Where should you go out of your way to get a Philly cheesesteak? Leo's Steak Shop without a doubt. I came here at night and it wasn't what I expected. I actually wanted a place to sit, but Leo's only has tables outside (and it was too cold for that)...but nonetheless I got a cheese steak with mushrooms to go. It's a little intimidating to come here as a first timer. Too many choices and options for someone who just wants to experience a true Philadelphia cheesesteak. Nonetheless, I quickly blabbered my decision to have a hoagie with mushrooms with the hopes that I didn't mess up my one shot. AND ALL IN ALL - I didn't. It was amazing. The mushrooms had some amazing flavor to the hoagie and it's so fun watching them prepare the ground beef and all the freshness in the prep in the back. I'm not a cheesesteak fan, but my husband is, and this place got so many good reviews and was close to the airport, so it was hard to pass up. I was in the mood for a salad, and wasn't expecting this place to do much since it technically wasn't on the menu. But when I ordered, they were up for the challenge, and I was pleasantly surprised. They were able to give me an extremely generous amount of meat on a huge bowl of lettuce. It was so good I couldn't finish it in one sitting, but that's okay because I could have leftovers. My husband enjoyed his cheesesteak so much he ate it in one sitting! He got the small which is plenty big. We almost got a large, but thankfully the cashier talked him out of it. They also had an impressive variety of chips at the front, too. Just a heads up there is no indoor seating. You can wait for your food outside or inside, but if you want to sit it has to be outside. Luckily the weather was nice and a little breezy, so this worked for us. But if it's really hot and sunny, just be prepared. Also, parking was a little weird since it's street parking. Heard great things about Leo's, so I decided to stop in on my way home from the airport. Ordered the large 18" Italian Hoagie. The place was very clean and organized inside. Was a little early while picking someone up from the airport and had this place noted among my places to check out in my quest to try all the most acclaimed cheesesteaks in Philly. The folks that work there are very friendly, prices great for what you get, and I've never seen a place pack more meat into a cheeseteak than at Leo's. Drove by chose 3 hours to get their infamous philly cheesesteak. Walked in placed order. The write all orders down on a brown paper bag. The guy that took my order was rushing me. I'm still trying to customize THESE 3 steak order. My mom ordered a large turkey hoagie. I had 3 philly cheesesteak orders, 1 chicken & 2 delmonco. People are pouring in to go orders and walk in orders. There was two different groups waiting before us when we walked in. Ok. Then I see others come in get their order and leave. Still waiting. Finally they called mom's order. I'm next. Get my order. The other guy had a attitude...for NO reason. I DIDN'T respond. Just paid and left. They handwrite ( abbreviate)on wrap paper what is on the steak to differentiate the multiple steaks. I wanted a few bites before hitting the road. One said "ckn" ok, that's chicken. The other are the delmonicos but there is scribble writing and I definitely can't figure which one is mine. Mom immediately get out the car. She tells me she has tuna not turkey. Go immediately back inside. Now because how the scribble description of steak, I too have to go back inside to ask them what are these abbreviations. Another guy came up and I pointed to both the can ( clearly it's chicken) but what is the other abbreviation steak. He asked.me where os the bag? Im.like what bag? I saw the other employee put the handwritten brown paper bag in each order upon leaving. My order doesn't have the handwritten paper bag placed inside. He doesn't know either. Called another guy and he said fried onions & pickles. That did not look like a "F," "O" or a "P". I literally went 3 hours to this place specifically for this steak. Mom received her turkey hoagie as ordered. I spent gas, time AND tolls to patronize YOUR business. I have been raving about this place for years although this is my first time actually buying myself a philly. I see the employees joking around while people are waiting for their food. I understand work comradery but there IS a time and place for it. This is lunch hour. People have things to do too. Treat YOUR customers with less attitude and pay attention to details. About a week and a half ago I stopped by Leo's on my drive to Maryland. Me and my friend were excited to get Philly cheesesteaks in PA after years of being so far away from Philly. The service was really sweet and the space was family friendly however my experience wasn't the best as the establishment wasn't cautious with food allergies. I asked what oil was used for frying and upon the first person I asked the response was sunflower oil. However as she went to make sure another woman told me it was soybean oil. I then responded to tell her I wouldn't get anything because I'm allergic to soy and she told me the Philly cheesesteaks weren't cooked with soybean oil it was just to get the French fries. I asked if she was sure because I had no problem letting just my friend get something to eat while I found somewhere else, she confirmed that the Philly cheesesteak had no soy and I would be fine. However within the next 45 minutes I can confirm the Philly cheesesteak was not fine and did In fact contain soy as I had an allergic reaction and had to pull over to inject my epi pen. My face remained swollen for 48 hours and the beginning of my trip had to be revised because of my medical emergency. I would like to state I do not expect most places to accommodate me especially as many older places don't fully understand the severity of food allergies. However my biggest concern through it all was godforbid a child with the same allergy came in and a much more reactive immune system, they could die. I could've died if I didn't have the necessary medication on me. I say all this to say, if you have a food allergy please be cautious when going out to eat and if it's a soy allergy you have maybe this isn't the best establishment to get a quick meal at read more

Food was really good, came here twice out if five days i was in Philly. First go round was the large philly with extra cheese. Sandwich was a foot long with lots of meat, plenty of meat to cover the bread. The second go round was a small, but again plenty of meat on the sandwich. You bite and meat is falling off. My only complaint which is not much of a complaint is that I really could not taste cheese. The meat was seasoned really good so it made up for it. That was a fair turnaround. Take out only. Small waiting area inside. Can hold maybe 10-15 people. Kitchen is loud due to numerous kitchen staff. Subs aka hoagies are also available. Numerous large bags of potato chips available for purchase. Various sizes of cold sodas on offer. I have tried most of the top establishments in Philly over the years. It's in the upper echelon among the other Philly greats. We tried two large Cheese Steaks with different toppings for wife and I. Both were great. The large must be around 18 inches. The amount of meat they place on just the small sandwich is tremendous. It must have been 1/2 lb. The small here is like a medium or large back where I come from. Most customers take their orders to go. I chose to sit on one of the tables outside. It's a nice area, so there aren't a lot of people walking down the streets here, like you'd see in the city. After a day in the city we almost went the 20 minutes back to get a hoagie (is that Philly's hidden secret??) but instead headed north.
