Limon offers delicious food and drinks. You cannot go wrong with their ceviche, empanadas, rotisserie chicken, and yuca fries. I've tried many things on their menu, but those 4 are at the top of my list. The service is terrific, and the location is prime in Oakland. I used to frequent this restaurant a lot back in the Mission when I lived there and this place is just as tasty! Went here on a Friday noon to grab lunch with a friend. The place was about 60% capacity and 100% great hospitality. The front of house staff here is really attentive and kind. All the food here is pretty rock solid and always get an extra order of the aji amarillo sauce. I always get some dark chicken with yuca fries and chifa vegetables. It's a nice medium to large sized lunch that doesn't slug you down. Other notable things to try are the empanadas and cauliflower. Tasty, reliable, and consistent place for lunch or dinner! My friend and I LOVE to eat Peruvian food. She's been talking about Limon for the longest time so we thought we'd drop by the Oakland's location to check it out! We went on a Sunday around 11 something and was able to find parking easily along the street but I believe there's also a parking garage you can park in. Limon is located near the Lake! It was still pretty empty when we arrived and was told we can sit wherever we'd like! The staff there were SO NICE!! They were kind enough to recommend us a bunch of drinks and appetizers. We ended up getting the Pisco Sour and Maracuya (Passion Fruit) Sour. They were both pretty strong and because I do like sweeter drinks I preferred the Maracuya over the original Pisco Sour. We also got the chicken empanadas ($12) and el pescador ceviche ($19). The ceviche was spicy and they came with these pretty cool flour chips! We were a huge fan of the empanadas but we're also always a fan of empanadas. They were super fresh, hot, and crispy when they arrived and they came with some aji amarillo sauce! Definitely trying the beef ones next time. We also ordered some Yuca fries ($6) which they did forget about but once we mentioned it they brought it out right away and it was extremely fresh and hot as well. We also ordered 2 extra aji Amarillo sauce which is about $2.25 each but they gave us one for free! I also ordered the Lomo Saltado ($25) and I thought it was simply okay. I think the steak needed some more seasoning or so but it wasn't bad! For dessert we ordered more drinks lol AND the Panna Cotta De Mango ($9) the jam that came with this dessert was SO GOOD and it had the same texture as Flan which we loved. Overall we had a great experience here. The staff were great, the atmosphere was great, the drinks and appetizers were fun, the dessert was delicious, we ended up spending 2 hours there! Beautifully presented food, but overly seasoned flavors and average ambience and service. The empanada sampler was a decently sized appetizer to split with a small group. The veggie empanada was my favorite - it had a delicious medley of mushrooms and spinach. My least favorite was the chicken empanada. I found it to be way too salty. The aji amarillo sauce was tangy and creamy, but I wish the sampler also came with a side of chimichurri which would have paired well with the beef empanada. The saltado de pollo was very colorful and had a good amount of chicken and crunchy red onions. However, the soy sauce base was way too salty! The French fries absorbed the soy sauce which made them soggy. I would have preferred the soy sauce to be on the side since it overwhelmed the other flavors. I've seen various locations of Limón around the Bay, but decided to try this one as i could get a reservation before a show at the Paramount. A little rocky start as my husband and I sat ackwardly waiting for a server for a while when we got there. BUT the server was friendly and the service was efficient. The chicken was crispy skinned and yet moist. Very tasty. The arroz was the equivalent of a seafood paella with lots of seafood. My first experience here about a year ago was much different and much better. Yesterday it felt like they were short staffed or something. Bartender ended up being our "server" we saw him maybe twice. The "manager" was just walking back and forth from the kitchen to the host area. The host who was running back and forth also full filling Togo orders, definitely could have used help but whenever someone walked in te manager would just yell for her from the host stand to the back expo area.. instead of just seating them himself. The bartender forgot to put it in, we saw him walk to the fish station and ask the lady to quickly make the order. He never acknowledged our table and that the ceviche wasn't out. Just pretended it wasn't happening and then avoided our table until he asked if we wanted dessert. Our waters were empty most of the meal. Incredibly disappointed, especially after spending nearly $200. We work in the industry, that's why I made the observation I did. Something was off. Even the Lomo was beyond salty. I've had it a couple times and it never tasted like this. It happens, restaurants have off days. The manager who was on duty last night, just could have supported in a better way, he wasn't checking on tables, just walking by them. Not helping get room out. Nada. first off, the service was amazing. my server was very sweet and helped me pick out what to order out of a menu where I wanted to try so many things!! the lycheemelon cocktail was absolutely delicious, and not to mention so pretty. I was wary that it was going to taste too sweet and syrupy, but it wasn't. it was such a clean refreshing taste. I enjoyed that the amount of drink they give doesn't disappear after three sips buttt i unfortunately didn't feel the slightest buzz even after finishing what felt like a decent volume of cocktail I enjoyed that there was a decent amount of seafood in the arroz con mariscos. the rice was cooked well, and it tasted good, but was a very subtle flavor. like I almost had to really think to really appreciate the complexity of the flavor. Solid dinner for date night! One thing to mention was that the service here was amazing. We came here on a busy Friday night without a reservation and we only had a 10 min wait. Our server, Neema, was also so friendly and attentive. Coliflor picante - 9/10 - the sauce was delicious and tasted like smoky honey mustard and the cauliflower itself was really crispy Pescado del dia - 8/10 - the fish of the day was salmon. The top of the fish was very crispy but the skin was surprisingly soggy, maybe because it was sitting on top of everything else. We asked for no bacon on the hash and it was still delicious! The potatoes by themselves had a very strong potato flavor but combined with the sauce, it was heavenly!! There were also mussels in the dish and those tasted very seafood-y. The sauce seemed to be like a light, salty tomato broth and it was the perfect pairing with everything else. Eating everything together was truly the perfect bite. Chicken empanadas - 6/10 - the pastry was crispy and had a good flavor. The filling inside was really dense and creamy so we didn't like it as much. While I love Peruvian food, I just don't seem to like Limon. I visited Limon for the second and unmistakably final time last week. I initially tried San Francisco's Limon in winter 2021 when I was living in the city. This time around, I found myself in Oakland and decided to go ahead & give it another try. After two visits I can now say I've tired their: 1) Lomo Saltado 2) Arroz Con Pollo 3) Ceviche Mixto 4) Jalea The first two dishes were reviewed on other post, but just to reiterate--the saltado is void of any depth of flavor. The same goes for the arroz. The ceviche mixto was tasty. It doesn't come with chips so prepare to spend an additional $5 or $6 on taro chips. As far as the jalea, again no flavor or no seasoning. The fried assortment is paired with a creamy yuzu aioli. I don't think it complemented the entree. It was heavy and rich, albeit tasteless. It added nothing to the dish in terms of flavor. I asked the waiter if there were any other dipping sauces I could use to remedy the meal. The server produced a chimmichuri sauce from the kitchen, which again, oil laden and tasteless. Case in point--don't order the jalea by any means. The dish can't stand alone by itself and the sauces available are just as bland. In short, the only dish I can say I enjoyed is their ceviche. Wouldn't recommend if flavor and taste is what you are after! read more

Took a friend from out of town here to have dinner. We're two petite girls so we were able to share both plates together. The arroz con mariscos was incredible!! At the end of sharing this dish, my friend and I were trying to negotiate who would take the last bite of it. The ceviche mixto was perfect, I loved how tangy it was and it was truly made to perfection! Limón's cocktails were also amazing, definitely felt its' effects without tasting too much alcohol. We both ordered lychee drinks and the presentation was stunning, and of course, just so delicious. When I found out Limón was *finally* opening a location in the East Bay, I nearly cried tears of joy thinking about the gas I'd be saving by not having to cross a body of water to get my fix. I've been ~3 times since the Oakland location has opened and each time has been better than the last! On my most recent trip, we ordered family style so I got to try a variety of their dishes. Food: 5/5 - Arroz Con Mariscos ($30): Gorgeous presentation and super flavorful - Churrasco ($42): Tender and juicy! The way steaks ought to be. - Lomo Saltado + Shrimp ($35): The reason I was making previous treks to the peninsula. The flavors were pronounced and the meat was tender! My forever fave. Service: 5/5 We called on a Sunday around 1 pm and were informed that there was no wait. When we arrived, there wasn't patio seating like there'd been when I'd visited previously but when we requested to sit outside, they brought out tables and chairs just for our party. Even though we were the only people sitting outside, our server made sure to check on us frequently and we didn't have to track anyone down! My wife and I decided to have a food adventure Saturday. We stumbled inside Limón after yelping best salads. No problem with the wait, we sat outside as the 80 degree day dropped to a comfortable 75. At first seating we were shocked to discover another party who came in after us, get service before us, which made me feel a little icky. However, our server (not sure if he was even supposed to be our server) came over, apologized, and made us feel at home. What initially started off as just getting a salad turned into a salad, two drinks, and their half chicken plate. Their Kale Salad had a nice variety of crunch, tart and sweetness. I was not a fan of the dressing, because it had a heavy mayo forward profile. In addition, I think having red onions in the salad would have added a nice pungent tone to the sweet and tartness. Our margaritas were industrial but not indistinguishable. While equally refreshing, the problem was the Cadillac tasted no different than the La Pasion. Lastly, that damn rotisserie chicken tho' ... it made up for everything #100OutOf10. Herbacious (I think this is a word ), smoky, tender, juicy, delicious! We paired it with the green beans (stellar) and the cilantro rice (up charge of $8 ‍... but worth it). The yellow sauce they bring with the chicken is yellow crack! Next time I have to be sure to ask for double the sauce. Overall, nice vibe, amazing chicken, HOT DATE! Limón can take my money anytime! read more
