Ambiance (4/5): The establishment is small with a few tables and was fairly empty on Saturday around 7p but by 8, it was fully seated! Reservation recommended. The decorations was minimalistic/cute and seating was a bit tight. Low to moderate noise level (a little noisier as there was a party of 8 dining this night). Despite having double doors, the draft air made it super cold during our stay. Service (4/5): The service was a bit tough with only one wait staff but we got what we needed when asked. Fried Pork Buns (5/5) - The mini fried buns were almost like soup dumplings as they were filled with some broth on the bite. The exterior was crunchy and was very flavorful. Pra-Rahm (4/5) - peanut sauce, deep fried meat. There a little bit of breading to the meat so it soaked up the sauce but wasn't exactly crunchy or anything. It gave it an interesting texture but the meat itself was tender. While it tasted good, I wouldn't order it again and order something else to try next time. Drunken Noodle (5/5) - I was able to ask them to replace the thin noodles with the broad noodles and they obliged! It was very tasty and had lots of flavor. Everything was sweet!! I felt nauseous after lunch. The noodles I got were super sweet, the dressing on the salad, the Thai tea.. I guess the dumplings were the only thing that wasn't. Ambient lighting. Service was good. I ordered the massaman curry with duck, which comes with a bowl of white rice. The duck skin was perfectly crispy and the meat itself was tender. There was a generous amount of duck as well. The potato was still crispy even though it was served in the curry. The curry itself was creamy and thick and very tasty albeit definitely on the sweeter side, which can get to you after eating the whole dish. BYOB!!! This restaurant is so cute and I loved the plants and lights they had hanging from the ceiling. It's byob with no cork fee which is perfect. I got the pad Thai and asked for it with no red onions, but they accidentally left out the green onions as well. It wasn't a big deal though and the pad Thai still tasted delicious. It came with a good amount of noodles and chicken. The only thing I wished is it came with more sauce or added a bit more flavor to the sauce. Takeout / Delivery review: Got delivery from them via takeout as our first meal in the city. SO loved his drunken noodles with chicken - it was flavorful but not at all greasy. I loved my glass noodles with chicken for the same reason. My noodles kept well in the fridge and warmed up well in the microwave. We got the vegetable spring rolls which came with 3 pieces and were huge. Again flavorful but not greasy. We asked for some sweet and sour on the side. Finally I splurged for the fried banana with coconut icecream since it was a special occasion and it was again yummy, warm and crispy but not greasy. I always order the Drunken Noodles at Thai restaurants because I like broad noodles, basil, and something spicy. HOWEVER, the drunken noodles here are made with thin noodles and not broad as noted on their menu. Not a deal-breaker for me, but just be aware. We dined indoors and loved the ambiance with the wooden furnishing and hanging plants. I also noticed a lot of people coming in for takeout. It is a good place for work lunch. The lunch special is about $14-$20 depending on the selected protein. It also came with selected Tom Yum soup or salad and bite size appetizer such as spring rolls, dumplings or edamame etc. The soup was so so, not in good quality. I ordered pineapple fried rice with beef (around $15 something). It was in big portion and they actually gave quite a lot of meat. I can only finish half of it and took home the rest for dinner. It is very busy during noon time and starts to wind down around 1 pm. Due to the small space, it can be loud when it is pack with customers. The services are good and fast. However, I felt that the flavors were slightly off for my taste, mostly the tendency to be on the sweeter side. The Tom yum soup did not have as much depth as I would have liked. It was reminiscent of water with lots of sugar and white vinegar, but no seafood or lemongrass flavor. In my opinion, the balance of sweet, salty, and sour was off. The fried seafood dumplings were great. The sauce for the spicy basil was also sweeter than I prefer and not enough basil flavor. This one tasted strongly of hoisin sauce or a sweet bean paste and the sweetness was not balanced out by any other flavor. Overall, it was just ok. The fried rice looked good. read more

What a great find! My husband and I love Thai food and so we wanted to check this place out. I don't hand out 5 stars often but this place earned it! I'm so glad we stopped because the food was as amazing as the ambiance. We had Thai coffees to drink, which were a fantastic balance of creamy and delicious. Our waiter was terrific and very patient with us. I had the pad see ew, which I rarely order anywhere other than "our" traditional Thai place. It was so great! Perfect ratio of noodles and chicken and spice! My husband had the green curry which he loved. I thought it was delicious from the few bites I was able to sneak. It's comprised of glass noodles, big pieces of shrimp, squid, tomato, red onion and chili's in a sweet/tangy sauce over lettuce! It's a much lighter dish than a Pad Thai for example. Also, portion sizes here are fair for the prices they charge. I ask for all dishes "extra spicy" and they don't mess around when it comes to spicy (one reason why they're better than all other Thai restaurant). Other awesome dishes I order is the Pad Krapow Gai. It reminds me of a tastier version of PFChengs lettuce wrap (yes I know it's Chinese and not Thai) because the chicken is ground up so small with super crunchy veggies! Another reason why I love them: like SEVEN people will say Hello! Hi! Welcome! How are you! And smile so big when anyone walks through the door. This is excellent service at its finest. Coming at this from the perspective that there's no bad Thai food, Little Basil still isn't particularly memorable - the noodle dishes don't stand out, and the curries are good, not great. Plus, as someone who prefers a smaller menu most of the time, I'm still a little bummed with the lack of certain staples at this place. I ordered the pad Thai with tofu for about $15. The tofu was a little spongy in texture, which wasn't my favorite but I know some people like! This place is close to the NYU nursing/denstistry/bioengineering building where I am a student - one of my favorite places to go to for lunch in the area! $9 lunch special for an appetizer, soup or salad, and entree!! Can't really get better than that! My favorite entree is the panang curry - a bit spicier than other panang currys I've had, but it is good especially if you like spicy! I've also tried the little basil fried rice and drunken noodles, both of which I am also a fan of. It's not the greatest thai food you'll have, but it definitely hits the spot and satisfies thai food cravings. The restaurant is not that large but it is decently sized and can fit a good amount of people. Good for take out or dine in. They do get a little busy during lunch, but I've never had to wait for a seat, even with a group of 6 (luckily). Service is very efficient, which is also why this place is so great for lunch. They are always ready to take my order promptly. Food comes out They are also a BYOB restaurant! No corkage fee for the first bottle. Never have brought my own, but I believe BYO must be after a certain time (might be 4 PM) Pro tip for more spiciness: ask for chili on the side and they'll give you a selection of chili pepper and hot sauces. read more
