Stopped by this restaurant after a nice beach day. This was our first visit and we loved it. My wife had the Lobster scargot and I had the lobster tacos. Tons of flavor in the tacos and I would highly recommend them. A nice sweet and slightly spicy(not hot) flavor profile. Very delicious! Picture listed to see how well they were presented. We both enjoyed our meals and left plenty full. Our service was great, though we didn't have a reservation(I would recommend getting one if you can and we will know for next time), we were seated immediately upon walking in. Thankfully they had high tops, the bar area and outdoor seating available on a first come first serve basis. They brought water and rolls to the table before our server(Nicole) came to take our orders. We also had the fried green tomatoes, which were also delicious. We had a reservation for 6:30. Arrived at 6:15 and was seated immediately. The restaurant is clean and the salt water aquarium is a definite plus. We came to try the Lazy Lobster for the Savor Sarasota event. Our table all chose the Savor Sarasota special. I will say that they do NOT skimp on the food. Three courses of food (regular size). I chose the Big Bang Shrimp with cheesy grits (DELICIOUS), Lobster Bisque (creamy and lots of lobster pieces), and the Flounder Francaise (the green beans and rice were well seasoned). 4.5 actually. Came in for a late lunch and surprised to see a fresh update on the decor. The old "Cafe on the Bay" mural was gone. A fresh look gave it a pleasant beach vibe. Greeted and seated. Well designed lunch menu with something for everyone. We chose; crab cake salad, lobster quiche Loraine and Key West fried shrimp. We all agreed excellent preparation, presentation and delicious. Overall a good meal, but definitely started off on a weird foot. Our friend made reservations for our group, splitting us up into our families, so that was three sets of four people and one set of five people. She thought it was easier than asking for us to all sit together. When I checked in we were hoping to at least get tables close together. One person made all the reservation so I was surprised that they seemed somewhat testy with our request. I was the one who got to experience this since my family arrived first. I just asked if possible we'd like to sit close to each other and the person checking us in kept saying I wish you had said that earlier with a scowl. Again, it was totally fine that they couldn't and I told her that. All the families arrived and we sat outside in the heat letting the kids run around. I finally went back in to say again we can sit separately if that will seat us faster. I was told oh your tables have been ready, we were just waiting for you to come back inside. I find this baffling that the woman saw all of us sitting outside waiting and she didn't come out to tell us our tables were ready. Then we ended up getting differing information from different servers. We didn't come expecting to be served the early bird menu since our reservation was for 5 p.m. and it ends at 5 p.m. We were seated right before 5 p.m., but I'm used to restaurants that say your order has to be in by the end time. However, our friend's waiter told them they could have early bird menu, whereas ours told us we couldn't. Again, I wasn't expecting it, so I just mentioned it to our server that another table in our group got it. I think we ended up with a random compromise, I got the early bird price for my drink, but we paid full price for the Chicken Marsala. Once all that weirdness was out of the way, our experience was pretty pleasant. I forget that we're used to being in places that kids are common not the exception. I think Longboat Key is a much older clientele so the kids were side eyed a bit by other patrons. All the families I was vacationing with have at least two kids under the age of six. However all our kids are used to eating at fine dining establishments and the ones that are more unruly always get tablets with headphones. The clientele here is definitely on the older side. The food itself was very good. I got an appetizer of the lobster mac and cheese which I really enjoyed and for my main I got a lobster roll, which was also good. My husband said he liked his chicken marsala. The kids went with mac n cheese and chicken fingers. Both seemed to like it fine. Overall I enjoyed this meal. I would recommend it, but probably more to adults without children. read more

Excellent experience at the Lazy Lobster for over a decade! Our family loves the choices the chef and menu designers make for many of these classics. Had the potato crusted grouper, which was INCREDIBLE. Seriously. This dish is pretty much a classic example of being greater than the sum of its parts. Deliciously tender fresh grouper, crispy hash brown crust, and a mustard cream sauce that all works together beautifully. The brussell sprouts were also seasoned perfectly, served with some sliced sautéed shallots. Other dishes enjoyed include the unique Shrimp Norma (makes a great sharing platter too!) the Swordfish Delaney, and the crab cake appetizer. Try out the "Savor Sarasota" menu if you happen to come in June! One continual critique is that the buttery green beans are not our favorite for being a bit too adente for our liking, but that might be your preferred style. Service is always incredibly polite and super attentive. There is one female worker who is always quick to refill waters before even asking. We look forward to visiting every year. What a great place. We came here last year and now again this year. It is very low key and chill inside but food is outstanding. We love their fresh hot bread! So amazing. Just had another delicious meal at Lazy Lobster. My Lobster Thermidor was OUTSTANDING! The lobster meat was just the right consistency and very tasty. Yummy with good/happy vibes. Our waitress was so sweet and friendly. I wish I knew her name. I got the salmon BLT wrap and potato salad. I loved the wrap. It was huge and packed with fish. The ambience is just exactly what you want when visiting the keys my husband and I make it a point to stop there on our way into our final destination and again on our way out. This trip we had the pleasure of being taken care of on both our visits by the same young lady, Lily. Absolutely wonderful disposition, she gave great menu recommendations and just to sit back and watch the her work ethics and the entire operations of this place. Absolutely phenomenal. The team seem genuinely happy. The management is engaged and walking around making sure everybody's enjoying their time. It's really wonderful. The food.... Absolutely LOVE the banana nut bread side, we found ourselves, taking extra extra and enjoying it with our coffee in our hotel. Everything from the jalapeño lobster bites to a plain lobster tail with a side of rice the Greek salad, the soups.... we enjoyed every bit of it and look forward to our next keys trip that will bring us back to this gem of a family owned restaurant! On the way to the beach and craving a burger, this place really hit the spot! I called in and ordered takeout. My order was ready in less than 20 mimnutes, and I was feasting in my car. Eatin out during the pandemic has been interesting to say the least, but I was happy to devour this in the parking lot, with my AC blasting. The Burger was cooked to perfection and had this deep charred grill marks that is exactly what I want when eating a burger at the beach. Reminds me of my child ood. The fries were great as well! Fried green tomatoes - these were a huge surprise. They were so good! Really glad I ordered these. For a little vegtable alongside all the fried goodness, we got a salad with yep you guessed it, fried shirmp. haha whatever, it's vacation. The coconut shrimp were HUGE, and delicious. We visited the Lazy Lobster for our Christmas dinner! We had a party of 10 and it was a holiday, so I will give our server a little grace as it was probably the end of a long day. I had some delicious crab cakes for an appetizer and the Creole Shrimp Mac & Cheese for dinner. My daughter had it as well and even though it was a little spicy for a 12 year old, it was delicious! And we took home the leftovers and they were just as good reheated and sometimes with saucy pasta it just turns to oil, but this was delicious the next day! My husband loved his scallops dinner, which were served with risotto, corn and asparagus. He didn't think the lobster bisque soup lived up the hype, though, and he loves lobster bisque soup. The food quality is hit or miss. For a $55 plate, there should be no cold food or poorly prepared items. Disappointing to order a lobster special with a scalloped potato side, and Brussels sprouts were clearly frozen/microwaved and then quickly burnt in a pan before plating. My 15 year old has better plating presentation skills. Our server was great and I shared with him that the Brussels were trash and he brought out spinach quickly. Not much better. The spinach was drowning in butter and a lethal dose of garlic. The food prep or cooks are lost and just throwing food together with little care. They do have a good wine selection and the place does get busy but this is a one and done for me. I'm uncertain why this place is a draw. No music, small crowded bar but again, really good service. For most people, I'd say this restaurant is worth trying and deciding for yourself but for me, $200 should be a very good meal, and this was not. You would probably miss this restaurant if you didn't know it was there because it's not very visible from the road, tucked into a strip mall. But it would be a shame if you DID miss it because Lazy Lobster is one of the best eateries on Longboat Key. The crowd on a Sunday night confirms this fact. Our friends recommended that we arrive in time to take advantage of the Early Bird prices (must be seated before 5:15 p.m.) which saves you anywhere from about $2 to $5+ on an entree. Well worth it. Drinks were good. Nice variety. Our friend spoke highly of the New England Clam Chowder. In truth, it was canned soup but fairly decent. Would I order it again? Probably not. Two of our group had the Lobster Escargot and Salad. Very small (think dime-size) pieces (not chunks) of lobster are placed in the recesses of an escargot dish and covered with a thick layer of Swiss cheese. The garlic butter had no garlic flavor at all (perhaps the chef forgot to add it with the lobster and butter?) The small amount of lobster meat was fine for me - someone who eats very little - but would not have satisfied the average diner. A choice of salad (garden, Caesar or Mediterranean) accompanies the seafood. I think the $21 price tag was a bit steep in consideration of the measly lobster portion. My husband ordered the Lobster Tacos which proved to be a much more generous presentation of the crustacean than my entree. Fried to perfection, served in two soft tortillas, they were a hit at $25. The Shrimp Scampi was enjoyed by another person in our group who had previously ordered this seafood linguini dish. Lastly, the Atlantic Cod was also well received. Our friends shared a slice of Key Lime Pie which was very good - just a tad tart as it should be, and with the appropriate graham cracker crust. This restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. They get very busy and turn over tables quickly. The service is attentive. Lazy Lobster is well worth a visit. read more
