Have been meaning to try Leo's since it opened however wanted to avoid the crowds that I have seen there, particularly during the weekends . Went in on a weekday with the family and the atmosphere was cozy and the food from app to main was amazing. The scallop app was cooked to perfection and a must try! Try the Snakehead. No really. Tried Leo for the first time last night - shame on me for not spotting it earlier. The atmosphere is warm and inviting; the commitment to finding the best local ingredients and making them shine is evident; and the staff is knowledgeable and genuinely excited about the menu (always a good sign). The cocktail menu is fun and eclectic - I had the West Street Gimlet, which added a hint of mint and celery bitters to the gin and lime juice for a very refreshing take on a classic. The broiled oysters were delicious (and from Annapolis!). Just when I thought it couldn't be any better, I tried the Snakehead. Yes, that Snakehead - the very invasive species of fish that has been plaguing mid-Atlantic waterways for some time now because they have no local natural predators. If you look them up, they are kind of scary (they can walk short distances on land) - but it turns out they are also DELICIOUS! A firm white fish with a delightfully delicate flavor. It would be great in almost style , but the preparation in light butter with beets and beet greens really highlights everything well. The portion was quite generous and I'm not usually a member of the "clean plate club" on any night, but I demolished this dish. And I actually got to HELP the environment doing it (bonus!). Finally, I didn't think I'd have room for dessert, but I kept seeing slices of the Griddled Angel Food Cake go by, so I just had to try. It was lovely - lite and delicate but still full of flavor. Plus, the griddling gave it a hint of "toasted marshmallow". If you are a fan of a light and not TOO sweet dessert, this one is for you! And seriously, do yourself a favor and try the Snakehead. read more

Food and drinks are awesome! Menu a bit limited but they are just getting started and I assume it will develop. Service friendly and attentive. Our only complaint is the noise level when busy: ceilings are low and it's a small space. read more

Had dinner and drinks at Leo in Annapolis tonight. What a great experience this was. I had the Leo Burger with fries and it was delicious. Our bartender, Frank, was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. The bread pudding was the perfect light dessert to cap off the night. I have a habit of support local businesses. So, I decided to go here. By myself, I had their smash burger and scallops and two beers. Well, my bartender was great. He was all ears. He didn't ask me what I do for a living. That's something you'd ask if you were vetting someone for a potential relationship. Well, let's get right to the point. First, the food and expensive: seared scallops. It was done just right. 3 pieces of whole scallop were served with some forgettable sauce and pickled garnish and dill. It was a missed opportunity to complement the nice scallops, in my opinion. The $17 smash burger was dry. By the nature of how it was cooked, it's dry but it should be balanced it out with something. Normally caramelized onion is added for juiciness and flavor. But not here. The beef flavor stood out but nothing was provided to compliment the beef. Slices of pickles did help. It was an ordeal trying to finish it. It took two beers to make it work. Well, I did my duty to support local a newly open business. I hope they rework their burger and rethink on providing a bit better value and sauce for the scallops. Again, the bartender's sympathetic ears made up for it's shortcomings with my dishes. My wife and I just moved from DC to the Annapolis area 6 weeks ago and one of the things I was most worried about was missing out on the DC food scene we loved. We came to Leo tonight as your first sit down night out in Annapolis and we were not disappointed. We had 4 things on the menu (pork belly, vegan risotto, rockfish, and smash burger all delicious) and I wish I could have had everything else on the menu. 3rd time at Leo last night and it didn't disappoint. Crisp drinks at the bar and specialty cocktails from Franklin and Liz who are vibrant and delightful. The food is consistent, perfectly portioned and make you reach for that bread pudding superstar. Pea Risotto was cooked to perfection and the Porchetta Sandwich has twice now been a filling entree. You can't go wrong with beet hummus. Service is sealed with a lot of respect and we've seen consistent servers so it makes me think they also do right by their employees. Keep it up Leo! read more

Based on all the 5 star reviews, my daughter, two friends and I decided to give Leo a try. What used to be a pie place is now a very cute, cozy bar/restaurant. For a small place the tables are nicely arranged and not too close together. We had a 6:30 reservation and were seated immediately. Our waiter, J Wick was great. Very friendly and attentive. we started with cosmos and margaritas. very good. It goes downhill from this point on. All four of us ordered the asparagus soup. it came lukewarm and not hot and had green chive oil generously drizzled on top. the soup itself had a good flavor but not with a mouthful of oil. not one of us finished it. Two ladies ordered the pea risotto. Again, the oil! This time a pool of herb oil that filled the plate with the risotto on top. the green oil was so unappetizing and unappealing. Sent it back. my daughter and I had the scallops. lukewarm and under cooked. almost raw but we ate them . we decided to order the snakehead fish for the table, just to try it. very dry, as was the crispy chicken that replaced the risotto. I mean how can you mess up a chicken breast. all in all, this place has potential but if the chef doesn't live up to those 5 star reviews, this place won't last a month. word of mouth gets around in this small community. our tab was almost 400$ . the wine we ordered got us through it. read more

Leo's is a great addition to Annapolis, the owner greeted us as we sat and introduced us to our waitress Sidney. Sidney was knowledgeable about the menu and gave wonderful suggestions. we started out with a crafted cocktail and a few appetizers. hummus appetizer was incredible along with the charcuterie board. Since this was our first time, we each got a different main dish. The snake head was delicious but if your a meat and potato person the burger and fries are definitely for you. we also got one of every dessert to finish off the perfect evening. Our delicious dinner at Leo Annapolis had us planning the next visit before we even left the table! The space is thoughtfully decorated and offers an inviting environment to drink, dine, and enjoy each other's company. One thing I love to see is a menu full of connections to local farms/businesses - it shows that Leo Annapolis values being a part of the community and providing patrons with high quality, locally sourced ingredients. As my brother-in-law noted, "you can tell it's going to be good when the name of the farm is on the menu!" Chef Matt and his team did not disappoint - every course was unique and flavorful. We were just calling into Annapolis briefly and hoped to find some local fare.... But we stayed here for hours! The food is absolutely incredible and the service was so lovely. Plus we were amazed at the value! The rockfish and pork belly were especially good, and I am not a vegan so I did not think I'd enjoy the risotto but it really surprised me! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner tonight at Leo. Everything was smooth from start to finish. We were seated promptly and had an attentive, friendly server. Now on to food: Get the golden crispy grits appetizer. It's served with a well-matched aioli. Quite tasty and sharable. For mains, we did our part to help reduce the invasive snakehead fish population by having one for dinner, and it was delicious. Pan seared and served with beets and kale. I hadn't seen it on a menu before and had to try it! The vegan risotto was nicely prepared. It was a generous serving that left enough for tomorrow's lunch. For dessert, why have just one or two? So we did three! We had a griddled angel food cake with strawberries, coffee panna cotta and a variation on a s'more. I think the s'more was my favorite (I'm partial to chocolate), but I would order any of them again. Hats off to Chef Matt and his crew - well done! I also wanted to mention that we had three different beers, all draft. The beer list is small but well curated, and we saved a few bucks getting two of them at Happy Hour prices. Leo has a local/seasonal bent, so we look forward to return in a while to see what's new. read more
