This cafe makes great sandwiches. The prices are fair and the food is delicious. Yes, like everyone else on this page says, try the garlic sauce. My only comments to improve this place is to pay more attention to the decor and create a better ambiance for the large number of fans this cafe caters to. Also, although the sandwiches are tasty, I do get an irking sensation every time I bite in to the sandwich and know that I am enjoying a mushroom or broccoli that came from a can. First off this place is difficult to find. If you are not familiar with the area you will drive around in circles, which is what I did. This is NOT why I gave them 3 stars though. I got the Chicken and Garlic Sandwich and the bread was delicious, there is no denying that. The sauce was ok. I LOVE garlic but I didn't see the big whoop with it? It just tasted like a garlic aioli. I was expecting something else I guess because it was so hyped up. The other thing that I didn't like was nothing came on the sandwich! No tomato, lettuce or nothing! Luckily I got a salad so I used my produce from that. I also got a Vietnamese Coffee which was good but Break of Dawn still has the number one spot for Vietnamese Coffee in my book. This place has great sandwiches! I always get the broccoli chicken sandwich with garlic. The ranch sauce isn't as good. You have to get the garlic sauce! It just won't taste the same with ranch. Bring some gum so you are prepared for some stinky breath afterwards! The bread is freshly made each day and is great for lunch. It's right across the street from the UCI campus, so its always pretty crowded around lunch time. The service isn't all that great which is why I give it 4 stars. It's definitely worth the money for a 9" for around $5 and much better than Lee's in my opinion. I suggest the chicken garlic, easy sauce (way too much sauce if you don't say light), on soft baguette (I like it much better and it's less hard and flaky), or the chicken eggplant if you like eggplant. Okay... so I am pretty impressed at all of the reviews this place has already gotten. About 370+ now. It seems to be a great spot with all the college kids. Their prices are very reasonable for a sandwich and its better than eating at a Subway. But.... I've had some really good Vietnamese sandwiches back in Philly so when I moved out here, I was looking to find a good shop that made them. After doing some searching on Yelp, Le Diplomate cafe came up and after reading a bunch of reviews, I thought I'd try it. Thinking this place was going to be somewhat of a Vietnamese sandwich shop, I was kind of wrong. Besides the 3 "Vietnamese" sandwiches that they make, nothing else about their menu was "Vietnamese". I've had both the chicken and pork, and both times, the meat was very dry. It was not very tasty. My favorite part of the sandwich was the vegetables and it shouldn't be that way. The meat should stand out more than the veggies, I think. However, I do need to give them props on their rolls. These rolls are, as most people described, crunchy on the outside and chewy in the middle. Perfect! I will probably come back here again, but not to order their "Vietnamese" sandwich. read more

Do you like warm bread that you can actually bite through, that won't grate the root of your mouth? Do you like the taste of potent garlic? Do you like hot, melted cheese? I can't see how you wouldn't like this place. You can opt for garlic or ranch sauce when ordering a sandwich, but I personally believe that ranch sauce should stay on salads for the most part. The sandwiches come in 5" or 9", and you can get meal combos that come with chips and a soda. They give you sriracha sauce too. Prices are decent. Try to have cash on you; I believe they add a surcharge if you use a debit or credit card for orders under $6 or something close to that amount. My favorites (all with garlic sauce): Chicken, Broccoli, Mushroom Chicken Cordon Bleu Chicken and Artichoke Hearts Italian BLT Chicken Bacon Club Falafel and Veggies Chicken and Eggplant Parking can be difficult during lunch hours. There is a good amount of outdoor seating, since it's at the University Town Center. The menu is pretty extensive, and it's pretty cute-looking :) My only complaint with Le Dip is that sometimes my sandwiches take a really long time to come out (can be up to 20+ minutes on occasion). read more

WOW WOW WOW.. all I can say is WOW. le dip has really good sandwiches. I've tried their cordon bleu, swiss connection, garlic chicken, and broccoli, mushroom, chicken with garlic sauce! omg SOOO GOODD. I always eat their garlic sauce and I have a hard time trying to figure out how they make it. I've tried to replicate it at home with some mayo and garlic and added a little sour cream too but I can't get that same taste! Their garlic sauce just melts in your mouth and the garlic is not overpowering at all. Also, they use very good chicken breast meat that is just so soft and juicy and flavorful! It comes on a nice warm and toasty bread and o my gosh I wouldn't mind eating this every day! Overall the food was good, but the sandwiches should be a treat b/c they will raise your LDL levels....the combination of the garlic mayo sauce, cheese, and butter is deadly. We ordered various sandwiches, which included the garlic chicken, broccoli mushroom chicken, chicken cordon bleu, chicken eggplant, and chicken dijon. The bread was the best thing about the sandwich. It was crispy (not hard), light, and airy. The garlic sauce is good, but I think the sandwiches were overly sauced. The chicken for all the sandwich was cubed chicken breast, which was a little bit dry. All the sandwiches came with the same garlic sauce. This place would be a treat, but you definitely don't want to eat here everyday. I give this place a 3 1/2 stars so I will round it up to 4 stars. read more

boyfriend and i decided to take a quick bite here after my interview at irvine. literally... quick bite. we wanted to go to lee's, but found out they only take cash. so we ran over here and boy am i glad we did! boy came here for undergrad so he's had his share of experience here. i, on the other hand, just loved the thought of having a pressed sandwich on a baguette! I LOVE PANINIS. that being said... we ordered two different sandwiches and swapped :) i got the brie and avocado sandwich, and he got the garlic chicken. both were pressed and nicely packaged and not falling all over the place, which i love to see when i have a pressed sandwich. the brie and avocado sandwich was fresh, clean, and there were hearty portions of everything in there. it was a nice bite every time. the garlic chicken is delicious, but a bit overwhelming after a few bites. i mean... it was SO creamy and dense and rich that it sort of got to you. it's not a fancy place. it's quite ghetto. the only downside aside from the overwhelming sandwich, is that it's a bit pricey for how much they give in baguette portion size. remember.. baguettes are thing... so you're not getting as much as you would, say a $5 footlong at subway. thank goodness this ain't subway. that's the only reason i'd pay more ;) read more

Le Dip never fails me. The homemade bread is out of this world, the prices are still reasonable, and the service is excellent. It can get quite crowded around lunchtime so plan accordingly.
