The best vegan roll I have had in a very long time. The fried hippie is amazing, the ingredients taste very fresh and are good quality.

We ended up here on NYE for a quickie bite before heading to Fairchild's Night Garden. The vibe is kitschy and fun and the menu hits the sweet spot for Japonophiles with a curated assortment of faves from takoyaki to tonkotsu and even onigiri. On this night we wanted to keep it light so we started with the Japanese pickles which were a vibrant and crisp mix of veggies. Then a miso soup with fried rolled tofu sheets and lots of fresh green onions. We can never pass up his and hers unagi nigiri, and these were perfection: warm, sweet, and buttery on the tongue. Then it was time for makimono. Sushi in Japan tends to be simpler with a focus on expertly cut fresh fish, but at Umaimon they depart from the classics to play to the American palate with ingredients like cream cheese and mango. Now these are not the most creative offerings you'll find in the 305, but they do offer solid choices done well. He had the Twin Dragon and I couldn't pass on the Sugar Daddy. Now, is this the best Japanese/sushi place you're going to find in Miami? Probably not. But is it the most kawaii? Quite possibly. If you too have fallen in love with Japan but can't afford another plane ticket, Umaimon comes in clutch delivering faves in an unassuming spot.

Hey foodies! This…read morereview is a little extra special to me because this place has been special to my husband and me for years... even though they have no idea! Gyu-Kaku is hands down one of our favorite restaurants. Anytime we find out we're in an area that has one, we always make it a priority to go. We've been eating here for about 14 years, and somehow it never gets old! If you've never been, it's a Japanese BBQ restaurant where you grill your own food right at your table, making it such a fun and interactive dining experience. One of the best parts? Their all-day Happy Hour on Sundays! You can choose between their all-you-can-eat menu with set pricing or order items individually. We always order à la carte because we love trying all our favorites. We started with the Fried Bacon Chips and Miso Wings, and baby... chef's kiss! For our sides, we ordered the Garlic Rice and Garlic Noodles. They are definitely shareable, and they prepare them for you. They are packed with flavor! For seafood, we went with the shrimp. Now for the meats... we ordered the New York Strip, Ribeye, Garlic Basil Chicken, and Teriyaki Chicken. Every single bite was worth it. Let's just say... I needed to be rolled out of there! And yes, I happily took leftovers home and enjoyed them again the next day. And if you enjoy a good cocktail with your meal, Gyu-Kaku definitely doesn't disappoint. Their drink menu has plenty of delicious options to pair with your BBQ. After 14 years of eating here, I can honestly say this place has never let us down. Great food, a fun atmosphere, and one of our favorite traditions whenever we're traveling. Food: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Atmosphere: 10/10 Experience: 10/10 If you've never tried Gyu-Kaku, add it to your list. Just make sure you come hungry... very hungry!

Their spicy soup is indeed spicy and a big upgrade over the miso soup, which is easily the worst miso soup I've ever had. I do think they should offer more veggies with the feast for 6 but otherwise it's a good deal that will leave everyone stuffed. Lastly, as someone else noted, the grills can be very inconsistent. Either way too hot or not hot at all most of the time. Overall a great experience though.

I will say the sushi roll itself (while not necessarily small) was not all that large/filling, so I would recommend getting something else on the side. I liked that their roll and appetizers had a fun flavor and uniqueness that I haven't seen at other places. But I will say the prices are a little expensive but I guess average for Miami area. I was surprised to find single-use chopsticks over reusable ones. A small detail in an otherwise fairly nice restaurant that did kind of stick out to me. The vibe kind of felt like a mix of a slightly more upscale restaurant, but also kind of minimalist modern if that makes sense? Additionally, our service was a bit slow, with our waiter right over our shoulder asking if we were ready to place our order, no then not being around for the rest of the meal. Maybe it was just an off night though, and the food did come out fairly quickly. Overall I did enjoy my meal here, and I would probably come back eventually when I want something slightly more upscale. But on a day-to-day I would probably go Edward for my sushi fix. Not that the food was bad by any meals. I really enjoyed the fun and different flavor combinations, it's just a little pricy to go to everyday, and in my opinion the main portion sizes don't quite reflect that or have any particular flare to them aside from a colorful/flavorful sauce or topping in them. Recommend a try if you are nearby though to see for yourself.

The restaurant is cute and simply decorated, with the classic ground seating areas towards the front. The miso soup was incredible, full of flavor and rich. The crispy rice was one of my favorite bites of the night, specifically the salmon one. The fish tastes so fresh and the rice has the most perfect consistency and just the right amount of vinegar. This is seriously one of the best sushi spots we've tried throughout all of Miami and South Florida. Their miso soup was also outstanding and so flavorful. We ordered 3 rolls, a crispy tuna (not pictured), miso soups, and 2 hand rolls and it was plenty of food and then some! Everything was delicious. Our favorite dish of the night was their mixed fish crispy rice with tuna and salmon, and their JB and Daimyo rolls. Yum!! Service was wonderful. We came 40 mins before closing and were greeted and sat without a rush. We got all our food ordered immediately and waited no more than 10 mins before it all came out. The staff was super accommodating and very nice. The restaurant has plenty of seating and very cute decor. You can see the chefs make the rolls in a very traditional Japanese sushi spot way. They also offer floor seating which looks lovely. We can't wait to come back. Can't recommend enough!

The quality of the fish is actually better than I remember, and because my roll was just fish and avocado, it really relied on the quality of the fish for the flavor. I really enjoyed this roll. They also were generous with the fish and avocado in the roll. I was pleasantly surprised to find 12 large pieces instead of the smaller 8 pieces like many other places in the area. Most of the exciting flavor is coming from the sauces, but again the quality of the fish is where this roll is supposed to shine. I also tried their seaweed salad. Same as the roll, the portion size is pretty good, but the seaweed itself was under seasoned. I feel it needed a little bit more vinegar flavor. Overall tho it satisfied the craving. Overall, it is good simple sushi. It's good, maybe not the most amazing sushi I've ever had but having struggled to find other sushi places around that seem worth the price, this place is up there for Miami sushi in my area. It satisfied my craving for sure.
