We drove over an hour in Atlanta traffic to eat at Lewis Barbecue, and it was 100% worth it. We're serious barbecue fans, and we almost never leave reviews but this experience deserved one. From the moment we walked in to the Lewis bar, the hospitality stood out. Colin was genuinely engaged and passionate making sure we had a great time. He was present, welcoming, and clearly cares about both the food and the people. You can feel that leadership in how smoothly everything runs. We rolled into the bar around 3:00. The bar staff were equally outstanding specifically Brandon and Nick. Friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to be there, they took great care of us without hovering and were clearly proud of what they were serving. That kind of service makes a difference. And the frozen margaritas were the surprise of the day...so darn good! As for the food, the brisket and the mac & cheese were the clear highlights. The brisket was exactly what great barbecue should be perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and done right. One of the best we've had. The mac & cheese was rich, balanced, and memorable in its own right. We also had the fries, collards and sausage links, which were also amazing. Together, they sealed it for us. Wow second time and second review. I have eaten at least 25 bbq restaurants in Atlanta and I have to say this is the best. Wanted to go on Sunday for the chicken fried steak. We did have to wait 35 mins because of kitchen mishaps, but it was fantastic. Definitely for 2 people. The ribs were glistening, beef succulent and the stewed green beans were fantastic. Mac and cheese was just ok. Service is fantastic and the workers actually look like they like working there. Gee what a concept. 25 minute wait went by fast. The food was okay. Not horrible. I would go back if I was walking the BeltLine or got invited by a group to go but would not go out of my way to go. Food was a little pricey for what you got. There are definitely better BBQ places you can go to nearby (Fox Bros, Das, Community). Did not care for the cafeteria style line you go through. It was a little confusing and intimidating. Also did not like everything sort of being plopped onto a tray with a paper liner. Turkey was good. Brisket was just okay. Mac and cheese was their best. Corn pudding, coleslaw...just okay. Wow!!! The barbecue is excellent and every one of the sides is the same. The pulled pork sandwich is a winner. I can't pick a favorite side but their mac & cheese is next level. Potato salad was great, and someone commented that the coleslaw was a little bit light, but I found that appealing given the richness of the other food. Service was outstanding. Sitting outside at Lewis BBQ, looking at the beautiful view overlooking the creek and the blue bridge to the Belt Line, enjoying a delicious barbecue lunch! We had huge perfectly cooked ribs, smoked turkey and to die for brisket! I love the bark on the brisket! We tried all of the sides and our favorites were the green beans, potato salad, Cole slaw, collard greens, Mac n cheese and corn pudding! Love the home made pickles and picked onions! The raspberry lemon pie was so refreshing and the perfect way to finish our dining experience! Absolutely delicious and the staff are also so friendly! Located just off the Belt line and around the corner from Piedmont Park. It took us a while to figure out that it is located between the buildings in the back of Publix shopping Center. First time visiting. The guy in front of us suggested we try the corn (excellent choice). We ordered ribs, brisket, and both cheese and spicy sausages. For sides we had the collards, Mac and cheese, and cowboy beans. Everything was good! Closest thing we've had to Texas style bbq in GA. Expensive and not all that good. While they do give you a decent amount of food, most of what we ate was mediocre at best. My companion said the brisket - that you pay for by the pound - was dry. The El Sancho sandwich was OK but I wouldn't go back for it. The collard greens were way too sweet. The corn pudding was unremarkable as was the potato salad. The slaw was fair but at least it was not sweet. The pickles were not good. Did not like the flavor at all. All of it could have used more flavor and adding sauce is not the answer. Food is served in paper containers on a paper-lined tray and you have to go to one of the side stations for a paper plate, which was sturdy. For the $57 we spent on lunch for two, we could have done much better elsewhere. A friend went the other day and spent $32 on the same sandwich I had with fries and a Coke. Just those three items. He would not go back. This place can't hold a candle to the now closed Anna's BBQ in Kirkwood. Anna's food - all of it - was exceptional - as was their hospitality. Lewis BBQ offers a novel approach in food service but can't understand those on here swooning over the food. There are many better places for a meal. read more

This review is based strictly on the Sunday special in the Sunday special is based on the quality between the Atlanta location in the Greenville location. I am a huge fan of this barbecue company/owner and regularly would drive two hours to Greenville, South Carolina to indulge in chicken fried steak and various other barbecue. This location is drastically different and for two weeks in a row now has just completely missed the mark.. I've yet to get a chicken fried steak that was anywhere near the quality and taste level of the location in Greenville and the first week. I assumed it was opening weekend. They were busy and trying to work the kinks out. It was a line when I arrived however, this week I arrived there was no line outside a small line inside and I gave it a second chance and I have to say I will continue to support this place but I will not support it on Sundays. I will just make the drive to Greenville if I'm looking for chicken fried steak. The chicken fried steak was not cooked properly the breading separated and was not crispy from the stake very easily and was mushy. The gravy lacked any type of flavor and was vastly different than the reason I go to Greenville, which is the gravy the potatoes were extremely watery and also lacked any type of seasoning salt creamer, butter even I didn't notice and it was just a stark contrast to what I have known and loved with the Greenville location. I have not tried the barbecue since opening weekend, but I will be back to try the barbecue the sides were fine but again I was going there for the chicken fried steak so I know they did a vast amount of training on the barbecue but I feel like maybe they miss they're missing the mark on the specials which makes this place so unique. read more

The serving line is unorganized and the servers are long on an over-zealous enthusiasm but, short on familiarity of how to manage the order and you as you go down the line. The brisket is tasty but, the order they gave me was about 50% fat! I asked specifically for a leaner cut of brisket that they supposedly can cater to upon request but, when it came to serving me up the guy darted to the other carving station and came back with five slices of mostly fat. They're long on TOUT but short of delivery. Seems over priced. Maybe they'll get their act together with time but, right now, I'd avoid and the value is definitely not there!
