    Babagnoush and a garlic sauce.

The food was great and service was quick based on how packed and under staff they were. Ambiance is like a normal American diner. The Mediterranean mix grill was great, it was just missing the chicken and lamb shawarma 2 pcs each. Platter can feed 6 people for sure. It came with rice, fatoush salad (loved it) and babagnoush. Kids loved the mac and cheese and mozzarella sticks. Pastrami was good too. Had the dual sandwich- forgot to take picture. Will definitely visit and recommend. They are hiring for waitress 1-2 needed.

Update: Starting 7/24/26, 20% off your entire bill on Fridays Only, from 2-8pm, Dine-In Only! Lava Diner used to be the New Hyde Park Diner but the new owners decided to combine a good old-fashioned American diner and a Mediterranean restaurant! Great concept! You can have your pancakes and Baba Ganoush at the same meal! Let's Goooo!! Hahaha Be warned: the Mediterranean menu is only available AFTER 2pm daily!! Let's be real. I came here to check out their Mediterranean options. There was a rather large variety of Mediterranean items! I don't know what I was expecting but I was pleasantly surprised. Now, can you find better Mediterranean places in Queens? Most definitely!! But for Nassau County, this place is great! Note that your entire party much be present BEFORE you can be seated! While we were waiting for our entire party to arrive, the lovely hostess gave us all small cups of complimentary spiced tea. It was fantastic!! But be carefully because it was steaming HOT! A great way to start our evening. We decided to dine family-style, so that we could sample a variety of dishes. This was our MENU (shared by 5ppl): -- Watermelon Salad ($17): organic watermelon, feta cheese. Who knew watermelon and feta could taste so good together?! This was supposed to be served with fresh mint but there wasn't any. This was really tasty and refreshing! I thought the price was a little high for watermelon and feta but I would totally make this at home in the future. The portion size was pretty large and can be shared by 4-5ppl. -- Mixed Mezz ($14): comes w.One Pita Bread (cut into 4 pcs), Hummus, Baba Ghanouj, Labneh, & 2 Falafel Balls. These spreads were terrific but we wished it came with more Falafels and Pita Bread. Great nonetheless! -- Lamb Chops (5pcs/$38): served w.rice, salad, tahini sauce. These chops were fantastic! Nice sear to the chops; pretty tasty and satisfying! -- Salmon Kebab ($38): served w.rice, salad, tahini sauce. Although the salmon was slightly more well-done than I personally prefer, everyone in my group loved it. -- Lava Mixed Platter ($18): Lamb/Beef Shawarma & Chicken Shawarma w.rice, salad, tahini sauce. This was unanimously the worst dish of the night. The Shawarma had no sear to it at all, and was very bland & boring. Not Recommended! ***One major critique I would give is to NOT serve the salad, appetizers and entrees ALL at the same time! It was a bit overwhelming to have everything we ordered, served at the same time. The entrees got cold as we were eating our salad and appetizers. Should I have told them not to serve everything all at once? I would think most restaurants know not to do that?! Next time, I will specify just to be sure. All in all, a pretty good meal! I would definitely go back to try other menu items! Good luck to the new owners and welcome to the neighborhood!! Thanks for bringing more culture to Long Island!!

Reservations are highly recommended. A lot of my mom friends rave about this place and I got to dine here twice with them, once for brunch and the other for dinner. The first time I came here was with my child for brunch. I got a mocktail and we ordered chicken and waffles along the unadvertised kids menu containing chicken fingers and fries. Portions for both dishes were generous and took home the leftovers. We also shared the Brussels sprouts and the infamois complimentary bread, which were really good. The second and most recent time we went was for dinner with the a huge group of moms. We shared the Caesar salad, Brussels sprouts, and general two's cauliflower, which was amazing. I had the red sangria and a taste of the Huckleberry lemonade, drinks were strong. For the entrees I ordered the salmon and once again portion was huge, took it home and the hubby ate the leftovers. Other moms ordered the frose, spicy paloma, le poulet and spicy Rigatoni. At the end we had key lime pie which tasted great but I was too full to finish it. I'll be coming to this spot more often because of great company and food!

This one is every ounce of what they market online. The food is amazing. The staff is amazing. Inside is amazing. There's even plenty of parking near the local train station. The marketing team did an outstanding job representing this restaurant. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

It immediately gave me that cozy, old school neighborhood Italian restaurant feel, almost like the set of Cheers. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and packed with people. I ordered the Short Rib Pappardelle and the Grilled Lamb Chops, and both were a 10/10. The pasta was rich and flavorful, and the lamb chops were cooked perfectly. Even my brother, who's a very picky eater, thoroughly enjoyed his meal. The food smelled so incredible on the drive home that I was honestly tempted to pull over and eat it in the car. For takeout, you exit the main entrance and walk around the corner to the back of the building, where they have a separate area serving pizza and other quick bites. When I arrived around 5:30 p.m., the restaurant was bustling, and the takeout counter was lined with orders waiting to be picked up. They also offer outdoor dining. While I was waiting, I noticed the portions being served to diners at the bar, and they definitely don't skimp. The servings are generous, which makes the value even better. It's easy to see why this place is such a neighborhood favorite. Great food, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere. I'll definitely be making the drive from Brooklyn again.

In the morning after stopping by the Resort World New York by car, CL seems to be within reach and we seized the opportunity! We arrived at 11:25 AM shortly after it opened. Only two people in front of us and we finished placing the order by 11:30 AM. We were told there would be a 1 to 1 1/2 hour wait before the order could be ready. So, we lounged at the nearby Starbucks for an hour before returning -- a highly recommended option! After 1.5 hours, I asked for my name. Nothing. 1 hour 45 min, nothing. 2 hours, nothing. We thought this was ridiculous and confronted the ordering counter. Alas, they realized our "receipt" was lost. They promised to fulfill it right away; however, the next batch of ribs wouldn't be for another 20 minutes! It's turned out to be a total nightmare - 2.5 hours of waiting, with the 104° record heat to boot. I was plotting to slaughter the review as I waited; fortunately, the guy at the ordering counter knew how to make it right by giving us additional portion of proteins. So was the food worth it? Not with that amount of waiting but it was good. The dark chicken meat was moist and tasty. Chicken breasts were customarily dry, but the magical green sauce more than compensated for the dryness. That green sauce made this whole meal stand out for sure. It had massive amount of cilantro and garlic as far as I could tell. I'd like to think of it as Asian pesto. Although it's a "chicken" joint, everyone in my party unanimously preferred the ribs - uniformly tender and easier to eat. Oh, remember to grab some plastic gloves on your way out!

The menu has very detailed, almost elevated descriptions that make everything sound spectacular, but in practice the flavors don't quite come through, especially the sauces, which are barely noticeable. Our server was flexible when we asked to swap the potato chips for fries on the kids' grilled cheese meal, which we appreciated. However, we were then charged $1.40 for a side of ranch for the fries. I understand they have a range of specialty sauces and dips that are clearly priced on the menu, but that still felt steep for ranch. They also offer a combo option to add fries for $5, but the portion doesn't really feel aligned with the price. The steak sandwich itself was surprisingly tender, even though it looked like it might be tough. That said, I couldn't taste the roasted red pepper sauce, and the "sweet onion jam" turned out to just be caramelized onions. My mother actually ended up picking them out because she doesn't eat onions. (she won't eat onions that she can see) The buffalo cauliflower was tasty, but could have been crispier. The "serves two" description also felt a bit generous given the small portion. I also ordered a brisket sandwich to go with fries. The coleslaw sounded great on the menu, but in reality the flavors didn't stand out, no real hint of jalapeño, just a fairly standard slaw. Overall, the food descriptions felt more impressive than the actual execution, though the to-go fries portion was more generous, which was a nice surprise. Would I go back? I'm not sure. Maybe for a casual visit with a few beers and fries with an assortment of dipping sauces...I am a sucker for those.
