What a cute diner! Don't drive by- stop in! The food was surprisingly good. I had my hesitation at first but I'm very satisfied! I had the Reuben sandwich and my roommate had a supreme omelette came with side of potato and pancakes. We both very much enjoyed our food especially since it took less than 10mins to get our food! Talk about hot and ready! Loved this place. Will recommend and will return. My only suggestion is that they update the bathrooms. It's one thing to have a vintage feeling of an establishment for the experience but in some areas modern touches go a long way. :) new hardware on the sink handles or new counter or mirror or a touch of fresh paint. It's a little falling apart. Will not stop us from coming back tho! read more

I've been meaning to write a review for this spot for years! The LCR has been here for at least as long as I've lived in the area and I'm really glad it's still here (i.e. that it's survived the pandemic as well as the openings (and closings ) of some other fancier spots). Their breakfast food is great - huge omelettes, fluffy French toast...okay grits, etc. and their portions make the already decent prices seem even better. Especially with the assortment of sides that you get with most choices. I have had some misses with their non-breakfast items, but I'm still willing to try more of them. The staff is friendly enough and at least one seems to recognize me, which is nice since I do t go there THAT often. They're also fairly quick with food preparation as well. The interior is meh - nothing fancy but nothing too off putting either. Maybe a few ripped seats here and there. I've rarely had to use the facilities there but seem to remember they could've used a little more elbow grease but the dining room itself is clean. It would be nice if their online presence worked better/at all. I always have to hunt for a menu using a different source other than the one on their website because it never works. If you're looking for tasty food (especially breakfast), and nice and quick service that won't hurt your wallet then this is definitely the spot for you. read more

Worst service! Very disrespectful lady server!.. i went inside for brunch and sat down on the table one lady server gave me a cofee then left. I ask for the other lady for an equal sugar. EQUAL!.. she gave me a different sugar sweetener without a word or explanation and turn her back. I called her and told her miss i ask for EQUAL sigar sweetener and you have me a different one. She answered me like oh thats the only one we have. So i said miss you be nicer to me as a customer and tell me that we don't have equal but we have a replacement and i could have understand. We come here nearly once a week, sometimes twice. Good serving sizes for the price, waitresses are nice and attentive, food never takes too long. Only ever had a couple misfires but with how often we go there that's expected. Food is as good as you could want for what it is. Absolutely no complaints, except I guess the milkshakes are kinda mediocre and I didn't really like the monte cristo but I've had nearly the whole menu so if that's all I got that's sayin something. Ambiance is really nice, very quiet even when it's busy. Lots of comfortable booth seats. I wish they were open longer so I could come here on work days. Favorite restaurant in the city. read more

Wow, by far the worst breakfast in Chicago so far. Came here with my bro and a friend. Got the biscuits and gravy. Disgusting. Everything on everyones plate was disgusting.. Classic Chicago diner. When I walked in and I saw the counter it took my breath away. The tables and booth surrounding the counter we're just as great.. this place is stuck in the 70s and it should stay right where it is. The food and service were fantastic and as we were walking out to pay they had a cash register back from the 60s and or 70s. This place is awesome! From all the characters that frequent to the old school feel, I just loved it. Food was good too! We had a humongous amount of food. I had to question whether my 3 egg omelet really only had three eggs. Yup, it's all the fresh veggie that make it huge. And the bread slices! Huge! So upset by how this greasy spoon turned out. The wait staff seemed more interested in counting their tips than by checking in with patrons. When I asked what the waitress suggested I get, she responded with "its depends" so no excitement there... I said -well I'm here for lunch, she said "it depend on what you like..." I normally asked this to get the best or most popular item but I should have came with a will of my own... We got someone else's order dropped off at our table and then when she realized it was wrong she tried to explain that it was ours but she misunderstood-then quickly grabbed food to return to rightful patron VERY awkward interface. I will try again for breakfast and breakfast only, the club sandwich has NO TASTE at all. Fries were delicious thank goodness. My partners chicken sandwich was inedible as they seemed to scramble to make it...(I think they realized they neglected to put our order in) The wait staff was so lack luster and really downright depressing, I felt like they reflect the cleanliness of the actual restaurant. A neighborhood diner with good standard high cholesterol American breakfast, reasonably fresh hot coffee and acceptable fresh pie. Service is a little slow and disorganized, the inside temperature is too warm, but that's because I'm still about 10 or 20 years too young to fit into their target demographic. But Standees has better food and is only one Red Line train stop further north. Augie's in Andersonville was my favorite brunch spot in the area until they closed. The price is right but everything on the menu is pretty drab. Have to agree with Jan that the hours are strange too. It's never open when I walk by hungry. read more

Cheap prices, fast service and close proximity makes this my favorite breakfast diner. The menu is your standard diner menu and nothing extravagant or out of the ordinary. Sometimes simplicity is best and that is definitely the case here. If you are having breakfast with a big group, they can definitely accommodate your crew as there is ample seating towards the back of the restaurant. The awning on the outside of this restaurant says that they serve dinner, but I have never seen it open past 4pm. read more

I always love simple breakfast places where you can go and just read a paper and relax without being rushed out. Hard to find in Chicago on the weekends with all of the fancy 'brunch' locations that want to shuffle you in and out. This, along with Heartland Cafe, are my two favorite breakfast places in Chicago. I frequent here more though because it's more low-key and quiet. Food was cooked perfect. 1 egg, potatoes (real potatoes, not shredded, not entirely diced; can tell they're freshly cut), with two nice thick pieces of rye toast. Plus a generous size mug of free refill coffee! Good was $4.25 ($4.75 if I wanted 2 eggs instead of my usual 1 egg), and $1.75 for bottomless coffee. Great good, peaceful atmosphere, out the door under $8 with tip, can't beat that. read more

I normally don't leave any negative feedback but .. this place does have Good food but customer service is not great, the back room is not to health code, at all. Between a clearly moldy vent blowing hot air onto us, which doubley adds to the concern. I absolutely love this place. Classic greasy-spoon diner, complete with a horseshoe-shaped formica counter. The service is friendly, the portions hefty, the prices extremely reasonable, and I always leave with a smile on my face. My wife and I usually come here for breakfast -- we can't get enough of their scrambles or their pancakes -- but their grilled cheese sandwich with fries makes for a very satisfying lunch. First off it is a cute little cafe. The issues are that they bathroom needs remodeling. The staff is not really friendly unless you know them, or at least that is the way it seems. Love me some diner food. Especially breakfast. Used to come here years ago (before they accepted credits cards). Food was always OK. Hadn't been in a while, so I popped in. There was only one waitress, so service was not as "rapid" as other Yelpers have written. I ordered the chorizo omelet. Diners frequently use the flatop to make an omelet. Needless to say, you cant get a omelet "fluffy" on a flatop. But there is a trick ......don't cook the life out the eggs. Suffice it to say, my omelet was like eating a dried out cracker. The "well-done" rye toast I ordered was like warm bread, not toast. All egg dishes come with a choice of hash browns or what they call "diced potatoes". Hash browns are the frozen kind, but server told me "diced" were fresh. They are fresh indeed. French fried cubes of potato. (I thought they maybe were like home fries). My bad, Meh. Stopped in for breakfast last Sunday, place was very busy but we got seated and served very quickly. Loved the coziness and relaxed atmosphere. If I lived in Edgewater I would make this a regular place to eat. Everything tasted great! Coffee hit the spot and I ordered a breakfast sandwich - sausage egg and cheese, with hash browns which were more like scalloped potatoes, soft underneath but very crispy on top- very tasty! Je detest waiting. I do not wait for breakfast. I am far too hungry and under caffienated to deal with waiting in line for eggs in the morning. Esp when the weather is nice (like today) for the first time in eons, and I want to frollick in the park... The trick to no waiting on a weekend morning? Hit the small neighborhood diners like Little Corner restaurant. Preferably away from Lakeview/LP...as even those places down there get strained. Stroll in, be greeted warmly by a nice person (not a stressed out 20 year old hostess that is trying to corral 40,000 people into a small waiting area), sit, drink coffee and begin your meal in peace. No, there are not creative names like "green eggs and ham" or brie in the omelettes....but you also get them in about 12 minutes as opposed to 2.5 hours. There is no fruishi or kiwi drizzle or chai pancakes...just the regular old breakfast stuff, and I LOVE it. Bring me diner coffee and a Denver omelette any day of the week and I will be a happy camper. :) Service was friendly and swift, food was tasty and hot, coffee refills were aplenty....decor is old school, with a smattering of plants. But, not too many plants...then its sort of gross. LCR hits just the right plant ratio...old school register is a superb finishing touch, as are the very obvious (and sweet) regulars at the counter. So, if you don't like waiting, hit it up....or head to one of the trendy places, up to you...I just don't "do" waiting for breakfast! Not going to lie... since they keep firing their best waitresses (ahem... Anna & Krysta especially!), the atmosphere has really gone downhill. Food is still good, prices are still great, but there's no real connection with the staff anymore. Oh to everyone who complains about that one specific SUPER unpleasant brunette waitress? Lauren. She is the manager, & even when I was going as a regular (by which I mean 2 or 3 times a week) she would still rush us out on "busy" days. She's also the reason they're hiring dime-a-dozen waitresses instead of keeping the fantastic ones everyone loves. I really liked this place at one point. Food and service was good, coffee was great. This place is more like a neighborhood diner. It's close to where I live, so it was good when I just didn't feel like cooking. Prices are reasonable too. However, this visit left me hungry... because I paid my bill without eating and left. The server was either new or incompetent. It wasn't super busy, so I don't know why it seemed she was in the weeds. It took 10 minutes to take my order after I had to go get my own menu. Took 5 more minutes to get coffee and water. I ordered a simple 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast. Got my coffee... busser hands me a menu. Food came out quickly. In order to get hot sauce, I had to start flailing my arms. Look at me! Im a bird! I then noticed that my toast wasn't buttered. It was ice cold by the time I got to ask for butter, so I asked for it to be toasted again. Food is now cold. Same toast came back slightly warmer and guess what?! No butter! Coffee no where to be found. Welp! I'm done by now! Got up, paid $9.30 for my cup of coffee, strip of bacon, and fork full of hash browns with raw green pepper and onions on top (they used to make these with the hash browns, I guess not anymore). Told my server everything was just awful. She said "okay". There was no point leaving a tip. Guy behind me "apologized" on my behalf. Yeeeeeah... please don't. I know others are not thrilled but I go out of my way to go here. I LOVE it. I have gone often and never a bad experience. I also found my perfect plate. The French Toast Special. French Toast - perfect width, well cooked in the middle. Check. Eggs (over-medium) - Always perfectly over medium Ham - the only place in the city I will eat ham. It's thick and flavorful. (and you can get a side of grits too) The waitresses are generally always very attentive, good on getting coffee around even to the most addicted coffee guzzlers among us. Ambiance is...well, there is none, but I never pay attention to it there. I'm going early, hungry, and wanting consistent french toast. It's a place to go eat and chat with friends. The only quirky thing about it is it's tendency to close for a few weeks unannounced to go on vacation. I would stop going a few months after walking up to a dark restaurant because I kept assuming they might still be closed. Still, there is a place in the world for unpretentious little diners, and you will find me there. read more

I was torn on how many stars to give this little place. I would say it's about a 3 and 1/2 but I decided to round up because for what category it's in, little greasy diner, it's pretty good! LCR is a no frills place that does the basics. And they do them pretty well compare to others in their same category. I, like others, wish they had longer hours, because sometimes at 10pm at night, I crave pancakes and eggs. And I would love to be able to walk on over and eat up! We went on a weekend late morning and it was crowded, but not so much that we had to wait for a table. The servers were nice, but no nonsense kind of gals. They took your order quickly and then were on their way to the next table. But that works for me because they busted their behinds and got us our food so quickly I barely had time sip my water twice! The cooks in the back are also responsible for this. Way to go! I love quick service, that's one of the main reasons to go to LCR! The food was good, I got pancakes, eggs and hashbrowns. All yummy, though the hash browns were most notable because they seemed like real potatoes, none of that fake thinly shredded stuff. Next time, I'm going back for an omelet, they sounded yummy. And the prices, man they were cheap! And it was a decent amount of food for the price too. All in all, I think we found a new place to visit when we are craving some greasy and simply made breakfast foods. Gotta support the local businesses too! read more
