Like the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." First and foremost, to all of the 3 star and lower reviews - what were you honestly expecting? This place has been around for decades. It isn't trying to be the next Portillo's, it isn't competing with McDonald's and Burger King - it exists still because locals are loyal to it and people love it. I've been coming to Lemon Tree since I was a kid, and I still love to treat myself to it once in awhile. Like everyone says, the BG fries are amazing! Definitely get them! Their shakes are delicious. The prices aren't bad for a little mom & pop joint, and they have a nice variety of options on their menu. They also have daily specials (grilled cheese & fries, two dogs and fries, etc.). The entire restaurant is dated, but who cares? We should always support our local mom and pop places vs. the big chains! Give this place an honest try next time you drive by and wonder what it's all about. read more

Went to get a sandwich and bag fries while waiting for my food I could see the kitchen staff not wearing there masks I get it that it's hot fine but reaching into food and eating on the line not washing hands I won't eat there again quality has gone down it's a shame because they are a long time lemont business read more

GARLIC FRIES - get the large- don't share. then if you are still hungry - order something else. Ohh - the shakes - (I personally like Strawberry) are awesome. I suggest not eating the GARLIC FRIES and shake together - enjoy them separately, seriously - if you are able to eat a whole order of GARLIC FRIES by yourself and still have functioning plumbing - please know that the shake could end that for you - especially if you are out on a date. BTW- I was kidding about not sharing. Most everything is good- I go for the fried shrimp when I can - and we share the garlic fries usually. This is another one of those places you drive by for 25 years before finally going inside, and you only do because you like Yelping and promised yourself to try new places before hitting a drive-thru. So the place is super dated, and only clean in that there isn't garbage strewn everywhere. The menu is quite extensive. I tried the pork tenderloin sandwich, which is huge, and also breaded despite the menu not indicating it as such. It was pretty good. It came with completely flavorless fries and the fountain soda had that old stale flavor that places like these often have. My wife had a grilled cheese and cup of chili. She described it as average. I'd go so far as to say "adequate" but not really good. She said the chili was like the canned stuff they put on hot dogs. The cheese in her grilled cheese wasn't melted. There is absolutely no reason you should want to go here. It's a dive fast food place that has really nothing memorable in taste or flavor to make it worth while. The only saving grace was that they had some pop (can't remember the name of it right now) that you can't find anywhere but there. Food is greasy. The place is always dirty. There's better quality fast food down the street, why in the heck would you stop by here? If you're heading towards I-55 and saw this as the last place either turn right around and go to the shopping complex with the TJ Maxx on the right side or just promise your tummy some food thats 100xs better in the city. read more

Looking forward to our first time there. We ordered gyros plates. The price listed on the menu board was $2 less than we were charged. We questioned the manager and he changed the price with his hand held controller right before our eyes and said with out an apology "Oh, they never changed the price". Resolution: he should have honored the price that was stated on the menu board. The food was sub par and will never visit or recommend this restaurant to any one. Typical burger/hot dog type food. Also has gyros which are typical. Nothing special or bad about the food. I would rate it as a bit pricey for what you get though. This place runs as slow as molasses though. There are 7 people working (1:30 weekday). 1 boss in the office, 2 on registers, 4 cooks/prep. You have to wait a very long time for food- and it is not busy. I timed the sandwich maker 4 mins to make a cold sub. Most of the food on the menu is quick to make- burger, grilled chicken, and fired chicken being the longest. Also the dining area is dirty and not attended to. A classic and traditional sub, beef, burger and hot dog joint. Pretty good beefs, great hot sub sandwiches like you grew up in the city and a pretty extensive menu. This is one if those places that represents Chicago fast food. If you are in the area you have to stop by. Cheers. John read more

I have been coming to Lemon Tree a few times a year since my mom moved to Lemont in 2002. I went there today since my mom is moving out of state in a few weeks and I will not be making a trip out here again. I'm not 100% sure why we keep coming here aside from having a taste for garlic butter fries and not wanting your normal fast food drive thru that this town has plenty of. It was everything I usually expect. Poor customer service, the woman working the window didn't even say hello just told me my total (even mcdonalds says hello ). The wait was really long...like always. And I always know to put my bag on the car floor because my seat will be covered in grease by the time I get home. The "coca cola" is I believe RC..if not it's probably a generic cola. I don't expect much from the breaded chicken sandwhich but today was worse than I've ever had. I ordered a jr cheeseburger for my youngest and she ate maybe half of it. I ordered a hotdog for my oldest and she took one bite and couldn't eat it. However, all of us ate the garlic butter fries...we usually do. I might be wrong but it tastes like fries tossed in butter flavoring (like they put on popcorn), lawrys salt and some garlic powder. Only once out of all these years have I dined in. It smells as outdated as it looks. The older woman who usually works the front counter (I've done carryout to avoid long drive thru lines) has been there for at least 12 years. Sometimes she's really nice and sometimes she's in a bad mood and will complain in front of patrons. 1 star for garlic butter fries and being another option aside from mcdonalds. read more

My husband and I went for our first time. It was ten to nine. The inside closes at nine which we didn't know because the hours say till ten. The drive thru is open till ten inside closes at nine. Now that you know that they were nice told us to please stay and eat our food. Food was good but I thought a little high priced it was like 18.00 for two burgers ,onion rings, garlic fries, and two drinks. Food is fresh made to order. Nice place to support local. Stopped by this neighborhood establishment for the first time in a couple of years. I ordered a gyros with fries and a small drink. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The gyros was shaved thin and perfectly cooked. They have a really good tzatziki sauce that has just the right amount of garlic and cucumbers in it. Some places over do the garlic and people know you're coming from a mile away. I definitely recommend The Lemon Tree and will stop by next time I'm in Lemont. read more

This place is a typical burger/hot dog joint -- don't expect gourmet cuisine, it's great for what it claims to be and it's a good value. People are right, the BG fries are awesome! You must try them! I'm pretty much writing this review to comment on the drive-thru. Their drive-thru is not a typical drive-thru, speedy. The reason: EVERYTHING is made to order. They don't sandbag fries and burger patties with the expectation that people will order them, like the typical major fast food chain. The whole purpose of this is to eliminate a trip inside the restaurant. It's for convenience. Do not expect the cashier to hand you a bag of food as soon as you get to the window. You will wait, but your food will be fresh. As a side note, you can phone in your order and pick it up in the drive-thru. I typically order my food and almost immediately drive up there. Also, if I remember correctly, they drop your fries when you get there to guarantee their freshness. The staff at Lemon Tree is always friendly. read more

Our hotdogs were cold (mom asked them to microwave it to heat it), the beef was covered in mustard??? - who puts mustard on a beef? Did not like the sausage either, it was dry and overcooked. What can I say that hasn't already been said...well, this has been said but, GARLIC FRIES. My husband and I both grew up having family beef joints: mine, Doggie Diner in Woodridge, his, The Eagle in Downers Grove. Hey, it's a Chicago thing. The Lemon Tree has some great items, but a few things are lacking for me. Gyros are a little light on the meat and veggies, and the beef could be a little more substantial, but, overall, this place is legit. Still one of my all time favorites. I grew near this place and as a kid would scrounge up some change with my friends and get some BG fries. I hadn't been back to this place in over a decade and recently went back. Everything is the exact same as I remember in the early-mid 90s, from the decor to the menu to the food. Outside of the BG fries, I highly recommend the Reuben sub, hot. For the rest of the "fans" (?) of the Lemon Tree, are you giving the place some sort of backhanded praise by broadcasting how unhealthy their food is but touting the fries? Watch some tv, everything but a bowl of Cheerios with bottled spring water is bad for you. I've been past it a thousand times and haven't stopped there and tonight as I consider it I made the mistake of reading these reviews. What's the story? Is the food expensive for what it is or reasonable? Is the place a dirty dive or a typical small drive in? Are the employees slow and indifferent or are they doing their job? Went to Lemon Tree Wednesday night. There were no other customers when I walked in. Ordered two hot dogs, two medium subs and an order of the garlic butter fries. Hot dogs are already cooked, all they have to do is place the dogs in the buns and add the condiments which takes a few minutes. The subs were ordered "cold" so again, split the bread, layer the sliced meat, lettuce, onions, tomatoes and cheese. Again, ...........few minutes? So the only possible item you could be waiting for would be the fries? I waited about twenty-five minutes. I can see three guys working in the kitchen. Why was the wait sooooo lonnnnng? Got home, the fries had no butter, just the dry seasoning. The subs were rather skimpy, single layer of meat, hardly any shredded lettuce and used only one slice of cheese (cut in half) on a medium sub. So the girl working there called out my order. I walk up to the counter to see the rest of the order was missing. She's handing me the two subs.....only! Food needs some work, and service is way too slow! read more

Wasn't sure what to expert but the food was quite enjoyable. The gyros were cooked crispy and delicious, not super greasy. The pita was good and so was the sauce. I was really excited about the fries! Thick,soggy fries are the worst!!!! These were nothing like that. Super crunchy and crispy, thin and just how I like them! They also have good fountain soda. The food is fine, it's fast food so it is hard to screw up, but if you are in the drive thru it will seriously take 20 just to get a milk shake. Standard burger/hot dog/gyro joint. It's nothing special but they've been consistently good over the years- stuff cooked to order hot, fresh, crisp. Every time I've been in there it's clean (even though it's dated but who cares if in decent condition and clean). Great local spot in town where decent food doesn't exist. It's perfect for lunch or a quick dinner. Service is fairly quick and the place is kept clean. I highly recommend the grilled chicken pita. It's the best thing on the menu. You also can't go wrong with the hot pastrami. My wife loves their garlic butter fries, but they're not for me. The regular fries are good, they remind me McDonalds, but without the nasty greasy film. Their soups taste like they are homemade. I've had the cream of chicken and the chicken noodle.
