What a great find! We stopped in while staying at a nearby rental property for the week. We've driven by it a few times, and after reading about it being a Yachats favorite, we thought we'd better try it. We were so glad we did! The first thing you notice when you walk inside is the gorgeous huge blue whale mural. It's humongous and done so well that it's mesmerizing. So cool! We loved it! The staff is super friendly, helpful, and attentive. After perusing the menu, we decided on the squid rings with fries and the halibut fish and chips with chowder instead of fries ($1.50 upgrade). The breaded halibut was outstanding! Love the tempura-like batter, and they had no grease whatsoever on the breading. I'm not sure how they do that?! It seemed like maybe they were baked, not fried?! I should have asked, but I was so focused on how good everything was, I forgot. The squid rings were really good with the homemade cocktail sauce. The chowder was good too. It had a smokey flavor. Our server was raving about the raspberry custard pie, so we had to share a piece. It was soooooo yummy! We had an awesome first visit! I was needing a hot breakfast and I adore a diner so I stopped into Leroy's to get my fix and was not disappointed!! I had a great experience- delicious French toast, cozy diner vibes with ocean views, and lovely, attentive staff! They have a large menu and breakfast is served until 2pm. I almost always want French toast - they didn't have a French toast "combo" so to speak so I built my own by adding an egg and sausage from their a la carte menu and it was just perfect and reasonably priced. Their French toast is flavorful and cooked perfectly. They have a nice syrup too. Their coffee is great as well and refills abundant. My server and everyone I encountered were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Can't beat the location- right off the 101 along a beautiful stretch of Oregon coast in one of my fave little towns - great to walk around as well. They have some parking to the side and also a dirt lot across the street. No doubt I'll be back this way again and will make another stop for some breakfast! read more

This place is so cute! Service was amazing and was seated quickly. Food on the other hand was good, but nothing stood out which is also fine. I got an omelette with biscuit and gravy and clam chowder. I absolutely love how the clam chowder came with a basket of crackers because I have never seen that before, but I love that homey touch to such a simple dish. I'm not sure why this location is listed as closed, as we just ate there on 4/9/25. The restaurant is only open until 2pm, which may have something to do with it. We've been vacationing in Yachats for years, and LeRoy's is the best breakfast and lunch spot in town. The waitress greeted us with a smile upon walking in the door, and had us seated without delay. She was quick to check in with us multiple times during our visit, and made sure everything went well. The menu is fairly extensive, and we usually go for the breakfast side of it. The berry pancakes are always a hit, though I like the French toast, and their house made biscuits. My dad enjoyed their biscuits and gravy, and they had gluten-free hamburger buns so my wife could enjoy a burger. The homemade desserts are also a point of pride for the restaurant. The layout is very open and brightly lit, with a cheerful diner feel to it. The walls are always a point of interest, with the giant mural of the blue whale. The halibut is amazing! Tempura batter bathes this delectable fish in a thin crust that's fried to a golden glow. The halibut is tender, meaty, and very hot even down to the last bite. It comes with homemade tartar sauce which is quite tasty and pairs well with the fish. In place of fries, I opted for the Chef's Special Soup, German Potato with Sausage. Talk about interesting and mouth watering flavors, this soup is homemade at the restaurant! I didn't care for the coleslaw which Carrie the server said it was a cross between bland and sweet. I couldn't detect any sweetness at all. For dessert, I tried the Caramel Apple Pie. The apples were sweet and very soft and I could tell it was homemade because the apples didn't taste like they came from a can. The atmosphere was quiet and we had come in near closing time. They served us anyway. This was our first visit to Yachats. I plan on coming back and trying breakfast at Leroy's Blue Whale as I heard it is phenomenal! read more

This spot was recommended to us as a good local "greasy spoon". It's definitely diner vibes. Friendly service. I ordered the oyster omelette (had oysters from the bay) - was tasty and had a lot of oysters in it. Hash browns were nice and crispy. I got a coffee -- was fine, typical diner coffee. Couldn't find a negative in any way here. You walk into a comfortable atmosphere, greeted with gorgeous sea-life murals on the wall and way friendly staff. Seating is pleasant. The meals are beyond belief, the portions are awesome, which makes the prices fair and reasonable. We enjoyed the "Aloha" and "Three-Alarm" burgers with coleslaw and fries. One simply can-not drool enough as you are introduced to these creations. We MOST certainly look forward to visiting Yachats and LeRoy's again. read more

We stopped here a while back on our way home from staying in Waldport with our adult kids, and our new Grandson at a beach house. It ended up being just one of our Sons who stopped to enjoy a meal with us. This was his first time here, and had been a while for us. Honestly can't remember what I have had in the past. I think breakfast maybe. This time all 3 of us decided on the fish n chips. My Son, and I ordered the halibut ones, and the hubs ordered the cod fish n chips. Those two had the clam chowder with their meal. It would have been too much for me, and I don't do well with clam chowder after a bad experience from Mo's years ago. The place was packed, because it was a Sunday. We were seated right away. We actually didn't have too long of a wait on our food. I did have a bite of the clam chowder. It was actually really good. The fish n chips were really delicious as well. I tried a bite of the cod ones too. I would order either ones, but prefer the halibut. My Son really liked his halibut fish n chips. I don't remember who waited on us, but who ever it was made our time there enjoyable. Like a Mom, and Pop joint. Will be back when in the area. read more

My wife decided we'd have breakfast here during a spontaneous overnight visit to Yachats. We found a fairly large, clean space with high ceilings and a very unique wall-to-wall whale-orientated mural. It was very pleasing to view. The food was mediocre as was the menu -no surprises. It is pretty typical of food one can expect in a diner, which this place most certainly is. Serving sizes were adequate. Service was good, though we had to ask for water. Our waitress was personable, pleasant, and energetic. Some reviewers have noted that a tax was imposed on their meal and I can attest to it's veracity. I did ask about it and was told the city decided to impose a 5% tax on all prepared food as a means to fund a new and/or upgraded sewer system. It was either that or increase property taxes. Yachats is a very nice town, just don't be surprised when your meals (or any prepared food you might buy in a store) are taxed at 5%. And remember - it isn't your server's fault so please be fair and don't penalize them. Now that I have experienced Yachats, I would definitely try some of the other restaurants before going back to LeRoy's Blue Whale. That said, I wouldn't completely rule it out either. read more

Went there for the first time today. I was in the mood for chicken fried steak. The one I had at a competitor's down the street was largely disappointing so I was hoping for better. This one was a little better due to better sausage gravy. But the chicken fried steak itself was the same. Bland and kind of tough. The eggs were good and perfectly cooked. The side of pancakes were very good but really unnecessary due to the size of the main breakfast portion. Mind, that is not really a criticism from me as I rarely gush over food. I was happy with what I got. The complaints I read on here about this restaurant seem to mostly fall into the categories of people expecting too much. Great experience and great food. We ordered the fish sandwich and the BLTSS. The BLTSS was good, but the fish sandwich was terrific - it's basically two big pieces of fish (the kind you'd get for a fish & chips), in between two pieces of bread and tartar sauce. The fish was not oily or greasy at all, and although the sandwich was really messy to eat, with fish and tartar sauce everywhere on my face, it was delicious. Would 100% get this again. Also got a cup of clam chowder with this, and it was just my type - thick and creamy. Some clam chowders are a little more thin and watery (which aren't bad), but I prefer the thick type - and the one here is pretty darn delicious. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and the food came out quick, even though it seemed like they were short-staffed. Considering our meal here was about 1/2 the price of our meal at Ona, I think I would actually prefer this place, since even though the food we had at Ona was a little better - it wasn't doubly better. We will probably come back to Yachats again in the future and will make it a point to come back here. I'll try out other things on the menu, but knowing me, I'll probably just get the fish sandwich again once we're actually there. read more

Breakfasted here this morning. Had a half order of biscuits and gravy competently done, the gravy and biscuits lighter and fluffier than in other establishments I patronize. Waitstaff were on the ball, civil without being phony; our food came out quickly, and we didn't have to hunt up our waitress for the bill. Place is very clean and window views are extensive and nice. Prices were surprisingly economical, especially compared with two other venues we patronized during our stay. Would come again, any time. read more

My daughter and I recently traveled through Yachats, and stumbled upon this restaurant. My girl has Celiac and therefore can't have any gluten. It was great to see they offered GF hamburger buns, which she was very happy with and enjoyed her burger. I tried the chili burger. Very filing and good portion. Was hoping for homemade chili, but it was canned. Which was fine, I mean this is a place you go to for fine dining. The service was excellent... like really excellent. Think Bill & Ted saying "excellent" and that's the kind of service we had. Our server was on top of everything, and made she my daughter was happy with her food. They are open during covid, and we placed a takeout order for lunch. We got the fish and chips, clam chowder, and a slice of chocolate cream pie. They even offered us takeout bowls of water for the dogs! I was very impressed with how friendly the staff was to us, and how quickly our food was ready. The fish and chips were SO yummy and had a delicious batter. My husband thought the clam chowder was "woah-so good" from the first bite. The chocolate cream pie was rich and decadent and so big I had to save it for a snack later. I would definitely stop here again! read more

While visiting the Oregon Coast on a road trip, I stopped in at the Blue Whale with my family. Considering fish and chips are a good go-to meal when near the ocean, the whole table ordered it around. Some had the Halibut and chips and others chose the Cod and chips. I also ordered a cup of the clam chowder. Our entire meal was delicious, and the service was prompt and personable. My teenage son is a very picky eater. He tasted my chowder and asked to order his own (that never happens). He ate it all in addition to his cod and chips. He also commented that it was the best fish and chips he had ever had which says something, because again he's a picky eater, and also we travel quite a bit and he has eaten fish and chips in many places. He was so impressed that he wanted to eat there again the next day for breakfast. Our breakfast was delicious, the service was exceptional and the value for the money was amazing. Friday 11;30am, trying to find a good late breakfast in Yachats. We tried two other restaurants first. One had a full house with a sign on door to warn us they were short staffed and to be patient. We are hungry so headed across the street to another breakfast spot. Loud, packed and after seated for 10 minutes with no menu and obvious many others were not yet served, we decided to walk 5 minutes north to the Blue whale. Here we had a filling, perfect breakfast experience. Easy parking-big lot. Seated immediately, Clean, nice ambiance, bright, large windows facing street, big booths, great service, fast & excellent food. My partner got the salmon omelet which he loved and I tasted and it was incredible. I had eggs hashbrowns and oatmeal. All were cooked perfectly and the oatmeal was old fashioned and slow cooked, high quality. Even our side of fruit always a nice variety and all fresh . We had 3 coffee refills and like I said an attentive and sweet waitress. And it didn't cost a lot. Under 40 for the 2 of us. We were surprised not many others here but I think if they put a banner on their street sign that says "breakfast til 2." They will get more business since the restaurant sort of looks more like a dinner spot from the outside. We HIGHLY recommend this place. read more

I meant to post this back in June but at least I found the beginning of it in my drafts: As soon as I walked in @3:02 they yelled "we're closed" although Yelp says their accurate hours, google does not, and that is a primary source for most to use. I waited to ask what their hours were and the waitress was very rude. I've never stayed in Yachats before and I did not know how early things close apparently? I'm not sure. I'll probably never be back to visit this establishment, and don't even wanna come back to this area after a few other terrible customer service encounters. Remember everyone: Kindness and patience goes a long way. Take into account you work in customer service occupations, and you're not going to keep or gain any by making people feel unwelcomed and unwanted. I hope you're able to learn that eventually so your business may flourish, and not fall- especially in a town that does not have many restaurants to begin with. read more

Okay where do I even start - this is my new FAVOURITE restaurant The hostess greeted us warmly and our server Casey was absolutely wonderful. She was prompt and anticipatory of our needs, and friendly to boot. The food and prices were great and came out quickly, with perfect portion sizes. I fancy myself a pie connoisseur and I was MIGHTILY impressed with their pie selection. The decor and nautical mural is adorable too.
