This is easily in the top five dishes I've ever had. I ordered the Boeuf en Croute and it was magnificent. The meat was incredibly tender and cooked perfectly and the crust was light, and delicious. Finally tried this restaurant after passing by a million times and what a pleasant treat. Have to admit it's a totally unexpected establishment for the downtown area. My friend and I had dinner here. Wasn't sure where we should go, but other reviews on this place sealed the deal. Lenna was our server, and we started with frog legs and a cheese plate. The mussels were excellent as was the Guinea hen, and we even splurged for dessert. The creme brûlée was AMAZING!!! As was the berry dessert. The veggies that came with the hen were cooked to perfection. The pears, again, amazing. Lenna was excellent and personable. I am pretty much a real foodie. And, in Albuquerque there are not a lot of fine dining restaurants that are consistently good. But, La Troquent is one of the few that my wife and I count on for a consistently great dining experience. From the excellent appetizers (share the mussels, or escargot, or, when on the menu, the fried oysters) to the great entrees to the yummy deserts, you won't be disappointed. Le Troquet was perfect from the moment we walked in. The staff is attentive-but not over the top-just enough to make you feel like you're some place special. The food tastes wonderful and looks beautiful. For vegetarians (me), they are flexible and helpful. I had a dinner salad and a beautiful cheese platter with crostini. There were several other vegetarian options, even one they came up with on-the-spot, but I went with something lighter. Ron had the herring appetizer and duck for his main meal which got 2 thumbs up. I dined here for the first time last week after a tip from one of La Troquet's regular customers. It lived up to the hype! The ambience is wonderful: small and cozy and what one would envision of a classic French bistro. Its location includes plentiful on-street parking, a plus when going downtown to dine. The service was exceptional. John, the primary server, was attentive and helpful in explaining menu items. He's full of energy and adds a touch of fun to the overall experience. He didn't hesitate to work with the kitchen to accommodate dietary requests, including producing a vegetarian entree that wasn't on the menu. I enjoyed a simple salad as my starter. Fresh greens with a light vinaigrette. It was a nice way to bring the taste buds to life before the entree which was the steak frites. It was one of the best prepared steaks I've had in Albuquerque (only Jennifer James' ribeye surpasses this one), cooked exactly as ordered and served with a delicious sauce that was the perfect accompaniment (in other words it complemented the steak rather than drowned it out). The frites were delicious--crisp and not greasy. I finished with a pear clafoutis, a rare find in Albuquerque. The custard texture was dead on and it was true to the European style of desserts and pastries--just sweet enough to feel like a dessert but not too sweet or overly rich. Finally, this place is a bargain! If you want a reasonably priced wine, you can find one here. The steak frites was only $16. Remember that before you even contemplate going to a steakhouse chain. This is one of Albuquerque's locally-owned and operated gems. Check it out! read more

My wife said the smoked salmon and trout appetizer were the best she'd ever had, which amazed me because she doesn't ordinarily like salmon. There were four of us and we each ordered a different entre, all were delivered hot and delicious by the chef himself. All dishes were wonderful as we passed tastes back and forth The wait staff were busy with a full restaurant, but competely attentive and smiling. It's a small place with beautiful ambiance and decor. Reservations would be wise. We were full after the meal, but couldn't resist the dessert selection; so, three different deserts were split 4 ways and each was wonderful. An amazing meal, really. I couldn't think of a single thing to.fault. During the meal, Cyndi Lauper came in with a group and no one in the restaurant even looked twice. Evidently, the movie and entertainment crowd have found this gem as well. What a surprise to find something this nice in the heart of downtown. First time here. Very small restaurant only ten tables, but very quaint and charming. Staff was very friendly and Chef Shane Parker cooked us a delicious dinner. Had appetizers of frog legs and onion soup which both tasted delicious. Dinner was the duck breast which was absolutely divine! My husband had the lamb lollipops which were tasty as well. I was a tad disappointed with the veg and starch sides. I was just expecting there to be a little more to them. Le Troquet is a small gem in downtown. The food and service are first class. Our server's wine recommendations were spot on. The prices are very reasonable. Four of us had dinner Saturday evening, each of us ordered a different entree (mussels, pork osso bucco, lamb rack, and duck), and each of us said we would order the same food again. The only off-note was an old guy in the corner playing a guitar and singing. One Yelp reviewer thought he was too loud for the small space. Volume was not the problem - his guitar playing was fine. The problem is he cannot sing. He is off key. I thought I was in the middle of a Saturday NIght Live skit. Sorry to be so critical of a senior citizen who likes to sing, but Le Troquet should tell him to put a cork in it. This place is worth 5 stars - Mr. "I like to sing" brought it down to 4 stars. read more

My wife and I ate at Le Troquet on a Saturday evening, 9 May 2015, shortly after the restaurant had begun operation and were exceedingly impressed. Both the food and the service were outstanding. And the ambiance was exactly what we have experienced in Paris. In every way except location, this is a real French Bistro. It is a little pricey, but well worth it. We returned a couple of weeks later. The food and service were still outstanding. But the amplified live music was so loud that we could not talk and all members of our party developed headaches. Live music, particularly with electric amplification, is not appropriate for a small restaurant. We will not be going to Le Troquet on any nights where live music is provided, and I am very, very disappointed to have to miss out on what would be an otherwise outstanding experience. I am cutting my rating to three stars. Without music, it would easily be five stars. read more

Wow are we glad we tried this place! We had a wonderful meal with a good friend who was in town. When you walk in to this lovely cafe, you feel like you are in Paris. The food was fabulous. Everyone loved their dishes, my steak coated with mushrooms and pate then baked in puff pastry stole the show! It was divine. The macaron desert is to die for. Our server was wonderful, friendly and knowledgable (she was the chef's wife). Such a gem. We will definitely be back. So glad to have found this place and I genuinely hope this place survives in a tough food market that is ABQ where people don't appreciate good food like this. To the people who complain about slow service - we were here in a Friday night, every table was full and we did not feel the wait for food to be long. This is not fast food that is prepared in advance. Go to Applebee's if you want you crappy food brought out in 5 minutes! Yes, it's a bit tight on space but it adds to the charm that is overflowing in this place and the town desperately needs good restaurants, so chillax! read more

I was staying at the Andaluz Hotel while making a film here for three months. I LOVED going to this restaurant many times.
