I'm ashamed that I haven't made it to the Latah Bistro more than I have - it is the closest restaurant to my home, and one of the most charming locations in Spokane. Make no mistake - this place is all upscale bistro with nothing that makes me think of a pub. The decor is warm and stylish, the wait staff is friendly and professional, and the menu is fantastic. They have an ample selection of wines by the glass, and their bottle offerings will satisfy all but the most pretentious palates. The real key to the success of this relatively new restaurant is the skillfully prepared - and innovative - cuisine. Their steaks are surprisingly good (I had a rib eye with a gorgonzola crust that was amazing), The appetizers and sides are equally creative. Then we get to their specialties - desert. And not your normal desert. Gentlemen, your ladies will thank you for this. They have perhaps the best selection of fine chocolates in Spokane. A little out of the way for most people, but if you think about the time you'll save looking for parking downtown, this place is a must for anyone who is looking for a unique and rewarding dining experience. OK, my second visit here wasn't quite the same. I did have my youngest daughter with me, which was part of the difference, but the food was really lacking this go around. Much better than valentine's eve..i came in just wanting some of their yummy Flatbread. .but..no can do..not even to go..the host person very attimate about not letting me even make a order. .because i wasn't a couple. ..I realize this eve was a special one..but I left feeling like a non special person. . Just barely four stars for us (we'll call it 3.75). My cellphone was dead (so I couldn't check Yelp). We were coming home from the airport, and one of my sons had to eat or it was going to be temper tantrum time. We saw the sign for the Latah Bistro on the highway, and thought we'd give it a shot. When we think of "bistro" we think a coffee shop, plus food. I have to admit that when we saw the prices, we almost walked right back out. We were in the mood for filler food, not fine dining. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of service, and the chocolate. How extraordinary! We are chocolate connoisseurs, and were familiar with many of the chocolates they had. Their prices on the Theo bars beat the price of the bars from almost everywhere except the factory in Seattle (which we've been to . . . see my review of the Chocolate Box). We were very impressed. The food was quite good as was the presentation. I and the kids got the pizza's, b/c it was the cheapest thing on the menu. My partner splurged and got something else which he thought was great, but I can't remember what it was. The prices were a bit over the top for the atmosphere, but we're going to be sure to stop by just to buy the chocolate from here on out on Spokane trips (we just won't eat there)! read more

I brought my father to Latah Bistro today (Father's Day), it was my first visit, the dining room was extremely busy, and we didn't have a reservation; I was a little nervous because my dad came out from Boston and I hadn't made any advanced dining plans(stupid me). Long story short the hostess made me look like a pro ; I think her name is Anna maybe Abby anyway after a very normal wait maybe 15 min we were seated and enjoyed an excellent Father's Day brunch. I really like this restaurant. This is the second time I've dined here and I can't wait until the next time I'm in Spokane to make it number 3!! Maybe we've lucked out coming mid afternoon, so the service is attentive and nobody's rushed. This time Mom had the Mushroom melt panini with a little salad on the plate. Sooo good and she took home half to have later. I tried the Prawn BLT. OMG!! Loved it and saved half to eat on the plane ride home. My seatmate was jealous. The prawn was moist and with the avocado, crisp bacon on focaccia bread, I was happy happy. While I was looking at the case of chocolate (I resisted) I noticed a round loaf of bread. Spoke to the chef and he told me it was an artisan bread they made there. At $4 a loaf, it was a deal. It toasted up nicely, crunchy outside, moist and hearty on the inside. Tip: don't over toast or it is too crunchy. When we left there were 4-5 loaves proofing on the counter. Thanks for another wonderful meal. read more

This is a cozy little place that I really enjoyed. Getting a reservation for mother's day brunch was a bit of a nightmare. Latah Bistro managed to squeeze us in though. The staff are very friendly and the breakfast menu was great. Not your usual style breakfasts. I had a hard time choosing my entree. I ended up getting two eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the bacon was delicious, the potatoes were a little dry but still yummy and the toast was a toasted baguette with this delicious apple spread. Everyone at our table enjoyed what they had. I would definitely return and recommend it to anyone. read more

This is my updated review. This place has been consistent in quality and freshness up until recently. Last couple times I have been there, I have noticed some cutting corners on the salads. Nuts and cheeses are not as generous as they used to be. Wines are not served at the proper temperature. This was not the case until the last few months. This used to be a perfect place to sip that perfect glass of wine. Not so much now. Service is still professional and just the right amount of attentiveness. What prompted me to update my review was one of my favorite appetizers, the rosemary cashews. I ordered these tonight, and I thought I'd been served stuff out of the plastic jar at Costco. There was hardly ANY rosemary seasoning on the cashews at all. This is a totally different appetizer from what it used to be. It was like they had forgotten to add the seasonings. read more

We gave this place a whirl today for breakfast they open at 9 am ,we were greeted by a nice lady a few minutes early and welcomed us in , the chef also gave us a big hello, I ordered the corned beef hash and a side of hollandaise sauce my wife had eggs benne the breakfast looked good but unfortunately my wife's benne was hot it was literally cold, potato's cold ,sauce cold eggs not soft poached as my wife ask for one was hard and one egg was almost hard my wife sent it back requesting it to be redone when it returned it was literally the same Scenario, i could tell the nice lady was getting frustrated with my wife and let us know that hollandaise sauce could not be warm/hot because it would break ..........not true nice lady ,try keeping it warm in a double boiler ....just saying........ read more

My husband tested positive for COVID so we are quarantining When Susan found out, she brought us 2 huge bags of goodies from her bistro. She brought us the best French dips I have ever eaten. In the two huge bags that she delivered , were Caesar salads, lasagna, French onion soup, and a brownie dessert. She gave us 2 bottles of amazing bottles of Cabernet (one from Walla Walla). She also just opened a wine shoppe that is attached to the bistro. Please check them out, and support small businesses during this crazy time. The food is amazing and Susan is such a stellar person. STILL love this place! My husband and I really both enjoy the Chili Lime Steak Salad. It is so full of flavor, and the steak is perfectly cooked. I have also been eying some of their pasta's. It is very quaint. Has very good service, and I never regret going there. The last time we went there for lunch they were having a $5 martini special. I had a Blackberry Lemon drop. My husband had some sort of Blueberry Pomegranate martini. Then we both shared their iced mocha martini. Mine was delicious, and my husband said his favorite of the 2 he had was the iced mocha one. This is the fourth time we have tried to eat there. First time left a message for a reservation, reservation was confirmed, showed up and they were closed. Next time tried to go for dinner, having a private party. Third time they had a power outage (not their fault). This last time we showed up and they said they close at 2 due to low staffing. Okay, I called had notified them we would be there at 2 there was a car accident. They said okay, arrive and they won't seat us, at wait for it..2:04. The hostess was incredibly rude and sent us across the hall to a bar she said served a limited menu. That consisted of chips and cashews, no food from the restaurant. Went back to let her know they have no food off the menu and the guy from the bar hands me a restaurant menu in case I wanted to look at it, for the food we couldn't order or eat. Hostess said sorry covid staffing shortages....it did not appear to be a staffing issue clearly it was a personality issue. She was very flip and disinterested. If you don't want to be in the service industry maybe don't be a hostess. I think we will try another place that will appreciate our business. read more

We dropped by today at noon on our way home from the Rosarium. We were pleased to see that there were empty tables, but the woman who came to the hostess stand told us it would be a 20-minute wait. So my husband asked if we could sit at the (empty) bar, but she said, no, it would be a 20-minute wait. So we asked if we could sit outside (there were 3 or 4 empty tables). She said we could, but it would be a 20-minute wait for the entire restaurant. She was cranky and impatient and gave absolutely zero context for this "20-minute wait" in a restaurant that wasn't even full and didn't seem to have any people waiting . If she had smiled, explained the wait, maybe said, yeah, you can sit on the patio with a glass of wine, we would have waited, but since it made no sense and she was so unpleasant, we ended up going elsewhere. read more

Passed by this place for the last year and have never went inside. Boy I have really been missing out! This place is very quaint, cozy and classy With A Touch of Elegance atmosphere. When you first walk in you notice a sweet Hostess that is going to seat you anywhere you wish. From there hopefully you will experience a wonderful person who absolutey took care of me through and through. My water was always full, she always addressed me in respectful nature, very charming and sweet. Her name is Trish and she was the manager on duty. She even changed a keg while I was there...god bless her! Her concern for the way the food tasted was evident almost in a motherly fashion. I really did appreciate that. Now to the serious stuff. The food is absolutely amazing. I was here on restaurant week and I encourage you to check out my pictures. The food was succulent, very appetizing and perfect to The Taste. I could go on and on but I suppose my favorite part was the Ratatouille. The ship's perfectly presented a highly favorable dish that satisfied my cravings. I recommend you come in on an off night especially on Sunday between lunch and dinner. Reasoning is because it is going to be full any other day of the week. Monday nights especially since they have half off bottle of wine that night. This is a great place for a first night or even a romantic getaway for your 25th year anniversary. I have to defend Latah Bistro from a common complaint here.. the "Strip Mall" bashing. Uh.. you can see it's in a strip mall when you drive up, so what exactly is the surprise? If that bothers you so much, keep going.. it's 10 minutes back to downtown! And it doesn't exactly scream strip mall once you step inside, the decor is impressive, so sit inside if you don't want to be reminded that yes.... it's a strip mall ! I'll give them a pass on that one as I think they've done a wonderful job with the design, colors, and fixturing inside. As to the prices, yes.. it's fairly expensive, but they have a top tier chef so I don't mind paying, as long as it's good. I've had some great experiences at Latah with chocolate tastings paired with Ports, and deserts in general are very good, as is the consistently awesome French Onion Soup. However.. I do have one major issue my wife and I have always wondered: Why doesn't the menu ever change? I guess most nice restaurants are that way.. but Salmon Wrapped Salmon has been on the menu for what.. 2+ years? It's okay, but not to die for, and I always go in hopes that there will be a different salmon on the menu. The same trout dish, pork osso bucco, ravioli, apps. salads.. almost never change. And I've yet to see a chicken dish, but maybe that's too pedestrian. The one thing left we wished would come back is the G.A.S.P. Pizza! Maybe I'm missing a lot on the fresh sheets, and I've seen some good things there, but can't afford to eat there more than once every couple of months, and it's in our rotation of places to go, just that every time my wife and I hope we'll see something new and exciting on the main menu... maybe it's just us. But it's our neighborhood Bistro and we support our locals, so we'll be back! read more

I went to this restaurant based on reviews. It seemed like a promising place for a couple of vegetarians. We felt the salad was good, but very overpriced. I expected it to be closer to entree sized for what was charged. The tofu stir-fry was not good at all- the tofu had turned sour and should not have been served. VERY hit and miss. Last Mother's day they had a small, well selected buffet. Everything was delicious, even had the optional Crab Benedict. I was overwhelmed by the selection and missed out on a few things, so when I found out they were offering table service this year, I was keen to go back. I've been going to Latah Bistro since they opened, but of late, they've fallen off their game. I'd given up until last year's Mother's Day Buffet: previously a soup that tasted like cheap gravy, waitress LOUDLY announcing that extra prawns on the salad would cost extra (really, I've had MUCH better service at the Spangle Harvester, consistently better, I might add!), things that should be hot are cold, things that should be cold are room temperature, raw pork, the list is long. Long enough that I gave up. So when the buffet came out well we decided to try again this year. Our waitress was a blonde with a curly bob who was more interested in hanging out behind the bar and a petite waitress with glasses ended up helping us. We had to ask for HOT coffee (seriously, how is it possible to serve lukewarm coffee?) I had the Crab Benedict, which not only shrank in size, but flavor. My potatoes were warm in the middle and my eggs on my benedict were cold to the touch. I am so frustrated with this place. You'd think that they would realize their potential. Don't kid yourself, though, Chaps, which is across the parking lot, had a huge crowd, people waiting in line and was bursting at the seams. I wonder why? To the blonde waitress with the curly bob: go do a stint at McDonalds where they teach you to WORK while you are on your shift. You got a $5 dollar tip, and I think it was $5 too much. I think I'm pretty much done with Latah Bistro. Too many fails, too many weird staffing choices. For a start you folks aren't making food so very great that your staff can be this difficult. Tried latah Bistro a few years ago and was disappointed and then got a gift certificate for Christmas and so tried it again and was very disappointed again!! The menu shows hope but the execution and presentation falls far short. If you're going to charge prices that match the restaurants in Seattle that put out amazing, well executed food then you should probably find the talent that can do the same. Went for lunch today. I had the prawn/bacon/lettuce/tomato sandwich and the red pepper tomato bisque. The bisque was excellent with a slightly sweet taste. The sandwich was also excellent. My wife had one of their pizzas and it was quite good as well. We hadn't seen Jen the waitress for a while. When we walked in she said, "Hey, I was wondering what had happened to you." Excellent food, very well presented. It's a nice, quiet place with good room between the tables, and the service is attentive but not obsequious. The Caesar salad, made with whole romaine leaves had a great house-made dressing; only the toast croutons weren't excellent, being a little hard and cold. The Idaho trout with roasted potatoes and hazelnut pesto was the perfect temperature and was seasoned well, with a touch of garlic. We didn't try the chocolate menu, but it looked really tempting. The prices are more "fine dining" than "casual," but then the food is much better than you'd expect from a casual place. The portions were perfectly fine, not skimpy as some have said below.
