Came back for my brothers birthday and was served by the same waiter I wish I got his name because he's the best!! Ordered a few appetizers the best being the sliders!! Obviously you can't come here without ordering a steak. I love the medallions but the grass fed ribeye is a classic. Especially with the side of carrots. Omg the best meal. Also love coming for their lunch special-- the steak sandwich is really worth the price and that just is finger licking good. Could actually lick the plate clean if it were acceptable hahahah Love the ambiance of this place, feels like an old school steakhouse that's been around for years. Would never, ever, think of going to a steakhouse, but our grandson was visiting from a Massachusetts suburb where there's no kosher meat to be had, and this teenager loves a good kosher steak. Sometimes his dad will cook it for him, but that's not a New York City restaurant experience! So, on the recommendation from someone we trust, off we went. My husband is pescatarian so there was one, count 'em, one item on the menu for him, the salmon. Much to his pleasant surprise, it was very good! It came with green beans. I profess to be pescatarian, and I never much loved steak, but they have a spicy lamb merguez sausage and I took a chance, not having had that for at least 20 years. It was just the right level of spicy, 2 sausages on the plate with a lovely couscous whose sweet raisins nicely complemented the spicy meat, and some frisée. The guest of honor ordered the ribeye steak which came with fries. He demolished both! Happy camper! We decided to have dessert there. I thought my decaf cappuccino was meh, but I should've realized it'd be non-dairy, and I didn't think to ask what kind of non-milk they used. No biggie, though. I gotta say.... I haven't been at Le Marais for more than 20 years. Seriously. And the eye rolling thought of 'Koser steak' was just a gantlet to be traversed as the cost of great company with friends. Wrong. Six of us at dinner this week, three men all ordered the steak Au Poivre, all winners. One had medium, I had medium rare, and another had rare-- like the three bears, with their three Goldilox ( dare I say)... The medium rare was super, I demolished it. Looked over at a burger on one of the spouse's plate as it gradually but definitively disappeared. And a two scoop- dessert of vanilla and pecan ice cream. A fine meal, recommended.... read more

When my guest suggested Le Marais for a Glatt Kosher meal, at first I hesitated. It's wasn't very good the last time I was when I was a junior banker at Fleet, up the block. Much has changed or I have changed. Whichever the case, La Marais delivered. Kosher meat first restaurants tend to be outrageously expensive. Le Marais was just expensive. I ordered the prime for two, some sort of salad to start, beef jerky (not of the variety that they sell at gas station convenience stores) and some other stuff. Everything was excellent. This visit I had two: steak poivre for dinner, and steak and eggs for their amazingly inexpensive $40 brunch: soup or salad, entree (many choices), crusty bread with olive oil, and muffin/pastry bowl with jam and honey. I've been wanting to go to this place for some time, but couldn't score a reservation. So, I was beyond thrilled when I was able to land a spot for an early dinner after a show. The ambiance is neat, with a meat counter as you walk in showcasing several tempting cuts. We sat at the small bar for a bit and enjoyed a decent Manhattan. The dining room is a bit odd - large and without much charm. It may have just been bad luck, but it was also packed with noisy (poorly behaved) children. Arrive was slow and largely inattentive. If you need something you will need to flag down a waiter. The bread basket was good with slices of chewy, soft baguette (more akin to ciabatta) served with olive oil. We ordered steak tartar and thought the steak was good and well seasoned. Oddly, it came with a small pile of raw onion on top and no egg, which reminded us of cannibal sandwiches. The fries were hot, crunchy and well seasoned. A substantial salad with a tangy vinaigrette rounded out the plate. Initially, our order came out wrong and the runner tried to drop one dish on the table while the kitchen prepared the second, which we had to strenuously refuse. A glass of wine ordered before we received our entrees appeared near the end of the meal. We shared a somewhat disappointing peanut mousse concoction that just didn't have any oomph. So, all in all, much more of a miss than a hit. read more

Best Value in NYC - or anywhere Food was perfect with larger portions and smaller cost than expected. 5 star service from the greeter when we arrived to the finest waiters (each time i go) i have ever had. everyone was personally very pleasant. when my 13 year old grandson ordered his steak well done the waiter said (to me) he would bring it medium to medium rare instead. Behold my grandson loved the steak that way and now always orders medium rare. We are from out of town and my 3 grandchildren who have eaten there always want to go back. I have been there 5 times and everything I said above applies to each visit. They are absolutely consistently great. I would not go to any other steakhouse in NYC. I had a mojito, and was delighted that they had fresh mint, as it wasn't on their menu of offerings. Dessert was a lovely frothy cappuccino & the molten chocolate cake and ice cream-the best dairy-free dessert I've had in the decade I've been dairy-free. I dined with a vegan and a person who was gluten-free and they accommodated all of us. Our waiter, John, was witty and attentive. He sang to the table next to us, which was delightful. After experiencing this place in action, I'd come here on my birthday too! Ambiance worked for us-we had a quiet corner booth table in the back, but the place was also popular and felt festive. There were two other simchas at tables next to us. I liked how it felt haimish in the Big Apple. I've been to fancier & more expensive kosher NYC steakhouses, but prefer this place for the intimacy/feel. I'll definitely be back! As for downsides, I didn't love that there was only one one-person bathroom and it was unisex. But it is NYC and I only had to visit once...so very forgettable complaint all 'n all. Went this evening and honestly, I am really surprised why it's only a 3.2 on yelp. The Food was really tasty and made with care. The staff was very accommodating and was always there for refills and checked throughout the meal to make sure everything was going smoothly. Plus the ambiance had a nice family style but also rustic vibe that lifted the atmosphere. For kosher food, the price was reasonable and the taste definitely lifted my expectations. Being the worst Jew around, I tend to avoid kosher restaurants, but for a midtown French place, this restaurant is actually surprisingly good (compared with other kosher places). But if you're not restricted to keeping kosher, I would say to not come here just because being surrounded by a ton of Orthodox people may be awkward for ya. Tuna appetizer - it's three pieces on top of veggies. It wasn't very tender, but it is the healthiest appetizer they offer. Salmon entree - I loved this entree. The salmon was delicious and the ratatouille it comes with was super tasty. If you're not into getting steak, this is a smart substitute. Tuna salad - huge salad. But it's mainly lettuce. There's a big chunk of grilled tuna, and my friend didn't like it, but I loved every bite. My friend had actually ordered the chicken salad and they brought out the tuna salad accidentally. The service was sweet, but they seemed stretched way too thin, even on a chill night at a late time. Maybe hire some more people? Anyway, it was a solid, healthy dinner, and I'm so glad I'm now aware of an actually good kosher restaurant in the city. read more

We went last week, ordered Prime Rib at $75 per plate and were served rib eye. They ARE different and not nearly as good. The carrots and salad were good. Service was fine. It's a steak restaurant that doesn't know steak. wtf? My date said, "It was the most flavorless wrong cut of steak I've ever had. I could have prepared it better than that!" And it was TRULY flavorless. I kept adding salt but you couldn't even taste it. There's so many better steak places in the city, surprised this one is still open based on this experience. My wicked and sinful Chocolate Mousse dependency began a long time ago way before I found out about this place. Since then, I've been a total mess for top-quality Chocolate Mousse. And Marais' Mousse is the bomb! Asked her about any mocktails and recommended an iced 'Raspberry Zinger' topped with Blueberries. Le Marais has been my on-again, off-again fix and my very own lustification. Their dessert menu is notoriously great all around. In the past, I'd come here just for their Chocolate Mousse. But I was a bit hungry this time and settled on the Rare Chili-Crusted Tuna Appetizer that was substantial and tasty. Service was polite and Lia(?), was a doll during my short afternoon stay. It would be senseless to just mention their pride and joy (steak) and not mention their Desserts and rich Chocolate Mousse. But I'm so sure Marais is doing something damn right with their French-Kosher menu if they've been around this long. What I can sincerely tell you is- Marais is nothing short of classiness and pulls out all the stops with their Mousse (and I'm sure everything else). Prices aren't outrageous for this type of place and the thing to order is everything- if that's how you wanna go. There is a reason Le Marais has been around for all these years. It is a classic. Food is freshly prepared, steaks are high quality. Service is very attentive as well. Tonight we started with some apps: beef jerky, sesame crusted tuna, then I tried the lamb shank. It was soft, flavorful and served with a savory sauce, vegetables, and celery root puree. My sister had the chicken paillard salad which she enjoyed. The others had prime rib (delicious), steak/frites/salad (their classic), and the frisee salad with duck confit. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. Highlights: Bread and olive oil: both so good, olive oil seemed to be really high quality. Chocolate cake and ice cream: amazing lava cake, warm melted Center, berries that came with it were very fresh. Duck frisée salad: best part about the salad was the duck itself. The dressing (kinda tasted like balsamic vinaigrette) was overpowering and not needed for something that already has so much flavor. Sliders: bread and the pickle that came with this was the best part. The meat was alright. Cote de beouf for two: I didn't really find this amazing, and for a steakhouse that's known for its meat, I thought it was a bit disappointing that the best parts of our meal had to do with the bread and dessert. Cocktails: i'd stay away. Really not shaken at all, and the French 75 was on their cocktail list. I'd stick with neat alcohol or wine. Service was very friendly and timely. Cute old school nyc vibes.
