First time in downtown LA. First restaurant I walk into, the bouncer or the greeter, acted like a bouncer, was kinda rude. I felt he tried to scare me off by saying it was a 30-40 min wait. But I guess you don't really know when people are ordering drinks. It was only about a 10 min wait. I ordered the tommy margarita, I believe thats what it is called. It was okaayyyy. My friend ordered a michelada w/ modelo, that I sampled from her glass when she wasn't looking, and that was delicious! It's like a Bloody Mary but much better than a bloody marry. As the night grew darker, they played Spanish music. A lot of the crowd dressed nice in sundresses, and button up shirts, but the restaurant itself isn't very upscale. Just normal aluminum stools that don't match anything else, and tilted tables. Just a hair more glamorous than a dive bar. Yep! My review still stands. The younger bartenders need some customer service training. Poor customer service can quickly turn your amazing bar into a dump. There are a few young bartenders that have the most snootiest attitude. Either they need to look at how the older bartenders do it, or simply become the clean crew. This place has an unsafe vibe from the start but they have a regular who likes to steal so take as little as possible with you! A few months ago my friend got her wallet stolen from her purse (the purse had a flap and they somehow got in). Last night another friend got her phone stolen from her tiny purse that was basically up her armpit. Whoever it is is a pro as snatching things from people. They must be a regular at this spot. Los Perlas is a house of friends and something out of a Hispanic storybook for adults. So like a graphic novel. Having been a tequila connoisseur for years, naturally I had to try this placr when I moved down town and when I heard the sounds of a Spanish Tom Waits cover spilling onto the sidewalks of skid row, I couldn't resist thr urge to enter. The security guard mustve had his tongue cut out because he was quiet as the grave when he checked my ID but the silence ended there. Inside was blacklight and folklore paintings on the walls with a well lit library of mezcal and tequila spirits and as I gazed upon the happy hour list, my heart started racing. It was Taco Tuesday, and the taco ladies on their colorful smoking patio were direct descendants of the Taco Goddesses and the smell of carne asada came through thr windows and wafted like a dream. If you buy two, the happy hour deal was that you got entire pitcher of tequila and tecate and after 9pm if you're still standing, la chupacabra would up from the depths of hell and make you his bride. I accepted the challenge and for those of you who don't know, mezcal is an aphrodisiac and at one point I found myself in the powder room, ancient spirits applying lipstick to my mouth and red roses to my hair. The rest of the night was a blur but a week later I was pregnant with a litter of half beast half Asian American babies, 5 girls and 2 boys all named after the 7 deadly sins. Ive never been happier with my centaur children and chupacabra husband, we're going pumpkin picking next week :) I often visit back to Los Perlas to have fun and make a mistake really quick. The bartenders are knowledgeable and despite the Santeria the place has a wonderful neighborhood vibe and you're due to have a ritual of sorts and incredible conversation. This is historically where Pablo Escobar brought a date to impress them and sacrifice them and only the worthy and the damned and the interesting deserve a stool at this bar. A++ read more

I love this place, the music is good(Dj), lots of Mezcal options(no other alcohol here), and it's usually very fun and alive. This place is happening. Now I want to give it 1-STAR for only ONE reason, and this is the same reason why I don't go back anymore as much as I love the place. The place has ZERO VENTILATION . That means on a fun night of aggressive perreo and drinks , you CAN'T breathe well, you literally have people's breath condensation dripping down the ceiling, it's usually packed so just walking by to the other side will leave you "wet" from OTHER people's sweat that rubbed on you. That pretty gross, better be hydrated and not pass out. I love that it is always fun, it's always packed, it's always happening, drinks are great, girls are usually prettier at las perlas, and reggaeton is on point. BUT I'll have to pass on this place because I like to breathe and be fresh, not walk out a sauna of hot breath, it's funny you can sometimes see girls make up run a little from the heat. Before anyone goes there you should know that they are happy to sell their pre-made cocktails but if there is an altercation you're on your own. They don't care to help their customers. Last night, my family and friends were there and I was jumped by three intoxicated women who were significantly larger than me for absolutely no reason my sister and brother-in-law were also hit and security did not help. Then three other fights broke and their security and staff did nothing. All they do is throw you out and shut the doors. Even if your belongings are still inside. They won't even give you your things back. They want you to return another day to collect them if they don't get stolen by other people. This place is a literal circus and I will never return. The Decor is very Mexican and kinda Unique at the same time, a little on the darker side as well. The Bartender was super cool and friendly, gave me a menu and told me what good drinks he had. I ordered one of his top sellers and it was actually pretty good and strong (See Photo) It was mid day on Saturday so the place was empty but the door guy said it get very crowded at nights and he also said the food was good. This place is pretty cool. Mexican to a T. The decor is classic and fun with calaveras, flowers, colors, pastel blues and greens, and beautiful cast iron chandelier above. Not tacky. Pretty and cool. If you are into mezcal, they have a bunch of cocktails for you. I ordered a margarita with tequila, lime juice, and any Jarritos soda I wanted! Yay. They also have tecate with a shot if tequila or mezcal for $8 :) Now let's talk food. Good food. Yum. We ordered two tacos for $4 and two chicken taquitos for $6. The tacos were great, but OMG the taquitos were better and best thing of the night! Haha great tomatillo sauce over that tasty taquito! It's funny how the first thing I must mention at this place is the food vendor! They have tacos, quesadillas, churros, and more! Hand pressed tortillas mad to order?! I used to really love this place. I would come here fairly often for years... the drinks are good. But the way the bartender acted yesterday was such a turn off and unfortunately I will not be coming back anymore. I took my friend who was visiting from France and when he asked the bartender to recommend a good mescal, the bartender was so condescending about it. At first it seemed like a joke, but he kept going on about how you should know how to ask for a recommendation.. my friend apologized and mentioned English was not his first language but the bartender kept going on about how you should ask... my friend wasn't rude or anything. If you're going to be a douche just quit your job and find another industry to work in... you can always teach someone about what you know rather than going on being a dick. Between the $10 Margaritas and $10 Palomas, the Paloma is a better choice that's much stronger and less sweet. $6 for two tacos is more than I'm used, but the handmade tortillas and the carnitas made it worth it. $5 for two taquitos should be skipped. The $4 chips and salsa is great to share. The salsa is a little sweet, but super fresh. This is great place to hang out, but can get a bit loud inside.
