Everything is always made fresh daily, and we usually go in the morning before hikes/beach days before things sell out. I always get the cream puffs and mochi donuts/bites, then we try new things. I know this is a revered institution, but our visit just wasn't very good. We went for breakfast: the pancakes were good, but the American Breakfast wasn't, and the potatoes were undercooked with a flavor that was almost too earthy. The pastries were just okay; we tried a few cake slices that were fine but unremarkable. The cinnamon roll was dry and hard, the malasadas were forgettable, and the haupia-filled malasada was surprisingly tart. It's possible some ingredients were locally sourced and just unfamiliar to our mainland palates, or maybe we simply caught them on an off day. Original location is what we grew up on...know and love. Prices have gotten to be a little ridiculous...guess that's what happens when they decide to expand that much. Kinda loses its appeal when you can get it anywhere though...and they didn't stick with the old school diner feel. But needed pies for work. $40+ and 2 pies later...at least the pies are yummy. Also got a side order fried rice for breakfast. 1 scoop. Had carrots and what may have been spinach, and choke garlic. 2 of the most manini pieces of spam. Ordered takeaway today. Had to wait as bread pudding was still cooling down to be cut. Pleasantly surprised at how nicely my lunch was boxed up. LB takes pride in delivering a quality product in top notch fashion. So appreciated. I know of only one other restaurant that does this. MC. IYKYK. The mushroom chicken was wonderful. Lightly breaded and fried. Not greasy and oh so crispy. I asked for gravy separate as it can be salty. Not today. It was wonderful. Yes, that is canned corn. This was our last meal before flying home, and it was a solid way to end the trip. This location is a small diner with counter seating only and was pretty full when we arrived, but we were able to grab two seats. The ladies working the counter were friendly, efficient, and quick to take our drink orders. We ordered the saimin with teri chicken, grilled butter toast with that iconic bright red jelly, two eggs sunny side up, and half a papaya. The food came out fast and was genuinely delicious -- simple, comforting, and exactly what we were craving. I'll admit, I had a moment of surprise watching some of the food prep. I naïvely assumed everything was made to order, so seeing the saimin (along with curry and stew) portioned into microwave bowls and heated was unexpected. That said, I also watched the short-order cooks actively making pancakes, cooking bacon and eggs, grilling teriyaki chicken, buttering rolls, and preparing loco moco patties. It's clearly a mix of prep styles to keep things moving. End of the day -- no complaints. Everything tasted good and met expectations. This location also carries frozen coco puffs, which I desperately wished I had room in my carry-on to take home. We drove over to the nearby Liliha Bakery to buy a full size cake to celebrate my cousin's birthday. Inside, the line was short which gave us time to consider our options. All of the available cakes were on display. This time we chose the passion guava cake and the staff was able to add a birthday greeting for no charge. The bottom of the cake tray was taped down inside the box which was an added touch to keep it from moving around. Every time I go back to Hawaii, I have to get cocoa puffs. At this point it's tradition! Liliha Bakery has been around for forever and they are known for their cocoa puffs. Little puff pastries filled with chocolate pudding filling and topped with Chantilly cream. It is heavenly! You must order at least one. Early for an appointment at Kuakini Hospital so we decided to get lunch. The counter was full as usual and when the waitress took us in the back to the kitchen. We were excited! There were several tables of 4 and it was where all the bakers were rolling and mixing their delicious pastries and cookies. This was a first and our waitress Leila? was very nice too. I had a burger which was homemade and of course served in their own homemade bun. Served with potatos I could not finish the meal. Tourist review with first trip to Hawaii - On our first day in Hawaii, we had to go to Liliha Bakery. This was our favorite food spot during our whole trip. My sister always goes to the Nimitz location, I decided to come here because it's the original. It was a great meal. You can tell this place has been around for a long time. There is no table seating, only counter seating. The bakery area is also a decent Size. Everybody was friendly and helpful. I decided to go with the Portuguese sausage, eggs, and garlic fried rice. The breakfast was a total home run! The eggs were perfectly over easy, the Portuguese sausage was delicious and it wasn't too greasy, and you could definitely taste the garlic in the fried rice. Instead of toast or a biscuit, it came with a wonderfully yeasty roll on the side, which was soft and delicious. The roll also came with an amazingly wonderful raspberry syrup.. Everything was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, I tore into my breakfast so fast, I didn't get a photo. Afterwards, I stopped at the bakery to get a cocoa puff, which my sister recommended, it's basically a chocolate cream puff. It was creamy and delicious. I also decided to try one of the poi donuts. She said ok 4 regular coco puffs and then when I get home open the box and see it's 4 matcha. A good friend who now lives in Oahu kept raving about the food and baked goods were at Liliha. Naturally, we ended up meeting here for bfast during our last trip. Arrived to a packed counter but was offered a seat inside the kitchen. Felt a bit warm and humid and opted to wait for the counter to open up. The entire staff was super friendly and we were seated within a few minutes. The grilled butter rolls were tasty and love how they toast the buns on the griddle. I opted for the garlic fried rice w/ spam which was phenomenal! Only complaint was that the eggs were cooked a bit too long but still had a little bit of runny yolk inside. Wife ordered the denver omelet w/ fried rice which she also enjoyed. Couldn't leave without buying some baked goods and ended up trying their poi mochi donut which had an outstanding mochi texture but thought it lacked poi flavor. However, the cinnamon butter mochi cake was amazing! Was great fresh and even better when warmed in the oven. Next time, I'll turn on the broiler so that the top crisps up a tad bit. Liliha bakery is a very highly recommended and popular bakery in Hawaii and me and my family often go here for breakfast and mainly for the blueberry scones, which are my favorite we normally get a different cake and this was my first time trying the strawberry shortcake and I felt like the strawberries were overripe and there there was a little too much whipped cream and not a lot of cake. A friend recommended that we should try Liliha Bakery for breakfast and we stopped by the last morning we were in Honolulu. It is located on the third floor of the International Marketplace and we were pleasantly surprised to find that there was no wait for seating when there were lines out the door for places on the ground level (arrived around 7am on a weekday). I opted for the smoked pork and eggs and added a scoop of rice. My husband got the Ultimate Berries & Nuts with a short stack pancake. The smoked pork was quite smokey and it was a perfect complement to the over medium eggs and rice. I appreciated the small salad too. The pancakes were giant and we could have honestly just shared the plate of pancakes. They were soft and fluffy and tasty. Liliha Bakery is a great option for breakfast and then have a giant variety of pastries in the case in the front. As it is in a bit of a touristy area, the prices are a bit high. Even so, I believe Liliha is a good option for breakfast when you are in the Waikiki area. read more

Overrated!! At first glance when entering the restaurant I was overwhelmed with the desserts. I was ready to purchase a variety of pastries. They all looked so delicious! But the service craved my appetite. I wanted to learn more about the desserts so I would know which ones I wanted to buy. But the employee gave me the impression that I was wasting her time. She was hesitant about giving me a description of the pastries. I realize I wasn't at a museum but I want to know which would satisfy my taste buds. After all these pastries aren't cheap. Not to mention I would have been ok (maybe) had she handed me the dessert menu then sent me about my way. This employee eventually ignored me by rushing over to greet the next customer. I brushed it off and moved on to the dining area for lunch. I ordered the hamburger steak and upgraded to fried rice. Not sure how to describe the rice but it was not tasty at all. The steak burger was ok. I had also ordered some sort of popular fruity beverage and asked that my glasses be filled with ice. The waitress insisted that I not get much ice because they don't serve refills. So instead i asked nicely for a side of ice. Had to ask twice. After all was said and done I excused myself leaving a plate of food and drink. Nothing about my visit at this restaurant went well. Then as we were leaving my cousin stopped to buy dessert. A different employee accosted me and was polite. Even asked if I had questions. You might call me stubborn but the first employee had already ruined it for me. I called a few places for half sheet cake prices and thought Liliha Bakery was the best choice for what I was looking for. There were places that you could only choose their decorations OR the price of their cake and decoration were sooooo outrageous, equivalent to one and a half times more than Liliha Bakery...yikes! I dropped by to order a half sheet Chantilly with Banana Cake and asked if I could speak to the decorator. I knew what I wanted but didn't know what colors should be used for the words. Venus who was the decorator came out where I described to her what I wanted. This was for a baby shower for twins...a boy and girl. I wanted the "Boy" to be blue and the "Girl" to be pink but wasn't sure on what color should be used for the rest of the words. She said she could combine the pink and blue together...wow, never thought to ask that! I emailed her a couple of pictures with the characters/border. She took the time to looked at it, had other suggestions regarding the border and words. Whenever in this situation, I always feel like I'm a bother and want to rush so I don't take too much of their time but Venus made me feel like my cake order was important. We didn't care for it so we'll stick to the Grilled Mahi Mahi & Grilled Chicken. When my daughter picked up the cake, she texted me a picture of it. OMG! Venus, you're awesome! The cake and the color of the words were sooooooo nice! Stitch and Angel were done so well! Thank you, Venus! Wanted to mention...found out a friend picked up a quarter sheet Chantilly with Chocolate Cake a week after. Not sure if Venus did it but my friend was really happy with it. She gave me a few pieces of her cake and I liked the chocolate cake better...my husband still liked the banana cake better. Both are good! As far as prices, her quarter sheet was slightly less than half of what I paid for a half sheet so I'm assuming it's because of the "banana cake" versus "chocolate cake". I know we will always order our cakes from Liliha Bakery! FYI: I checked out YouTube to find out how to cut the cake where I wouldn't mess up the frosting. Found one where they used dental floss. I tried it but it was too hard cutting through the frosting. If you take the cake right out of the refrigerator, the frosting is firm so using a knife will cut through nicely. If the cake was out for a while, the frosting will be soft so the dental floss would work but check YouTube first because there are steps on what to do. If I could give negative stars I would. After an appointment at kuakini my husband put in an online order that went dark after he placed the order. He and I both called 24 times to make sure they got the order and guess what? They're phone only rings and rings and no one picks up. Then after four rings the call disconnects. I arrive at the store 30 minutes later to pick up my food. First off the staff was rude as hell. Especially the older lady who wants to play manager but does nothing expect insult people. Rather than apologizing for not having the order she proceeds to tells me are you sure it's this location cause we don't have an order... she asked me three times if it was the one on kuakini . Like excuse me but we come here a lot and I know where we ordered. My suggestions are if you want to keep customers coming back how about you treat them with kindness and dignity? Learn to apologize. If you are going to offer ways to order online make sure the stuff works. Have someone answer your damn phone!! Liliha bakery is a staple, and you can't go wrong with this location. The seating is limited here as there is only counter service, but the food comes out pretty quick. We loved everything but didn't care much for the beef stew. The BLT was huge! They know how to make a good sandwich. I also like to get the waffles here. I noticed this location doesn't offer the miso butterfish, so you have to go to Ala Moana, Nimitz or Pearl Highlands for their extended menu. Just the regular classics here. read more

We left the Waikīkī area to eat at this location. Easier parking for sure. There's only counter seating but inside the kitchen, they have a few tables that looks like some of the regulars get the option to use. Very good service and tasty food on the breakfast menu.
