I've been to both Oakland and Walnut Creek Limòn. They are both good and I recommend both! But overall I choose Walnut Creek.

Given all of the great reviews, I was really excited to try the food here. However, I have to say that the experience wasn't great. To be fair, we ordered takeout so some things like the sweet potato fries and empanadas were a bit soft/soggy and would have been better straight from the kitchen. That's totally understandable and not the reason for the low rating. So, we ordered the La Poderosa, vegetarian and chicken empanadas, Lomo Soltado, 1/2 chicken, and the Tacu Tacu Marisquero. Most of the food was decent but nothing was exceptional. Expectations were elevated also because the food here isn't cheap. So I've had some great Lomo Soltado and this one was just OK. It lacked depth of flavor and the meat wasn't as tender as I would have expected. The two bad things were that there was a piece of plastic in the vegetarian empanada and a ~1" piece of chicken bone in the chicken empanada. The chicken bone is barely forgivable but the piece of plastic, never. It was clear, about 1/2" to 3/4" in length and it looked like it was the seal to some sort of food condiment. Thank goodness nobody swallowed it. Anyway, perhaps we were unlucky or it was a bad night but this is not a restaurant I'd want to patronize again. read more

This place has been on my list to try for 3 years! I finally got the opportunity to try it and I am so mad I didn't go earlier! The drink was 10/10 I loved my lychee melon drink super refreshing! The food at Limón is delicious! My must-order is their truffle mac & cheese; it's my #1 favorite mac and cheeses I've ever eaten. I really appreciate the Happy Hour deal they have there as well! Recently I tried their Yuca fries and it was nice, not too salty, and paired well with its accompanied sauce. I recently tried an item from their dessert menu (Chocolate Bandido) and I'm so very pleased to see it wasn't your typical slice of chocolate cake with an ice cream slapped on top. It was nice and moist inside, hot, and contrasted well with the cold ice cream. The sauces they spread around the plate with the cookie crumbs, and slice of strawberries also made for a satisfying bite. The service and staff there are wonderful! The front desk was attentive, the waiters and waitresses walking around are always keeping an eye out for whatever their tables need, including mine. There's always someone checking in to refill your drink. They're also always ready to clean off your table so finished dishes don't stay longer than necessary! The server/chef who came out to serve me my mac and cheese was very pleasant. When I asked about specifics regarding the Happy Hour deal, the lady at the front desk was very nice and provided the answer with no judgment, which may be obvious to do but I'd say is greatly appreciated! I know it's a local chain, but it's one of the better ones. I'm only giving 4 out of 5 stars because of a specific incident that occurred. We were the victims of a Jerry Seinfeld skit, meaning I was in the bathroom with one of the servers who left the #2 stall without washing his hands. As fate would have it, "Poppie" was our server. Limon offers the wonderful flavors of Peru brought to you here in The Bay. Great dining atmosphere w/ both indoor and outdoor seating. Whether it's HH or dinner w/ friends, you can't go wrong. Peru is known for their ceviche, so you have to try one as a starter. They have a number of different flavors. But have no fear, if you're having trouble deciding, they offer a mixto of four different types as a sampler. I enjoyed both their beef and chicken empanadas. Candidly I thought the cheese and vegetable were a little bland and forgettable. But again, if you're having a hard time choosing they offer a sampler of beef, chicken, cheese and vegetable. For entrees, I'd recommend one of their "Classico" plates. The lomo saltado is a great choice of steak and sautéed vegetable on a bed of French fries and rice. The seco de costillas is another great "Classico" and full of flavors served as bone in short rib on a bed of Peruvian rice & beans and delicious salsa. As a heads up, parking in the Oakland location is tough. So make sure you allocate enough time for 10-15 minutes trying to find a spot, unless you have the natural parking karma :) read more

I made a reservation for 8:30 pm on Sunday May 24th, because that time that was available. A few minutes later , I received a call from the restaurant asking me if we could be there at 8 pm because the kitchen closes at 9 pm. Seriously!? Is that the respect you offer to your customers? If you offer reservations at 8:30 pm, you should be able to honor that and not be making calls to rush your customers just so you guys can close earlier. We were going to be a party of 5, spend money on foods and drinks. I decided to cancel because I won't spend my money at a place where they're rushing me! Where the heck is your customer service!? This was a disappointing experience all due to service. We came in on a weekend early afternoon and it was pretty empty so we were seated right away. Our table was right by the "hostess" station where they also have their cubicles to store the staff personal items. So during the whole meal we had multiple staff personnel standing right by the table on their phones. This is NOT an issue with the staff, but seems like an issue with the facility maybe needing to provide a better break room location. We came here to try Peruvian chicken and were not disappointed, on the side we got a salad ( disappointing considering it was your basic school lunch chopped up salad), and spicy seasoned zucchini which was delicious. I got a sangria which was very good and my partner got a lychee drink which was also delicious. Our server was Brian C who not only was taking care of us, but other tables AND working behind the bar and still provided excellent service. The problem was the other staff members. Not once but twice we saw Brian C having to ask other servers to clean up tables or assist. What was not an ok server situation was one of the servers walked over to clean off dirty plates from a table right next to us and she proceeded to take the dirty plates and put it on OUR table as we were eating without a word. They weren't really busy for a Saturday lunch time. We let my brother do the ordering. We asked the staff how manh dishes would be good for a party of 3 and went with the recommended two entrees and an appetizer. We had the polli-papas as an appetizer. Pretty delicious, good fries and nice flavors. For our entrees, we got the saltado de pollo and the seafood paella! We wound up not really eating the rice as we were getting pretty full but the saltado de pollo was delicious! Finally, what I was waiting for was the paella. It didn't have that crispiness that Spanish paella does but it was still pretty good. They even provided a plate for shells. Very flavorful. Limón is one of my family's regular spots for weeknight celebration/occasion dinners. We've loved coming in the summer and sitting outside. Servers are so warm and helpful, and the service is quick, especially considering the dinner rush. Also so convenient that they take reservations. The food is SO good, so flavorful and so tasty. The sauces are fantastic, and we love trying new sides. The meat boards with sides are a great way to share and try foods in a group. Getting to the place was confusing as Google Maps puts you right in the middle of the block when in actuality the place is on the corner, so FYI. The service could have indeed been better, there were a lot of times that we'd wait for what appeared to be far too long to get a drink or her service. My party of three ate here last night. We had a "mixed" experienced. My dish- the PICANTE DE MARISCOS- was absolutely delightful! The sauce was especially tasty and full of interesting spices. There were a ton of different seafood delicacies beautifully presented to pour over the provided rice. Perfect! One of the best meals I've had in ages. My son really enjoyed his dish- the FLAT IRON steak. He rated it 8 out of 10. I had a small piece and it was perfectly cooked, but perhaps lacked that ultimate kick in flavor needed for a higher rating. And our son's mom- a vegetarian- ordered BRUSELAS (Brussels sprouts) and stir fried zucchini. It was her order that was a problem. For some reason, never fully explained. It didn't arrive until 15 minutes after my son and I were served. That's really quite unacceptable. Although the brussels sprouts were well prepared, and tasty enough, the zucchini was absolutely tasteless. Our server was very apologetic over the delay in serving her food and for mis-describing the zucchini as heavily spiced. He tried to make up for this by providing a couple of small dishes of spice and "comping" us a rather wonderful chocolate cake and ice cream dessert. Quite a valiant try to make up for the extremely poor timing on the delivery of the dishes. As noted frequently elsewhere, this is a very loud restaurant making conversation a struggle. That's a bit of a problem for me. BUT, my dish was so good I do intend to give the restaurant another try. Hopefully on this next visit the dishes will arrive on time for all. read more

I always get the smallest, driest piece of chicken despite ordering dark for the very reason it's supposed to be moist. They never give you the complimentary aji amarillo that you'd get dining in. And it's laughable there is an up-charge for yuca fries as a side to only get four, it's yuca, a cheap staple food in many parts of the world, not fresh truffles. A friend brought me here for my birthday. Thursday night and it was fairly busy. Though busy, it wasn't super loud, the lighting is beautiful with so many windows. My friends drink, but I don't. So they ordered drinks, and we ordered our dinner. It arrived pretty quick. Not pictured was the truffle Mac n cheese. Fantastic. But that lomo saltado. I wish I could go back right now.
