Always consistently good sandwiches. I used to frequent this place years ago when my sister and ex used to live in Irvine. Sadly i only go ever so often now whenever im in the area (which is once a year at most) but the taste and quality is always the same. Always AMAZING! i introduced many of my friends and family to this place and there has not been one person who doesnt immediately fall in love and get hooked. Years ago before my metabolism sadly slowed down on me.. i would order two sandwiches. One to eat immediately and another to go to eat later on into the day. But.. that never happens.. i would always end up unwrapping the second one and stuffing myself crazy full. Totally worth the food coma. This place has such unique sandwiches. The idea sounds pretty simple, but I have yet to find a place that sells sandwiches similar to these anywhere else. First of all, I would recommend ordering a sandwich with ingredients based off of your likes. I've pretty much tried and liked all the sandwiches containing chicken garlic: with mushrooms, broccoli, artichoke, etc. i think my favorite is the chicken artichoke, and I always ask for sriracha on the side. The taste of the buttery garlic mayo on a crunchy yet soft bread gets me every time. I love this place, and miss it dearly now that I am gone. My aunt used to live across the street from UTC when I was growing up & we went here all the time. Now, I live here & I eat here sometimes. For the last decade or so, I've enjoyed too many sandwiches here for me not to write a review. I recommend getting the garlic chicken with extra garlic. I'm also ace & this place has mega ace vibes going on. Highly recommend the garlic chicken sandwich with a side of siraracha sauce & maybe an extra garlic sauce just because. As a new Irvine resident, this place is a blessing from God. Holy crap, a tasty toasted sandwich joint in Irvine! Hallelujah! I swear theres probably a pristine light which pierces from the clouds and blesses this establishment when the weather is just right. If you guys are ever in the Irvine area and need a good meal..this is THE place to go to. Hand's down one of the best mom and pop shops that Irvine has to offer. Order the hot grilled sandwiches. Eggplant Chicken with Garlic Sauce is probably the best sandwich. WHATS GOOD LEDIP!!! yeahhhh this place is across the street from UCI, cheap, fast, variety, and bombaliciously party in your mouth... most sandwiches range from about 5 to 7 bucks, and can be ordered in halves as well. They tend to put this mayo sauce in it, and its sooooo good but fattening. but eh, im a guy so fat is the last thing im worrying about :) the reason im not giving this place five stars is because the interior and such. they have literally 8 chairs inside the entire joint, and fourish right outside. the university center has a lot of chairs outside and all, but ughhhhh me dont wanna walk all the way back to ledip for water refills T T. I absolutely love this place! I have come here multiple times and have just come around to write a review. The sandwiches are super cheap. The 5 inch is $3something and the 9 inch is 5something. I always get the chicken eggplant and it is super filling. This is the best hot sandwich ever imo. It has garlic sauce, feta cheese, white chicken meat, grilled tomatoes and eggplants. Their breads are made at the store so they're super fresh and absolutely delicious. There is no fault I can find with this place. It's a good hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop. Le Diplomate is my favorite restaurant in the UC Center. If you're craving a quality sandwich that your wallet won't mind, this is the place to go. The location is small, and so if it's lunchtime, expect some crowding. However, this isn't usually a problem. Inside, they have four or five small tables, but if those are taken, there are plenty of seats outside. Their menu is expansive, with tons of unique and delightful sandwich options. You can have any sandwich toasted or cold. For a little bit more, you can add chips and a drink to your order. The drinks aren't too expensive, but the machine is behind the counter - so no easy refills or taste-testing. Overall, the mom-and-pop atmosphere is what makes this place special. I love how easy and quaint Le Diplomate is. You certainly do get a bang for your buck, as everything is fresh and of more-than-decent quality. Serving sizes are generous, too. I usually get the half-sandwich and feel quiet content by the end of my meal. read more

Went here for the first time today. I order the chicken, broccoli, and mushroom sandwich since I've been very curious about it. The guy in the cashier asked me if i would like ranch or garlic sauce. I said ranch since I usually just get ranch with my food. Then the guy told me that their garlic sauce is very popular and so I switched with the garlic sauce. (Thank goodness!) Anyway, sandwich was perfect. I regret the fact that I only ordered half since I thought I won't be able to finish it. Great little spot to grab a bite! Definitely one of the most reasonable places to grab a bite around UCIrvine without eating fast food or over paying for horrible food like Cha. The staff is always great, their coffee is pretty good as well, and they are usually very speedy with their order. Delicious sandwiches, fresh smoothies, and really nice service. We had the turkey and cheese sandwich and the broccoli mushroom and chicken sandwich, and the broccoli one was amazing! I will definitely be going back again, it was absolutely delicious. Typically, I would say my experiences here warrant a 4/5, sometimes more, sometimes less. I've tried three sandwiches: tuna melt (awesome), vegetarian (yes, please), and the brie melt. Now, I would say the brie melt was just as good as the other two sandwiches, but I'll have to caution that they leave in the rind that unfortunately for me leaves an utterly repugnant taste in my mouth and almost rendered the sandwich inedible to me, were it not been for the Vietnamese iced coffee I was sipping (also, note: not strong at all, espresso-wise, and did not seem like they use condensed milk? very disappointing). Overall, I come back for the price (i.e., combos!), the taste (most of the time), and the friendly countenance of the staff. I always order the chicken eggplant sandwich here. It's so good! The sandwich is messy - sometimes the sauce drips or pieces of chicken falls out but it's still delicious nonetheless. Probably the best sandwich place I've ever been too, you have to get the chicken garlic or else you aren't a normal human being. Also, get Siracha on the side and put it into your sand which, you won't regret it. Sometimes the restaurant itself can be a little dirty but that's not something I care about if it's just food To-go It gets very crowded around lunchtime so expect to wait about 15-20 for your Sandwhich. I was craving a chicken broccoli and mushroom sandwich with garlic sauce so I hit up Le Diplomate this afternoon. I got the "famous" garlic chicken baguette and she got the chicken, broccoli & mushroom baguette with garlic sauce. Jeez. It's not THAT great. Yeah, it's better than Lee's, but what isn't? This was the one place during my time at UCI that kept my mouth and stomach happy. Lee's was my first pick until it decided to go pricey and non-24 hours. The result? -The dingy storefront, shitty location, pissed-off student cashiers, mexicans in the back room making the food, interminable wait, creepy animal-shaped lumps made out of bread, undeniable lack of ambiance. But somehow all of this adds up to= one delicious sandwich. read more

Based on reviews, ordered the Chicken Broccoli Mushroom sandwich with extra garlic. The sandwich was good. No, it was not extraordinary and by no means the best sandwich I've ever had, but good! The baguette is really very good and i LOVE garlic, but everything else about the sandwich and place itself was rather mediocore. The mushrooms, broccoli, and thick chunks of chicken just didn't do it for me. The place is usually pretty crowded and usually no seating inside but there is tons of seating outside. Le Dip's garlic spread and baguette is what makes it. The garlic chicken sandwich is fire! If your not too big on sauce have them go light on the garlic spread as they usually put on a lot.
