This is in my hood, so I've been here several times! Some of my favorite dishes are the kale and cabbage salad (I always add chicken or shrimp for protein), tomato bisque, rigatoni pasta (I love anything with vodka sauce), and tartufo pizza (mushrooms and black truffle sauce!). I've come here for brunch with my husband and son before too! Everything was delicious and it was family friendly. I have been here many times for brunch and just recently, decided to order from them via GrubHub. Dining in: Their chicken & waffles is absolutely delicious and I highly recommend!! The chicken is lightly battered and crispy. I've tried their cheese plate, pizza, eggs Benedict, and numerous other items. All have been very good. This place is a tad pricey but grateful that there is a good spot to go to since moving to the area recently. GrubHub order: since I am absolutely obsessed with their chicken and waffles, I was very anxious to try their jumbo wings. I ordered the jumbo wings and the tomato bisque soup. The soup was pretty decent, nothing outstanding but I was severely disappointed with the wings. First off, paying $14 for 8 "jumbo wings" you would think you would be getting larger than normal wings. Nope! These were by far the most disappointing wings I've had in a while. Honestly, wing stop wings are better than these. They came swimming in buffalo sauce. They were not the best quality and certainly nowhere near as good as the fried chicken. Delicious food and friendly staff! I have gone here many times for dinner and most recently for brunch and I been consistently pleased by the service and meals. I highly recommend the roasted cauliflower and tussle sprouts - DELICIOUS!! I wanted to update the review to emphasize how great the customer service is here! This is NOT a sports bar but they have many large tvs. I went in yesterday and asked to sit near tv so we could watch game 3 of the NBA finals. They sat us in back and I asked if they can turn on the sound for the game. They were trying to figure out how to turn up the volume and realized the only way to do so was to turn the music down and play the sound of the game throughout the entire restaurant. They told us they weren't able to do that because there were other costumers. We understood and were content to watch the game in silence. Less than 5 minutes later the music was off and the sound of the game was coming through the speakers. The manager decided that because the place was not crowded they would be able to accommodate my request. We stopped in for dinner and the presentation of their food is amazing the taste not so much. Had the brick oven pizza and it was like mush - never had mushy pizza. Ordered prosciutto with cheese and instead received Krakus ham - told the waiter my pizza was so bad couldn't even lift it off plate he was kind enough to bring a new one - that one wasn't any better. We made brunch reservations for 2 pm. We arrived at 2 pm on the dot. There was s huge line of other patrons with 2 pm reservations. No one was being seated. The seated patrons who had reservations at 1 pm still hadn't received their food. Management had no response and the hostess said "it's not my fault" she said the kitchen was to blame. We asked why she hadn't called us so we could have changed plans. Again, it wasn't "her fault." Thank god for open table and a fabulous brunch elsewhere. Came here for Valentines Day with my boyfriend and it was such a pleasant experience. The staff was attentive, food was amazing, and the atmosphere definitely reflected a romantic night for couples. We began our first course with Tomato Bisque and Fried Calamari along with some bread and olive oil. It was rich in flavor and definitely kept us busy while our food was being prepared. I was having such a great time that it felt like my food was coming out pretty quick! We then both ordered the Penne Vodka with Shrimp and wow, that must some of the best shrimp I've ever had in my life. Clean, well cooked, and full of flavor. The portion of pasta was huge! Always a good thing to have left overs, IMO. Champagne was light and smooth. We then got our dessert which was a heart shaped mini chocolate cake with a strawberry and powdered sugar. After eating so much we were pretty full and weren't able to finish the cake but it was a sweet way to end our dinner. Overall, I definitely recommend this place for any couple or families looking to spend time together. I know I will be coming back to try other menu items. Ordered the kale and quinoa Cobb - it had no kale, lots of wilted romaine, and a sprinkle of quinoa. Flavorless dressing as well. We also ordered the grilled octopus. This was the first time we ever tried this place. Never went when it was Suparossa but we were inspired by the new decor. What a disappointment. Took 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order and about 25 minutes before anyone took our dinner order. My 3 kids were never offered a kids menu and therefore had to order off the main menu. The food, including the pizza, was all so bland. The deconstructed Cesar salad was out-right gross! A wedge of romaine lettuce with mayonnaise slathered on top. My kids (8, 10 & 12) said they did not want to go back because the food was not good. My husband and I agree. It was uninspired, flavorless food. Really a shame. On top of this, there is classic rock music playing loudly. I love classic rock music...but it's confusing to the decor and ambiance. It's like walking into someone's multiple personality disorder. We have been to Legno three times, twice for dinner, once for drinks late night. What a nice change and addition to our neighborhood! Suparossa was one of our favorite restaurants in the area when we moved in 27 years ago (after Nancy's!). Even while they were reworking the menu,putting more American dishes,etc., it was still a really nice restaurant to go. The food has always been good, the take out has always been good. The personnel were always friendly. Now the decor has been updated and the menu more streamlined to a pure Italian taste. Excellent dishes so far. I have read some of the previous reviews. While comparing them to our experience, it is confusing and does not even sound like the same restaurant as far as the dishes were concerned on some of the more critical reviews. Sam C, the owner, is a very hands on guy. Kim O is a very attentive manager. I would ask those that have had a questionable experience, to address it with them directly. They won't bite your head off if you discuss your issues with courtesy & respect. I know they would appreciate the feedback and also the opportunity to prove themselves to you! Everyone has their moments. I suspect if investigated further, there is probably only one source of these issues and can be corrected. I know we will be going back, sooner than later! 1 star for half-price wine night. Minus 2 stars for everything we ordered being not good or bad, and minus another 2 stars for getting violently ill about 3 hours later. The brick chicken vesuvio did not see freshly cooked , though we were told it was going to take a while to cook.I thought the chicken was "under the brick" to give the skin a sear and to flatten in a little.. This was an oregano bomb that was gray and not tender. The beef carpaccio had no discernible mushrooms (listed .....better without), but did have what seemed like some kind of brown smear alongside the meat , buried under the cover of extra arugula. The grilled octopus could not be chewed. The now closed Bar Toma used to cook or marinade or do something to the octopus to make it tender before a flash-grilling. The pizza was not inspired, and it was not good. The menu items seemed like a lot to choose from , the bread was good. I asked for a pepper grinder, which you would think even a faux Italian place would have, but only was brought a shaker. Other menu items are probably fine but noone should get sick from your food .Can't go back to reevaluate. Sorry. read more

My family and I religiously went to Legno's previous incarnation as Suparossa and we still order pizza from their take out business. The updated restaurant is still fantastic. I think they've made a lot of changes since they first opened to the menu which should not be missed. They also have happy hour specials and daily specials from half price appetizers to half price Neapolitan style pizzas. We also attended a party celebration there where the food and service were also great. The standouts at my last dining experience were the meatballs, croquettes, burrata and any of their pizzas. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. The live music on Friday and Saturday nights is also a nice touch! read more

$19 for the Seafood Pasta was wayyyyyy too pricey for frozen calamari rings and frozen shrimp. So not worth the price. Maggianos doesn't even charge that much for some of their Pastas that are way better. We chose this place cause it's close to the house and it was crappy outside. The server didn't even check on us but once, I asked other servers for salt and pepper and some to go boxes. The water glasses also tasted like food, like they have some cheap soap they use and the grease from the other dishes didn't wash off. I will Probably NOT try any more seafood dishes. There's gonna be a lot of "wow" in this review. Be warned. Food was amazing. My boyfriend and I kept saying "oh wow" with every bite we took from every dish we ordered. To be honest at the beginning I was a bit cranky waiting too long for the appetizers (over 30 mins) it was very slow service for some reason on a Saturday night and they weren't even busy. We ordered grilled squid and fries for appetizers and oh wow the squid was soft and tender, the seasoning was delicious! Fries was cripsy and the bell pepper aioli sauce that came with it was wow. I normally dont go for seasfood, they always taste so bland to me but this squid was amazing. Also portion was big for an appetizer, im not complaining! Entree was even bigger! Boyfriend had fish (fresh catch of the day special) His comment after first bite "wow, best fish i have ever had" I had the rigatoni pasta, very flavorful, loved it. Wow, wow, wow. Big disappointment! Won't go back. First, waitress brought my Prosecco, put bottle and glass in front of me. Normally the server opens and pours. Next, Minestrone soup was lukewarm. Chose not to send it back. I was afraid it would come back scalding hot. Just as well, about 5 minutes into the soup and she brought out the entrees. A big no-no. Most servers check the tables first to make sure that the customers are ready. The only good meal out of 4 was the ribs. Well worth the price. My chicken parm was ok, but the pasta was lukewarm and some of it was even cold. Asked for more bread, which came when we were done eating and it was scalding hot. We were not offered dessert, we had to ask if they had any. So she brought us one dessert menu for the 4 of us. We just wanted some gelato or sorbet. Turns out they only have one flavor of both and it was unappealing to all of us. Also need to mention, we were never asked if we wanted more drinks. We just got the check and got out. However, throughout the whole meal, we felt like we were being rushed. So much so, that we thought they must be closing. They were hovering over us and swept our plates away as soon as our forks went down. We sat down to eat at 8 and we were paying the bill by 9. On a Saturday night, people like to sit and have drinks and unwind from the work week. Not here! They want you to eat, pay and leave. . Have the Brick Chicken and don't worry about the warning that it takes 20 minutes to cook- it comes out at a normal dinner pace We ordered the brick chicken and the lobster mac - and they were both top notch. The brick chicken is moist and nicely complimented with a vesuvio sauce(which I would imagine is garlic, butter oregano and magic dust - because it was lick the plate good) We ate at the bar and Suzy was a peach. They have a nice cocktail list and a good selection of drafts. They have the right combo of friendly staff, great food and a comfortable and sexy room. Placed an order for delivery about 2 hours ago. Customer service 5 Stars! The lady on the phone was so patient! Since it was my first time ordering, I had no idea what to expect. Food got here under an hour! The delivery man was sweet as pie.. and the pizza was tastey.. not the best, but I'd eat it again. This place is fantastic and as a new Portage Park resident, I'm glad it's within walking distance. Legno stands for "wood" in Italian and the inside of the restaurant is just that. While at times you feel like you could be in a sauna, the wood and amazing decor make the place feel cozy, yet stunning. And now, the food. We shared the Eggplant Buffalo Caprese which was served with the best pesto sauce I've ever had. For our entree, we chose the Prosciutto pizza. The pizza crust was doughy, yet crispy, and cooked in a real pizza oven. It came with a sharp parmesan and arugula on top and was simply amazing. We also enjoyed one of the best bottles of wine we have had in a long time - a Pinot Noir, for only $35. Their wine list was surprisingly affordable. Anyway, I can't wait to come back and try more things. We went on a Saturday night (over 4th of July weekend) and it was not very busy at all. So check-it out! read more

I go several times a month with my husband. This review is for appetizers in the bar. The brick oven pizza, grilled calamari and other apps are excellent. The staff lets you know they are glad you chose Legno as a place to spend your money. There are bar specials on food M and W. Tuesday is half price bottles of wine. They also provide fresh baked bread with cheese and olive oil. Not your typical bar fare. The entrees look good although I have not had them yet. Food is great and typically the service is as well. Instead of sitting in the bar area (which is where I prefer) I sat in the dining area and Eddie T was our server.. He was nice but not personable at all and didn't really speak all. Maybe today wasn't a good day but whenever he came by the table he would ask a question and before we could finish a response he already left the table. I had to stop him several times and almost yell across the restaurant to get his attention whenever I needed something. It was pretty slow for a Tuesday night ( not sure why the service wasn't up to standard ) however they have a great deal on half priced bottle wine for Tuesday nights. The happy hour specials here are pretty decent, and the staff is very nice, but the pizza we got was definitely no better than a cheap frozen one from the store. They're supposedly wood fired, but this pizza was very uniform, not crispy or crusty at the edges, and looked like a thick frozen crust. Really good place in portage. Love the new places coming up with quality food, wine, and craft beer. Start with the grand tarting app with prosciutto, caramelized onions, cheese, and olives. Then have either the pizza or the veal ravioli with pistachios. Add in the outdoor patio and it's great here. read more
