Thin crust that is very flavorful, good sauce, not too much cheese, just enough, not that deep dish stuff that midwestern people think is pizza but is something else entirely. When I first moved here, you could not get the real deal, it was disappointing. Then the grandson of Regina's Pizza in the north End opened up the Pizza Connection is Canoga Park and it was really good. He opened a bunch of other locations but over time, not sure why, the pizza just wasn't as good. My child Emily Asher Kellis disagrees, still loves it, but she was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, so what does she really know about pizza. After trying a bunch of different "New York City" pizza joints that were just ok, we found Santino's NY Pizza in Sherman Oaks and were very happy with it, authentic East Coast pizza. Well last week I discovered they went out of business. Oh no, what were we going to do? So I researched and found there was a place in Sherman Oaks called The Pizza Wagon of Brooklyn, only two locations, here and in Brooklyn and people said it was the real deal. Tonight we tried it, and you know what, it might just be even better. Santino's sauce had a slight sweetness to it that we liked that this doesn't but the sauce is good, and the crust is even more flavorful and they are a bit more liberal with the olive oil usage, which true East Coasters love while I am told that most health conscious Southern Californians do not. Anyway, we are quite happy that we can continue to get our pizza craving satisfied when we just gotta have some slices.

There's always space for shops like this that keep things simple and stay in their lane. Today I tried a slice of their Eggplant and one of their Pesto. The eggplant was good, but the Pesto was great. The eggplant needed a bit more flavor, whereas the pesto was rich and paired perfectly with the ricotta. The staff here is awesome. They're always ready to help and since it's a small space inside, they'll keep to themselves if you eat in there. If the weather is good, I prefer to eat out front. Despite the busy street, it's surprisingly peaceful with a slice in hand. Pizza Wagon of Brooklyn is a great option if you're close by and looking for a solid, cheap slice!

I have to say, while the excitement around Mulberry may have diminished after so many years, and after the arrival of so many other places now doing what once was only being done by Mulberry, the quality of their food has remained first-rate, and they continue to top the list of places serving slices in this city. The proof: with Joe's pizza just steps away, Mulberry had far more people eating there at Friday lunchtime, and their pizza was much fresher (the pies at Joe's always seem to have been sitting for quite some time). This is another place that my family has gone to since my mom was a kid. It is one of those rare old-fashioned Italian restaurants that has been around for at least 50 years because it serves consistently delicious, comforting, food. There is something about the flavor of their pizza that you can only get there and it is amazing. (Example: If you were blindfolded and taken to a McDonald's restaurant, you would know exactly where you were because every McDonald's smells exactly the same, and only McDonald's smells that way) I could taste 100 different pizzas but I would immediately be able to pick out which one was a Lido's pizza because it has.....I don't know what it is but it has a certain flavor. So many people that I know feel exactly the same way about this place. If you come at an off time it is easy to get a table otherwise, there can be a bit of a wait, although it is usually not an unreasonable one. By the way, they have had the same giant red booths lined up against the wall since my mom was a kid. They are consistent, Thank God! It is kind of fun to watch the guy toss your pizza through the glass. The neighborhood can be a little offputting. On quite a few occasions either a drug addict or a crazy person has approached either me or my family and harassed us, try to park in either the front or the back parking lot. It is for this reason, and only this reason that I am deducting one star. Still, those issues have never kept me or my family away, we just accept it as part of the experience. read more

If you're anywhere near Van Nuys and craving great pizza, you have to stop by Lido's Pizza on Victory. This place has been a neighborhood staple for years, and it's easy to see why. We had the pizza and their Antipasto salad, and both were absolutely scrumptious. The pizza was hot, fresh, and loaded with flavor. You can tell they've perfected their recipe over time. The Antipasto salad was just as impressive, crisp and generous with toppings, and a perfect match for the pizza. The vibe inside is comfy and cozy. It feels like a true local spot where families and friends have been gathering for decades. Everything was clean and well kept, which always makes the experience even better. Our waiter, Luis, really stood out. He was kind, attentive, and worked hard the entire time we were there. You could tell he genuinely cared about doing a great job and making sure we had everything we needed. BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN VAN NUYS! First off, parking is pretty tight most of the time. However, Lido now does curbside pickup which is great because I order to go on Sunday's. The food is beyond amazing! I can't stress enough how amazing their whole menu is from the custom pizzas to the subs to the pastas....all of them are fantastic! I order for pickup on Sunday's now and either the same guy or girl take my order. At this point I'm sure they've memorized my order of Meat Ravioli with Alfredo Sauce and Small Antipasto Salad. They are always very polite, curious, attentive and always get my order exactly correct! Those two are the best overall because even when u pick up my order they add extra anything as soon as I ask for it! Thanks guys!!! I've been coming to Lido Pizza since I was a kid. My uncle used to take me on special occasions and we'd split a Meatball Sub. Getting hungry just thinking about it. I have only been coming here for about a year an wanted to make sure I had the names of the FANTASTIC servers before writing the review. John, Ray, Andy, Veronica and I think the hostess is Natalia? Hope I didn't forget anyone cause really... they are all just the types to go above and beyond. For anyone who wants to taste heaven order the Margharita pizza. Absolutely amazing. Dinner salad is very nice, pasta is to die for. My son tells me the roast beef sandwich with the au jus is fantastic. My only complaint and it really isn't one but can be difficult finding parking at times. There are days when I have shown up right at noon and already the whole place is jammed. Terrific service, great prices... my favorite. Oh and yes to the gelato... it is exceptional. GREAT service. Truly, truly old school. I'm talking red wallpaper and red leather booths old school. The food never disappoints, as long as you know you're going to get into a big heavy dish of spaghetti or ravioli, and a killer slice of cheesy, crispy pizza. The pizza was what drew me to Lido many years ago. It's really some of the best in Los Angeles, but beware -- stick with the plain cheese, as the pizza with toppings can be a bit "over-cheesed." If you must have a topping, I'd recommend asking the kitchen to go a little easy on the cheese. You will be rewarded with a delicious, perfect pie, that's certainly the best in Van Nuys (if not the whole valley!). If you're ready for some serious Italian comfort food, head over to Lido. I've been coming here for a while. I've had the pizza before. That was delicious, other times I've had the lasagna. That is delicious. Today I, decided to try the Alfredo. I think I should have stuck to the pizza. I don't know if it can be called Alfredo sauce. It was more like a flavorless white liquid of a soup. Literally, it was drenched in this sauce. To bad it had no flavor, cause I thing they didn't add enough cheese or cream. My recommendations is stay away from the Alfredo. Everything else is aces. The service kind of sucked this time too. So my friends take me to try this local pizza joint... The place isn't anything special but I was willing to give it a try. We wanted to add banana peppers to our pizza and the waiter just said no.. I asked do you have banana peppers and he said yes.. I asked why wouldn't you just put em on for me??? He went to ask the manager and came back and said no.. I do not get what the big deal is... I can not imagine any other pizza parlor not adding a simple topping that they had there anyways. On top of that they had some of the worse pasta I have ever had. From the outside, this place looks like your ordinary pizzeria. Yet, take one step inside and you're suddenly out of van nuys and into a nice italian restaurant in the heart of Italy! This has been a family favorite since I was a little kid. Now, as an adult, one of my favorite restaurants in the san fernando valley has turned into a date night restaurant. The lights are dim and the food is served quite nice in their dishes, all to give you and your date, a nice enjoyable evening with amazing food and environment. The food here is amazing!!! Let's start with the pizza. They do not skimp on toppings here and any topping you pick is delicious!!! I personally love to add the fried jalapenos to any pizza I order. YUM! The lasagna is the best I have had anywhere in the valley. The antipasto salad is packed with fresh mozzarella, garbanzo beans, pepperoni, salami and all the ingredients. After hearing over and over about this place, we decided to try it. I called in a pizza with extra sauce, and light on the cheese. I drive across the valley with it. Open it up and find extra chees and hardly any sauce!! Not only that, the dough was undercooked. Utterly DISGUSTING. WORST PIZZA EVER!!! Please don't order the meat balls with your pasta or spaghetti. They charge $2.50 for ONE meatball! I ended up paying $5.00 for TWO meatballs and the waiter didn't even warn me when I placed the order! I always have issues picking the lasagna or the pizza. They are foods I dream about. We hit up this place for date night, birthday events, and even did a valentines one year. It's located at a mini strip mall and as soon as I pulled in the parking lot, there were about 5 cars literally crawling to wait for someone to leave on such a tiny strip mall. Pizzas: I got two kinds, one regular crust and one thin crust. Both were over cooked. I expected the bread crust to be softer, especially the thin crust. But I guess I should lower my expectation next time. The sauces on both pizzas were skimpy so the pizzas were allost dry. I think the flavor is there, although the overcooked bread crust overpowered whatever the sauce was trying to add to the flavor. The garlic Parmesan bread was also over cooked and it's a bit dry. The chickenwings, well, I've never seen chicken wing that small. Despite the size, it was satisfactory. My overall experience will have to be less than average. Although leaving 2 stars seems a little harsh and I do believe there's room for improvement so I'll give it an extra star and maybe communicate how I'd like for the bread to be cooked in the future.

Winzza Pizza was easy to find located in a small plaza with ample amount of parking spots. We parked right infront. As soon as we walked in Winzza Pizza we were greeted. We informed the person at the counter that we ordered online for pick up. We arrived just in time as he was about to take our pizza out of the oven. Winzza Pizza was perfect. The crust was just right not too thick and not too thin. Also it was baked with the right temperature. Our custom made pizza had pepperoni, chicken, mushrooms and cheese. We can't wait to come back and try other pizzas on Winzza's menu.

They ran out of meat a couple of times throughout the night. To their credit, they were able to recover by bringing more meat to the festival. After all that anticipation, the chicken itself was flavorful, but sadly on the dry side. Since this was a festival setup, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe their regular restaurant experience is a different story. Unfortunately, the food at the fest didn't wow me and, if anything, may have underrepresented what they're capable of. Based on this tasting alone, I don't feel compelled to make a special trip to their restaurant, but I'm glad I gave them a try.

We locked eyes in a way that could have been like an early 00's horror flick/rom-com, there was an extended pause, then both of us launched out of our seats, and raced to our respective restrooms where we proceeded to perform dual exorcisms and cast out the evil within. The only thing that was missing was an old priest and a young priest. On a more serious note, I ordered spaghetti bolognese and my BF got ravioli with pomodoro sauce. The taste was lackluster and a bit odd... we couldn't quite put our finger on it... the spaghetti was too tangy... almost like vinegar? The noodles were al dente, which is amazing when done correctly, but these noodles were incredibly hard and also SQUARE, which was new for me. I did not try my BF's ravioli and I'm sure I don't need to explain why. We also got mozzarella sticks that tasted like freezer burn, and the cheese was not melted inside at all. We probably would have tried to reheat the mozzarella sticks in our oven, as we both hate to see food go to waste, but why punish ourselves? We will say that the tiramisu was absolutely perfect 10/10 - SHOCKING - and we wish we would have ordered two pieces or maybe four and just had tiramisu for dinner!! I really dislike giving bad reviews, and we wish we could have enjoyed the meal, but it's very rare for us to get food poisoning. If we ever go back for a second chance, we will only be ordering the tiramisu.

I'm sorry to say those bad reviews are very correct. The Aglio e Olio spaghetti was so chewy and undersalted as to be inedible. We just threw it out. The meatballs were bland and the garlic knots were just bread, no garlic to be found. Overall we were incredibly disappointed with this meal.
