Went here earlier this week for a small family birthday celebration. Thai restaurants are always hit or miss with vegetarian options, and Malii sits somewhere in the middle. I've had bad experiences with fish sauce/shrimp paste in "vegetarian" items at Thai restaurants, and I appreciated that they clearly labeled items that are genuinely vegetarian or vegan. I ordered the Chive Rice Cakes and the Massamun curry with tofu and vegetables (the only veggie curry option). The rice cakes are fried triangles of rice with chives and come in a pretty hefty portion. They're a little blah on their own, but good with the sweet soy sauce. Also, these were a toddler hit! I was expecting the Massamun curry to pack a little heat, but it was on the sweet side instead, so that was a disappointment. Also, it felt a little short on tofu. The restaurant itself is smallish with a clean/modern look including adorable bird lighting fixtures that I loved. It's reasonably priced, and they were consistently busy even on a Monday, which gave it a lively energy. Overall, not a bad experience, but I won't be rushing to go back. read more

This is a really solid lunch spot in Gramercy Park, offering classic Thai dishes with a few creative ones as well. I came for lunch and booked a spot through Resy - and they have some nice, inexpemsive lunch specials. The panang curry was solid - good quantity and tasted good, although was a little less spicy that I would have expected. The pad see ew on the other hand was very delicious, and I'd definitely recommend it! I'd say if you do come here, it'd be worth checking out their more special dishes; the panang curry and pad see ew were solid but not too unique to the many other Thai spots in the area. On the other hand, I've heard great things about their other dishes like the Lychee Duck Curry, so consider trying those more special dishes! This place was packed on a Thursday at 2pm. My server offered tap water right away without the upsell to still or sparkling, which I appreciated. The space seats about forty people and has a beautiful, modern decor. It was loud during my lunch and the din of voices clashed with the soft music playing in the background. I ordered the lunch special, which comes with an appetizer and entree. I started with the seaweed and tofu soup, which was tasty. Next up was the sautéed garlic entree with beef, steamed broccoli, and carrots in a garlic pepper sauce. It also came with a side of hot sauce on the side that had a nice pop of spice and a little sweetness. The food came out quickly and was delicious. This is specifically for the Winter Restaurant 2026 Menu. I personally got the seared scallop salad, pad ped (beef brisket), and churros with pandan dipping sauce. Overall, the food was okay, my group and I felt like most dishes were lacking depth of flavor, but it was a good deal for restaurant week ($45 for 3 courses). My highlight was the seared scallop salad, but it only came with 2 pieces of scallops and the rest was onions and dressing. A cute spot, but kind of small. Service was great though! read more

Malii is one of my favourite Thai restaurants in the city. The food is always so authentic and delicious, and the portion size is so good for the value, I always walk away super satisfied and stuffed. The interior is nice -- elegant decor and nice tableware, but just a bit cramped at many of the booths. I usually try to make a reservation before coming, but I almost always see at least a few tables available for walk-ins. We were able to try one of the seasonal specials, the pumpkin curry with chicken. It was so delicious -- I like that the curry itself was flavourful without being so heavy as to cover up the slightly sweet flavour of the pumpkin.  Some other highlights -- the fried pork belly appetizer was delicious (albeit a bit heavy with garlic), and the portion size was huge for an appetizer. The pad see ew and pad thai were both very tasty. The chicken (we opted for chicken for both) was really nicely cooked and very tender, and both dishes had perfectly chewy noodles without being too bland or strongly sauced. The khao soi was a bit less of a standout. The broth had a nice, rich flavour, but the chicken was somewhat harder to chew, and the veggies tended to get soggy really quickly. The noodles (both cooked and crispy) were really yummy and I liked the contrast in textures. The Thai tea sizzling roti was a really interesting dessert to try -- it's an eclectic mix of strips of roti, thai tea ice cream, marshmallows, corn flakes (?!), and whipped cream. The portion size is huge and each piece added a really interesting flavour and texture aspect to the overall plate. The contrasts in temperatures (hot roti, cold ice cream) and mouthfeels was really remarkable, and somehow it wasn't too sweet at all. Portion sizes were really large across the board, and the price point was super good for how delicious everything was. I am definitely keen to come back to try even more of their yummy dishes. read more

This place is busy! And rightfully so- the food was good. I loved the seasonal pumpkin curry. I would skip the egg roll and go with the chicken skewers. I did find some of the food a little on the bland side, perhaps that's a personal preference as I enjoy Thai food with heat and explosion of flavors. We tried to order the mocktails but they were out. Instead we ended up getting lychee martini, it was tasty if you are looking for a martini with just a hint of sweet. The location is smaller, as most of boutique places in New York are, I recommend trying to get a reservation in advance. The ambiance is casual-upscale. It was a friend and I sitting next to a couple of a date. Better for smaller groups as it gives a more intimate setting. The location was bright and well ups-kept. We met for lunch at Malii Gramercy. It's a small, stylish restaurant, with limited seating. We were able to order from a set Restaurant Week menu. I ordered a An Chan drink -- butterfly pea infused rum, tequila, lychee juice, lime juice, Thai spicy rim. It was a pretty lilac color, though strong, and with an indistinguishable flavor. I also ordered the Cho Muang, which was butterfly pea flower dumplings filled with caramelized shallots, sweet turnips, and peanuts served with crispy garlic, and lettuce. This was a lovely light blue color and was delicious. My main dish was Tay Po, choice of fried branzino or fried tofu (I picked tofu) served with sweet and sour tamarind red curry sauce and water spinach. This was very spicy, almost a little too spicy for me. Service was friendly, for our large party. The food tasted great, looked beautiful (a little spicy), and this was a nice and relaxing meal for our group. read more

I went to Malii Gramercy over the weekend for a lunch special. The Pad Thai with chicken was amazing. I also had myself a small appetizer. I enjoyed myself some spring rolls. The service was exceptional, I wasn't rushed, and was asked if I was doing okay a couple of times while dining at the restaurant. I accompanied my meal with a lychee ginger beer. The lychee ginger beer was phenomenal. The ambiance here is great for a date night, catching up with your girlfriends/bros and bringing your parents to come out and enjoy delicious Thai cuisine. Crab fried rice: Delicious! They gave a lot of crab on top of the fried rice and the spicy sauce that came with it gave a nice kick. Really enjoyed the smoky wok flavor to the dish. Massaman chicken curry: The curry was rich, creamy, and delicious. Very flavorful with the right amount of sweet and savory. The chicken was tender and fell off the bone. My one minor feedback would be that the potatoes were a bit undercooked. Basil stir fry with crispy duck: Stir fried string beans with crispy duck as our choice of protein on top. They fry the entire duck instead of just crisping up the skin, which I felt dried it a little but the duck was still good and juicy. The string beans itself is were okay, but I liked the basil sauce it came with. Probably my least favorite out of the 3 dishes. Overall I'd give this place a 4.5/5. The flavors were spot on and the portion sizes were good. It was also cheaper than other high-end Thai places I've been to. read more

Visited here for my husbands birthday after hearing fab things on social media, and was not disappointed! We got there a little before 5 so got to try some of the happy hour specials including the tom yum wings and spring rolls for $9! We also ordered curry puffs, and two of their mocktails, the kiss of lychee and golden embers. Everything we tried was really good, the mocktails were a standout! The chicken wings were sweet, sour, sticky and delicious, I'd def get these again! The curry puffs tasted homemade - so good and flaky! The actual food we ordered was great, but standard Thai! We got the basil chicken, basil fried rice w shrimp, and massaman curry - all really very good!! The kha soi was good, spicy, and warming but the huge piece of chicken on top was weird to me - It felt so out of place. The desserts were ok to me - my husband wanted the mango mousse cake, which he liked, I didn't. And I opted for the sizzling Thai tea roti which sounded innovative, and was good but I think was missing a little pizzazz. Took my picky mom & aunt to get Thai food at Malii while they were visiting me in NYC over the weekend. I had never come here before but my brother's gf gave a good recommendation and Resy had a table of 5 available last minute on a Sunday night. The servers were friendly and this place had a clean and charming vibe. For food, we tried the tom yum wings, pad see ew w/ beef, tom yum soup w/ shrimp, crispy pork belly basil, basil fried rice w/ shrimp, and lemongrass sea bass. I thought everything we ordered was really tasty and portioned well. The shrimps were cooked perfectly and I loved that they were able to make the tom yum soup extra spicy for our party. My one qualm would be that the wings could've been crispier and less doughy. For dessert we had the pandan coconut sundae and mango sticky rice, which were also really good even though the mango might not have been fully ripe yet. Would've loved to see lod chong on top of the sundae but I know that's hard to find around the city. Anyways, the lychee lemonade and lychee Thai tea drinks were also refreshing! Solid Thai food. They provide a unique spin on some of the classics such as the Pad Thai Boran which comes with jumbo prawns and wrapped in a fried egg nest. Was a huge fan of their papaya salad, probably the best I've had in the city thus far. Love the addition of dried shrimp and pork rinds in it, giving it extra texture and flavor. Have ordered takeout from this place a few times and finally went in person. Food (4/5) - Ordered the khao soi and vegetarian duck pad ki mao to share between us. Both delivered - the chicken in the khao soi fell off the bone and wasn't too dry, the noodles were just the right texture as well. Onions were still crispy. The flat noodles in the pad ki mao also held their shape / length / texture and the mock duck pieces were substantial. Ambiance (4/5) - Warmly lit and cozy, could get a little crammed but they were really booked out for a Friday night. They made do! Service (4/5) - Prompt, not too pushy, only subtly rushed us a little at the end but there was a line. Price (5/5) - Good for the location and area. Malii is excellent. This isn't your usual Thai restaurant -- the menu is much more adventurous, there are so many unique dishes to try. Almost all of them are phenomenal -- from the papaya salad to some of the great beef dishes, they come with lots of flavor and just the right amount of spice. The cocktails are good too, with Thai flavors and a rotation of interesting seasonal drinks to keep things interesting. I've been a handful of times and only on the most recent visit did I hit my first snag -- the crispy lime chicken appetizer wasn't up to the usual standards. But I won't let one bad dish on one visit bring down how impressed I've been at every other meal here. And while it certainly isn't cheap, I do think prices are fair for the high quality meal you can have here! read more

Came here for the lunch special and happy hour around 1:30pm with my partner. It wasn't too busy and not hard to get a seat. If you want simple foods, the lunch special is great as it starts at like $15 for an appetizer and decent sized main. Their happy hour is pretty great as it lasts from 11:30am-5pm M-F and all cocktails are $11. We ordered spring rolls, penang curry, and Pad Kee Mao. Pad Kee Mao is how I usually judge a thai place and Malii did not disappoint. My partner thought that the penang curry was the perfect portion as the rice matched up with the curry. The only thing I didn't like about the food was the spring rolls because the sauce is drizzled on top of it which makes it soggy while it's sitting on it. With lunch I ordered the Pandan Old Fashioned and that was a good strong drink. My partner left to go back to work and I had 2 more drinks (Ma Kham Piak and An Chan) while studying for a little bit. They have an amazing and very affordable lunch menu which consists of an appetizer and an entrée ranging from $13.95 to $22.95 depending on the protein you choose to get. I got the spring rolls to start off with and my main was the chicken basil fried rice. Oh my, that food was REALLY *expletive* GOOD. It came out super quickly too! I did also get the lychee Thai tea. It was a lot more than I expected (ended up taking it in a to go cup) and yummy. This spot has quickly become one of our favorites for Thai food! The dishes are flavorful, portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. The drunken noodles are the standout for me! Great vegetable selection and a delicious flavor. We've brought several friends here, and everyone always leaves happy. The only dish that hasn't been a hit were the eggrolls. We've ordered delivery/takeout from Malii multiple times and it's always been super solid, so last weekend we decided to try dining in! It's more of a neighborhood spot but they've done a lot to make the space trendy and welcoming, with lots of greenery and bamboo-style seating. We were seated immediately, but there were still a good number of fellow diners, and the atmosphere was lively. The staff were also all super friendly. The pad see ew here - which I ordered with shrimp this time - is really top-notch. The sauce uses a healthy amount of oyster sauce and it caramelizes nicely on the flat noodles, shrimp, and egg. The Chinese broccoli is crispy and fresh. We tried the pork and shrimp dumplings (steamed) as an appetizer. The dumplings themselves were nice and tender, but the sweet, tangy sauce really made the dish. Still, I might try another appetizer next time. I have also had their Thai iced tea in the past, and it's just about perfect. It's kinda hard to screw up Thai iced tea, but this version in particular has the perfect amount of sweetness and a robust tea flavor to match all of that sugar. read more

The Lychee Duck Curry and Pad Kee Mao are both spicy, but also have a bit of sweetness to it. The duck is sooo tender and the skin is perfectly crispy. It comes with a bowl of rice on the side. The Thai Tea Roti is a super interesting and unique dessert, never had anything like it before at a Thai restaurant. The thai tea is poured onto a sizzling hot plate and bubbles over melting marshmallows. A pretty sweet treat honestly but the roti balances it out a bit.
