One of the best ice cream chains in Texas has to easily be Lick. I first tried Lick at their South Lamar location after seeing a movie at the Alamo next door and immediately became a fan. I would stop by a few times to get some ice cream after a movie or to treat my girlfriend when she would fall in love with their Roasted Beets & Fresh Mint ice cream. While visiting San Antonio, we made sure to make a stop at their location at The RIM to get our fix. It is a small stand alone shop with plenty of outdoor seating for a nice day. There was only one guy working but he was moving through customers without a problem. I think Lick has some of the freshest and most flavorful waffle cones out of any parlor around and it was the same here. I got a scoop of the Dark Chocolate, Olive Oil & Sea Salt as well as a scoop of their Hill Country Honey & Vanilla Bean. The flavors are a little more interesting than your typical ice cream shop with some having goat cheese, beets, and more, but they all seem to really work and the flavors have always impressed me. Oh my gosh!! If you like interesting flavor ice creams then heck yes you need to try this place. Don't go there expecting chocolate and vanilla. The combinations they come up with are very interesting but so yummy. They offer seasonal flavors and dairy free (which the coconut is dairy free and had a bunch of coconut in it). We decided to just take it to the truck and eat there. That cost them one star. We each got the cup with three scoops. My wife tried the Dark Chocolate, Olive Oil & Sea Salt, Fresh Mint & Chocolate Chunk, and Texas Sheet Cake. She ate them with a vanilla waffle cone like chips and dip. It was obvious that she was enjoying them. I think her favorite was the Texas Sheet Cake. What a crock...of anemic tasteless ice cream. I tried to find the butter fat content but was unable to. It cannot be very high as this is anything but a rich quality ice cream. They have a bunch of stupid-named ice cream flavors which means nothing. Three of us ordered 1) peach margarita. 2) goat cheese. 3) cheesecake flavor. Oh, and by the way, the peach margarita ice cream contained Dulce Vida Blanco Tequila ??? This appears to be nothing more than dumb sensational advertising. Not only do you have to buy the ice cream cone so there is nothing cheap here. All three of us with our three flavors noticed they all were colored exactly the same, a slightly tinted yellowish color. However, you don't eat color, do you? So we tasted each other's ice cream and there was absolutely no difference in taste or flavor. They all were cold, sweet and wet... and, obviously very low butter fat content. On a busy Saturday afternoon at the rim, with their store being right near packed restaurants, their store was not the least bit busy.
