The worst dining experience I've ever had. While we were still eating, the staff brought us the check without us asking for it and told us we had to leave because they "needed the table for a reservation." This is completely unacceptable and extremely disrespectful to paying customers. It wasn't just disappointing -- it was humiliating. The food might be okay, but the service defines a restaurant, and at Limón Peruano the treatment of guests is absolutely unacceptable. My friends and I came here for dinner on a Tuesday evening. We had made a reservation and were seated upon arrival. Food: I ordered the following items: Fried Plantains - I love plantains, but the description said it would be coming with some sort of sauce. However, the plantains were plain and that was disappointing. Mac & Cheese - This was good, though different than the other items on the menu. Broccolini - This was delicious and bigger than expected. Fried Cauliflower - This was delicious, but the portion was smaller than expected. Service: Service was a bit slow. They also kept opening the door to the restaurant, and cold air kept blowing on us unfortunately. My friends ordered the ceviche, and the server brought the taro chips with it. The taro chips were a surcharge, but we thought they were complimentary since we did not order it. When the check came, we were charged for the chips. I have been four other Limon locations in the Bay Area and this was my first visit to the Oakland location. I would rate it higher because the the food was great, but the drinks were off. My wife's pisco sour was...sour. It did not taste right and we sent it back. Asked if we ordered another, would it taste the same? The waitress stated most likely, which I found odd. My friends and I had a reservation at Limón on a Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. and the restaurant was pretty empty at the time that we arrived. We were seated promptly and asked by our host whether we'd like sparking or still water. The food here is meant to be shared family style. For our group of 6, we ordered the following: a pitcher of sangria, trio ganador mixto maricos with taro chips, lomo saltado, arroz con mariscos, poli-papas, whole chicken (which came with a bowl of rice), two orders of the yuca fries, and one order of the chifa vegetables. The pitcher of sangria came with way too much ice and as a result, tasted very watered down and one-note. It didn't help that the individual glasses that arrived with the pitcher were filled to the brim with ice cubes as well. I probably wouldn't order this again. The trio of ceviche that we started out with had a nice variety: some were more sour than others, and some also packed more heat than the others. The yuca chips the ceviche is served with makes it a bit difficult to enjoy the juice of the ceviche because the chips have no texture, so the juice just slides off onto your plate. The beef in the lomo saltado dish was very tender. The steak fries in the dish weren't super crispy. The arroz con mariscos -- Peruvian paella essentially, was very flavorful and packed with a variety of seafood. The rice was cooked to a good al-dente texture. The poli-papas reminded me of carne asada fries. The meat chunks had a good crunch to them, but the whole dish ate a bit dry. I wish this dish was drenched with salsa or had a dipping container of sauce to accommodate it. The whole chicken comes butchered so it's easy to share amongst a large party. The chicken is good, but is not as good as the roast chicken at Zuni Cafe in San Francisco. Overall, pretty good meal and just the right amount of food for our party. Parking in the area is a bit difficult to find, so plan accordingly. read more

Everybody was hyping this place up at work in Surgery at the hospital so I had to give it a go. I have a thing about going to places in oakland rn getting mugged or my Tesla smashed so I decided to DoorDash this to me. So let's get this out-of-the-way the food is just way too expensive for what you get. The way they describe this place at work was it's kind of a fusion of Mexican and Asian food because of the location of Peru and it's culture. Let's start with the Lomo saltado. this dish was with rice meat mixed with what look like french fries. The beef was like cooked steak. All of this mixed together with a type of soy sauce is what it tasted like it was the most expensive thing on the menu wasn't really impressed I would've valued this $15-$20. I would not have paid $31 for this ever in my life again next I ordered for lunch the next day the arroz con pollo. All you got with this was chicken with rice and a very small piece of chicken for $22 again not worth the price you paid the chicken was flavorful but you got like a small piece of chicken. See my picture. Maybe they give you more servings in person but for to go both were lack luster, in serving size. Last I got the Tres leches for dessert. This actually was not bad tasting but for $12 I think it's also not worth it. I probably would've paid seven dollars max for this. So in conclusion, the food isn't bad. The food portions looked solid from what I saw around us, and everything coming from the kitchen looked well-presented. Parking can be a bit tricky like most spots in Oakland, and I can imagine weekends being much busier, so arriving earlier or ridesharing might be easier depending on the day. Always have a fantastic time dining at Limón! On my most recent visit our server, Jackie, was so friendly and welcoming and took incredible care of us. But I just keep coming back for their fantastic happy hour, and in all truth, for the pisco sours (Peruvian brandy cocktail). By far, one of my favorite locations in the East Bay. The ambience is amazing as well very clean and well kept restaurant. Also had the Jalea which was more deep fried goodness. We went a little over board on the deep fried food. The Lomo Saltado was great as well with very tender steak. Finished with the awesome chocolate cake. The only hiccup was that the table beside us, which arrived 15mins after us, got their food way before we did. Oh my! Limon is a delightful surprise! The ambiance is fabulous. The night we went, it was loud but the bustle and people made this a lively place to dine. They have a great bar that you can sit at with several TVs if you want to cheer the Warriors. The menu has great selections for the meat eater and the vegetarian. I had the half chicken and chose my sides of fries and green beans. I wasn't adventurous enough to try the Yuca fries but I may try it next time. The chicken was seasoned well and tender. I will definitely order this dish again. This was a great portion and can easily be shared with another person if your more of a light eater. I had the classic margarita which was made well. I would have liked it a tad bit stronger but that's just a personal preference. We were too stuffed for dessert but I will make sure to leave room for next time. A hidden true gem in the Oakland area! Every time I visit the bay I make sure to stop by Limon- they have delicious drinks, appetizers and entrees and it always hits the spot. I usually order empanadas to start off with something quick- the chicken and the beef are my favorite. For shareable entrees you can't go wrong with their juicy pollo a la brasa (rotisserie chicken) which comes with two side options- I always pick the fries and the garlic green beans. I love dipping everything in their yellow mustard sauce and I'm not even a big mustard person! The lomo saltado is pretty up there for me too and recently I tried the anticuchos de pollo which are chicken skewers and these were generous- they also came with various sauces, like aji verde and the yellow mustard sauce. I recently tried the cauliflower and this definitely wowed me. The portions are amazing and everything can be ordered family style for everyone to enjoy, and the price point is great. Ambiance is great and there's plenty of indoor seating. Easily one of my favorite restaurants in the bay. Come check this place out! read more
