I am so mad I did not find this spot sooner during my trip. I can't wait to go back! The food was perfect. Portions are huge so we ordered two dishes to share. Our drinks were great, I had a caramel iced latte which was perfect and my partner had a banana milkshake that he loved. As for our food we ordered the Apple Pie French Toast and the Chicken and Waffles. I am big on brunch and this is at the top of my list. Everything was perfect, from the chicken being cooked just right, to the soft and flavorful potatoes to the multiple parts of the French toast. Absolutely disgusting! I ordered avocado toast. I asked specifically if it could be made with dry toast just avocado and tomato. Absolutely no salt. The menu states: "SOPHIE'S AVO-TOAST $12.00, Tasty sourdough, lime, fresh homemade guacamole, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese and fresh greens" What they tried to serve me was brown goop on butter slathered limp, toasted bread which was whole grain bread, not sourdough bread and whatever that brown goop was could've been guacamole, but maybe two or three days ago. Fresh avocado is GREEN. It was certainly not what I ordered and what the server acknowledged, which, again was dry toast with avocado and tomato - absolutely no salt. It's also supposed to come with greens. Mine was served with fried potatoes covered in salt. Absolutely unacceptable and disgusting. When I brought it to the server's attention, he seemed embarrassed and said that he had actually discussed it with the manager before bringing it out was told to serve it anyway. I am fluent in Spanish and English and I found it offensive that the host initially greeted me in English (how would he have known I wasn't French or German?) and when I responded in Spanish (although with my Costa Rican accent), he continued to speak English to me. My recommendation is to stay away and go elsewhere. read more

First day was good, second day was because we didn't get to try everything we wanted to the first time, and wouldn't you know it, those meals were significantly better, and not just because we'd been thinking on them for 24h. Highly, highly recommend the guava cream cheese french toast and the chicken and waffles. The perfect amount of sweet in the guava french toast. The dulce du leche pancakes from day 1 were good but just too much, too teeth-clenchingly sweet -- an appetizer sized portion or splitting them would be better. And the waffle on the chicken and waffles was possibly the best waffle I've ever had, the right amount of crunch, the right level of sweet, served with a dipping sauce of hot honey and both maple syrup and hot sauce available on the table. If I went again tomorrow (and I might), I could see doing that perfect pairing again. read more

My boyfriend and I were both going to order our own apple French toast and the server advised us to only get one and THANK GOD cause it was huge, we didn't even finish it between the two of us. It was so good though. I got the potatoes and my boyfriend got a side of bacon. The potatoes were delicious! Lela's Eatery is a lovely breakfast/brunch spot in the Condado area of San Juan, PR. My dining partner and I chose to sit outside on the patio, which is open and airy with ceiling fans to provide some additional air flow. The menu offers a wide array of options ranging from omeletts to avocado toast to burgers to mallorca. I chose the creme del dia, which is an oatmeal/corn meal porridge that reminded me of cream of wheat. It was delicious and very filling. The waitstaff was attentive and helpful throughout our meal and was happy to answer any questions we had. My only complaint is that the patio can be a little loud since it's on a main road and next door to the USPS. Expect to hear trucks and cars riding by throughout your meal. While there, an exceptionally loud tow truck parked right next to the patio and seemed to make as much noise as it possibly could while setting up the tow. This is certainly not Lela's fault, but just be aware that you won't have a the most quiet experience while on the patio. All in all, I enjoyed this restaurant and would visit again in the future. read more

Friends and I came here for our last brunch before leaving San Juan. The service was excellent; our waiter saw that we were carrying luggage and immediately made a spot for us to store our bags. She was extremely friendly and helped recommend us different drinks from their extensive juice menu. This is how I tried Tamarine juice for the first time, something I would normally not order. Spoiler alert- it was delicious. The drinks came first. We got the vanilla latte, coffee, tamarine juice, and another fruity juice that I cannot remember the name of. The juices were fantastic, solid 10/10. I was quite disappointed in the vanilla latte however, which tasted very watered down. The food took a while to come, but the presentation was very nice. I appreciated the uniqueness of the Apple pie French toast, the flavor was good but it could have been softer on the crusts. My omelette was tasty- nothing special though. The potatoes lacked a bit of flavor and were soft instead of crispy. I cannot speak for the avocado toast, but it looked yummy! Overall, I had a pleasant experience here. We were split up, because the space was made for smaller groups, but all of us had the same wonderful experience. For our smaller group, our server was Lizzy.
