I've been here two different times. Once for dinner and another for lunch. Dinner was great. Food was delicious. I wish I was able to try all the items. Bar service was on point. The atmosphere is amazing. I love the atmosphere. It's mad men meets room and board -- this was taken from an article. I wish I knew the history about this place because of the name. Lunch was good but menu options seem shorter. I had the Brie special which was beyond. I have no words. I would simply eat this everyday and more. It may be my last meal. I also ordered the shrimp salad. My husband had the dip sandwich which he said that he'd order again and again. Overall? This is a catch. I would dine here more regularly if I was in the area. Laurel Grill is in the cutest location in Culver City. It has indoor and outdoor seating. The place is beautiful and so clean. It is very comfortable and you will not feel rushed. I don't know if they take reservations, but if they do I would make one. The service is beyond compare. They have a real team approach and you are taken care of so nicely. All the servers and the staff is great and I love the chef who came out because I had a question. He is great. The menu is not large but there are wonderful things to be had for lunch or dinner. We love their cheesesteak eggrolls, never had those before and their salads are perfect. The also have wonderful New England clam chowder and calamari. For dinner we loved their seabass and salmon. I would have loved a rare burger, but they only have American cheese, which always sucks, but I loved my salmon. The pizza we were not in love with, but it was good, just not great. Our only complaint is the menu is not large enough. What they have is great and we were super happy. But only having gross American Cheese for a burger, well that is not real cheese. They could also have prime rib every day and not just on the weekends because, again, there are not enough choices. Maybe add another fish or pasta. I don't know but add something. We had the best server and then other servers came by just to make sure we had everything and were happy. They are also adorable. They know the menu well and I have not had this kind of great service in a while. We were happy campers. They have a counter with a full bar, which is first come, first served. You can make a reservation for the dinning area which is ever so comfortable. We went to dinner early so we had no wait at all and no reservation. A friend-whose judgement I trust- took me here for my birthday. I've never been but after checking out their menu, I found at least 5 things I wanted to try. Parking is below at the Culver Steps, and is free for one hour (validated at the host stand), after that it was $2 I believe the next hour. For a Thursday, this place was pretty busy. We were at a booth inside but there was also seating and fire pits outside which we saw a lot of people take advantage of. Service was quick, polite and on point. For drinks, we went with a glass of Westerly and a Gangster (mock). Hot cheese bread was next, followed by pepperoni pizza, cheeseburger/fries, and a random (but absolutely necessary) baked potato. Friend had vouched for the pizza on a previous visit so I knew I chose wisely. The baked potato was amazing though; I know it's just a baked potato but they did it justice. The toppings were what you would expect (bacon, scallions, etc.) but they take it another level. This is something I'll have to get on subsequent visits. There was so much food we had leftovers. As much as I wanted to get the chocolate cake, I was too full, but knew I would on a future visit. Which was recently. I returned but to the bar area during a Sunday. Service was spotty in all aspects this time around; there was a party of 3 down the way and I guess they had been waiting a while. Once we had someone, I had a random brunch of all sides (the obvious baked potato, Mac & cheese, wild rice pilaf) and the gangster mock. The Mac & cheese was Really good and so was the chocolate cake I finally gave into. The reason for 4-stars is the brown haired glasses-wearing blue suit guy who was working completely ignored me when I went to validate my ticket, but yet happily took a party that walked in (after I had been standing there) to their seats. I understand you want to seat people of course, but my ticket was in plain view, and would have taken 2 seconds to validate. Unfortunately, he's probably a manager, appeared to be more senior than the rest of the staff. Otherwise, I enjoyed majority of my time here, but should skip Sundays and come when the A-team will be working/different (better) manager is present during the week. It was my first time going to Laurel Grill. We had a party of 5 which means you can't make a reservation (since we had kids in tow, we showed up at 5pm on a Saturday and there was no problem getting in). The place itself is very modern and nice. Overall the vibe it basically a Houston's-type place. And service was good. All of the food overall was very good. Nothing really too crazy. To me, the menu is a little... boring. But, I will say everything was tasty. We got the Cajun shrimp salad (which was simple and clean but tasty), a cheese pizza for the kids (which was good!), a brisket French dip (very tasty and a horseradish sauce with a LOT of bite), a vodka pasta (was good but it actually is TOO big a portion to eat by one's self), the Ahi Tuna frites (the tuna was good and served with a nice green sauce), and the grilled cabbage side (with brown butter and some pomegranate molasses--it was actually my favorite thing!). The key distinctive thing about Laurel Grill seems to be that a lot of things get cooked by that fire which really adds a nice smoky touch (like the shrimp and the ahi tuna and the cabbage). My only major complaint would be the fries were just okay. After a minute or two they weren't crispy anymore. As good as everything else was, I thought they would step things up with the fries but they were just average. Anyways, while I overall am not that excited by the menu, it definitely is a great place to go where everybody will be able to find something tasty to eat. First off, the ambiance and crowd here are incredible. The lighting is low, the layout is well spaced, and the people are beautiful (staff and patrons). We sat at the bar and the service was friendly and prompt. They make a good old fashioned as well as bourbon and coke. The food was.. mid. My steak had some flavor and was cooked well, but I didn't want to finish even half of my loaded baked potato. The broccolini had a nice char flavor to it but lacked a bit of salt which wasn't a problem. The oysters were buttery and flavorful, but the pasta lacked flavor and anything special to make us want to eat it again. Definitely coming back here for cocktails and/or appetizers (think happy hour), not so sure about a dinner. My friend took me here for my birthday, and I'm so grateful for the treat because the restaurant is very nice on the inside, the staff is very welcoming and friendly, the food is delicious. This is a higher end restaurant as the prices are a bit higher, but the food and drinks are worth the splurge. I ordered the Cajun shrimp salad and the presentation was very nice and the portion of avocado was generous. The shrimp was delicious with the added Cajun spices, but please know that they are not spicy in terms of being too hot to eat. I ordered the Emerald City drink which was refreshing. I've been to their sister restaurant (Laurel Hardware) and must say, both places have such an amazing ambiance, but the food unfortunately does not justify the prices. Needless to say, the food was overall good, just nothing to rave about. I'd 100% recommend the Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, as well as to try their Lemon Pasta as that's one of their more popular dishes. The Avocado & Queso Dip was also pretty good. The pizza we ordered was okay as both were a bit dry and mushy - Pepperoni tastes pretty standard, but I don't recommend the Mushroom. Caesar Salad was chopped up a bit more than what I've seen before, and was also just average and included some extra large croutons. Laurel Grill gives me the same vibes as Cheesecake Factory but with better prices, more lit up ambiance and a menu that is just diverse or even moreso. My fiancé and I went during one of the rainy days last week and we were beyond thankful to get a seat at the bar as fast as we did. I also feel like it would be wise to book a reservation early if you want to have a nice booth or table. The waitress/bartender we had was so nice and efficient as well. We came as a walk in and there was about a 45 min wait. There was a patio server who brought us water and offered to get us drinks as we waited which was very kind It was a little noisy inside but it was also around 7:30pm. We didn't mind it but it was something we thought about if we ever had our parents in town who are a bit older. Once we were seated we ended up waiting a few minutes but the lovely Phoebe came and checked on us. She ended up helping us for the rest of the night. She gave lovely recommendations and was so kind. Lovely decor, and windows all around looking down on the Culver Steps plaza, and Culver Blvd. We just had salads when I was there, but they were definitely special. I had the chicken caesar ($16), rather small portion but very fresh lettuce, good dressing, nicely roasted chicken spears. Matt had the Asian Chicken Salad ($26), and loved it. I dont know where to start but I have plenty of issues after dinner Sunday night: Overall The restaurant feels like a Hillstone knockoff but Im sure we have all heard that before. Based on our experience the investors took a huge risk. If Laurel maintains what they are currently serving they are in trouble. They have a lot of seats to fill. We ordered the fried calamari to start for $24 which is very high for a very below average product. The breading/coating on the calamari completely separated from the calamari every time you stuck a fork in it or dipped in the sauce. We were halfway through our first order when I showed our server and she was a deer in highlights observing an entire dish of the fried calamari coating laying lifeless on the plate all alone, calamari-less, She went to share with the chef, brought back another exactly the same. No one asked if better, it sucked, we paid full price when the bill came. My entree was the Ahi Tuna Frites@$39. The story of this item is seared tuna, and it may have been seared but the day before. It was cold all over and disgusting. French fries were acceptable. I tasted a bit e of my daughter's cheeseburger. At first there was hope but then as I bit with a bit more force everyone heard the tooth on bone sound. I had to spit it out. The other two at dinner ordered the Fire Roasted Rotisserie Chicken. It looked reheated and apparently tasted like it also. Both did not eat even half. At that point we wanted out. It was so bad. Laurel Grill is a restaurant that I cannot see ever making it. They have to reverse so much that is negative, fast! I should have told the manager it's just not reasonable I should pay for this inedible mess.
