My friends and I eat there often and I was surprised to see that they have upped the cost of any pork products because of some humane treatment issue about pork. I would like to give the Lighthouse Cafe 3.5 stars, only because I wasn't too amuse by the fakeness of our waitress. Fake smile, and gave attitude when my friend asked for a glass of milk for her 3yr old daughter while we waited in line. You can tell she was tired but please do not take it out on customers. On to the next moment, so much delicious food on the menu; and a lot of patrons. My running team was starving so our eyes were hungry. What did we order? Crab&lobster melt with coleslaw-Tons of crab but barely no lobster, but cooked to perfection on a sourdough bread Homemade Cornbeef omelet with breakfast potatoes-Innovated flavors and quite different from others. This is not only a cute restaurant but the food was great. I got the standard bacon, eggs and country potatoes and they were very good. Generous portion, too. Worst service we have experienced in a long time. I ordered poached eggs and a side of bagel and cream cheese. The bagel arrived burnt and cold. By the time it was replaced, my poached eggs were cold. My husband had to ask twice for the toast to accompany his omelette. After my husband finished his latte, he requested a refill of black coffee only to be told they only offer refills for coffee orders (not latte). He explained he only wanted black coffee, not another latte. In a huff, our waiter finally refilled his cup with coffee. When the bill came, there was an extra charge for the refill! There are plenty of other breakfast places who work hard to keep repeat business. This is not one. read more

Came up to San Francisco for a quick pleasure trip with my Mom and Aunt last weekend, and had the idea to drive up to Napa for a wine tasting during the afternoon. We had a later morning start that morning (coming from Pacifica/Daly City), and by the time we were in the area, we felt like having something to eat. It was not quite breakfast time anymore, but we were not too ready for lunch. Brunch sounded perfect! So I pulled out my Yelp app, and searched for brunch spots around the area. Luckily we found Lighthouse Cafe, which wasn't too far off from our path toward Napa. The ratings and photos of the food looked wonderful, so I navigated us to the restaurant. The gorgeous trees, grass, and calm streets in the neighborhood were a nice change of pace from all the highways we've spent hours on during the trip thus far. When we got in, we were told we could seat ourselves, so I stole a booth-side table for the three of us. We immediately ordered some coffee for the table, and it was fresh and hot! The menu was full of amazing options, and I almost had no idea what to choose without accidentally ordering too much. I ended up getting the lox bagels with cream cheese, capers, onions and tomatoes (no onions though, please!). I did also want to embrace the morning fare and ordered a side of eggs, scrambled. I fail to remember what my Mom and Aunt ordered, but all we know is that we were very satisfied, and that our server was very attentive and sweet, even as she seemed to be the only one serving at the time. As we left, our server thanked us and said "See you next time!" All I could remember is that I thought to myself, "We're probably not going to be in the area again for a very long time, so I really hope there is a next time!" Despite the price bump on bacon dishes, their bacon was very fatty, the ingredients in the omelette were just thrown in (large lumps of avocado, cheese clumped in a corner) with everything rather greasy. The hash brown, which used to be so good, had a bitter herb in it that made it unpleasant for me. Their omelettes used to be more refined and cooked with care, but what I had today was just slopped together. So disappointing. I will not go back. read more

The omelette was over cooked and the vegetables were in large chunks and not cooked into the egg. The hash browns were very good and the toast was crunchy and fresh. The portion on this dish was very large. The pancake was rubbery but had good flavor. The bacon was crispy and delicious. The portion on this as large as well. The facility was very clean and the staff was fast and efficient . I will give these guys another go and look forward to trying their lunch menu. The food in the photos look amazing. Breakfast isn't as easy as it might seem-so you shouldn't rush the basic meals. Looking forward to my next visit. read more

Disappointing. Used to be a good spot for a selection of Danish food. Now that the place has been remodeled, we expected at least the same level of food and service that we used to enjoy here. Alas, the plate that was a combination of roast beef and Danish meatballs was a disaster! None of it was fresh; the potato salad (which used to be excellent) was entirely bland and tasted as though it had been sitting in a too-cold refrigerator for way too long. The 'roast beef' was also far from fresh, and the meatballs just weren't tasty. Worse, the service was poor. The place was nearly empty (only three other tables were occupied), but the lone server still had his hands full, and just wasn't able to get to every diner in a reasonable time. Perhaps that was just as well, because the kitchen was also slow -- it took forever to get our food into the server's hands. One other minus - the Lighthouse serves excellent Danish rye bread with this plate -- but what used to be two (or three) slices is now down to one. I'd rather see them charge another 50 cents and at least give a decent serving of bread with the meal. Finally, since it's not likely we'll be dining there again, I'll mention an oddity in the remodel -- the bench seating would not be particularly comfortable at best, but with a board sticking out just where the back comes in contact with the it -- this bench is almost torture. At the very least, the Lighthouse should invest in some kind of cushion. read more

Wish it was a 5 star review. Food was great but the staff cut is off on mimosas after a couple. Not cool when I had a large group that all got food and drinks. Our server Alisha was great but the rest of staff was not helpful! Going to the Sausalito location instead. The assistant manager SARAH was rather rude accusing my group of using profanity which led to us not being served further. My first and last time here for an older women getting upset for my group enjoying ourself a during a period the business was not busy. Nice place to stop in for breakfast or lunch. It was quiet and slow service was OK and the food was good not the best but huge servings can't go hungry here. The avocado bacon jack cheddar omelette it was very good the sourdough bread was not as good as some other places. Their service was OK considering there is only two other tables there I would've thought she would've been more attentive to us. 4.5 - Found this cafe with a Danish touch and went for a brunch on my way to Marshall, CA. Arrived around 12:30 and this place was busy. Ordered the smoked salmon with creamy spinach. It came with the Danish style pumpernickel bread and butter, then I can eat like an open sandwiches with the salmon. The meatball was juicy inside while staying crispy on the outside. The house mayo was on the sweet side but it went really well with the meatball! It's good to be at a brunch place where I can try some Danish food. read more

Checked this place out for breakfast and I really liked They have a little Danish /European frickadelle meatballs which my fiancée loved! I tasted them and they were really good, the season was pretty tasty! The restaurant is rather small but they have counter seating and counter seating facing a tv. If you come around 11:00am and your a party of four be prepared to wait a bit. But, if you are two people in your party you are sure to get a seat! I ordered the usual eggs and sausage with the Mickey Mouse pancake and a hot chocolate. It was all good but how can you go wrong with a simple breakfast like that. The Mickey Mouse pancake was bigger than I thought, they made a Mickey Mouse face out of pancakes. You get a big one with bananas, blueberries & raspberries for the face with two little pancakes for the ears. You can definitely share this since I only ate half of his face lol. So close to my house and yet I never feel like going here. In all honesty, the food is not bad at all. The fruit pancakes are actually kind of delicious with really big pieces of fruit between the stacks. Lobster/crab and lox egg benedicts are also really good choices. The place has a very diner feel, but the food is much much "classier" than your typical diner. Very Marin-like. However: the restaurant itself has a bit of a dirty feel to it. And so, when I'm paying $16 for an egg dish I feel kind of weird that I'm in a sticky sort of place. And then there's the bathrooms. I only went in once because the strong smell of urine was enough of a deterrent for any future time. Bathrooms show a lot about a place. I feel like dirty bathrooms and high prices just don't correlate well. And then it really makes you think and shudder about the conditions in the kitchen. There seems to be only one lady working here. Sometimes she's really busy, sometimes she's not busy at all, but she's always going at her own pace. Very mellow California. Maybe I need to become less of an East Coaster ;D (yes, probably). It's fine, but I really only go here when my other brunch place has already closed. read more

Perhaps my expectations for this cafe reopening were a bit grand - besides my vaguely favorable impression of the "lighthouse" brand, i was hoping for that special breakfast place that seems oddly non-existent in marin. Nostalgia for a classic neighborhood am hangout - rullies blended with the peso for breakfast. But little has changed to make this anything but a stop of convenience or even last resort. Service was ok, but not especially warm, welcoming or flexible. The food was also ok - actually better than the service and a few notches above the prior owner's fare, a low bar. So perhaps with more modest expectations i will appreciate this "new" place but why do i often need to lower my expectations in marin compared to surrounding areas around the bay? Besides Picco, is any place in marin crushing it? Recommendations welcomed!!! read more

This place deserves more than 3 1/2 stars. It's always easier to get a table if you are a party of 2, of course you have to wait if you are a 4+ party! Usually breakfast is the same wherever you go, here I like the diversity of food! I lived close to the border of Denmark and I enjoy the frikadeller or lachs (salmon) and they are tasty! It's not just a round meatball, if you smell it, it smells like home! Sara was our server and she was super nice, on top of our needs and we got our food pretty fast even so the place was packed. It is a little bit cold in there but that's related to all the people coming in and out constantly. We will come back to try more of their delicious dishes! I am glad we found finally a place who offers more than eggs, sausages and potatoes! Of course I have to find something I didn't like! The guy who cleaned the tables was whipping them down so hard that the crumbs and food pieces were flying at least 3-4 feet through the room and some landed in our table. We have been going to Lighthouse for years and normally have such a wonderful experience, but today's experience was one for the books. Their signage states they close at 3 which one normally expects that they won't seat people after that time. When we arrived at 235, we sat down and were told that the kitchen closes at 245. Our food came quickly, probably by 2:50. At which time the staff began to clean up and the server was rushing us out. The lights were then turned off at 3 while we were still eating. The server then asked my 84 y/o mom is she was still working on her food and when she said yes, he brought her a box to further rush us along. When we weren't leaving fast enough, he told us that he really needed to leave. It was maybe 3:10 by this time. Lighthouse either needs to change their hours or give a caveat that you will be rushed out of the restaurant if you show up anytime after 2:30. read more

Arrived fairly early (7:30-8:00 am) which was the perfect time because it was really starting to get busy by the time we left. Service was okay, owner/mgr was a tad cranky and clearly irritated by a "behind the scenes" issue. Eventually she became nicer, and we were happy with the service she provided. I had their California omelet minus the bacon (I hate soggy bacon.) This omelet was very delicious, sautéed mushrooms (actually too heavy on the mushrooms, had a huge pile of them off to the side of my plate.) also had avocado and jack cheese. Beautifully cooked omelet, no brown burnt spots, nice and golden. My omelet came with hashbrowns, this was my very favorite part of breakfast....probably the best hashbrowns I've ever had! Seasoned with fresh herbs and a perfect crispy outside and tender shredded potatoes in the middle. Amazing! Hubby had their stuffed hashbrowns special topped with 2 poached eggs. He actually didn't enjoy his breakfast at all. He was disappointed in the wimpy bacon and the cook on the eggs was too hard, no runny yolk. Apparently from his view at our table he could see into the kitchen. What he observed was a complete mess. Dirty dishes piled high and a dirty floor. Since we were there right at opening time, it's safe to assume those dishes were left over from the day before. Yuck. Their hours are 7:00 - 3:00. Shouldn't they have enough time to close, clean, and prepare for service the next morning? Anyhow, this was a huge bummer because it seemed to be the same cleanliness issue with their one restroom. I waited in line forever because there was a male employee in there changing his clothes and getting ready for his shift...uhmmmm? Do that at home! Anyhow, I'd really like to give them another chance, I definitely enjoyed my breakfast and I'm thinking something must've been off with regards to the kitchen. Stuff happens, right? Oh, last thing I'd like to add is the pricing is WAY too high!! My omelet was $15.95 (no meat) Hubby's hashbrown special was $14.95 and coffee is $3.50.
