The 76 Diner is one of the powerhouses of diners in the area. Everyone seems to love it, and it always shows up in local paper's "best of" surveys. We thought it was ok, but nothing spectacular worth crowing about. M ordered an ice water with his coffee, and they delivered it in one of those mini glasses, a pet peeve of his. My orange juice was also delivered in a mini glass, something that annoys me. I'm not a child, when I order a glass of orange juice, please provide me with the "big girl" size, thanks. Our breakfast was good, no complaints at all, but there was nothing outstanding about it. Just average. If you can't tell by the sign out front, this diner is themed around 1776 and US History. The menus feature mini profiles of all the US presidents, but unfortunately, that's as far as they go with the theme. Personally, I would like this place a lot more if they ran with that theme and you stepped inside and were transported to Revolutionary War themed decor instead of your run of the mill dinner decor. read more

Quite the extensive menu! American? Sure. Greek? Got that. Italian? Yup. I was thrilled with the choices but you worry about the quality if the attention to menu is thin. Mine was excellent (it was a special - I think it was 'blanco verde pasta' - chicken, shrimp and pasta in cream sauce.) My mother's gyro (one of my top 5 favorite sandwiches) was very good. Meat spiced right and the tzatziki sauce was good. Decor was a goof but your not eating the wall paneling. And by 'goof' I mean it has character without trying too hard. I like goof. read more

I have come here a few times and think it is an okay diner in the area. Nice looking metal outside and an inviting galley area, large booths, painted glass hanging lights with the 1970's gold around the door has or windows. I have ordered the roast beef club, omelettes and the french onion soup. The omelette are kind of standard and worked fine for me on two different visits. The coffee is not that great, but if you are not a coffee yuppie like me then you might be okay. I ordered the club twice and one was good the other was just okay. You can tell the meat is freshly cut, but lettuce on my second visit did not taste that great and the bacon was scarce and the sandwich was not cut correctly the second visits and kind of fell a part. The french onion was a total fail and was glad I did not get it alone instead of the sandwich. All three times I had pretty friendly staff. There is a unique quality to the diner waiter or waitress. It is like when you travel to a different part of the country you get an accent. When you travel into a dinner anywhere in the country you get this... Decent diner, but would not drive out of my way to come back unless it is 2am because they are open 24/7. read more

Second visit to the Latham 76 Diner after moving here a month ago. The first time was fairly late on a Sunday night, so a Friday evening visit, post-dinner rush, with a full menu to choose from, allows for a proper review. First off, I have to say I enjoy the look of this diner. It's kept up well, and I like their display case of cakes and pies upon entering (and the little, but pretty well-stocked bar across from it). And no complaints about the service. Overall, nice ambiance, even with Nancy Grace shouting down from one of the TVs. Latham 76 has an extensive menu, as any great diner should. There are all the standards, plus a handful of Greek dishes. On my first visit I had the stuffed peppers--nicely done. This time, I went with the Yankee Pot Roast with a side of mashed potatoes and the soup of the night, clam chowder. The soup could have been hotter, but it had a good clammy flavor, plus a little unidentifiable sweetness (maybe from the clam juice?) that was a good addition. The potatoes were flavorful enough to eat without gravy and contained a handful of little potato chunks. The Yankee Pot Roast was tender and flavorful enough, swimming in a brown gravy flecked with pepper and other spices. K had the roast sirloin dinner, which we knew would be good--better than what I had at a competing diner recently--when she was asked how she wanted it cooked. Medium-rare, and that's how it came out. Latham 76 may not be the cheapest diner (I'd say it's reasonable, though), but the quality of food so far has made it seem worth it. read more

For the numerous times that I have been coming here, I have to say that every different day is a surprise. Sometimes the food is good, the service is good, and other times the food is mediocre and the service is lousy. It is like any other typical diner, same ole pancakes and waffles in the morning, sandwiches and wraps and whatever else a diner serves for lunch and dinner. Two stars is being SUPER generous here. tip : do not bring a crowd of more than 10 peopLe here. The old server(s) cannot handle it. When we arrived all seamed to be going well. our drink orders were taken and then food. After that is when it all went down hill. The server couldn't keep up with all the drinks being ordered which were mainly all the same type of soda. I had a wine and when I finished my first glass she rudely aSked me "do you want somEThing different?!" As if I wouldn't want a refill, I was almost stunned I didn't know how to answer. After she caughT the hint I'd rather have a refill and not a different type of beverage she then toOk forever to bring me back a whole different type of wine than what I ordered. Different color and all. I tried to say that it was wrong but she then went to the other end of tHe table. She did offer to get me something new after finally noticing my displeased look. After this was when we got our food. WE were here for my grandfathers 97th birthday. And out of everyone's food they gave him something completely different than what he ordeRed. They tooK it back and fixed it but she left three plates to the side on the other table and didn't come back for 7 MINUTES . we had to go over and gRab our plates so we didn't get served them cold since we didn't know when our sserver would return. When she did she muttered under her breath "I'm going to kill myself" as she walked away. Almost as if she wanted us to hear her and pity her. She also then told us the vegetables we Had ordered weren't available any more. I have no clue why she couldn't say it to us earlier rather than when we got our food. Thankfully after one of us fInished the lasagna was when we noticed there waS a black hair in the food or else that would of ruined our appetite. All and all, only come here I if you plan on getting served by elder ladies that caNt keep up with large crowds - have an unfriendly attitude- aNd want to be called sweetie every time you're spoken to. They need to hire a younger - friendlier staff. And also, if you're goiing to serve bread and butteer before a meal at least toast the bread And warm up the buTter rather than giving us scaran wrapped peices of two day old bread and practically frozen butter. read more

Good food! Everything I've had at this diner is really decent. My family and I go at least 3 times a month for breakfast, lunch, and dinner service. Be warned they are packed on a Sat & Sun morning but the staff always seem to handle it well. My wife is one of those make your own menu people so a place that can oblige that is always great too! Met up with an old friend at the 76 Diner. We were seated and our waiter was quick to take our drink and food order. Unfortunately that is where the good service ended. Our waiter served our Diet Pepsi and never offered a refill. The sandwich and salad were served and that was the last we saw of our waiter until he plunked the bill down on the table. Yes I know it is a diner and not a 5 star resturant but even diners have to be responsible to their patrons. Being a regular Friday night patron with my wife and our good friend we normally have a good meal , we have the same server who is friendly and efficient but this evening she truly disappointed me. I usually order either one of 2 items a ham and cheese omlet or the chicken pot pie , having that pot pie for the last couple of weeks had become my go to meal well tonight there was hardly any chicken in it and having had it many times before I knew what to expect Foolish me i should have said something immediately but my darling wife asked me not to , just cut up your brocolli and enjoy it with the tasty cream sauce she said so I did but as the meal went on I became some what angry, so I said to our server, who is cooking tonight, was it the same cook as last week, WHY she asked so I told her. Having had this many times and finding it tastey and filling, there was hardly any chicken in it. Well she said I should have said something sooner , my mistake , do U want me to have they make U another to take home, every one was done with their dinner and wanted to be on their way home, lastly she asked if I wanted desert now being our regular server she knew we do not eat desert. Never offered to make an adjustment to the bill, so I left hungry replaced with anger. So I guess being a regular customer, nice and engaging to our server and always tipping in excess of 22% just doesn't matter. read more

It's just that good. If you want a throwback decor of 1978 with the best comfort food in town, look no further. Peruse the pound an a half menu as you gaze into the marbled mirrors and wish there was a jukebox in the booth. It doesn't take long to become a regular here. If they don't know your name, they'll know your face. Owners and staff go out of their way to make sure you're happy. Every single time. Try that with a chain! Go ahead. Order the chicken florentine soup with your sandwich. And potato chips. What is delivered on your plate is nothing short of remarkable. Hand cut thin potato crisps fresh from the fryer, delicately salted and made fresh just for you. For a minute, you'll think you're Anthony Bourdain! But I digress... Crowded? Yep. Follow the herd. This place is pretty good. Facilities were nice and clean (They received the highest score on their health inspection) and our server was very nice and polite. My Mom ordered the stuffed peppers, which are a "classic" according to the cashier, and she said they were excellent. We came in late when other places were closed, and they provided nice and friendly service. The selection of food was good; they have much of what one might expect at a Diner. That said, my burger was very awful. I suspect my experience was an outlier among others, because overall the experience was very good. But I can't ignore how bad my burger was. I ordered the burger medium, but it was cooked very well done. The bun was burned as well and large amounts of fat were present. The place was excellent overall, but don't order a burger. read more

I don't get the appeal, yet the parking lot is jammed every time I go here. The prices are rather high for what you get and the food is mediocre. $12 salads that come with the standard Sysco dressings out of tubs. $11 for a triple decker sandwich. $7 for a grilled cheese with tomato... really? The potato salad was pulverized into a mashed potato consistency except for the huge uncooked lump in the middle. The coleslaw had a funky taste and pickles were straight out of a cheap jar. I do like that they offer a lot of choices, it's open 24/7 and the waitstaff were friendly enough, but I certainly won't go out of my way to eat here. read more

Sometimes I like to have breakfast for dinner and Latham 76 Diner advertised that they serve breakfast all day long. I went in for an early dinner around 5 PM and ordered an omelette and home fries. The omelette was good enough, but the home fries were not made fresh. They obviously had been laying around since the morning and had gotten cold and all dried out. They served them to me this way. If you're ok with food which has been pre-prepared and left under a heat lamp all day than Latham 76 Diner is the place for you. If you prefer to have your meal prepared and served to fresh, best to look elsewhere. read more

I went here on a late night after doing some holiday shopping for my family. I knew it was going to be a bad experience when the hostess (Whom I figured was a related to the owner) did not greet me then asked me nonchalant where I wanted to sit without turning her head from cleaning a near-by booth and then just lead me to a booth and just plop my menu down without thanking me at all. The server Samantha was polite and friendly at first when asking me my drink order but after I told her I needed an additional few minutes to browser over the menu, she disappeared to other customers and left me there for 5+ minutes looking around for her while others were taken care of in quick succession. After I made my selection, a beef gyro with a side of fries, I waited patiently for my meal and some of the actions that were happening around me caught me by surprise. A customer brought in a round of Dunkin Donuts drinks for the staff and they were hurrying them around to all the others while I was waiting, no big deal. After I received my entree in around 13 minutes (good time), I noticed the fries were not cooked very well and were the frozen variety, I tried a few then I noticed some of them were black, meaning rotten but I was more interested in the gyro. A total lackluster effort with bland tzatziki sauce and eta cheese added. I knew they stated on the menu they added feta to their gyro but it gave the gyro a funny mouthfeel and taste and also the meat was gritty and rubbery to boot. I only ate a 1/3 of the gyro before pushing it aside. The final straw came when Samantha finally came around and asked me how it was after 10 minutes and I told her it didn't agree with me. She told me that she would get my check, Wow, there was no mention of having it redone, comping it off my check or offering me dessert on the house for my inconvenience. She just told me to go pay for it at the register and the "Cheery" hostess never asked me how my meal was or my experience. I paid the tab and left a $1 tip, she is lucky I did not leave her a penny. I left feeling even more hungry and upset. Never again will I go to this establishment again, I used to go here a lot during the 90's and 00's but the shoddy service, bad quality and drastic price increases do not warrant any more of my hard earned money being wasted here ever again. Ordered some take out tonight since I didn't have time to cook dinner. My boyfriend and I had read and seen a lot of good feedback regarding 76 diner. We decided to give it a shot. My boyfriend ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrap and I ordered the Roma Wrap. Buffalo Chicken Wrap : All in all decent. You can't mess that up. The heat from the buffalo sauce wasn't too bad. Gave it a nice kick. The chicken was crispy and delicious. He enjoyed it very much. Roma Wrap : The chicken was cooked to absolute perfection, still juicy and just down right delicious. The mozzarella added a perfect gooey factor to the wrap. The menu states that it had roasted red peppers, received raw peppers. Kinda disappointing but not a big deal. I was there with my friends for a late dinner a week ago. Even though it was after 9:30pm, they were still busy. We ordered salad, sweet potato fries, prime rib sandwich, and prime rib. Sweet Potato Fries: they were old, I did not eat much. Prime Rib Sandwich: it was pretty good. We finished it. Prime Rib dinner: The knife was too dull to cut the meat; The second knife was better, but still hard to cut the meat; The meat did not seem to have good quality for the price charged. Did not eat much, it was hard to chew. Our waitress was nice, she did the best to help us. We took the big potato that came with the prime rib meal to go. The experience was not terrible, our waitress was very nice, and we tipped her well. When we come next time, we will try something different, and give it a shot again. read more

Never got the pickle I asked for to put on the burger but oh well. The most disturbing part was the two servers on duty, Casey who served my meal, and melissa were the two loudest gossipers you could ever want in a fully empty diner at 2:30 in the morning. The food used to be top-notch, a cozy atmosphere, stellar help - even the bus boys. Now the only thing that is still good - is the bus boys. Quite possibly one of the greatest establishments in the world. This place was more or less my second home when I was in high school. They are open 24 hours a day which means you can go there for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even wander in when you're about twenty-six-sheets-to-the-wind-pissed-beyond-your-wildest-dreams drunk. The waitresses vary from the nicest people in the world, to stern and all business. I recommend the beef & barley soup, the chocolate milkshakes, the spicy chicken wrap and just about any ommellette combination they have. Some items on the menu are duds, but what are you going to do? With over two hundred things to choose from you know some of them are going to be duds. Our waitress hanna. m was the sweetest, most precious woman. There was one waitress who made my group of friends feel uncomfortable, according to the manager it was due to a altercation between the waitresses earlier, but still no excuse to make customers feel uncomfortable eating in your restaurant. Basic diner food nothing special. Order a trukey club and a bowl of french onion soup. I was expecting the soup to come out first as anyone that orders soup does right?.....WRONG! What a joke they bring out my turkey club and I asked the watress why didn't you bring my soup out first? I have frequented this diner for many years and was always satisfied. Recently I stopped in for lunch and I was greeted by a server with an attitude. I was not treated as a valued customer, insulted and when she realized her mistakes, she tried to amend them. At that point I came close to walking out, but didn't. As for the food I ordered which was a prime rib sandwich, it was sub par and I had to use a knife and fork to eat it as it was fatty and greasy. During my meal I listened to many employees complaining about other employees and at times vulgar language was used, I was seated at the counter near the kitchen entrance. Its a diner, a little less greasy than a regular diner, but a diner nonetheless. I think the prices are a little steep too, but college kids will pay anything for diner food, or atleast their parents will. The food is fine, everything you'd expect. The third star is really for the convience, they're open everyday 24 hours a day, even Christmas. I never spend Christmas around here but I figure it would be cool to have atleast one place to go to. read more

I have to say I love their fried mac cheese as well, and it is my kids must have every time. Their french fries are good too. Locals loved this place. When I was a local, I did not, and thought said locals were high. Prices: absurd for a diner, WAY too high. Food: Mediocre at best, terrible at times. I come here whenever I need to bring my car in to get serviced at the Toyota dealership across the street. The service staff are usually nice and attentive, and I don't feel weird eating there alone. I had my first grilled muffin here, which is not a thing on the West Coast. It was delicious where it was buttered and a bit crunchy, but it was still a bit cold in the center. Coffee quality is what I would expect from a diner like this. I have also tried the Greek omelette here, and it came out with some home fries and toast. Overall, this place is alright in my book, but I only really come here when I need to. read more

Well should've looked at my review before coming here again. All I remembered was service was horrible, and 4 years later it has not changed. Our waitress was very ditzy and never said "you're welcome" or even cracked a smile. She awkwardly stood at the table every time she came by after we were all done talking to her. Not to mention we stood at the register for a solid 3 minutes. The guy who would ring us out came over, picked up a pen, and walked away again. He for sure saw us and didn't even have the decentcy to say "be right with you." Not to mention the bus boy who noisily strolled around with his bucket cart. Such a turn off. Food was edible but as you can see in my photo, my Grilled Chicken Sandwich contained 2 small chicken breasts on almost burnt bread. My boyfriend loves coleslaw, but one taste of theirs and he had to put it down. However the fries were good.
