I was walking down Hollywood Blvd at 8:15pm and happened to need a last-minute birthday cake. Le Gout was open. I thought "well, what the hell." I was impressed. The chocolate cake was fresh; the frosting smooth and creamy. Best of all, it wasn't a total sugar bomb, as seems to be the habit of most local cake bakers. The young lady behind the counter even put a personalized happy birthday message on the cake. I can't speak for anything else on the menu. Let me just start by saying that the fruit tarts , cookies and baklava we had were pretty amazing. But not good enough to put up with the bad service we received from the cashier with reddish hair . Our kids were pretty excited about the Christmas candy that was displayed .so they grabbed 3 candy canes and 2 kinder eggs .i paid for them immediately. Then she goes oh did you pay for that put it back where it belongs ! Um what ? Of course we paid for it . She ended up double charging my friend for the kinder eggs all because she didn't believe we had indeed paid . Despite me having a receipt as proof . Stopped by here the other day for a croissant and coffee. It was very mediocre. Tried the almond croissant- it was okay - not very flavorful, not buttery, no rich filling that I prefer. I walk by this place all the time, and always meant to check it out, but never had. I finally stopped in today on my way back from a hike at Griffith Park and it lived up to expectations! First, you're struck by the sheer selection - several types of croissants, cinnamon buns, at least twenty kinds of cookies, five or more varieties of baklava, and a bunch of little cakes and tarts. The woman working - Paulinna - was very helpful, happy to tell me what all the little cookies were and what the fillings of various pastries were. I walked from display case to display case, pointing at things and she'd tell me what it was (a lot of things aren't labeled because their names vary, regionally). They were playing Armenian music videos that added to the vibe. There are small self-serve refrigerators with drinks and cakes to-go. They have a menu displaying the non-bakery items, such as crepes, sandwiches, and homemade hummus (which I'm definitely trying next time!) that you can order. Again, the selection here is amazing. Prices are great, too. I got a croissant, two types of baklava, three cookies, mushabak, shaabiyat, and a coffee, all for $7. The coffee and croissant, alone, would be $6 anywhere else, so this place has great bang for your buck. Plus, they have a loyalty program where you can earn free coffee, pastries, and so on. They have the best croissants in LA! Seriously so fresh and flaky. I've tried so many other well known bakeries across the city but these are the best. Thier macarons are just as good if not better than Laduree's flown in from Paris. The macaron's at Le Gout are made in house and have a crisp but not too crisp meringue with a flavorful moist ganache and come in a variety of flavors. Unlike the macarons at Laduree they are very inexpensive and look just as pretty in the box. The only thing I have noticed is that these fresh macarons have a short shelf life and after 2-3 days then tend to taste dried out. A box of these would a wonderful gift to give or receive. read more

That's ENOUGH !!! I threw away that Disgusting cake again from La gout ! Don't recommend anyone. I had bad experiences with them before, however the ladies at a counter told me when the cake is old and taste bad bring it back. So I decided to give the business one more chance. We had a birthday party and bought cake a night before to make surprise next morning.The cake was so disgusting that I wasn't be able even swallow a bite. I thought it was just me who didn't like it, but when I saw all the guests spit out after the first bite, I realized that cake was really horrible because there were used spoiled fruits and other ingredients that gives the cake a nasty taste. Next day I brought the cake to the shop and was very surprised when I asked the owner to try a piece. He forced himself to swallow that nasty cake, although his whole face was twisted by the nasty taste of that cake just because the owner didn't want to refund money back for their horrible product. The owner is a big liar! Please don't tell your customers to bring back product for check. You would swallow the worst cake anyways. And you would say that it tastes good only to avoid refunding money back. This business lost not only us as customers but all our guests, and each of us will spread word mouth to mouth about the horrible and disgusting taste of cakes and how that bakery fools people by selling them spoiled pastries. read more

I was around the area looking for cupcakes, specifically cupcakes. This location popped up and so I got off the bus and walked a few blocks to get to this place given that the pictures of their selection was exactly what I was looking for. Once I stepped in to the cafe, I was greeted and asked to take my time looking around and to come back when I needed assistance. There were two women behind the register working on what appeared to be POS training. I very much know the customer service area too well since my job focuses on that specific area. The experience of the customer. So far so good while I was here. After looking at all the yummy stuff they had, the woman that greeted me asked if I was ready. Indeed I was. She gave me the prices of all the bakery items only that her tone had changed. I felt rushed to decide, I felt like asking about the bakery items was trouble some. I looked for signs on the trays to possibly know what each item was and what the flavors were but there were none that were visible. When asking the woman about two items she had the worst approach. There was attitude now. I settled for eclair bars. I asked if I could have the bars I was going to purchase be placed in a box since they were gifts for three different people that were celebrating. The woman behind the counter said that usually those are sold in bags. That she could put them in a box for me all together. I mentioned that they were for three different people and I needed them to be separate boxes. She looked bothered and said that she can put them in a box individually but that that was going to cost the bakery money because of their retail price themselves. I still in good spirit said I understood and that i would pay extra. She mentioned again the cost of the box. And so that itself changed my mind to settle for these tiny cupcakes that I had seen. I asked her if those were packaged in a box and she said that they were. The unfortunate thing is that the cupcakes were less that the eclair bar and instead of spending double digit money amount on the bars I was now spending a single digit cost on the cupcakes. Yay for me as a customer but for a business person like her, not so much. It didn't make sense but at the same time I understood that perhaps these were their rules of packaging their bakery items. I looked around and found candles and I grabbed a drink from their cooler, I was set to check out. When approaching the register it went downhill. The woman training who appeared to be a new employee, had the worst attitude. She was now using the tone of voice that she used on me on to her employee. There was even more attitude when scanning through, my other items. She proceeded to ask if I wanted a paper bag or a plastic bag for my three boxes and I answered that paper bags was good for me. As she placed the box of cupcakes in each bag her body language and spirit were at the worst of this whole transaction. I thanked them both, placed my items in my bag and walked out. I love self standing bakeries. I love dessert and sweets. I love to support shops within my community rather than these giant chain places of food service. I left disappointed in this place.
