Ambience counts and over the years, I really enjoy seeing how the mural has progressed. Having watched it from the first paint strokes, I am happy to see it only gets better with age. A labor of love, much like their wedding cakes, it lends the feel of a true Parisian Bakery. A place to have a cup of good cafe au lait, a petite four, you are transported to the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. Though the faces are truly New Mexican, it is a nice blend of Paris and NM. Sad to see they have hit or miss days, after reading some of the reviews here, I hope that will not deter you. They have some reliable things that are unusual. The croissants are worth it. How many shoppes actually make theirs from scratch? They are works of love. Can get them stuffed with green chile, turkey or ham and cheese, several other interesting ingredients. I like them. Pure and simple good eats. In Paris, these would pass with flying colours. The chocolate eclairs, also pass the test of authenticity. Quiches of several lovely varieties make for a good lunch. I like anything with green chile that they offer. Also really enjoy finding treats here for my mom, who is often off her food these days. But coming here is like a small trip to France or Switzerland for a petite four and a cup of good coffee. Nothing fancy, really. But special in its own right. I like that everything is made from scratch. Coffee is good, real cream, always a plus. Nothing is as irritating as fake creamer. This place must buy butter and cream by the ton, the butter cream is the real deal. The recipes are rock solid. Yes, every place can have bad days, and the staff might just have their favorites. For me, they have always been helpful and kind to me and my picky little mother. For me that is a big deal. She is a true expert for anything chocolate and pretty much everything she has tried along those lines has passed her finicky test. Win! The Challah is a Friday staple, not the best I have ever had. But it is hard to find good Jewish fare here in New Mexico, imnsho. The baquettes are reliable. The chocolates solidly lovely. I have not yet tried their catering, but the turkey is always succulent and fresh that they add to their sandwiches and croissants. We have enjoyed every soup we have tried here. I can imagine that their catering would hold up to any here in town. I would like to try one of their wedding cakes and intend to. Not that I am getting married, but just to be able to order a cake of such perfection. Why not, I say! I will always miss Zinns and the horrible way their shoppe had to close. But as a bakeries go here, you can get some good Jewish Rye and Challah. Not the best, but then again, this is not NYC. And these days, Trader Joe's Jewish Rye is very reliable and fresh as well. So all is not lost, if you need to make your own Reuben, for instance, which I hope everyone does. We lost the best Reuben in town a long time ago, and none of the new places have yet to compare. I love Le Chantilly. This is definitely another place I make sure to eat at when I'm in Albuquerque. Their bakery case is amazing; decorated cakes, pastries, breads, cookies and other desserts is enough to satisfy any sweet tooth. Their sandwiches are excellent. I typically always get my sandwich on a whole wheat croissant, which is very good. They have different quiches that are also fabulous. A great place to stop for a quick lunch. read more

We had high hopes going in but as soon as we sat down I noticed one of the servers wearing a sweatshirt with the hood pulled over her head. Needless to say that did not create a very positive image. Well in turns out, after overhearing the server talk to other customers, that she had food poisoning! She said that she could not even keep down water! WOW! So she is a server, she had food poisoning and she still went to work!? Why did the "manager" allow her to keep working? We walked out without ordering anything. read more

Customer service is horrible!!!! When I called back to speak to the manager about my experience this punk kid answered the phone and said "Who is this?!!" Very disappointed in this place. Came to do wedding cake tasting, but it was an awful experience. The guy that helped us had no experience with wedding anything. Meanwhile the lady(owner, I think) who normally handles wedding cake tastings was chatting it up at the counter, he had to keep asking some other girl our questions. The cakes were dry, and he also mentioned they had been previously frozen. He couldn't tell us what cakes we were trying. And every one of them had nuts on it. read more

I wouldn't go there if you're in a hurry. Seems to be perpetually shorthanded, on this I agree with other reviews. Pastries are good. Seems to be a meeting place for a lot of old geezers who drink coffee and read the paper. That's ok, I'm a geezer myself. Instead of oven-heating they microwave heat their pastries, a sure recipe to turn bread to rubber. IMHO this place needs an enthusiastic new owner. Get rid of the old, worn out menus. I will start off by saying, the sweets here all look amazing. I had an Alexander something (a cookie filled with raspberry jelly) and it was actually good. I also tried a brownie and I wasn't too impressed. The brownie wasn't horrible, but it wasn't like a "normal brownie". I think the texture really psyched me out. I feel the prices here are a little unreasonable. I don't at all feel I got my bang for my buck. The atmosphere there is very weird, and the staff isn't friendly. I feel if you are trying to sell an expensive product you need to be friendly with the customers because you can make or break your business that way. read more

I can't stand this place. The front counter people they hire look like they need to remove fifteen tons of makeup. Either that or they are swilling themselves in the frosting and flour. On top of that, they ignore you when you come in and pretend to make their way around the corner of the counters. I timed them. It takes them approximately 4 minutes to get back to where the straws are near the cash register. Then, they act like they are doing you a favor by asking you what you want. ("What do I want? Uh...baked items? Hello??!!!!) Pass this place by. They are terrible - and their Napoleons and other items are stale and they try to pass them off as fresh with prices to match. Ugh. read more

I have had the best pasterys here. but sort of sad to see a continual downslide of good food ....this day, dried out apricot twist....the chicken sandwich was mostly bread and some not so good chicken ...the waitress cleared a table with her fingers carrying four glasses on the inside of the dirty glasses....when she set them down, she started making my sandwich with one glove and a swish of water over the hands, no soap....I asked her to properly wash her hands, she said, "but I did!" I thought she was going to cry, I told the owner and received a story that we are too concerned with germs which is contributing to illness..... and so on. read more

Any business with a bakery case I find myself gawking at wins some major points right off the bat, and Le Chantilly definitely scored in this department. Plenty of fancy decorated cakes, pastries, breads and cookies to satisfy window shoppers and appetites alike. Good for an afternoon treat, daily bread, or catering an occasion. Very tasty whole wheat croissants, but get there early or they may be sold out. Le Chantilly also offers a lunch menu and coffee drinks. Definitely not a fancy dine-in atmosphere, but there is an impressive mural on the wall to gaze at when not gazing at the baked goods. read more

PETIT FOURS! I love, love, love these little cakes, and Le Chantilly makes the best ones I have ever eaten. Try the pink ones--they're vanilla with raspberry filling and are as tasty as they are cute--total Marie Antoinette food. As far as other baked goods go, if you're crazy about marzipan, try the Almond Pocket, a croissant-type treat filled with almond paste and topped with royal icing. I am not the biggest fan of lunch here, since I am not a soup-and-sandwich person, but I must say that the homemade mayo in the chicken salad is heaven on earth! It's worth going in just to see the incredible mural of a parisian street that takes up a whole wall. I remember coming in when I was little and seeing the artist working on it. I cut the first slice and nonchalantly offered 'tastes: OMG: a but subtle taste of chocolate...nary a hint of being overly sweet; it's the smoothness/the silkiness of the filling/icing that gets ya-tantalizes your palate...its richness is indescribably, nastily decadent. I was deeply disappointed after spending $13 on 2 desserts. Not only were they mediocre, but nothing close to a french pastry. The pastry dough inside was bone dry, topped off with artificial cream with hardly any natural flavor. These pastries certainly did not taste authentic and creamy and moist like authentic French pastry. I do not recommend this place for so-called French pastries. I actually wanted my money back after taking one or 2 bites. read more

My friend & I had lunch on a Saturday & it wasn't too crowded. I like that you can seat yourself at any table you choose & there was a fresh rose on each table, a nice touch. All the bakery goods smelled delicious! The choices for lunch were sandwiches, soups, salads, & quiche at reasonable prices. I had the half ham & gruyere cheese sandwich with a choice of potato salad or fruit. I particularly selected that sandwich because of the cheese which I hadn't had in so long along with the homemade potato salad because I had heard about the amazing dill mayo. We waited a while after the server took our order, but then she returned to tell me they were out of gruyere cheese - darn! This surprised me because it wasn't even a late lunch. So I substituted provolone. Since I also had my choice of bread, I chose the whole wheat croissants for which they are well known. My friend had the green chili quiche which did not include any sides but 2 orange slices garnished the plate. Problems were no salt on the table, not being able to get our server to bring us some, as they do double duty serving customers in the bakery, so having to hunt for my own salt - lots of pepper shakers, salt is scarce! My friend ordered coffee but none was ever brought to our table & once again our server was nowhere in sight for a good long while, so she flagged down another server who did bring the coffee although it was long after it was requested. This is my favorite/must place to visit every time I come home. The apricot tarts are the best I have ever eaten!!! I also love the stuffed croissants and almond Danish. Very few bakeries make items like they do-they are 100% real and delicious! read more

The quiche is decent but served on a small plate with a half an orange slice and wilted lettuce. Worst part. Dressing was spilled all over my back, the waitress apologized and tried her best to clean me up. The manager apologized as well. However, the owner was "on the phone" and never came over to offer help or apologize. The manager told me the server had been let go. The implication being I should feel bad that she was let go FOR THE DAY I was told later. I will NEVER go there again. read more
