When you're craving something besides White Castle and it's after midnight where do you go? Well, if you're like me you think shrimp. And when you think shrimp after midnight you think of Lawrence's. To be fair I eat here about once every 10 years. Not because the food is bad or because in Chicago there are literally 100's of places open after midnight where you can get just about any kind of food. It's because I've been living in Phoenix for the last 30 years. That being said when I did live in Chicago for the previous 30 years I've eaten here often. Very often. I probably started eating here before I could drive with my father. And I'm happy to say that other than the building and its surroundings the recipes haven't changed. I've also never had anything other than the shrimp and fries. And the shrimp are still large, freshly fried with a cornmeal breading that is exactly what I'm craving when I come here. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. And the customers are probably some of the most loyal customers around. Why 4 stars. The breaded French fries. I prefer the fresh cut fries you get from our hot dog and beef stands to breaded fries. Second maybe crinkle cut but breaded takes it down a notch. Hey, Northsiders, you're all welcome here. I even wore my Cubs shirt.

Picture of some shitty food from Lawrence's. Nothing but batter and zero taste

Lawrence used to batter and fry there food in the day. Now it's come frozen out a bag. Places like DOCKS, Sharks, Babbas and a few others batter. This place has become a shell of itself.

I did a Grubhub. The wings were the best thing on my plate. I got wings fries shrimp and whole catfish. I wish the catfish was fried harder and the shrimp was over cooked. Fries were good you can tell they were pre cooked. The caramel cake was good but all the caramel was on the top of the container. All in all decent probably won't order again unless I was super hungry.

Open 24 hours. Extremely salty and over seasoned, (something I never say.) private parking lot. Handicap accessible parking spaces. Ate in the parking lot and lost my appetite once I saw rats crawling around the patio while eating in the car. Good for late nights early mornings when food options are slim.

Nice place, great fried food and don't be in a rush because they fry everything fresh. If you like your shrimp and food fried this is the perfect place for you. Thanks Ron

Service was 5 stars, but the fish & shrimp came with a side of ocean nostalgia I didn't order. Got the catfish strip combo and a large shrimp--both smelled like they'd been reminiscing about the ocean a little too long. Heavily breaded, barely any seasoning... my taste buds were looking for flavor like it owed them money. For $35, I could've gone to the store, grabbed some fish, and thrown my own seasoning party. On the bright side, the place was spotless, the staff greeted me like we were old friends, and my online order was hot and ready the moment I walked in. Service? A+. Flavor? Needs a little rescue mission.

I haven't eaten at Lawrence's since the 80's and that was only once. I now remember why it has been that long. Pros: Large parking area, spacious seating inside and out, customer service is excellent, able to see food being made, stroll to the river. The location and size is beautiful and makes a great date night. Cons: The Food. I ordered whiting, perch, corn fritters, fried okra and chicken wings. The only thing I could tolerate were the wings and my kids ate the fritters. My husband didn't like any of it. The batter on everything tastes the same. It has a sweet taste to it as if they used the corn fritter batter on the okra and fish. I couldn't finish any of it but the wings. Waste of money. I won't be returning. The 2 stars is for the location and the size. It really is cool to look at and offers a great ambiance.

    Is the shrimp deveined?

I've never had shrimp there that wasn't.

On the menu, the "half chicken" item has an asterisk after it. but doesn't seem to be an explanation as to what that means. Anybody? thanks.

Only comes in half size, not full

Are the crab cakes made in house and are they hand breaded? Thanks.

The mushroom and kale pie was nice and cheesy and the rocking vegan pie was more savoury, with a variety of vegetables and chickpeas as stuffing. The crust was neither too soft nor too crunchy. The highlight of the meal was the curry chips: potato wedges lightly fried with masala and curry leaves. The dipping sauce that came with the chips reminded me of tikka masala sauce, and paired beautifully with the chips. Dessert was toffee pudding: the caramel sauce that came with the pudding was delectable - the pudding itself was excellent and not overly sweet. We tried a variety of NA beers, and I was pleased with how many options they had. Service was quick, and we were well looked after. The ambiance is warm, with dim-ish lighting and a lot of dark wood. The restrooms were gorgeous - special shoutout to the lovely floral wallpaper. Overall, I highly recommend Pleasant House - the vibe is chill and understated and the food is stellar.

The sausage was very tasty, the breading on the outside was incredibly crisp, light, and the egg inside was cooked well. Both the steak pie and the chicken pie were very good. The chicken pie I think really needed the chutney that you can get separately. But that made it so much better and made it my preferred pie. The steak and ale pie was better than the chicken pie as a standalone, but needed a bit more gravy I think to elevate it. Sticky toffee pudding again was delicious. Surprisingly light, not overly dense so I was glad it came with the custard which was very flavorful. Overall, will definitely return!

The ambiance was charming and transported me to the pubs in England. I ordered a kale salad which hit the spot as I had not eaten anything healthy the day before:). While the food, drinks and ambiance were great, I am giving 5 stars due to Vicente and Michael. We had various people in our party and I had older children who were rushing off to the train stations I asked A LOT of questions about the vouchers and the food and drink items as I was juggling a few situations at the moment. Vicente and Michael were so personable and were not annoyed with all of my questions! What was really impressive, however, was that I only had a couple of dollars for a tip. Michael was so understanding and told me that it is even better when customers are kind and friendly. He seemed to have been perfectly fine without getting a tip, even after spending several minutes helping us figure out how to order! I was very impressed! Who knew that a pot pie could be seductive? Expect an ENCHANTING atmosphere that transports you straight to a cozy British pub, where dark wood, dim lighting, and timeless charm set the scene for one of the best meals you'll ever have. You can't come here without ordering one of their SIGNATURE pot pies, which are rich, creamy, deeply savory, and packed with flavor, all tucked beneath a golden, impossibly flaky and buttery crust and served with a decadent bone marrow. Their Wagyu Double Cheeseburger is another MUST-ORDER. A familiar classic made incredibly indulgent and unforgettable. And of course, you have to end your meal with their famous Sticky Date Cake -- warm, rich, and wonderfully gooey. A tender date cake drenched in buttery toffee sauce and finished with a scoop of cold, creamy brown butter gelato. The service was excellent, and the food came out remarkably quickly. Dare I say, Armitage Alehouse is better than Trivoli Tavern -- it has stolen the crown as my personal favorite Hogsalt restaurant. In fact, I'd argue that it has earned a place among the very best restaurants in Chicago -- and for me, may well be the best of them all.

But Trivoli Tavern? This place absolutely delivered! First off, the restaurant itself is beautiful. Great atmosphere, great energy, and definitely a place I'd come back to just for the environment alone. I started with: Old Fashioned Bee's Knees - a house cocktail recommended by our waitress House Salad - that red wine vinaigrette was DELICIOUS!
