Great place!! As a gastroenterologist this place has the true flavors of Mexico/Oaxaca

Visiting my siblings in LA, the thing that impressed me most about the city is the plethora of different foods you can try. I'm not talking trendy, gramable spots. What really impressed me was the mom and pops from all over the world. Lindo Oaxaca falls into that category and was easily one of the best places I ate in LA. Parking was easy since they have a lot in the back for customers. When we got there, we were treated to chips with mole, which was way more delicious than chips and salsa. I liked the mole so much I decided to order the mole negro with chicken thigh ($13). It was amazing. Perfectly moist, just spicy enough, and served with a side of fresh, homemade tortillas. Service was friendly and accommodating. And we were pleasantly surprised to find that they now accept credit card! So no excuse to not try it cause you don't have cash. The kitchen area was a smidge messy, but in an endearing way. I felt like I was in someone's house and they were cooking for me. And I already told you this ain't a trendy, grammable spot. If your looking to try authentic Mexican food this is the place! Try the Tlayuda / clayuda,consisting of a large, thin, crunchy, partially fried or toasted tortilla covered with a spread of refried beans, asiento (pork lard), cabbage, avocado, meat, Oaxaca cheese, and salsa (yes it's spicy) If you love meant you must try the "Rellena" which is a blood sausage. Also known to some as Moronga. If your Veggie, like myself, then the Tlayuda is amazing and some Memelas! The memelas are small handmade tortillas with retried beans and cheese. For your drink try the Horchata. Beware it comes with chopped Pecans And small pieces Cantalope, and it's mixed with strawberries so it's pink. This is Oaxacan horchata so it is different (: If your unfamiliar it's a rice and cinnamon drink. COVID: tables are outside and their bathroom is open! First time having Oaxacan cuisine and wasn't sure what to expect. My husband and I def didn't look like we belonged and actually appeared lost - but very friendly and welcoming staffs. They made us feel right at home. Husband and wife tag team manning the streamline and delivery of each table. I was eyeing their tlayuda on arrival and it appeared every table ordered one. I knew I had to give it a try so I opted for their chicken version. My husband went with their barbacoa de chivo served with white rice and black beans. The foods didn't take long to prepare. But the staffs struggled with organizing and delivering the correct order to each table. The husband and wife went back and forth with several orders to various table.. only to find out it wasn't brought to the rightful patron. Thankfully my chicken tlayuda was the one and only during the busy hour - it was immediately rejected by the adjacent table and brought to us instead. (They did order a good 10 mins behind us, I would had been upset if we ordered the same item and they received it first). The tlayuda was very difficult to eat and not sure how it was meant to be shared? The tortilla cracker was impossible to cut. I ended up ripping everything by hands. The tortilla cracker was very chalky. The smear of black beans and melted cheese helped ease the dryness. But the flavor was lacking. It needed a mountain worth of salsa and hot sauce. In addition, the chicken (pan fried chicken breast) was also flavorless and tough. Should had gone with the other protein choices. The barbocoa on the other hand was soft and tender - melt in your mouth delish. The rice and beans were your standard but paired well. Overall - haven't had tlayuda in other establishments so I'm not sure if I don't like all or just didn't like Linda's version. But overall really enjoyed the hospitality and would return to try other well known Oaxacan dishes. read more

Lindo Oaxaca is a modest restaurant in the southern portion of DTLA. Conveniently located just south of the 10 Freeway, there is a small parking lot in the rear and parking available on the street. I cannot say that I have been inside the restaurant, because it is small and they are bringing the food to the door during quarantine. It seemed like a modest space. The folks answering the food and delivering food at the door are very friendly and incredibly generous. When we were picking up our order, they gave us some fresh roasted peanuts and fresh roasted pepitas. The food is fantastic. We got three moles con puerco - negro, rojo and coloradito - as well as enfijoladas con chorizo. Our total order was under $60 and generously fed 6 people. Half a dozen fresh and tender tortillas were included as well as some fresh toasted bread. There was some really hot salsa too. Each of the moles had three pretty good sized chunks of super tender pork. All four dishes were served with a generous portion of rice. The moles are beautifully prepared and have a medium spice level. Each is very smooth and rich. It is on par with what I had in Oaxaca. My favorite dish was actually the enfrijoladas, because it is hard to find a good version in Los Angeles - the bean sauce with crunchy red onions and super fresh chorizo was exactly like what I had in Oaxaca. I have never had it prepared so well - saucy and perfectly seasoned - in Los Angeles. I highly recommend checking out this little eatery. By luck, I saw this place while looking for places to eat near the courthouse where I had jury duty. The 4 star rating with 200+ reviews was a good motivator. Going over the Yelp page for favorite reviews, I happened to see bugs! Turns out they serve chapulines, which are either grasshoppers or crickets that are fried and then covered in lime juice and spices. "Why not try something new? I'm here anyways," I said. And so I ordered a chapulines quesadilla and a champurrado, the latter because I haven't had one in a long time. So, how were they? Softer than I would imagine, without much crunch, and spicy too. They're also easier to eat when the quesadilla is covered than when I'm looking at a plate of bugs. Not going to lie, I've had to pause and regain my determination a few times. The champurrado helped. When I put them in my mouth, I couldn't really tell I was eating something different unless I really concentrated, since the lack of crunch meant that the chapulines were hard to tell from the gobs of cheese. 1 star off for the unintuitive way of getting into the restaurant. The doors facing the street are all locked so you have to go to the back to enter. Unfortunately, there are no signs on the back side as to which door you're supposed to go into, and the right door looked from the outside that it would go into the kitchen. I wish they would put up some signs on the front telling people to go into the back, and some other signs in the back saying something like "Enter here." read more

Nice place, very clean and tasty food. Last time that I went to this place it took a little longer than usual to get my food. But I tried to understand that, they have just a few waiters and a lot of people to serve. I just hope it doesn't happen again the next time. They have a little parking lot in the back, but it's so small, last time I parked in the little shopping center across the street and I didn't have any problems with it, I just need to walk a few steps. La comida está súper sabroso! Y se ve que si es auténtico y tratan de usar ingredientes de Oaxaca. Un poquito carrito considerando pero como repito, es más porque si tratan de importar de Oaxaca. El estacionamiento es gratis pero la entrada si está reducido, aunque ya que entras hay más que suficiente espacio para estacionar el carro. Super picky about good mole and I finally found a place that serves it the way I enjoy it. They have two styles of mole, black or red with chicken. After trying both, I prefer the red mole because it has a kick of spice to it, more so than the black mole. The tortillas are handmade so it's fresh! Their coffee is also unique, without any cream but still taste great without any bitter after taste. The music can be a bit too loud and the prices seem to increase by the day, those are my only issues. Otherwise, def my go-to mole for now. read more

First time here. Serving chips and mole to start off was delicious, giving you a feel for their mole flavor (amazing strategy for their Oaxaca tradition). Not your typical chips and salsa. Red mole with chicken, white rice and hand made tortillas . Amazing staff that answered our questions, even gave us a test sip of their Chilacayota drink, which was delish! what a horrible place! My first and last time here. I ordered a pozole: chicken I believe because I could only find few pieces floating around, it was so gross. My husband ordered something else but he was disgusted by seeing the manager or idk who he was shredding the quesillo with his hands and then coming to the tables to pick up dirty dishes and then going back to shred more quesillo!! Then there was the cash only. Also, the variety is very poor and kind of pricy. Idk I wanted to give it a chance despite the way it looked but the food really disappoints. No chips with mole either! First off, don't let your familiarity with "Mexican" food be confused with Oaxacan food, or you'll be setting yourself up for some major disappointment. You'll get chips and salsa here, but instead of the salsa being HOT, you're going to get sweet. Yup, they top the complimentary chips here with a mole sauce that is very sweet and takes a while to get used to. I had to fight my brain telling me "Why are we eating this? It's not 'natural!'". For lunch, I went with the green chile enchiladas plate. I absolutely LOVED the green sauce on the enchiladas: slightly tart balanced with a slight chile spice. I was provided with a white rice, seasoned with chile and fresh made, re-fried beans as my sides. Both were delicious, though I feel the beans could have used some salt (which I helped myself to at the table). The red sauce they serve along with your dish is more reminiscent of a salsa you'd put chips on, and spices up anything on your plate nicely. The plate is also served with garlic bread, which, at first seemed strange to me, but after spreading some beans on that bread, it was pretty darn tasty. Oh, and you also get fresh made corn tortillas (that'll look like flour ones, and have the same consistency of flour ones). My friend ordered the asada tlayuda (carne asada at most Mexican places) and his food came with beans and a side of the more recognized orange colored rice (tomato sauce and chicken flavored). Burritos are served with a side of crinkle cut fries here, which, as a whole meal, will most definitely fill you up. I'd say stopping into this place was a definite adventure. I was my one worst experience ive had. I waited more than 45 min. for my food and it was really disappointing. The children's plate was not enough for a child. The food was not well served and my family and I all ordered different meats for the same plate. When we recieved the plate it was all the same meat. I went yesterday with my mom and we had the Nopal Zapoteco and 2 drinks each, that was it. They charged me $45 dollars for that.
