Stopped by Levain on a whim after having dinner nearby. There is a lot of buzz and hype surrounding this new chain being in Chicago. I love a sweet treat after dinner and thought that this would be worth the trip. There isn't anything wrong about the cookies that they have, but can I really justify paying $13 for 2 chocolate chip cookies? I thought they would be warm and gooey at the very least, and they just weren't up to par. This location is very small and not meant to serve as a place to hang out and eat an expensive cookie. The seating that they do have is in an awkward spot as it's right near where the employees come in and out of the back. I think that if you're going to pay for above average cookies, then try another chain where you can at least grab a few more cookies for the price. read more

I have been to the NYC, Boston, and Washington DC locations and can honestly say they have the best cookies. The service is great every employee is always very nice! I first had cookies from Levain Bakery when my sister brought home a box. There were five different cookies inside: dark chocolate chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, dark chocolate peanut butter chip, chocolate chip walnut, and two-chip chocolate chip. Every cookie was fresh, warm, and delicious. Our favorite was the chocolate chip walnut, though. They are something special! The only thing I'd change is that I'd put MORE walnuts in the chocolate chip walnut cookies. The chocolate chip peanut butter are my second favorite. We liked the cookies so much that we've since had them delivered via Uber Eats, which is something we normally wouldn't do. Who orders cookies via a delivery app? That's insane to me, but Levain cookies are worth it! I hope Levain Cookie will open new locations so they'll be more accessible to city residents. These cookies are my all time favorite cookies. It's kinda simple really, not too many complex ingredients or frostings/toppings. I love their caramel chocolate chip cookie, it's my weakness. I enjoy this location because there are so many places to enjoy dinner around and once done, Levain is an easy walk. The shop is small but they have indoor and outdoor seating, not a lot but enough. I went with the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip cookie and it was everything I imagined it would be. I have been dying to try Levain cookies forever, but I don't get downtown very often. So I was overjoyed to finally visit Levain in the West Loop. First of all, the storefront is adorable. Just very inviting! Then you walk inside, and you are met with the most delicious smells. There they were in the glass cases... THE famous Levain cookies. OMG. They are huge...and they look amazing. I order the chocolate chip walnut, the two chip, the caramel coconut chip, the oatmeal raisin, and the lemon (which I believe is seasonal.). They also have other baked goods, including rolls, baguettes with jam and butter, and some cakes. They also sell coffee, lattes, cappuccino, etc. I can't be more specific, because I was so laser focused on the cookies. The cookies are even better than I had hoped. Thick, soft, and generously filled with the promised ingredients. Unlike some other popular cookie places, these cookies are not raw/undercooked in the middle. They are cooked to perfection...not raw, not dried out...I mean total perfection. The young man who took care of us was very pleasant. I am told that there are often long lines, but it was Monday night @ 7:30 pm, and there were only two people ahead of us, and two people behind us. That being said, the employees worked quickly and efficiently, so I would imagine they excel at moving people through the line fairly quickly. It makes me so sad that Levain has no suburban locations, and hence my visits will be few and far between. Hey Levain...there are lots of cookie lovers in the Chicago suburbs...hint hint. Levain cookies are always top notch. This was my first time in this particular location. It's super cute and the employee who helped me was really kind and sweet. I had to wait about 10 minutes for the cookies I wanted but that was okay - it meant I got a fresh one! The cookies were good, but I guess I just don't personally prefer a huge thick cookie. The sour cream coffee cake was my favorite thing- this had a lot of flavor.
