The outdoor batting cages are an added draw making it seemingly a family-friendly environment. We have been to Home Plate around 8 times in the past 1.5 years. So, by no means am I basing my opinion on a single visit. The food is basic bar food with nothing special about it. I can do better at home. Our last time eating there, my family had hamburgers. They were extremely messy and fair at best. The service has never been "fast" noreven attentive. With wages being fairly high in AZ, service will often suffer due to understaffing. My wife and I went to Home Plate last night to watch some preseason football. It appeared that a couple new bartenders were in training. A red-headed woman who appeared to be the trainer was incredibly rude to the trainees who approached her for some direction. A) Terrible condescending way to train B) Never put an employee down and definitely don't berate them in front of customers. I was surprised that the bartender in training didn't walk out. Later in the evening something transpired in the side room which was handled by this same worker yelling from the bar to the people in that room using expletives. Where is the Customer Service? Where is basic decency and tact? After last night, my wife and I were in agreement that we deserve a more professional sport's bar experience. At a minimum, I shouldn't have to bear witness to public shaming of a new employee. On a side note: I did find it uncomfortable that a large centrally located TV was always tuned to Newsmax regardless of it being a Sport's Bar. MAGA recruitment tool or perhaps conversion therapy for Trump Derangement Syndrome?

The hostess led us to a table and chairs that were soaked by the misters. She acted like it was fine. There was only one other low top outside. We went to it and there were tons of red ants crawling all around the ground and up the table and chair legs. Also a bunch of leaves and debris. The whole time going from table 1 to table 2, then noticing and commenting on the ants, the hostess was right there. No apology or attempt to clean anything up. Just standing there awkwardly, watching us take in the disappointment. It was clear the outside was not cleaned or even looked at in quite some time, and that would not change, so we left. We went to Lil Abners instead. As soon as we got there, we realized our terrible experience at Growlers was a blessing in disguise. The drink deals are better and cheaper at Lil Abners anyway. Plus, despite a staff of mostly high school and college age kids, they actually do a good job of making sure you have a good experience. And of course, the food is a million times better. So long Growlers. We won't be back.

We were there a little over an hour sharing stories; how we met our partners, what's fascinating about wines and what makes Old Pueblo unique. The wines were delicious; 100% organic and prepared in a way where you enjoy every sit and get every bit of the flavor as intended. This is definitely saved on our list of wineries outside of California that we will be going back to. Just got to plan the next road trip.

Seeing who hit hardest was all the rage. Catalina Brewing Company takes their beer on the run, or should I say mountain biking trails, to serve to people at events, which sounds fun. There some neat history in this place. I hear they have trivia nights as well. They are family friendly, serving sodas as well. They make cocktails with wine converted to various types of "liquor ". Overall I thought this was a great place I'd go back to in a heartbeat. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, and parking. It was clean and best of all, cool in the summertime. If you're looking for a classic steakhouse experience in Tucson, Lil Abners is a solid choice. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed with the friendly and attentive service. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with a touch of old-school charm. Unfortunately, while the service was great, the steaks themselves were just average. They weren't bad by any means, but they didn't quite live up to the hype. Perhaps Lil Abners should consider spicing things up a bit with some more creative seasoning options. Talk about a mis-steak! On the bright side, we were pleased to hear that Lil Abners makes their own pecan pies in-house. Sadly, we didn't get to try any because they were sold out! Hopefully, we'll have better luck on our next visit. Overall, Lil Abners is a solid choice for a traditional steakhouse experience with excellent service. While the steaks may not be the star of the show, there are plenty of other menu items to enjoy. And if you're lucky enough to snag a slice of their homemade pecan pie, you're in for a real treat! read more

Have been going here for 20 years every year when we go to the Tucson Gem Show. They were packed as usual and in the past it was worth a little wait. But this time was ridiculous. We had a 7pm reservation and got there early we didn't get a table until after 8. Not sure what happened. I saw later they had done a coupon promotion with the AGTA at the convention center and should have expected a crowd. They had one bartender working his tale off, who didn't get to us sitting at the bar waiting for our table for over 20 minutes. So, ok I am willing to put up with a wait and hassle if the food is great as it has been in the past. But now even though the prices have gone up at least 50% since the last time year my Beef ribs were trimmed down to the bone and instead of being tender falling off the bone almost they were over done and even crispy around the edges. Hope they get it together. This is not a good trend. BTW the cost index should be at least $$$ now as my half rack was close to $30 . read more

The first thing I need to own is that it's a shame I hadn't visited here before. We arrived at 5:30p and both the bar and patio areas were packed - standing room only, and no wonder. They have one of the better happy hours (daily! 3:00 - 6:30p) - able to accommodate both the slacker and the over-timer Lol. Basic drinks are all discounted such as house wines, well drinks, and beers. Their bottled wines and craft cocktails are all exempt though. Many of their appetizers are also discounted and some quite substantially. We grabbed a glass of the house cabernet ($6, normally $8) and the grilled shrimp wrapped in jalapeno bacon ($13, normally $20). NOTE: happy hour pricing is Only available if you order/consume at the bar or on the patio and that's clear in advance, and understandable. The dining areas were only half full at this early point (but filled up by 6:30) and the host kindly encouraged us to enjoy our starters at the bar as she would hold our table. We were then sat near the "back" of this long venue and frankly, aside from the lone windowed table at the very front, this would be my preferred seating - cozy, intimate, with only five other tables around us. For dinner drinks she got an Italian Nebbiolo Bricco Magno Red Blend ($13/glass, reliably terrific/mellow) and I got the Chupacabra ($15) Mezcal/prickly pear cocktail, strong and excellent as well. We got an additional appetizer: the roasted bone marrow ($19). I had never had marrow before but she raved about how good this can be if done properly (bonus, it is super healthy). Folks, a picture/worth a 1000... suffice to say this was simply outstanding! We both had long work weeks and were craving meat - just a damn good steak. Our waiter, without blinking recommended the 8oz bison filet mignon ($65) as his absolute menu fav, and then the day's special: 14oz ribeye ($50). We ordered each. All dinners come with two sides and we each got the day's special: roasted half artichoke and she got the loaded baked potato while I got the mashed potatoes. Food arrived about 15 minutes later at good temperature (warm/rested with a strong char) with each being accurately grilled (medium and medium-rare). Taste was outstanding. Neither one of us had bison filet before and marveled how it (subtly) added a "wild" edge to an always outstanding, lean-but-tender, cut of beef. The loaded baked was terrific, however, the mashed was the only disappointment... a plainer mash one could not make themselves - pure white and borderline dry, no milk, butter, egg, gravy(?), nothing to make it creamy or add any flavor dimension - a surprise frankly. The only other "critique" is that the dessert menu could add some kind of dark/chocolate concoction. All in all, though, we loved our experience and have decided to add this to our periodic special dinners rotation! Staff was outstanding - just the proper balance of attentive and quiet - and waters never went below half empty. Parking is free and plentiful, especially behind the restaurant (and yes, if you continue on around the back there is another long entrance/exit driveway that comes out the other side of Jimmy John's and Noodleholics.

My favorites were the Ribs, Brisket, Tri-tip, and baked beans. The turky was solid and smokey. I'm not really a fan of sausage, but my wife enjoyed these. I loved that you could really taste the smokey taste and that everything was fresh, juicy, and tender. The baked beans were the kind of love, with pieces of pork throughout the mixture. Because we split this platter (with leftovers), it was quite a good deal. When the bill came, the waitress listed a bunch of things that qualified for an extra discount, so we scored an additional 10% off for being seniors. If I lived in Tucson, this place would be on my regular restaurant rotation, which is high praise indeed!

Rejecting my wife and two kids and willfully losing out on revenue twenty minutes before the restaurant actually closes is completely unacceptable. I hope management starts paying closer attention to how their staff treats incoming patrons. Your food might be good, but you are not that special. Show some respect to your customers. We will never be coming back.
