come back and update this review. The manager of this location contacted me after my updated review where I had found a hair in my burrito. I got the nachos because they looked the best and my friend said she didn't like the quesadillas from a previous visit. The nachos were really good and filling. I thought it was better than chipotle. Im a consistent regular at Las Olas. I enjoy the food. I enjoy nothing else about this store. The wait times are always longer than they need to be, the staff does a half baked job of getting your order correct, and are more often rude to you than nice. Even as a regular! I have tried so many times to give las olas the benefit of the doubt, but the quality has declined to a point where I no longer have a pleasant experience coming in. The staff needs to be trained better. Be nicer to the customers, get their orders done correctly, and on time!! I'm a U.S.-born white guy who loves Korean food so I'm going to open a Korean restaurant, even though I've never been to Korea or learned how to cook Korean from anybody who knows how. Would you eat at my restaurant? Then why would you eat at this place? Las Olas is about as Mexican as Taco Bell. There isn't a Mexican in sight and what they call Mexican food is laughable. They don't even know what a taco is. Get this: If you order a taco, they will cut a large flour tortilla in half, fill it with your choice of ingredients, and then fold it up like a mini-burrito. What a pleasant surprise! To find not only decent but pretty good Mexican food out in the New England, but they actually manage to capture the "baja style" flavor of my own parents cooking. Sure, for those of us from So Cal the food may look a little different, but it's the taste and quality that matters. At VERY good prices. The quesadillas did not disappoint, nor did the fajitas. And they even had genuine sodas from Mexico. You should know I am a Texan. I was visiting NH for work and the last place on Earth I wanted to go to have lunch was a Mexican food joint; I can get top-notch stuff at home. But, I wasn't paying, so we went. And I am here to tell you that this Texan thinks it's home of probably one of the best burritos I have ever eaten. EVER. Think of it as a Chipotle with a hometown touch. Choose your meat (chose the chorizo, which isn't really true chorizo, but has great flavor), add rice, choose your type of beans, then add veggies. I did the standard veggies plus some guacamole. Add in cilantro and lime. The salsa is what's key here. There are several types with different variations of heat. I added mild pico de gallo, and then added their citrus chimichurri as well FLAVOR EXPLOSION! The chorizo combined with the chimichurri was incredible! Sweetness, some tartness, some meaty goodness and spices all combined for a burrito I wished wouldn't end. Weirdest ordering experience ever. The good news is, I've decided to give up on trying to find good Mexican food in New England. Apparently I'm not allowed to get my quesadilla with the ingredients on the actual inside of the quesadilla. Huh? I had to get their version of the Taco Bell Bowl with my rice, beans, pico, sour cream, etc in a big mound, all piled on top of a cheese quesadilla. Every item on the menu had the same 5 ingredients either in a bowl or in a wrap. No extra flavors or seasoning or personality. My husbands tacos were just burritos cut in half, without the rice or beans. Sorely disappointed after the recommendations I got. I give up. read more

I never ate real Mexican food growing up in Exeter so I was very spoiled when I moved to California and loved all the great places. Since moving back to NH (with my California boyfriend) I had decided I was not meant to have good cheap Mexican on this coast. I even tried eating expensive Mexican in Boston and Newburyport (big mistake!). Then my mom told me my brother really liked Las Olas...the rest is some sort of history. I love it. We both drive to Exeter to go to Las olas. (I bet he would go once a week if I was game.) My boyfriend gets a steak burrito and it's very close to our favorite place in San Francisco. I'm a big fan of a Mexican plate with all the fixings seperate so I can mix them all up. Since I grew up in Exeter I also love the orginal sign with the palm tree that Las olas kept. The Hampton spot is great too, the staff was a little rusty when we came in but they just opened so no worries. Great spot! I can't wait to take my Cali friends when they visit to show them we can do it on this coast too. read more

I have been hitting up Las Olas in Exeter ever since it opened. It is one of the better burrito places I have had the pleasure of chowing down at. It's a standard array of options but once they started offering Chorizo I was hooked. In the past year they started offering spicy sauces and salsa too. I've been going to Las Olas since the week it opened and it's rare that a week goes by when I haven't been there. I usually go on Tuesdays or Fridays for the shrimp special, but the chorizo (spicy pork sausage) and steak are great, too. The ingredients are always fresh and delicious, the restaurant is clean and funky looking, and the staff is super welcoming. (For a long time the burrito makers knew my usual order by heart.) If I have to find something to criticize, I would point out that the air conditioning in the summer in the overflow seating area is set for instant shivering. read more

Big fan. Now that Las Olas has been around a little while, they've refined any early bumps in the road and now offer tasty, quick Mexican food comparable to the very best throughout New England. Loco Coco's in Kittery is tough competition, but Las Olas is definitely the best in the Exeter area. All burritos are top notch, their extra $0.10 hot sauce is worth the dime, the salads are large and in charge, and they have the requisite beers and fun (yes fun) sodas in the fridge. Fresh, fast, clean take-out made while you watch. I agree that the service is inconsistent, but 75% of the time we have amazing, friendly service from the knowledgeable staff. Occasionally we have a frantic staff person who tears our burritos or short-changes us on some ingredient. We notice this most during the summer. The food is consistently delicious.
