It's a bit too doughy for my taste; I'm leaning towards Ap0llo b4gels oops... I had the sesame bagel toasted with strawberry cream cheese. The whole time, I was battling the bagel (jaw workout alert!) and the cream cheese's intensity bro like damn... hella creamy. Someone mentioned this place to me and coincidentally I passed by this place on the way to Xing Fu Tang and the line was crazy long. And shorty after I see the PopUp Bagel and line was shorter. I thought I need to try both places. I ended up coming here today and line again was super long, but decided to get it and I got the Lox Bagel and I want to say it was good, but not life changing. I did appreciate the cucumbers added to this Lox bagel - that was a nice touch. It is a small booth, pick-up only with no tables nearby to eat, but there are parks and other areas to enjoy the bagels at. My biggest problem was how my bagels were cold! I was super excited to get in the long line to wait for these delicious bagels even if it meant standing in the cold. We ordered the scallion cream cheese on a regular bagel and the sausage egg and cheese on a regular bagel. Both bagels were soft and had a nice crust, not to dense or to fluffly. I think they had a great bagel consistency because they were also not chewy. The bagels were so warm as the heat from the freshness showed as we ate them outside. I loved Absolute's egg bagels- slightly sweet, almost creamy, egg-custard-like bagels... sadly, they closed and I have been trying to find a replacement (Broadway is the closest I have found). Unfortunately, Leon's bagels were a letdown. Objectively, not a bad bagel if I had ordered merely an everything bagel. But this was supposed to be an EGG-everything bagel. This bagel was not sweet at all and tasted like a regular everything bagel- I don't know why they bother putting the word "egg" in front. Very disappointing experience at Leon's Bagels. I found a hair in my bagel and brought it to the staff's attention. Instead of taking the concern seriously, they repeatedly said they had bad vision and couldn't see the hair, even though it was clearly visible. It took several minutes of back-and-forth before they finally admitted that it was in fact a hair. They then offered to remake the bagel, but the replacement took over 20 minutes. At that point, it felt like they were intentionally delaying the process so I would give up and leave. Eventually, that's exactly what happened. I ended up paying nearly $30 and left with nothing to eat. Finding a hair in food is bad enough, but the dismissive attitude and poor handling of the situation made the experience much worse. Upon walking up to Leon's Bagels, I was excited because the line was extremely long, and there were tons of people waiting for their Bagels, so I took it as a good sign that the food would be really good. Good bagel, I really only go when they have collabs with other brands. This time it was with one of my favorite sunscreen brands Beauty of Joseon. They were giving sunscreen samples . It's the lack of seating here really is my hang up cause I dont want to stand and eat breakfast. The service however has been consistently pleasant and quick . They had a small seating area at this location, it was full. I walked a while before I found a park I could sit . The Salted Caramel Cream cheese ( I believe was a special for the collab) was so delicious and it was whipped till the consistency seemed like thick but light butter instead of cream cheese. So, you drop this place in nearly any mid-size town in America and it's likely the best bagel shop in town. But this is NYC. The standards are high. So consider this review a bit of grading against the competition. Now, there are many positives. First of all, after waiting in line at the place down the street (only to be told after 30 minutes that they were only doing catering/delivery), we waited in this line and it moved quickly. They're efficient! And the bagels were pretty good if you like a little softer. Mine was a generous schmear of cream cheese that was tasty. They're very big but a little doughier like a roll. I just like mine a little more NY style. You may have a different preference but it's definitely worthy of a try.
