We celebrated my dad's 70th birthday this past August at this place. I was pleasantly surprised; the staff was great. I had some thoughts when my family announced where this place was. This was our first time at the Lighthouse. We made a reservation the day before and were sat within minutes of arriving. Our waitress Michelle was AMAZING. Will definitely request her for future visits. We were there celebrating our anniversary and both got filets cooked medium rare (I got mine Parmesan crusted- highly recommend). My husbands came our way over cooked but Michelle noticed right away and put in for another for us to take home. While we were waiting, management came and apologized and told us they would comp the steak AND give us free dessert. On top of dessert, Michelle brought us a free anniversary dessert that was so cute. They definitely aim to please and that they did. Definitely will be returning. read more

Why I won't go back to lighthouse... Waited at bar for the bartenders conversation to be over with her friends to order drinks for 7 ppl. Had to ask for plates to put the bread on. They forgot an appetizer. Had to ask for waters. Had to ask for steak knives. The med rare ordered steaks came out well done. The medium ordered steaks came rare. We had to clean off the table ourselves when we were done eating. Seriously. Had to ask for a dessert menu. Never came back for the dessert order. Waited almost 20 min for the check. The steaks were tasty, but it's been hit or miss every time we go. But maybe that's what you get nowadays for $500 dinner tab. read more

I never understood why you would tell someone such a long wait taking a chance they will go to a different restaurant. Per our server. My husband ordered a medium rare burger and it was cooked/brown all the way through so either we have different definitions of medium rare or it was a mess up. I created a Yelp account just to review this establishment. To preface, myself and my fiancée both have 15+ years combined in the food service industry. We made a reservation here at 7:00 the day after Valentine's Day. We arrive at 6:45 and check in with only one other couple in the lobby. We stand off to the side, and as we do, 5 other couples come in... "reservation at 7:00 for two". All 6 other couples in the waiting area get sat before we do. Around 7:20 I ask the host why we haven't been sat yet and they say "because you requested a booth". Odd, considering I watched 2 of the other 6 couples get directed to a booth. I return to my fiancée's side and we wait another 5-7 minutes. Around 7:25 we get called to get sat. We are walked to the table by a friendly host. However, upon reaching our table the busser is still cleaning off our table. About a full minute passes of us standing in the middle of the aisleway waiting for the busser to clean the table. We then sit down, and there is wet residue and lettuce in my seat from the bus tub. I use a napkin, wipe it away and call it a day.... We are waiting and talking. After about 5 minutes I look down at my watch.... After 7:30.... Still have not been greeted. My fiancée and I agree that if another 5 minutes passes we will leave... it does, and we were never greeted so we get up and leave. I stop at the host stand and admittedly in a passive-aggressive tone say "if it takes you 45 minutes to sit someone that is early to a reservation, maybe at least make sure they are greeted in time at their table" and we walk out. About 20 minutes down the road we receive a call.... Shane, the GM, calls me. Long story short, we talk, he sends me a gift card, and against our better judgement we return three weeks later on March 5th. We show up 5 minutes early to our reservation. We are then sat immediately at a table that is pre-set with menus and waters and is immaculately clean. (Please note, this is at 4:45 pm on a Saturday, so still very early). Our waitress is giving the table next to us a spill on steaks and specials, but greets us in a timely manner. No specials were explained to us, nor were any of the steak types explained to us. No upcharges were offered to us. I expect it is due to our age (25 and 28 respectively) which is unfortunate, but did not deter us from ordering several things. Our meals: Hers - 8oz Filet cooked rare with mushrooms, onions, and the cognac peppercorn sauce, Caesar salad, asparagus, and Mac and Cheese Mine - 14oz bone-in Filet cooked Medium with the cognac peppercorn sauce, fries, asparagus, and Mac and Cheese We then shared an Oreo bread pudding for dessert. Her Opinion: "Steak cooked exactly how I wanted it. However, depth of flavor not worth the price point at all. The mushrooms were good, but the onions were underdone and the sauce was terrible (we make peppercorn sauces ourselves at home all the time and peppercorn sauce is our go-to at most steak restaurants). The Caesar salad is worse than your typical chain restaurant and the Mac had a cheese combination I really did not care for. The bread pudding was hard and cold on the outside and extremely hot on the inside" My Opinion: "My bone-in filet was cooked unevenly and the flavor was non-existent. For a dry-aged, bone-in filet at $75 this was extremely disappointing. My fries were standard and nothing to complain about. The mac and cheese was probably one of the worst combinations of cheeses I've ever tasted before. Asparagus was decent. Bread pudding redeemed only by the ice cream topping" Shane came over multiple times to check on us and we informed him we were okay through most of the meal. We expressed our discontent for the macaroni and he comped it from our bill. Final comments: Service on busy nights sucks. Service varies based on how the servers perceive you. Shane as a GM is fantastic and the only redeeming quality of the restaurant from a customer perspective. Quality of food for the price point is extremely below par. All in all, I gave 3 stars. I would have given 2 if not for Shane. Food quality and pricing needs to be revisited and organization based on reservations needs to also be examined. 6.1/10 overall. read more

Not the same place. Don't blame covid because there were plenty of workers. This is a bad management problem and you ruined our wedding anniversary meal. We had to wait 40 min past our reservation to get finally seated. As we were getting seated we heard they cut off taking walk-ins finally since that was the first issue we noticed was causing long wait times. We got to our seats and ordered drinks. 25 min later we finally got our drinks and we had to ask for bread when the waiter finally came back. The bread was even bad, super hard and about an inch around in circumference. 20 min later we finally got our cold soups and warm salad. My salad was less than half the size it used to be. Terrible. Almost an hour and a half later we finally got our food. My steak was over cooked, room temperature, and super dry. My wife had the chicken "Marsala" and it had literally one mushroom. Her broccoli which she substituted for the mashed potatoes, for a $5 upcharge which wasn't told to us until we got the bill, was not cooked so we requested broccoli to be remade. We also asked for Parmesan cheese on it and it wasn't on it the first nor second time. The second time the broccoli was not cooked again. We ended up just asking for our bill and leaving half the food uneaten since it was basically inedible. We have been coming here for birthdays and anniversaries for years and this has gotten so bad. A lot of eager works with no leader. All the tables around us had to wait for over an hour for our food and complained to the manager. The only ones that got their food in a normal rime was the table of 12+ next to us. You ruined our evening with your poor service and terribly prepared food. We won't be back. read more

My parents had been to this restaurant before but this was my first time. I went with some friends to celebrate my birthday.They are taking Covid seriously and made sure everyone wore mask and social distanced the tables. The service was amazing and we received our food in a timely manner . Our server was friendly and always checked on us. She was on top of the refills. The food was delicious. We shared the crab cakes and onion rings as appetizers. I had the lobster and it was cooked to perfection. Even though it was raining, the view and atmosphere was amazing! I am updating my previous review. My first review was in 2014 where I gave this place 5 stars. I have been there several times since and did not have a good culinary experience. My last visit leads me to believe that I did not hit an off night, but the overall quality has gone down. We won't come back. The good: - The greeter. She did a great job of making us feel welcome and set true expectation of our wait time. Our server was excellent. She really cared and did everything she could to make the experience enjoyable. - The management, alerted by our server, on how bad our food was. They offered to make us new meals and comp a desert for each one of us. The bad: - The food - my wife and I both ordered different steaks. Both of us asked for a Medium cooking. We had a little retirement gathering of 7 women. Some of us ordered the same things. I ordered a cup of French Onion soup that was $7.25. It had almost no cheese at all and was just satisfactory. Myself and another person ordered the Chopped Salad and they were not even the same size as each other. I don't know what people see in this place. Food is consistently good, and this is a reasonably priced restaurant for quality food and atmosphere. Summer time is great to sit on the patio, and winter time is great for checking out the Christmas decorations. Try the Cajun chicken pasta, ribs, or the pork chops! Had an anniversary dinner there tonight at 4:45... seated upstairs at a round table. The waitress brought water, coffee ...we ordered an appetizer. It came and no silverware brought or extra small plates. We both ordered walleye and it was awful, no flavor, dry and not sure if it was walleye or really macadamia nuts in the crust. The mash potatoes were dry, best part was the grilled asparagus. This was our second time there...first time the waiter tended to larger parties around us, service not good. There is no class and service at this restaurant as you would find in an upper end menu with high prices. Will not be going back. read more

Was here for Fathers Day and got here at opening (4 people). I was first to be seated outside. We ordered at 12:15 and did not get food till around 1:34. They said they were just overwhelmed with the rush. I am not quite sure how the rush would matter if I was one of the first parties to order. We finally asked for the manager and he was less than thrilled with our missing food. He shrugged his shoulders and said he would ask the kitchen. About 10 mins later our food came. Several tables around us had similar issues. They took a single appetizer off our bill for the troubles. The common issue seemed to be ordering anything on the menu except steaks. The fish tacos were under cooked. The short rib tacos were all fat. I think they rushed our order when they realized they had missed/forgotten it. We're done trying. This used to be the place to go to for family events (Birthdays, Anniversaries, etc.) however, we're done. Four people for a birthday dinner and we all left very disappointed with the Perch (overcooked), Chicken Marsala (bad sauce & barely any mushrooms), Chix Cajun Pasta (the only flavor were the peppers, not cajun). Blake the waiter was great, no problem with the service. But we will not continue to spend money here for sub-par food and overpriced drinks. read more

This has always been one of our favorite restaurants. My wife and I ate here Friday September 22.. We had reservations for 4 PM. We both ordered the lake perch, which is usually the best in the area. The bread they brought us was not baked long enough. The worst part was the butter. It tasted like it had been in the refrigerator uncovered for a week. It was so bad we could really not use it. The lake perch also was not great. It looked like the oil was not hot enough or something. The fish was soggy and came stuck together in a little pile. Most of the batter was falling off of the fish. It was so bad I thought maybe they pan fried it instead of deep-fried it I even asked the waiter. "Are they pan frying the fish now?" He informed us that they make it the same way as always. So I'm not sure what went wrong. All I know is that the fish was barely edible. We were very disappointed since usually this place does not let you down. read more

We frequent Lighthouse, living 20 years, two blocks away and patronizing since it was Tobes. Our waiter was probably the worst we've had. He was running his hand through his shoulder length hair every few minutes while waiting on customers. I was ok with no mask but unforgiving on that. I had perch which was very good and ordered rice instead of fries. Never received my side. I asked about it at the end of my meal and was told they no longer serve rice. We had waive the waiter down when he rarely appeared. Not one of our favorite experiences there. Other tables around us were also negatively commenting on the waiter. read more

We dined here tonight, after two bad experiences in the past. Well, third time is not a charm. The service here really has gotten poor. We sat outside and everything seemed slow. When I ordered a second drink I received the wrong one. Honest mistake, no harm, no foul. I kept it, as I do not like wasting things. When it came time for food, I ordered the burger on the menu. It arrived without any of the toppings. I brought this up and the server said this has happened before. The additional toppings took forever to get. The manager came over to inquire and had a generic "sorry about that" attitude and had little concern. They offered the "dessert is on us" but we are not sweets people. They removed our appetizer, but I also paid twice the amount I would have paid for the original second drink I ordered. Overall not a good experience. Don't waste your time or money here. I am not sure why people regard this place so highly. We will not be returning. read more

Best Surf and Turf restaurant in Northwest Indiana. Yes, I went there! I was impressed with the restaurant staff, most specifically our waitress, Taylor who was attentive to our needs, personable, and most importantly was passionate about her work! I was also impressed with the General Manager who spent some time walking around the tables and talking to his customers. The service at the Lighthouse Restaurant could compete with any restaurant in the country. The menu was impressive and had a large array of choices. The ambiance was comfortable and the background noise was not too loud which was important because I had my 80 something year old grandparents in attendance. Everyone enjoyed their dinner and we received our food fairly quickly. I would highly recommend the Lighthouse Restaurant to anyone in the Chicagoland/NW Indiana area looking for a new place to check out! read more

Went for my birthday dinner on a Friday night and had an excellent experience. This being my first time visiting I had high expectations based on friends that have been. They were right! This place was great. The lobster bisque was so creamy and topped with small pieces of lobster which was lovely. We both decided to have a couple of drinks, I choosing wine and my bf got an old fashioned, both were delicious. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and it was fantastic! The portion size was perfect and the char on the top made the fish really stand out. My bf got the scallops and they were good, cooked very well and paired with grits which was an interesting but enjoyable take on this dish. Our server, Taylor, was amazing she made our first experience perfect. She was very friendly and personable making the whole dinner comfortable. I was disappointed 6/20/21 with the service as well as the meal. We were served cold mashed potatoes and told the server only to have them take them back and placed in the microwave with butter placed on the top and brought back to the table. As well as onions and mushroom for the steak wasn't hot either. Never once did the waitress seem apologetic nor concerned with our happiness. The waitress never came to check on us till it was time to bring the bill that was 171.00. A waste of money will never go back. read more
