Our son is studying art in college so we brought him to the top floor of the Pompidou for his 18th birthday. Or that was the plan at least. We thought it would be a great, celebratory night. But unfortunately, the service and treatment we received was deplorable. We had reservations for months, and noted that it was our son's birthday. We walked in and said our name. They were making fun of my husband's French last name and the way his Canadian family has pronounced it for centuries. They were laughing and pointing at us thinking we couldn't understand them. They shoved us in a corner where a piece of equipment was poking out of the wall and three people couldn't even sit comfortably. We weren't looking for a "view," we just wanted to be able to see each other over the dinner table and not get hit in the head with a piece of metal. There were many other empty tables. We balked at that and were ready to leave and they put us into a cramped table - making a two top into three by bringing a chair over. Only marginally better. We stayed only because we didn't want to go around town randomly on the night of my son's birthday seeking out another table. I will say our server was quite nice and we did enjoy the food, but it was nothing more special than other restaurants in town. Our tip: Go to Frenchie instead. They understand hospitality and their food is amazing and innovative. The odd thing is that the greeters act as if they're very fancy and you are so far beneath them to be thinking of dining there, but they're really quite backward in their attitude and attire. The women all had gobs of make up on like they were cast members of Jersey Shore. We were dressed quite appropriately, same as if we were dining in New York. Meanwhile other patrons were tacky - wearing berets and shirts that said "je t'aime paris!" etc. We've been to Paris many times, speak conversational French, and understand enough customs and how to behave that gets us by just fine everywhere else. But not here. My son had a terrible time on his 18th birthday. Unforgivable. On our way out, my husband asked the hostess if she had ever been to New York. She said, "oh I don't fly. I'm terrified." That sums it up. You're being harshly judged by people who can't even get on an airplane. Not what you'd call worldly. Save your dignity and avoid. The staff were all impeccably dressed and semi celebrating as they worked really hard to take care of the whole restaurant. There was also DJ music. But we lucked out with a very friendly server, who did break the ice. Yes, sitting on a bench with a stranger in a relatively empty restaurant was really weird. Some people chose to sit at the empty end of the restaurant for that reason. But luckily for us, our neighbors left much earlier than we did. I did enjoy the fact that we were not rushed out of our table, as I was waiting for the Eiffel Tower to light up and wanted to enjoy drinks, coffee, and dessert after dinner. Expect a stereotypical Parisian experience. Half the waiters are very kind and half are rude. My uncle lived in France half his life and only at this restaurant did a male waiter and female hostess pretend they don't understand him "huh" and switch to English. They also have an attitude. The other waiters were kind and generally quick, but at the end of the meal we wanted to order coffees but it took 20 minutes before someone took our order. Location tip: if you made reservations at Georges and can't figure out where it is, just look for the giant set of escalators and take it all the way up. You can also take the elevator to the 6th floor (there's security there) and then another elevator to the top. The views from Georges are gorgeous but I'll admit, I was very surprised at how dead the restaurant was at 9pm. When we showed up, I thought maybe they were closed and we'd come on the wrong day. On the positive side, we were able to get a seat with a great view of the Eiffel Tower. While the food was very good, it wasn't even close to the best meals I've had in Paris. Some of the dishes were "trying a little too hard" but I still appreciated the effort. The smoked salmon/stuffed avocado (see pic), for example, was a great idea. They cut an avocado in half and stuffed it with salmon roe (which sounded amazing) but the dish was dying for texture and citrus. However, the tarama (google it) served with lemon and the little pancakes was SO SO SO good! I had no ideas pancakes would go so well with a fish-based dip! We had a hamachi dish and a few others that were also very good. I highly recommend the 2016 Chateau La Nerthe, Chateauneuf de Papa for a beautiful red wine! read more

Rooftop restaurant/bar with detailed service! Need I say anything else? After searching for an entrance around the Center Pompidou we finally found our entrance in the back with a private elevator up to the 5th or 6th floor then another elevator up to the top! Not to mention Georges is located at the top of a very, very well know museum which I truly do regret not having a chance to glance at. So Im not sure what the reservations protocol is for smaller parties is but having booked for 8 there was a 320 Euro cancellation fee if canceled in short notice. Which I totally get cause this place did get packed. FYI : dining in a rooftop of a massive museum does come with a cost and I don't only mean financial. HEAVY WIND so dress warm no heaters! Also beware, we broke cups and so did MANY OTHERS. You're literally asked/told to put your wine cups sideways if empty with cups overlapped two or three at a time just so they don't slide off from the high winds. While everyone's trying to fix their hair while being seated you just can't fathom what is going on, you have the view of Notre dame and the Eiffel Tower just doesn't get any better! We started with an affordable wine from their BIO selection after being seated. With a few cheers we were all ready to order. The waiters/waitresses took very good care of us. We had guests with food restrictions and our waitress took her time to explain what is best for them. For starters Fresh basil and heirloom tomatoes with a balsamic reduction, eggplant with burrata and the famous 6 snails slathered in herbs and garlic. Still dreaming about those tomatoes! But all in all great starters! Next was my filet with the option of one sauce or half n half. You know I went with the half and half option;au poivre and Béarnaise. Ordered medium, it was everything I expected. Good steak, cooked well, but I must say my steak was closer to rare, but complaining it's filet!! Now on the other side of my plate was mashed potatoes. There's one thing I won't forget is their mashed potatoes, holy moly. Good stuff. Buttery goodness. Dinner for 8 people with a bottle of wine and some cocktails, rooftop with all the fun to come total cost : 550 euro. 2 hours spent well. Just a reminder there is no tipping option anywhere. We decided to come here because it was highly recommended by friends. I had a feeling it wouldn't be good and I was unfortunately right. Reservations were easy to make but due to construction, the place was a bit hard to find. We were seated at a table with a so-so view of the Eiffel Tower. The service was also only so so as we had a really hard time flagging staff down for service. They basically came by only to drop off the plates and that was it. The food itself was less than mediocre and severely over priced. The escargot was okay but nothing special. The salmon appetizer was the best dish we had that night, but it is raw salmon in a little bit if sauce. The main course - I got just a simple pasta because I wasn't that hungry and nothing on the menu looked really good. The pasta was one but tasted like canned pasta because of the sauce. The sea bass my friends got had zero flavor. We paid quite a bit of money if this meal and it wasn't good at all. Maybe at one point this place served good food but now it's just a tourist trap. The place is atop Centre Pompidou. Take note of this because when went here for dinner finding the entrance to the place was a challenge. We had to go around a couple of times and ended up calling the reception so we can find the dimly lit entrance. The venue has a modern aesthetic to it. And view on a clear night was stunning. Unfortunately that's where the highlights end. The food, apart from the sardinillas, were forgettable. The cocktails were too. The young waitstaff were focused more on how they look rather than actually checking on their customers. And they had the audacity to ask for a tip when asked for the bill. I ordered the chicken, which came with curry sauce and chutney, and it was very good. The chicken was juicy, and the sash were delicious. At first, this place was a little off...too brightly lit, too cold, a little hurried with wanting us to order quickly. Did not stick to any dress code...other diners were wearing sneakers, sweatshirts, torn jeans. Things definitely got better. After nearly 2 hours of modern art, we decided we needed a break and went upstairs to the top of the museum for our restaurant reservations. The French know how to serve you right. I asked for a rum and coke light, and I get a nice glass bottle of soda, rum in a tall glass, and mini tin bucket filled with ice, and a spoon. Fantastic! The service was excellent - our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful with navigating the menu for someone with Celiac Disease. In fact, it was the most comprehensive allergen menu at any of the places we dined at. The ambience was very nice as we ate outside overlooking Paris. Our waiter even went above and beyond with recommendations about area patisseries and boulangeries (for those in our party without Celiac's) and some must see sites on our very limited time in Paris. E have done here before a few years back now. It was a memorable experience. Unfortunately, our dining experience this time was sub optimal. First, the seats were not clean with crumbs and food all over, the rose vase was chipped, the salt and pepper shaker was foul and rusted, the table setting was run down glass tops chipped and rusted bases. When we called the manager over to show her these details her response was less than satisfactory. She said the reason for this situation was that restaurant was closing in September. So that should explain everything. In addition, there was grafitti in the men's bathroom and the woman's bathroom was foul. I told my husband if the kitchen was as run down, we definitely stayed away from the Tartar. Not what one expects from dining in an alleged higher end restaurant. Today's experience was the exact opposite we had here 2 years ago. We would not recommend this restaurant. After pointing this out, the salt and pepper shakers plus the vase were exchanged. If you still are set on seeing the view (that is just as magnificent from the Pompidou terrace on the same floor, know that service will go out of their way to make the experience uncomfortable and degrading. I went with my wife on a Thursday evening at 7PM for dinner to give it a try. Positive: location is great with instagramable decor. Food is well thought out and prepared as each dish contains complex flavors that makes the meal very enjoyable. Areas of improvement: although the staff was attentive and friendly, they got all my orders wrong. I ordered two tasting menu (125 euros) and even discussed the choice of entrees with the server, yet I was brought the flavor menu (95 euros) which to be honest, I didn't noticed until the bill came. Although still enjoyable, I would have like to gotten what I wanted. I also ordered octopus in addition but the food never came out. To the staff's credit, they send us extra dessert to compensate but again, I'd expect restaurants of this caliper to get orders correctly. read more

Unfortunately, a total sham for my upcoming reservation, I am now left without a place for dinner on a busy holiday. A very long time ago we made reservations for dinner on Bastille Day during the fireworks, as this place has a good view of the Eiffel Tower. Just now, merely two weeks before my reservation date I was sent an email that they CANCELED my reservation and now have a €200 per person dinner that if I would like to participate in I can try and make a new reservation. They did not even reach out to me before canceling my reservation to see if this was OK, or if we were willing to do it. The simple fact is they canceled my reservation before even asking. Now less than two weeks before Bastille day, I am doubtful I will be able to find a reservation anywhere else. When I made the reservation at this restaurant, I had lots of places to choose from and should have chosen anywhere else! Completely unprofessional and ridiculous, they should have honored existing reservations or at the very least contacted us to let us know the menu was different that night before flat out canceling us. This ultra-modern and trendy restaurant on the 6th floor of Pompidou Centre(my fave post-modern architecture designed by Renzo Piano!!) is a great place to have a memorable lunch where you can enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of Paris and fun and whimsical avant-garde decor. Anyone who loves modern art will particularly appreciate the eye-catching silver blobs made of aluminum panels that form organic dining spaces. I love how the interiors of these igloo-like spaces are painted in bright colors, just brilliant!!! I would love to redesign my home like this! Dining here is truly an art experience..... totally priceless!!! All the waiters and waitresses are tall and beautiful (do you have to be a model to work here??) but unfortunately on the snobbish side. The food here is pricey(we spent about 60 euros per person for LUNCH, which was equivalent to almost 90 bucks back then), and the portion size is tiny. My boyfriend booked an 8pm dinner for us in Paris. We were running late and were worried that we might lose our reservation, but he called and they were nice about it. The restaurant is at top of a museum, and the entrance up is extremely hot. However, once you get to the top, the view of the city is amazing! I recommend booking a late evening to get a catch of the sunset and night at the same time. To start, we got the Avocado with Alaskan King Crab and the Quinoa Salad. Both were delicious. For entrees, I got the chicken breast with curry and my BF got the salmon. Both were served with really good steamed rice. We got a bottle of Pinot for $50, and a bottle of still water for $8. In total, our dinner came out to be about $200. It is very pricey, but the views, service, and overall aesthetics of the restaurant (not to mention a live DJ) are to die for. read more
