After a long day exploring Boston, everyone wanted pizza but didn't want to go back out. I found Leone's and decided to order delivery. We ordered a large Sicilian slice w/meatballs, onions & olives. The entire family loved it! Just the right amount of sauce with a balance of tomato & spice, tasty meatballs and right amount of Italian olives & onions. Sooooo good! The best pizza ever. I I can't decide if I like the square or the round better. They put oregano on the pizza which I didn't necessarily know that I would love but the pizza is so ridiculously delicious that the oregano is also amazing. We will say, we liked the meatball even though wrong size. Also ordered 1/2 Sicilian box and received 1/2 tomato basil. What people LOVE about Leone's is that it has stayed exactly the same & tried & true since the 50s. Leone's started in 1954. It serves Sicilian Style Square Bakery Pizza in several varieties. You can order in advance or take a chance & stop by & see what they have available at that time. When I was there they were serving Classic Cheese & Tomato Basil & Garlic. DELICIOUS! It is a small neighborhood gem that has a huge following not only from Somerville but all over Massachusetts & other states too. They also serve subs & other items too. Their Meatball Sub is also a cult favorite. They send food to as far away as California, Florida & Hawaii & other states too. When I went the cars were illegally double parked for one city block long on the weekend - people running in & running out. They take Cash Only but have an ATM in the store. It is a small restaurant that you would totally pass by & never even give it a second thought - A Hole in The Wall. Inside on the right side above the counter there is a video screen of Chris Evans getting surprised with his favorite Leone's Pizza on daytime TV. There's also video of Boston Magazine voting Leone's as One of the Top 21 Places to Eat Pizza in Boston There is metered parking in front for several blocks. I love my somerville and if you want to know whats more amazing is Leones pizza. If you say you are from somerville and never tried this place, I suggest you move to another city.. There are only 3 pizza shops I would eat pizza from they are Leone's, Mama Lisa's and caesar's pizza Leone's has the best sicilian style pizza, I can eat this hot,warm,cold or hungover the next day, for real its that good. I would order a tray or half a tray every time I come. If you want subs they sure know how to stuff them but for me its all about those square scrumptious slices. There is no seating area to eat this is more of a take out kind of shop, but if you dont mind standing there are tables along the wall.. Toppings options are limited, but can please pretty much everyone since they have the basics covered. The salads are huge - easy to split one between 2 people. I saw it listed on Instagram as one of a few great places to get Sicilian pizza, so I stopped in at lunch. The place was tiny (no place to sit, but a counter to eat at if I recall). I got two slices of Sicilian cheese (it was more like 2 large and one small). Very affordable. I have to say, the pizza was excellent. I was expecting good, but it was great actually. Mama Leone left a note on the door of this pizza place. It said, sonny, if you move out to the country, you won't get pizza like this anymore. And she was right. This may be the best slice of pizza in Massachusetts. In fact, it may be leone slice of pizza in Massachusetts that I love. (Get it: Leone... the only... never mind.) What to get: Slice of pizza...... obvi What else: That's leone thing you need to know I'm not a fan of Boston Pizza. Not a fan of the chain up in Canada (do the Canadians realize that Boston isn't really a pizza mecca for most of us), and not a fan of the actual pizza in Boston, compared to - say - Buffalo, Rochester, NYC, Pitt, Cleveland, Chicago.... and so on. Not a fan of Boston Market either but that's another story. The chain I mean. Damn it's annoying when chains take the names of actual things. Anyway the slices I've had in Boston range from awful to okay to kinda good and nothing better. Leone's is the exception. It's not kinda good, it's very good. It's doughy and very tomato-ey but that's a compliment. The slices are absolutely dirt cheap. They're usually sitting out on the counter, and they sell so quickly that they're always fairly hot. I stop in for one every time I am down here visiting Oasis (best Brazilian food outside Brazil!) but be careful when parking because the local meter people are brutal and will get you even if you only leave the car for 77 seconds. And there are banks nearby in case you need to take out a leone to buy this slice. And if you don't want to go aleone, call me. I'll accompany you. I think of this more as a really good flatbread than a pizza, personally. Great sauce and cheese but a thick, bready crust that's on the paler end. I know they've been doing it their way for ages and many like it this way. It's been a blessing to have Leone's around, especially now. As for my humble thoughts- I'd personally love to see more char and bubble on their pizza. read more

So it's COVID season and I'm not eating out much, and having the sammich/pizza munchies after a week of eating clean and healthy, I thought "how could one go wrong with a 4.5 star rated joint with several hundred reviews, especially for impossible-to-mess-up food like pizza & subs?". Ohhh...boy....where do I even start? Let's start with the worst because why not: chicken parm. The sub literally had one piece of chopped up lightly grilled chicken breast, no breading to be found anywhere, nada, none, even if this breasts life depended on it. It would not be OK if you ordered fried chicken at KFC and instead of getting said fried chicken, got grilled chicken instead (you'd probably be offended because you'd think you're being judged for being fat/unhealthy), so why's it OK that Leone's serves grilled chicken subs disguised as chicken parm? Steak bomb was mediocre, "steak" was tough as nails & overly seasoned. Meatball sub was bland. And you're probably thinking....'what in the world is wrong with you, you should have only gotten the pizza, they ain't known for their subs!' Well, jokes on you because the pizza is among the worst I've ever had (yes, even compared to Dominoes & other crap chains). I don't roll with undercooked dough and low quality cheese that clunks up and taste like rubber. At this point, I was being ragged on by my family, keep in mind, it's COVID season and we don't get to eat out 7 days a week like we used to anymore, so we gotta use our take out meals sparingly. This is my third time pick- up order and last night I was disappointed. Pizza is great but Their Italian sub is always a hit or miss. I always request for Italian sub everything on it ( lettuce , tomato onions, pickles, extra hots , pickles) well last night my sub rolls was stale on one end . Leone's is like the family I always wanted but never had. I came for a pizza but got so much more. Here's what I mean: I was waiting for my pizza and a girl walked in to get a slice. She didn't have cash, which is normally a problem at a cash-only joint. Not tonight though, not at Leone's. The cashier didn't hesitate to slide the pizza across the counter to her and say, "Next time you're in the neighborhood you owe us 3 bucks." So good! I would easily give this six stars if I could! We got it delivered for a work event and even as it cooled throughout the evening it was still delicious. I kept going back for more because it was so tasty. In particular I'd recommend the sausage and pepper pizza. The best Sicilian pizza north of Brooklyn....and it could beat most of the places in Brooklyn as well. The cheese is of the highest quality, and the sauce is seasoned perfectly to not get overwhelmed by the thick but light crust. My only complaint is that the pizza is so good, I haven't tried anything else. Only other place in the Boston area close might be Umberto's, but I believe Leone's is better. read more

I've heard a lot about Leone's even though I don't live in Somerville. I ordered four squares of cheese pizza for delivery. I was surprised on how large the squares were. It was enough for two meals. I don't know if this is Yelp's, GrubHub's, or Leone's problem, but I ordered a full tray of Sicilian pizza with mushrooms on one half and pepperoni on the other half in order to accommodate vegetarian guests. It arrived as mushrooms and pepperoni on the entire pizza. Neither GrubHub nor Leone's was willing to take responsibility beyond remaking the order (not an option because of time) or offering a discount on the next order (unacceptable because it doesn't help me feed the people I have *now*).
