Excellent place and Excellent food! First time there with friends. We had a lovely bottle of pinot grigio from the Willamette Valley in Oregon. The place has an extensive wine list! For dinner I had the confit chicken quarter which was absolutely delicious. Very fresh. Very tasty. My husband had the snake head fish dish which he very much enjoyed. Our friends had the ricotta gnocchi (which I will have the next we go) and the duck. For dessert, my husband and and I shared a pear dessert with ice cream and granola. SO SO GOOD!! Our friends had the sweet potato creme brulee which was also amazing. Our server, Jacob, was Awesome! Very friendly. Very attentive. Answered all of our menu questions. He was great! Stopped in for a happy hour drink at the bar and was pleased to see Leo is certified as an Oceans Friendly Restaurant! We love when the places we eat has goals and values that align with our own. The atmosphere is intimate but not romantic, meaning as a single person, in a group or on a date night, all would feel equally comfortable. Overall, the service was good, and they offer a nice selection of wines. I started with the Crispy Grits. They were amazing as was the aioli served with the grits. My only critique is to remove the paper napkin on the plate. It gets moist and starts to come apart. For my Main, I had the Coulette Steak (1 star). This was very disappointing. I was presented with a dinner plate piled high with french fries and a small side of Coulette Steak smothered in a bland sauce. The 2-inch squares of steak were sliced too thin, and the entire dish was room temperature. Had my entre not been so bad, I would have given Leo 5 stars. That is why I will give them another try and hopefully have the experience I was anticipating. read more

Good, food and drink. The drink "...the best days or something, something...bourbon with lime" was very tasty. We both ordered the burgers which is a specialty of theirs. She ordered the lentil burger which she liked (I thought that with bread was too much). I got the regular smash burger, fantastic. And the fries were on point, wish they bought out malt vinegar. The problem was the service. Our waitress was like-not available. We didn't order an appetizer because she took so long to get to us, even though she was constantly around us at different tables and the register. It was bad enough that the manager (we think?) waited us for drinks and refills. Overall, would go again, but prices a little high for burger and fries and drinks. This is a fairly fancy restaurant, but they advertise as family friendly and truly are. We came with a 2 month old and were treated very well - they made space for her stroller and made us feel completely welcome. There was also a child at the next table who appeared to be 2-3 and they provided her with a high chair. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but it seemed like they intentionally put the families with kids together - if so, it was very smart since it puts less pressure on those families if the kids get fussy and allows the adults without kids to avoid them. The food was excellent! The Parker rolls were incredible - only complaint was that there were 4 of us and it would have been nice to have them either bring out 4 rolls or warn us that it only came with 3. We tried 3 of the sides - potatoes, Brussels sprouts with harissa, and broccolini. My favorite was the broccolini, but the rest of my family liked the Brussels sprouts best. For entrees two of us ordered the catfish, one ordered the risotto, and one ordered the steak. Everyone was thrilled with the entrees, which we sadly didn't remember to take pictures of since we were too excited to eat! We tried the bread pudding, coffee panna cotta, and raspberry tart for dessert. The general consensus was that the bread pudding was amazing, the raspberry tart was a very close second best, and the panna cotta would have been great without the comparison to the others but didn't rise to their level. What a wonderful dinner at Leo in Annapolis, MD this week! We had an amazing experience dining here. We sat outside because we had our dogs with us. The staff was so welcoming and accommodating. They helped us rearrange the table to fit our stroller and brought water for our dogs. The cocktails were so good! We ordered the 200 block, a beet cocktail, and liquid gold, a bourbon and averna cocktail. Both recommended by our server and both excellent. We ordered the old bay wings, the crispy chicken, and the porchetta sandwich. Our favorite was the crispy chicken. The sauces and carrot puree were perfect with the juicy chicken. For dessert we ordered the flour less chocolate cake. It was delicious! Although we sat outside, we went inside to use the restroom and the interior was beautiful. Great atmosphere overall. We dined here last night, and it was delicious! A short walk from the Westin to a delightful, funky spot. The menu is small but all-encompassing - vegan, gluten-free, meat and fish options, as well as an extensive wine list. Sundays, they have "make your own burger."" We opted for the bison burgers (mixed with bacon) with several toppings (some are free, some you pay extra for). I had pickled onions, pickles, and cheddar cheese; it was moist and perfectly cooked. My husband had sautéed onions, queso fresco, and roasted poblanos on his. He thoroughly enjoyed it. Burgers come with a side of fries or a salad. We opted for fries, which were superb. We enjoyed a delicious bottle of Italian red with our dinner. There are dessert options that were tempting, but we were too full from dinner. The service was exceptional. We were greeted warmly at the door, and very shortly after, we sat a server brought us water, and let us know our server, Kilmer, would be with us momentarily. Kilmer was friendly, knowledgeable about the dishes, and attentive. He took super care of us! If you are in the Annapolis area, stop by, I'll bet you will not be disappointed. It's always late nice to experience newly opened restaurants. Even nicer when they're just steps away from your hotel. I showed up without a reservation but they had space for me at the bar. The restaurant has a fresh interior, good lighting, and is nicely laid out. The staff were friendly and engaging which is nice when you're on your own. The food and drink menus make choosing an enjoyable challenge. I went with a dirty martini and the Seared Bavette Steak. Both were excellent. Leo was a great experience. I finally went to Leo to eat dinner and I was not impressed at all. We ordered the deviled eggs and pimento cheese dip as appetizers. The deviled eggs were advertised as having crispy chicken skin included which was almost comical. They were regular deviled eggs with a sliver of chicken skin in the middle. The size was smaller than a finger nail so clearly gave no flavor. The deviled eggs themselves were nothing to write home about and I would say my deviled eggs are much better. It was $16 down the drain and yes, that is the actual price which is crazy. The pimento cheese dip was very delicious and came with 4 crackers. The jar of the dip was substantial so we asked for more crackers to finish the dip and saw on our receipt they charge you for more crackers. The price of the pimento cheese is $18...again shocking but with the additional crackers it was $20. Let me reiterate...A.cheese.dip.was.20 dollars. For the main entrees two of us got the smash burger which I would say was just okay. There was no special sauce that I could taste so I have definitely had better smash burgers. We also ordered the snakehead fish which is one of the main reasons I'm writing this review. It was served with a beurre blanc sauce that tastes pretty good but the fish and the batter were completely flavorless. It was so bland that we asked our server for salt and paprika (which I have never done in my entire life until now) to try and make it taste like something and season my own food. The fish was $31 which again I think is pricey especially how flavorless it was. I wish we would have went to one of the restaurants near by because I would have much rather spent my money there. This restaurant is one I will never return to given the price and the food. I didn't even get to mention the fact that our server never cleared the table between apps and drinks so we had a literal stack of dishes and glasses on our table the entire time. I really am not one to complain but this was so bad that I felt the need to let others know. Give your money to other local restaurants. read more

I don't write reviews often, but after an exceptional dining experience at Leo during a weekend trip to Annapolis, I felt obligated to write a glowing review. I eat a lot of fish at restaurants, so I feel qualified to say that the rockfish they prepared was the flakiest, most incredible piece of fish I've ever eaten. It was absolute perfection, and I would make the trek from DC back to Annapolis for that same meal again and again. My boyfriend ordered the porchetta sandwich, which he said had an incredible texture, and the beet hummus appetizer which he loved as well. Service was excellent as well - staff were friendly and very accommodating of dietary restrictions. Came on a Sunday. I had a reservation but was about 15 minutes late. Called to let them know and was reassured that I could still be accommodated. When we arrived it wasn't full. We sat down right away. Marcy was our waitress. She provided attentive service. My guest had a lot of questions and some request. She graciously answered all of them. We had the salmon dip which was tasty. We don't really eat oysters but decided to try. Didn't really know what to expect but they were ok. I probably wouldn't order those again. For my entree I had the chicken breast. It was juicy and flavorful. My guest had the snakehead and I sampled a little piece. The sauce with corn and tomato was good. The fish itself had a very mild flavor with a tad of a fishy taste. I got the end so it was a less flaky than I expected. For dessert I had bread pudding which was also tasty. While I wanted to go to one of my favorite places for a burger, they are not super easy to get to so we decided to give Leo a try. Well I'm happy to report they did not disappoint. The decor is fresh and cozy and the place is very intimate. We started off with a make your own charcuterie and did two cheeses and one meat. Everything was delicious. We also got the pork belly. I don't eat pork belly often but this was probably one of the best I've ever had. The Old Bay dusted on it really elevated the flavor. It basically melted in my mouth. As for entrees, we got the seared bavette steak and the Leo Burger. Everything was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. My only complaint is that the fries with the burger weren't cooked enough for me. I like my fries to have a nice crisp to them. I'll be sure to order them that way next time. read more

8/29/2024 3.5 Star Ambiance: cozy, modern, rustic "bistro-esque" environment. The closest parking is @Calvert Street (4-5 blocks walk, not too bad of a walk). There is street parking nearby, but good luck finding a spot. 13 seating at bar with enough room to maneuver. Added bonus: there are hooks underneath the bar seating to hang purses or murses (for men). Decent amount of tables available, not cramped throughout the restaurant. Service: we were greeted immediately and shown to available seating. Staff are hospitable, not pushy. Foods came out at a decent time. One suggestive note: there should be coasters for the glasses when ordering cold beverages. There was no water spillage by anyone, the water residue came off from the glasses of cold beverages. Neither the server nor manager wiped away the water when they came to clear the table. They placed the utensils near the water residue. We didn't ask staff to wipe off the water because why bother to ask when they saw it for themselves? We ended up wiping the water off ourselves. Foods: menu is small, catering to a seasonal concept. This is good because it means foods are freshly made and sustainable to the seasons. We ordered an ale, a glass of white wine, one non-alcoholic beverage, broil oysters, snakehead (fish), tile fish, cantaloupe granita, and drunken bread pudding. The drinks are fine. However, the broil oysters with breadcrumbs on top lack seasoning as no flavors lingering thereafter, not memorable. Would not order this again. The snakehead was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The corn, tomatoes, and green beans that came with it are cooked deliciously. The great and unexpected flavor was the added pinto beans to this dish. Would definitely order this entree again. Now, for the tile fish order, which is a delicate fish. It was cooked to perfection. However, the hodgepodge of squashes, tomatoes, kidney beans, capers, and olives has left to be desired as it left an unpleasant citrusy note. It was too much going on, not in a good way. It would have been better if this fish came with a light cream sauce and grilled broccolini or asparagus. Sometimes, it's better to keep things simple so the flavors can shine through. Would order tile fish again, IF and only IF, it came with a DIFFERENT mash. We both love the drunken bread pudding (that came with vanilla ice cream) but differ in the cantaloupe granita (it's neither good nor bad, it just depends on whether one is a fan of granita or not). The bottom line is - will we return? Definitely. read more

3 star for food, 4 stars for ambiance and service. But food was so MEH especially for the price (and tiny portion) so overall I'm giving 3 stars. Maybe I had high expectations, but the food unfortunately was very much sub-par. We ordered two burgers (porchetta burger and leo burger). Leo burger was double patty smashed burger which we liked, but the patties felt very lean / dry. It had a couple pickles, greens, and a tiny bit of sauce on top; overall the flavor was very bland and we had to dip the burger in ketchup (every bite) to give it flavor. Porchetta burger was basically the same thing except instead of beef patties they had porchetta - it also felt VERY dry (how does one cook pork belly dry?). Brioche bun used for both burgers were also dry, tasted store bought (and not even the good kind). Was a bit disappointed that they didn't have the creativity to make the two burger different other than swapping out proteins. Lastly fries... also tasted bland and not super crispy. Overall the theme of the dinner was bland, dry, and healthy(?). I guess if this is a plus for you (maybe some folks don't like greasy burgers or watching their figure), this is a place you can get healthy tasting food with good ambiance and very pleasant workers (nice maitre d, servers).. but personally I love me some juicy, mouth watering, flavorful burger. Went here shortly after they opened. my wife and I didn't have reservations and just came in to look at the menu but our surprise they were able to fit us in without a reservation on a Friday night even though it was packed. Very accommodating. The food was much better than the usual Annapolis fair. Very creative and flavorful. we ordered the scallop appetizer, and I must say they were quite possibly the best scallops we have had. Highly recommend Leo's. read more

Had to go to the inaugural brunch weekend, I love brunch so was very excited when they announced they were doing a weekend brunch. We started with fried grits, they come with 4 sticks but we were so hungry that we ate two before I could snag a Pic. That hot sauce aoili is fire and the star of the brunch as they incorporate it into a good few of the menu items. It came on my pork belly hash and my wife used the leftover from the grits app to dip her frittata in. Speaking of the frittata it was cooked perfectly, some places the frittata ends up being dry and overcooked and that was not the case it was filled with toppings and not dry at all. The combo of Goat cheese and spinach gets me every time. The pork belly hash was also amazing, you get alot of nicely rendered pork belly potatoes, pickled jalapeños, red pepper and a egg on top served with the hot sauce aoili. The all those together in one bite is quite extraordinary. Lastly I had the grapefruit mimosas and I could tell it was fresh grapefruit and was so good I ordered two.
