I noticed my AC was was 'running' but no cold air was coming out of the vents and as I read the forecast for the week ahead, summer was coming and I was concerned I had a real problem. We just bought a house with an unusable laundry room. It had been designed for much smaller units from several decades ago. I called C&J and talked with Jim about my problem. He came out the same afternoon to look at what we wanted to do. He was extremely knowledgeable, offered me a few different options to achieve what we wanted to do, and gave me a fair quote. I accepted and he was out here less than 24 hours later with all the materiel. Final results - extremely efficient, didn't stop moving & working the entire 4 hours he was here. Work was finished exactly like the plan he laid out the day before and ended up coming in about 20% under his estimate. Jim was wearing a shirt that said "If you can't do it, we can help". If I could give more than 5 stars I would! My husband called Jim at 5pm yesterday as our heat went out. Jim was at our house within an hour with the motor needed for our furnace. We had a 30+ year old furnace and A/C. Other contractors came and basically refused to even look at it saying it was too old and wanted to replace. First thing Jim did when he got here was open it up and jump start it and get it going. He didn't try to push us to replace and just gave us the facts about what was wrong (2 problems) what it would cost to repair today and what else could fail in the future. He said if it was his he would fix-it. Ultimately we still went with a new furnace. Other quotes were similar. Jim used a little less expensive equipment (Goodman), but everything I could find on the internet seemed to match up with what he said about Goodman (market leader, made in Texas, not the highest end but good warranty and has all the specs and features). Also the quality of the install is MUCH more important than the name on the equip. Jim was also the only one who was willing to stand behind when he would be able to do the work and give us assurance on getting it done that week. He even had an emergency job the night before our install and still made it in to get our heat going the next morning! One recommendation which is both a review and about C&J and also advice for renovations in general. If you see something that looks off during the install, make sure you ask questions. Every contractor has people working for them. Everyone makes mistakes. Some contractors will get defensive or angry if you ask questions. This is NOT Jim's style; he is very patient and very eager to make things perfect. There were two main things I had questions about during my install: 1. We had agreed on a 16 Seer and there was a big sticker on the AC that said 14.5 Seer. When I asked Jim, he was very patient. He went ahead and verified directly with the manufacturer that it was the correct unit. Basically, the seer is 16 in combination with the blower he installed. I verified it online that its true later. 2. I didn't like the look of the outdoor AC unit placement (it was too tilted and too close to house). Jim hadn't looked at it himself yet. When he went up an looked he didn't try to defend it, he very quickly fixed the issue and made it better than I expected. After he explained that the team just put the new one where the old one was; but the old one was misplaced. Very happy, The install turned out great. Jim fixed a few things I didn't even realize were problems (like poor humidifier placement). His work was very clean. Lovin the new furnace, AC and Water Heater. read more

I do not write many Yelp reviews because my time is too valuable to spend on average and mediocre service/products. However, I do take the time for unbelievably bad service or exceptional service. I am happy to write about the excellent, exceptional A+ service that I received from Jim at C&J. It started with same day service - I fully expected to wait three weeks for an appointment for a badly overdue furnace cleaning. Jim accommodated my work schedule and arrived promptly at the appointed time. I had a lot of questions and he was more than happy to answer all of them, including questions about my aging water heater. His philosophy is that all homeowners should know the basics about maintaining items in their home, such as furnaces, water heaters, etc. If you are willing to learn, he will teach you on your level of understanding. If learning maintenance tips is not that important, well, that's OK too. He is not out to rip you off. He patiently talked through and explained his testing on the furnace components and what is normal and what is not. He showed and explained to me simple observations that I could perform if I was having trouble with my furnace. He showed me how to change the filter on my humidifier. Our conversation even included my aging water heater and signs that may indicate imminent replacement. Finally, when Jim pulled up to my house I was trying to troubleshoot the sensor on my malfunctioning garage door opener. He told me he would be happy to fix my problem. When he was finished with the furnace cleaning, he fixed the sensor in 10 minutes! I am sure he saved me a couple of hundred dollars for a service call/repair by the garage door company! His prices are beyond reasonable. I could go on and on about the service I received. C & J is a top notch, high-class, honest small business that believes in delivering prompt and excellent service, homeowner education, and great prices through hard work, knowledge and experience. I might also add that Jim served our country as a marine. I am so confident in C&J that I asked Jim to do another job installing a new kitchen sink and faucet. My tenant had an issue with no cold air- I felt bad because this are great tenants but, Holliday weekend, on a Saturday they knew they were going to have to wait. Instead of trying to sell me stuff I didn't need, they fixed what needed fixing and for a very reasonable rate (less than 3 other companies I called). This, by the way on Labor Day weekend - no holiday charge. Then the issue came back. They were back, at no charge, and inspected my AC unit up and down and cleaned it. Then the owner waited outside for an hour in the blazing sun to see if the issue happened again. It didn't. Apparently, the cleaning corrected the issue. They have my business when I replaced furnace and AC! Just good guys looking to repair your stuff, not sell you a new unit when they easily could. I'm a do it your selfer. I did my own hardwood floor to car brakes from you tube. My furnace stopped working and the indicator light said new primary switch. So I ordered one but that didn't work. Finally called Jim because of the good yelp reviews but was still skeptic. He came over in an hour on a weekend and I told him everything I tried. Turns out it was a loose plug on the circuit board. He could have easily told me to buy a new board for $300-$400 since it was 13 years old but he said 'if it was my house I would just wait' and only charged me $50 for the trip. Our air went out during the first day of a 5 day string of 90 degrees this year. I knew it was going to be difficult to get a repairman out with the weather forecast. I called our regular guy and was told it would be 4 days. I completely understood , however said I was going to have to call around. @ 10pm I called Liepert. They stated they were swamped but still said he would do his best to send a repairman out the next day ( which was great). We chatted and I noticed they were from Naperville. Thy asked one of their repairmen on his way home from his last stop to swing by our house. He agreed and arrived @ 11:15pm. We made it through two days of polar vortex weather and the temperature finally started to go up to "normal" Chicago winter temperatures. But even though the weather was getting warmer outside, our home was getting colder. In the middle of a Friday night panic we contacted Leipart for help. A short while later, Jim called us back and guided me through some troubleshooting and figured out that I had some ice deposits interfering with the gas line. Two minutes later, we had heat! If we have any other problems with our HV/AC they will be at the top of the list. read more

One of the guy from an other company told me that we need to replace the A.C due to lower pressure. In order to get an honest opinion, I asked C&J to have visit my home. Guys from C&J came, they measure the freon pressure and told me that we don't need the AC unit replacement. How ever we need a Capacitor and Condenser cleaning. For the titan capacitor 45µ they charged me 100 dollars. ( Online it was listed with in between 12 to 30 dollars range, and when I called him and told him this, he said our capacitors are insured) For cleaning ( A chemical spray on the condenser and later cleaning with water pressure total time taken (7 minutes for cleaning)) they charged 150 dollars. Overall they gave me honest opinion but later I feel the job they have done was quite expensive. read more

This company is fantastic! I called several AC repair companies in the area over the holiday weekend and this is the only company that returned my call promptly. I explained what was wrong and Jim offered a pre-diagnosis over the phone just to give me an idea of what to expect. He arrived on time and offered a thorough examination of my AC unit and also checked the air conditioner in the basement. The AC unit outside needed to be re-wired because the "board" died. Jim explained step by step what he needed to fix and was very hands on--I think that's helpful to a customer that knows little about AC units like myself. Had a loud boom noise as my furnace would start and I Googled to self-diagnosis the problem. After understanding that I could be at risk for having a damaged furnace or a dangerous home, I sent out for quotes and Jim from Leipart reached out right away. I should also mention that this problem kept me up at night and I got a response at 1am. He set up an appointment for a few hours later at 9am (after my family woke up) on New Years Eve!
