My daughter ordered mozzarella sticks and they gave use spaghetti with meat sauce and said they do not use marinara that was weird but ok.food came quick place kinda smells musty also the waitress got into a pretty loud argument with the chef it could have been offensive to some people. Holy cheesy omelet! Broccoli cheddar anything is fantastic, add some egg and you get the same result! I'm pretty sure there was more veggie and cheese than actual egg but I didn't mind at all! I wasn't impressed by the homefries unfortunately, they were pretty dry and were in dire needs of some seasoning but that's okay because my omelet was filling enough. I got the sense that this place is a well-loved Gettysburg staple. It has a sizeable breakfast menu with all the classics and a few specials thrown in. We ate at this old style diner on a Sunday afternoon. Needless to say the place was packed! The front section was the classical diner seating and the overflow went into a back room which was a little more crowded. The service was quick, food was decent, and you got a big meal for the price of the food. The omelets were nothing spectacular but they were filling. Home fries were decent but could have used some onion and pepper. Chocolate chip pancakes were filling. I was seriously considering giving the Lincoln Diner 1 star, but despite all the negatives, the food was fine and the service was pleasant, and that's what really matters, right? First off, I HATE the 'seat yourself" plan at a place like this. The back dining room is rather large with way too many tables stuffed in, so you end up hovering next to people who are trying to eat so you can try to watch for the next table to open up, and when you do sit down the table is dirty and you have no idea if or when a worker will realize that it needs to be serviced. ugh. We visited here for dinner on a whim while in Gettysburg- I love a good diner. This had the feel of an old small-town diner- the locals at the bar, friendly waitresses, nice menu. My mother had the tomato salad (a whole tomato stuffed with chicken salad, cheese and hard boiled egg). The portion was huge and she said it was great. I opted for breakfast (sometimes risky at dinnertime- you can end up with hamburger or onion-flavored pancakes or eggs). I got an omelette with bacon, cheese and mushrooms- it was delicious. The home fries looked great, but were a little disappointing, as was the sourdough bread. The desserts looked top-notch, though we ultimately passed on them- it was a tough choice, though! All in all, it was a nice little diner next to the train tracks (sadly, we didn't see a train go by!) and the price was right. We'd stop again. read more

Stopped by for a quick breakfast before heading out of town last week. Parking is very problematic, even at 8 am on a Sunday morning! We were in a big pickup truck and the lot is very small. Wound up parking on the street, no need to feed the meter on Sunday. I had doubts that we would even find a seat but it's much bigger on the inside than it appears. We seated ourselves in a corner booth just outside the kitchen door. The kitchen seems very clean and organized! Our server was a very soft spoken lady who was friendly and efficient. DH ordered the French toast.......huge order! easily enough for two, if you are of a mind to share. He said it was delicious, and nicely cooked. I ordered bacon and home fries......with toast, and everything was just fine. Some may want to ask for the home fries to be well done if you need a little more "crunch" but these were clearly fresh potatoes made as real home fries should be. Bill was under 14.00, and included tomato juice, coffee, and a chocolate milk. May not be fancy but if we are wanting a good home style breakfast in the "burg", we will happily return to the Lincoln Diner! read more

It's open, and it's cheap, but the rest was sad. Based on yelp reviews, we stopped here around 10 on a Saturday night after a show across the street at the Majestic. It wasn't hard to get a table, but otherwise, server attention was scant. We only wanted a snack. I had read reviews of the great "house cake", and asked about it right away. Our server didn't know what it was. We then perused the long list of cakes and pies, and she let us know they were out of most of them. I ended up with apple pie a la mode, and my wife got some ice cream and french fries. The food came out fairly quickly, and the fries were good. We never saw our server again. Maybe she was a spectre--- it is a historical town. But after sitting in the littered back dining room, with our empty plates, for a good while and failing to spot her anywhere, I (with some effort) flagged another server down. She DID NOT RECOGNIZE OUR SERVER'S NAME (spooky sound here). Someone else brought us our check, and we finally got to leave. And we will never haunt the place again. read more

We saw the diner while driving thru old town, had to stop just because we were in Gettysburg, and it said Lincoln Diner across the street from the Gettysburg train station. Loved that it sat next to the train tracks, looked like a 'Diner' from the outside and when you walked in it had that diner feel. The location was nice, the food just o.k. If you have kids, it can feel slow. The eggplant Parmesan was deep fried, not baked, making it greasy. This is the kind of restaurant you go to when its really late at night and you have nothing else to do. The Lincoln Diner is a staple for most high school and college students, but I think that's due to the fact that they're always open and they're cheap, rather than that its a great restaurant. I'll admit, I've gone countless times out of boredom and nostalgia and have had a great time, but if I'm looking for a place that is guaranteed to have good service and food, this isn't on the top of the list. The food itself is not bad. They have a great breakfast that is big and reasonably priced. The diner is also really good for late night stops for onion rings and fries. It has pretty standard diner foods that you can't go wrong with. For a late night stop, definitely try the cheese fries! Where the Lincoln Diner goes wrong is service. I would say that 90 percent of the time, the service is so bad that you want to get up and leave. The wait is always ridiculous just to even get your drink and the wait for the food is not better. Once you get your food, usually it is either wrong or it doesn't have the entire order. That wouldn't be so bad, but trying to tell the server that you need something is impossible; they walk away and you never see them again until they happen to remember that you need a check. The restaurant is fairly clean (just a little wear and tear from being so old, but that's normal). The bathroom is really creepy though. My friends and I call it the "murder bathroom." It's down in the basement where no sound reaches it and the lights flicker on and off. Yeah, I've seen that horror movie... Overall, the Lincoln Diner isn't terrible. It's a good place to go for breakfast and especially a great place for a late night snack with friends. Don't expect much for service and a bathroom and you'll be fine. read more

Would recommend for no other reason than the girl behind the cash register chased me up the street at a full run, on a 90 degree day, to give me back my cell phone, which I had left behind at my table. I am a senior in Gettysburg College and I sometimes go to Lincoln Diner for brunch. It seemed that waitresses are new and temporary and don't know how to serve. Once I ordered fried chicken, and I sat there drinking iced water for 40 minutes. I saw my waitress sitting at another table eating muffin so I asked her where is my chicken and she said that she forgot about it. Finally it took over an hour for me to get the chicken. Coming from an area where diners are practically a culinary way of life, I've got high standards from what I expect out of a diner. I thought this place did a good job. I came in around midnight during the weekend. The server was very hospitable and welcoming. He was engaging and made me feel at home. The place was clean. I ordered the bacon cheese burger deluxe. This burger was very good. My one qualm would be that I was asked what temp I'd want it cooked at and I gave a vague answer somewhere around medium/medium well...I don't really expect burgers to be cooked to temp at diners, so I just played along. The server informed me that the burger meat was very fresh and he recommended ordering it medium, which I agreed to. Although the burger was great, however, it did come out well done. The patty was so thin, I'd imagine it would be difficult to accurately temp a burger like that. Maybe that's something the kitchen could work out - like I said, though, the burger was great and I wouldn't have thought twice about it if they hadn't said something. I wanted to like this place. Ordered a burger and fries. Burger was nothing special...bun was not very fresh. Overall it was bland. Decided to order a piece of banana cream pie for dessert. My dad & I are big fans of nostalgic diners & we were excited to find one in Gettysburg. The Lincoln Diner has been around since 1955 & has that classic old school diner vibe. The first thing you see is a refrigeration device full of mountainous homemade pipes & desserts! You are also hit with a very toasty front dining room...I lost a few pounds sweating. At least the back dining room was cooler. The menu is massive & they serve breakfast all day. You basically get a large portion of food for a modest price. We ordered 3 different sandwiches & totally satisfied with them. We were actually too full to get a dessert. I read some scary reviews about the restroom & stayed the hell away from that area.
